Very good food for a mountain inn

The perfect place to enjoy a dream day with the best view of the Berchtesgaden mountains! The prices are great, despite the higher costs of purchasing food due to the mountain location. The chef does his job great👌 as do the friendly staff and the innkeepers!!!

At first I had a good impression of the Hirschkaser: the location and view are simply amazing, the restaurant is cozy and the staff seemed competent. I personally spoke to one boss (of 2 bosses) about a seasonal job, which he immediately agreed to. I, on the other hand, needed a short time to think about it and agreed to speak to him by phone in the next few days. At our first meeting he gave me the choice of whether I wanted to work there illegally or registered, which made me a little suspicious. When he replied to my telephone promise that I should please contact him again a week before starting work so that he wouldn't forget me, I finally had a strange feeling about the whole thing. Since I didn't have a written confirmation and a few questions about the job remained unanswered, I wrote him an email a few weeks later. He responded with the words "I'm no longer up at Hirschkaser and no longer in Germany. I wish you personally all the best." At first I lost my breath for a moment and it was very obvious that something was going very wrong... He then forwarded me to the other boss, to whom I sent an email, which went unanswered. So after a few days I called the restaurant, where I was brushed off in a rather unfriendly manner due to the large number of visitors and they promised to call me again in the evening. According to their own statements, they had already read my email at the time, but probably saw no need to respond to me. Of course, I didn't receive a call in the evening and I contacted them again the next day, where they shut me down with similar words as the day before and told me that I could write another email. With the last shred of goodwill I did, but again I got no answer. I imagined a seasonal job up there would be really nice, but if the bosses/staff are incompetent, unreliable, unfriendly and don't play with open cards, it just can't be fun, it's a shame. I'll definitely hike to the restaurant one or two more times to see the breathtaking view, but I won't support the Hirschkaser with another cent...

Waited over an hour for the food, even though only half of the tables were occupied, then everything came out at different times, sometimes not properly warm. Staff unfriendly, one waitress even downright rude. The food was good, but totally overpriced. A portion of chips was 7 euros. The toilets were dirty. But the tourists will keep coming. As a local, I will take my snack up with me in the future.

We took a break from tobogganing here. Even though it was really full, we easily got a table and were served quickly. The staff is super structured and friendly. The prices are rather high, but appropriate for the location. The food tasted good.

Unfortunately it was self-service and there was no food at our time because there was too much going on. Still super nice surroundings and views and nice staff.

We reserved 2 days in advance via Google and also received a confirmation by email. When we arrived 15 minutes before the reservation, we were initially left standing in the entrance unnoticed for 10 minutes. Only after we actively spoke to the waitress ourselves were we simply seated at a table where people were already sitting to "wait" for another 10 minutes. Since groups were constantly passing us and sitting down, we decided to actively approach the staff again 15 minutes later and were then led to a table in the main room where a family was leaving. Here again is a table that was already used by another group at the same time. They hadn't even wiped the table top, which still had pieces of salt and other crumbs on it. Again we spent another 15 minutes unnoticed while people who came after us were able to place their orders before us, so we placed our order ourselves at the entrance. The food came relatively quickly, but the starter soup was served to us together with the main course, which inevitably meant that one of the two dishes had to be eaten more or less cold. There was no dessert because more than half of the food was already gone at lunchtime and we didn't want to wait any longer. When we wanted to pay, we also waited in vain until we finally decided to pay at the exit. A "plus" for the view, which we didn't have despite having a reservation, and the fact that you could pay by card. The food itself was delicious, but you're definitely paying for the location/view and the fact that there's no other competition locally. We were very happy because of the positive reviews, but unfortunately we will not be coming back due to the chaotic conditions, the poor service and the unpleasant background noise. What a shame!

A few days ago we went tobogganing with the kids and were looking forward to a cozy stop - that was far from it. Only self-service (although the hut is clearly not designed for this), totally overwhelmed staff and absolutely exorbitant prices. It took 1 hour 30 from queuing to serving the food. For 3 main courses and 2 drinks leave over €70. Unfortunately that was the last time! Too bad!

The prices there are amazing, a Kaiserschmarren for 18€ is more than outrageous and that has nothing to do with expensive food!! The service is total Overwhelmed and not at all pleasant to sit and then leave €100 as a family until everyone has something to eat and drink - no thanks!

