BLOCK HOUSE Jungfernstieg in Hamburg

Never have I had a bad steak in Germany until I visited this place. Waited for 15 mins to get a drink, the waiter didn’t seem interested and was blunt. We had eaten in another restaurant close by the day before and it wasn’t a steakhouse but I had a steak and it was one of the best I’ve ever had, the whole meal was delicious. I was expecting great things from Block as it specialises in steaks but what a let down, it was the worst steak I’ve ever had. I ordered a larger steak than the one I had the previous night yet it was half the size and it was the same cut. It was tough and chewy and really bad, I complained to the manager who wasn’t really interested and said it was probably a bad piece of meat and unfortunately these things happen, he did offer a free drink but I think we were given the poor steaks because we are from the UK and brits in general don’t complain. I would never go back again. I think being a chain restaurant, it’s a case of ship them in and ship them out as fast as you can with not much consideration for the customer. My advice would be save your money and go else where to an independent restaurant!

The food was great and the service was good too. Everything went pretty quickly Unfortunately the ambience isn't that great Lots of going through Loud and it seems hectic. Nevertheless, you can recommend the food.

If you want quality food and service, this is the right place. As a family, we all loved it.

On December 10th around 8:00 p.m. I had a very disappointing experience with a dark-haired employee in a dark suit at the entrance to your branch on the Alster. When I entered the branch, she immediately asked me where I wanted to go. I explained to her that I wanted to eat, but her answer was unexpected: she said in a sharp tone that there was no toilet and asked me to leave the branch. I was irritated and initially thought I might have misunderstood her. So I asked her three times what exactly she meant, but each time she just repeated the same sentence about the toilet without responding to my explanation that I had come to eat. When I finally told her that I wanted to complain about her behavior, she called her colleagues directly on the phone and simply walked away instead of clarifying the situation. To clear up the misunderstanding, I then contacted your branch by phone, but the call was simply hung up. This behavior made me very sad as I have been a loyal customer for years and have always appreciated your friendliness and service. Nevertheless, I would like to emphasize that I always really appreciate your food and the efforts of most of the employees. I hope that such experiences remain isolated cases, because your branch has always been a place where I felt comfortable.

Yesterday we spontaneously went for something to eat in the log cabin. Despite the full house, we still managed to get a table. We didn't have to wait long for our food. The food was incredibly delicious and the waitress Jenny Joy completely rounded off the evening. Thanks for the nice service. We had fun. :)

Such a great customer service and friendly staff! We have no reservation but we could get the table within only 20’ waiting. We ordered a couple of steaks which were juicy and tender . The starter was very fresh! Good location, directly in city center.

We were with you with 5 people. Despite the large crowds, things went very quickly. The food was very tasty and the service was very pleasant, friendly and quick, big praise to the entire team.

We are guests in Hamburg as tourists and were at the Block House Essen. It was very busy but all the employees were still super friendly, always smiling and always happy to have fun. You could see that they enjoyed their work. The food was a blast, the meat was absolutely perfect, the potatoes had a great taste and the salad was fresh and crunchy. It was incredibly crowded, so it was very hectic and loud. But everything was well organized: from waiting at registration to paying. As always, the food was great, the waitresses were friendly and attentive!

We were there yesterday on February 3rd, 2024, it was probably the last time we were in a block house. The prices are no longer in proportion to the food and especially the portions. There is nothing to criticize about the quality. But you should be full. An onion soup now costs €8.10, it used to come with garlic bread, but that's all over. A burger €17.10, not a portion to fill you up either. Hungry guests are wrong here!

Steakhouse with mediocre food and noisy ambience.

We spontaneously went to eat there with 2 adults and a child (2). We received a very friendly welcome and only had to wait a short time. The conditions were always very friendly. We have never been to such a child-friendly restaurant for our vaccination! Sometimes as a family you just feel tolerated and not welcome. You felt very welcome as a family in the log cabin. The food was very tasty and the price was also very fair.

Terrific! I have an intolerance and for the first time I experienced that the waiter was familiar with the ingredients and was able to advise me. The food tasted great, the steak was cooked to perfection. Even though it was busy, we were served quickly on a Saturday evening. Clear recommendation!

Unannounced with 5 people on Saturday, waited 20 minutes with beer in a very pleasant “hallway”. We weren't turned away like we were in many other restaurants before. Food perfect, steak on point and enough to fill you up. Our waitress Jenny was just great, friendly and attentive. Gladly again when we come to Hamburg again.