First of all: great food! You can't criticize the kitchen! But the prices are now almost outrageous and the waitresses are sometimes quite snippy (and overwhelmed here and there). Knowledge of German…for free! But: if, for example, you order a drink, get something else and mention it, the answer shouldn't be: "We haven't had that for half a year!" If I then counter that it's on the menu today, then it's " But it still tasted good, didn’t it?” absolutely unacceptable as an answer. I wasn't aware of spontaneous changes to opening times either... "The kitchen is now closed for half an hour, you can order again from 3 p.m.!" Well, but if you just want to stop in quickly, that's not okay either. The prices are too high for that... Above all, there is nothing about it on the menu. Also not: kitchen closes at 4:30 p.m. with the last descent. If you could write it down, no one would complain! But as an annoyed comment from the waitress…difficult. You can't rest too much on the monopoly situation (otherwise there won't be an inn there, so you HAVE to go there), otherwise the guests will stay away at some point...

You can't beat it when it comes to unfriendliness!! Food great! View priceless!

Sorry, the hospitality and service were catastrophic. The waiter was unfriendly, as we have never experienced it before. 1 hour waiting time for a wheat beer, Kaiserschmarrn was not possible at all. Overall impression completely overwhelmed and unstructured.

Absolutely recommended! We bought a combination ticket, uphill and downhill ride including food and a drink. The view is absolutely breathtaking and the food is very good and plentiful. The staff is quick and very nice. Everything was very, very clean and high quality. Because the waiter had forgotten our order, the boss gave us a delicious drink. Nevertheless, everything went off quite quickly and friendly. However, the signs for the hiking trails up here are not clear, so you should inquire in advance.

Best view of the Watzmann. Unfortunately it is now very overpriced. Of course a lot has been invested in a Kaiserschmarren but offering it for just under €20 speaks volumes...

Beautiful all-round view of the Berchtesgaden Alps

schönes Wetter, die Hütte war voll, wir konnten nur Getränke bestellen, Essen hätten wir erst 20 Minuten später bestellen können. Als wir das monierten war der angebliche Wirt sauer und ließ uns einfach sitzen ohne Getränke und später meinte er, wir sollen gehen. Den Gästen am nächsten Tisch ging es genauso, konnten auch kein Essen bestellen. Der "Wirt" war heillos überfordert. Die Preise total überzogen.

I don't understand this 4.5 star rating. Waiters are blind, waiting time to order is about 30 minutes. Then wait 20 minutes until the drinks arrive and you don't even have to start eating. There are more beautiful destinations than the Hirschkaser

The view is enchanting, but the following problem became noticeable on a Sunday afternoon. Service poor due to inadequate specialist staff, service staff incompetent, not stress-resistant and unfriendly. Waiting times beyond good and bad even the snow melted on the glacier faster than the beer was on the table. I couldn't even think about eating.

Unfortunately I can't rate the food, so we sat at the table for three quarters of an hour and waited in vain for the waitress to find some time for us. I can understand it when there are only two people serving and it's quite full, but that wasn't the case today. After we were completely ignored, we just left again, because someone else earned my money today and rightly so. 👎

Food price/performance fits. The view from up there is fantastic

On the "Toter Mann" mountain you also have a fantastic view of the mountains (including the Watzmann) from the Hirschkaser mountain restaurant. We ate cheese dumpling soup and salad with two cheese dumplings on the terrace. Both dishes were delivered very friendly and quickly. Everything tasted great. To top it all off, there was 1x Kaiserschmarrn (freshly made), which was served hot. We rarely ate the Schmarrn (without raisins) as well as we did up there. There was plenty in the bowl and we enjoyed the Kaiserschmarrn for two. A compliment to the kitchen for the diverse enjoyment at lofty heights.

An incredible panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.

After a waiting period of 20 minutes, drinks were consumed for the first time, followed by food after another 20 minutes. After all the surrounding guests received their food after another 25 minutes, the waiter noticed that we still hadn't received any food. The waiters also came by very rarely. After we were told that our food would now be passed on to the kitchen, it was too much. No apology, just understanding that we will now leave. Oh, the starter that the waiter wanted to charge for didn't come either. We wanted to eat here, not worth recommending, very poor service, no customer orientation. Because of the question below Kaiserschmarren was out.

Nice barracks with a great view, but I think the pricing is a disgrace... far too expensive!!! As a local, I know a lot of alpine pastures, huts and barracks, most of them in even more exposed locations, but they don't dare to pay €18 for Kaiserschmarrn or €7 for a few fries! Too bad!!!

Great view in front of the restaurant with the opportunity for a photo shoot. Food is very tasty. Three years ago there was also a Kaiserschmarrn with raisins. I was looking forward to it and was a little disappointed that it's no longer the case. The liver dumpling soup was also very tasty.

Newly renovated mountain inn. Beautifully made inside and outside there is a terrace with 3 sides that just leaves you amazed by the panorama. The seating on the right side was a bit uncomfortable and didn't match the interior. Toilets were in the basement, everything was sparkling clean. The staff today were 3 gentlemen, all very accommodating, friendly, funny and competent despite the lack of staff and stress. Unfortunately there was no Kaiserschmarrn today. We had yeast dumplings, apple strudel and a schnitzel. The fries were legendary. Everything was very delicious. The price was pretty steep...13 euros for a yeast dumpling...but good, here you eat for the view. The cable car is not really fun in summer, you sit in the bright sun for over 20 minutes, there is no weather cover over the seat and so it was very tiring. If you didn't have a cap on your head, you probably had a headache in the evening. The employees at the lift were very friendly and helpful. We had 2 dogs with us and traveled in 2 armchairs. Parking is also subject to a fee

Great view 360 degrees, just mountains!!! But we took the chairlift up to the big barbecue evening on Fridays until 10 p.m. to enjoy dinner. Then at 7 p.m. we wanted to order grilled cevapcici and got a short, succinct answer: "They're all already!" We asked because the barbecue evening lasted until 10 p.m.!!! The “innkeeper” said succinctly and very unfriendly that we could come back again and goodbye. We sat at the table speechless because of such insolence and arrogance. That's not how you treat guests. He didn't even apologize or offer an alternative. Live music should start at 7 p.m., even 20 minutes later and 1 song - break - 1 song - break...... We would give the innkeeper a straight 6 and not give a positive recommendation for hospitality.

Vornweg: Berggaststätte Hirschkaser absolut keine Empfehlung!!! Haben uns auf den für jeden Freitag beworbenen Grillabend mit Livemusik bis 22 Uhr beim Hirschkaser entschieden. Extra dafür war der Sessellift bis 20 Uhr in Betrieb. (2 Erw. Hin/Rück 42 Euro) Waren 17.30 Uhr dann beim Hirschkaser. Ab 18 Uhr war Bestellung für Grillgut möglich. 19 Uhr haben wir dann Grillgut bestellen wollen,,,,,aber Grillgut war bereits alle, obwohl nur 32 Gäste anwesend waren. Den Wirt darauf angesprochen, gab es nur die unhöfliche Antwort, "vielleicht beim nächsten mal. Genießt dafür die schöne Aussicht" Übrigens die für 19 Uhr angekündigte Livemusik begann um 19:18 Uhr mit einem Titel, danach erst mal wieder 10 Minuten Pause. Sind nach dem zweiten Titel 19:35 zurück zur Seilbahn. Liebe Leute, "Jeden Freitag Grillabend beim Hirschkaser", vergesst dieses angepriesene Event!

Fantastic view and very fast and friendly staff. However, I found almost 20€ for Kaiserschmarrn and 10€ for an ice cream chocolate to be a bit expensive. Still highly recommended

Is a special kind of mountain inn. There are many ways to reach it and the view is the reward. The food is good and there are good portions. The staff is friendly and does their best. I like coming here. Addendum 6/30/24 I was here again and I almost took off my hiking boots. 18€ for a Kaiserschmarn (eggs, flour, sugar and milk) is more than excessive.