I had bitten on a stone in the salad and pointed it out to the service, unfortunately with no consequence other than an apology. With an espresso on the house the matter would have been forgotten. Unfortunately, service is no longer the usual Block House quality. Too bad, please fix it.

We stopped here because somehow we couldn't find the right place anywhere. In the end we were a bit disappointed. The food was okay, but nothing special. The atmosphere is rather uncomfortable. Loud and hectic. Even at a small table we had problems communicating. Toilet not particularly clean either. And that already in the early afternoon.

Too bad! The two of us spontaneously went to Jungfernstieg yesterday afternoon to eat a delicious steak with a great view of the Binnenalster. A special menu enticed us with goose leg, red cabbage and potato gratin, which we both ordered. After the drinks, the food was brought out reasonably quickly. But unfortunately the poultry/sauce and the red cabbage only arrived moderately warm on lukewarm dishes on separate plates! Instead of the gratin, we preferred the baked potato, which was nice and hot(!) next to the leg. After trying it briefly, we complained about the food to our very friendly and attentive server, who of course took all the plates away and came back after a few minutes with our now reheated meat (which was too dry on the inside) and hot, fresh side dishes (which had cabbage tasted good), but everything was put back on plates that were too cool. Nevertheless, we were now satisfied, especially since we were offered a free dessert. Summary: It's probably better not to eat poultry in a steakhouse; they serve baked potatoes, herb bread, pan-fried dishes and salad. And the restaurant managers should already know where the food cools down so quickly on the way from the stove to the guest and this is not at least counteracted with hot dishes. Then see you next visit!

My visit to the Block House on Jungfernstieg was unfortunately disappointing. First the positive: The location directly on the Jungfernstieg is of course unbeatable. It's nice to sit and watch the hustle and bustle on the street. Service was friendly and attentive, no complaints. But then came the food. I ordered a steak and unfortunately it didn't impress me. It was fried to perfection, but somehow the taste was missing. It just tasted bland, almost boring. And as if that wasn't enough, there were also little insects running around on our table! That's not possible, especially in a restaurant in this price range. Hygiene should be a top priority. All in all it was a pretty mediocre visit. It's a shame, because the location and service have potential for more. Obviously My Name is not as in the answer...? I recently dined at Block House, and it was fantastic! The steak was perfectly cooked – juicy and flavorful – and the ice cream was rich and creamy, a great way to end the meal. You are brought to your table very quickly and can eat in a more relaxed manner. Even on a Saturday when there is a lot going on! The food is more than good for Block House quality. Unfortunately the service staff were inattentive - probably because of the high number of customers.

The staff is extremely friendly, attentive and accommodating. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed it. We would definitely like to come back!

The food we ordered was delicious and we didn't have to wait long for our food. As always, the service was friendly and quick. I would recommend making a reservation if you want to eat there with a larger group (4+).

Today was a day trip to HH, because today (Friday October 11th, 2024) I visited this restaurant for the 1st time (I usually go to Block House in Bergedorf from time to time), I am very impressed with how this staff responds to the wishes and the seats/ Tables were clean. I won't say no to coming back.😃

At least the cheeseburgers could have been warmer. Otherwise the entire experience was more than okay.

We ate very well as a family. The meat was very good and the prices for the children's menus were very reasonable. Only the noise level in the restaurant was significantly too high and that's why it was a bit uncomfortable.

Always good quality, great service, although this shop is always busy and has an excellent view of the Alster if you're lucky and get a seat at the window

Had a Mr. Rump steak with fries and fried vegetables. Steak was well fried, the fries were crispy and the salad that preceded it was fresh and crunchy. Service was very friendly and the restaurant was bright and cozy. You definitely can't go wrong if you're in the mood for a steak.

A hamburger in Hamburg? How could we resist? The Wife enjoyed the coleslaw that served as a side for her hearty burger. She could not finish the generous serving of French fries. I ate prawns and a goulash soup. Tanya was friends was help and directed to a place that has Franzbrötchen, a must try pastry from Hamburg that is reported to taste like a cinnamon roll.

Visit with friends to the log cabin on Jungfernstieg. What can I say, we ordered a burger for the kids and what we got was a disappointment. Something like that shouldn't be called a bug, because it wasn't. A piece of garlic baguette with a patti lying next to it and fries…. Similar with the adult dishes. We were neither offered the children's card nor were the children given anything to paint as usual. Only when we asked did the lady bring it to us. On the whole, we prefer to go somewhere else... Unfortunately, service has deteriorated significantly

Hi. I waited long time for menue and it was not brought. The place was half empty and waiter plus daily manager had just fun next to kitchen. Finally left without serivce. It was really strange from manager not to see, if the tables are server and just to have fun... laugh, budy hug etc....