NEW MANAGEMENT SINCE MAY 18: Forget all the old negative reviews. --Price performance almost unbeatable-- and absolutely top quality!!! with very friendly staff... and somehow self-service is a must in a "mountain hut". And of course the situation is indescribable. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------ This was absolutely true until June 17, 2024: Just... oh dear, what's going on now??? I have known the "hut" for 30 years, with all its weaknesses and changing owners. Today I was really shocked. Apart from the mandatory service at the table since the last change of ownership >which doesn't invite you to linger, but rather "forces" you to eat<, you're now looking fancy. Strictly speaking, the prices are almost extortionate, even considering the adverse delivery conditions. (Currywurst 14€) There are no more snacks, actually no meals for athletes/hikers. We took the train up and down and got rid of over €50 with two drinks (small apple juice, alk fr. Helles). Are these family-friendly prices? After all, it is called a “family ski area”. I seriously doubt the existence of the Hirschkaser and the Hirscheckbahn under these circumstances.

Very nice mountain inn, with a great view of the Watzmann massif. Delicious freshly cooked food. However, when the weather is nice, there are waiting times to be expected and, like almost everywhere else, the prices are reasonable. We had a Viennese style schnitzel with fries for 20 euros.

For us, the hike to the Dead Man is part of every holiday in Berchtesgadener Land. The view is magnificent and a visit to the Hirschkaser is part of it. After the renovation it became even more beautiful. The food is tasty, the selection of drinks is good, the service is attentive and friendly.

The climb from the Hochschwarzeck car park is quite steep. It took us about 50 minutes to climb the 360 ​​meters in altitude. From the dead man and from the mountain restaurant you have a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. The price level is well above Gerstreit.

I was up on the mountain with friends for the first time on May 11, 2024 after renovation work and it was GREAT. The view from above of the Watzmann, the Hintersee and all around, simply amazing and an experience that you won't soon forget. And if you feel like it, you can take the chairlift up and walk down or do it the other way around. It will definitely be very beautiful!

Everything is just great. The route over the Dead Man (mountain peak) was definitely worth it. The food (Kaiserschmarrn) was very tasty and a proper portion. The service is very attentive and you are well served.

Selten so eine schlechte Gastro Erfahrung gemacht! Von Alm Zauber nichts zu spüren. Der gute Kaiserschmarn - Fehlanzeige, dafür gab es einen in Vanillesoße schwimmenden Apfelstrudel. Service im Außenbereich leider sehr schlecht, wenn man das überhaupt Service nennen kann. Am besten nimmt man sich eine Brotzeit mit auf den Berg um dann die wirklich tolle Aussicht zu genießen 🥹

Nice view, disappointing menu with hardly any regional dishes. Unfriendly service on the terrace on Sunday 3/17/24…. When I asked about a drinking bowl for our dogs, the answer was: he didn't have time for that now and I could get water myself with a bowl on the toilet... cheeky! When we asked how long our order would take, the answer was: Let's see how long you've been waiting and when we ordered... It's a shame, this was once a popular mountain restaurant with heart and quality of food!

After a 1.5 hour hike - unfortunately the lift was not yet in operation on March 9, 2024 - with a beautiful view in quite steep terrain, we reached the hut: Great views of the mountains and very cozy indoor areas and terrace with a ski hut feeling. Unfortunately the menu was smaller than what is currently available on the website. Unfortunately, Kaiserschmarren and Käsespätzle were missing. We were served quickly, although the service seemed a bit abrupt at times... The currywurst with fries is a 5/5. The fries are homemade, crispy and soft on the inside. The fine bratwurst was made from spicy meat and the curry sauce was not run of the mill but tasted fine with a slight spiciness. Only the mayo came in a 20ml convenience packet - that was a bit small. But overall, absolutely pleasantly surprised! Germknödel was a 3/5. It was quite tasty but the flavor lacked intensity. The yeast dumpling itself is quite tasteless, which is why the vanilla sauce could have tasted stronger. Value for money was reasonable. €15 for currywurst and €12 for yeast dumplings are fine. If the elevator runs, we would come back. The ascent and descent was quite difficult.

Went to the Hirschkaser today in great weather, fantastic views, service was very good with the terrace full and, above all, flexible (drinks could be changed at short notice). However, it must be clearly stated that the price-performance ratio is not good and most of the dishes listed on the homepage were not even on the menu. Unfortunately, the taste of the salad with cheese dumplings and the white sausages (you can't really go wrong here) wasn't convincing. A cake at the next table could not be ordered because it had not yet thawed. It's a shame - frozen cake for this price is unfortunately a no-go. Conclusion: - Magnificent view - Great ambience after renovation - Service friendly - Food prices too expensive - Food and prices listed on the half board do not correspond to the actual menu

Wir waren in unserem letzten Urlaub nach einem wunderschönen Aufstieg beim Hirschkaser. Das Lokal war bis auf den letzten Platz besetzt. Wir konnten dank des schönen Wetters draußen sitzen. Allerdings mussten wir sehr, sehr lange auf unsere Getränke und unser Essen warten. Die wenigen Bedienungen waren sehr überfordert. Trotzdem immer nett und freundlich. Allerdings waren die Portionen sehr klein und nicht wirklich günstig. Auch die Getränke haben ihren Preis. Okay, man bezahlt halt die einmalige Lage und Aussicht mit.

There is no such place in all of Germany, where the sun and sunset are as amazing as here. The hospitality and service are extraordinary, and the goulash and beer are the best. I recommend that everybody visit this magical place!

The ambience is really great, but unfortunately the restaurant is extremely overwhelmed on a nice day. The service was not only stressful, but really rude and unfriendly. Immediately the comment “Food and drinks won’t be available for an hour at the earliest!” And the waiter was gone! When we asked to order again we were ignored 🙈 After 30 minutes we were able to order, then we had the same issue when paying... Never again Hirschkaser!!!

There was a lot going on, but Dragan behaved fantastically, was always very friendly, also very humorous and had everything completely under control. Respect for this friendly waiter! Sehr schöne Hütte mit tollem Blick, leider total überzogene Preise. Pommes 7€, Kaiserscharn 18€, Obatzer 11€ , ….. Der Service ist unterirdisch. Unfreundlich und es dauert alles sehr lange. Wir hatten Heiße Schokolade mit Kuchen. Der Kuchen kam über eine halbe Stunde nach der Schokolade als wir schon gehen wollten. Es war echt man eine schöne Wirtschaft, aber leider ist das nur noch Abzocke.

1 Stern für das leckere Essen 1 Stern für das tolle Ambiente -1 Stern für die unfreundliche Servickraft -1 Stern für die maßlose Unterbesetzung des Service -1 Stern für die extreme Wartezeiten ab Bestellung (Getränke ~35 Minuten, Essen ~ 55 Minuten) hierbei ist noch nicht einmal die Zeit mit eingerechnet bis überhaupt der Service kommt (falls er überhaupt kommt). Das zweite Getränk bestellt man automatisch nicht, weil man Angst haben muss, dass es vor der Bezahlung sowieso nie ankommen wird. Nachbartische sind nach 30 Minuten, ohne das jemand ihre Bestellung aufgenommen hat, gegangen! Mich wundern tatsächlich die 4,6 Sterne, wenn beim Service so dermaßen der Wurm drinnen ist. Service um 4-6 Personen erhöhen, der Umsatz steigt und die Leute sind zufriedener.

Sehr schöne Lage und herrlicher Ausblick. Trotz der vielen Gäste super Service und leckeres 😋 Essen. Wir kommen wieder.

Die Einkehrmöglichkeit vereint rustikales Design mit modernen Elementen. Der geräumige Innenraum ist zur Winterzeit bzw. Vorweihnachtszeit wunderschön dekoriert. Die Aussicht auf die Berge ist atemberaubend. Dieser Ort lädt zum Verweilen ein. Das Essen war gut. Besonders lobenswert war die Bedienung; sehr aufgeschlossen, freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir kommen gern wieder.

Essen sehr lecker und Bedienung auch freundlich nur leider sehr lange Wartezeiten. Ansonsten alles top :)

Spitzen Gastronomie mit herrlichem Ausblick

Bereits am Eingang teilte uns der Kellner mit, dass wir unseren Hund gerne mit rein nehmen können. Wasser stand auch schon gleich parat - sehr freundlich! Der Kaiserschmarrn und das Hirschgulasch waren der Hammer. Allein die Spätzlesoße war unserer Tochter etwas zu scharf. Alles in allem super - sehr zu empfehlen!

Wunderschön gefällt uns Essen war super lecker 😋 Bedienung war auch in Ordnung. Es war sehr voll wie überall zu wenig Personal. Wir kommen trotzdem immer wieder gerne vorbei