As is typical in the Blockhouse. What's special is the view of the Binnenalster (if you get a window seat).

I went with 3 people and got a table quite quickly. The Vietnamese staff are cute, the food is served quickly and is delicious, quite suitable for my taste. This restaurant is very crowded but the staff is very friendly and enthusiastic. Super delicious strawberry ice cream

We spontaneously dined here last Saturday. Very nice service that immediately brought something for our child to color. The food was very tasty and came in a reasonable time.

Classic steak house, always good. Salad top, bread top and the meat too. Unfortunately it wasn't fried medium but rather medium rare. Still very tasty

The steak was excellent. The service was very nice, humorous and courteous without being intrusive. Only once was a small thing forgotten, which was immediately made up for with an apology. Card payments were temporarily not possible, but we were already informed about this on a notice at the entrance. I thought it was really good that people were made aware of this before entering the restaurant.

We really enjoyed the blockhouse steaks, it was good service and nice views of the Inner Alster.

We have been to Block House over 40 times, including several times at Jungfernstieg, but what we experienced on Tuesday, November 2nd, was an absolute service disaster. Waiting for a seat was still within the usual timeframe (~5 minutes), then we waited at the seat for 4:00 minutes until someone even wanted to take the order. Ordered: apple spritzer, wine from the special menu, salad as a main course and Hereford rib eye (with starter salad). 28:42 minutes after sitting down, the apple spritzer arrived and a “Sorry, the wine from the special menu is not available, please choose a new drink”. The waitress left us the card and disappeared. In minute 39:04 a white wine was ordered. In minute 45:44 the following landed on the table at the same time: salad as the main course and Hereford ribeye and the accompanying starter salad. The Hereford ribeye had probably been on the menu for a while because it was only lukewarm. When the wine came two minutes later - the first waitress didn't even dare to come to our table anymore - we canceled our visit and left. Blockhouse, really very poor performance, increasing prices significantly during the course of the Covid pandemic and then offering such abysmally poor service. Sad. And no: there were enough service staff on site, that shouldn't have been the problem.

Price is okay and so is the food. But just okay, carelessly prepared, food lukewarm, taste okay. Service very good. You can do it, but for €5 more you can have a much better meal.

It's always nice to eat at Block House. We like the steak and fries as well as the salad excellently. Unfortunately, prices have risen here too. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it again.

It's a shame, the service has changed. There were four of us eating and, as usual, the steak main course was preceded by a salad. The main course was served even though the table was full of the side dishes and drinks and (at least) I hadn't finished the salad yet. I was very annoyed by this and expressed this because as a guest I find it extremely rude to have to worry about space on the table while I'm still eating because the waiter doesn't have it in mind. The situation was resolved, but no regrets or anything similar were expressed. I did tip, but solely for the quality of the food. The price-performance ratio was not right for me in this blockhouse this evening.

Blockhaus has high quality everywhere in its restaurants... it was as tasty as always! Stay as you are! The service is also friendly and accommodating!

In my opinion, in the 90s the "Block House" was the "Steak House" with good service and good food, no matter which branch you were in. Today, unfortunately, things are different! The service is still good, but the meat is becoming more and more of a disappointment, and the desired cooking point doesn't seem to matter... I was a regular guest at the Hamburg branches, but in the future I'll prefer to eat a steak somewhere else!

Block House, around since decades and known for their steaks. Yeah, ok steaks (little seasoning) but nothing to rage about. Steaks come with their garlic bread and a massive baked potato but any other side dishes are to be ordered extra. Friendly service , good place for a decent lunch.

We spontaneously went to eat here. After a short beer wait at reception, we were shown to the table. Nice service and good food. The “burger” takes some getting used to. The others were very happy. Also absolutely reasonable prices.

Nach kurzer Nachfrage,wir waren 6 Personen,konnten wir zusammen Platz nehmen, obwohl das Restaurant sehr gut besucht war. Die individuellen Wünsche der Steaks bezüglich medium durch usw.wurden in jeder Hinsicht erfüllt.Schnelle und sehr kompetente Bedienung. Fazit:Wir waren rund um zufriedenund kommen bestimmt wieder!
