Bayerischer Hof in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

On our return journey from the south, we stopped in Rotenburg an der Lahn to have dinner at the Bayerischer Hof on Sunday evening. We sat in the extremely cozy, lovingly and chicly decorated interior. Something you miss in many restaurants these days: a lot of heart and soul goes into it, be it the food or the ambiance. We received a level of attention you don't get elsewhere. The extremely delicious chanterelle cream soup was amazing, and I've rarely had such a delicious cordon bleue in years! Seasonally, they also offer a super-delicious cordon bleue with chanterelles. The homemade mayonnaise was very tasty! The owners were pet-friendly; our dachshund even got a bowl of water! Excellent value for money! We'd happily return!

The dinner is uniquely delicious. Wonderful people who are very, very friendly and welcoming. Friendliness is evident in everything. The hotel is good, the rooms are very good (simple and very good). It's easy to get to the highway and is close to the center (a 4-minute walk), and parking is free. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the Bayerischer Hof team for my stays, several of which I've now had (!). Yoel, Falck, and the staff...see you very soon!

This review refers exclusively to the restaurant. The food was good, but unfortunately, the amount was charged twice to my card, thus deducting it from my account twice! This can certainly happen once in a while, but you'd expect a refund after filing a complaint. Instead, they chased after your money for weeks without success, hence only one star for this "service."

We were in Rothenburg for two days and were looking for a restaurant for dinner. Positive reviews on Google led us to the Bayerischer Hof. We were not disappointed in any way. Our expectations were even exceeded. The service was excellent. The owners, the von Richthoven couple, were very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent. The beer garden was so cozy that we immediately reserved a table for our second evening. If you don't feel comfortable at the Bayerischer Hof, it's your own fault. Many thanks again to the von Richthofen family!

Perfect location, about a 5-minute walk to the old town... The hotel is showing its age (creaky floorboards, squeaky doors) but the rooms are clean... The hotel's front view is fine, but the courtyard is rather unsightly (piles of trash, broken asphalt from the parking lot). The hotel and restaurant don't belong together. Breakfast is an optional extra, but at a hefty €15, it unfortunately doesn't represent the value for money. The restaurant in the evening is decent... The friendliness of the entire staff is top-notch... Summary: Rothenburg ob der Tauber is highly recommended; the Bayrischer Hof is fine for a short trip...

Ate there. The food was excellent and good value for money. The kitchen and staff were very slow, even though it wasn't busy.

This was our third time staying at this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, and the contactless check-in and check-out went smoothly. Unfortunately, breakfast didn't work out. We had booked breakfast through Booking.com, but apparently, this wasn't passed on to the hotel. Since there was no contact person, we had to leave without breakfast.

Oh dear. My second stay and nothing like the first. The room was far from superior, but it had a large, bright bathroom (last time we only had a tiny bathroom without a window). Neither upon arrival nor upon departure was there a friendly word, let alone a question about whether the stay was okay. A classic case of mass one-time tourism. It doesn't have to be beautiful, just functional and profitable; Japanese tourists won't be coming back anytime soon. Very sad. Otherwise, very central, with a bakery, DM, Lidl, Aldi, and Ecenter around the corner. The breakfast buffet was far too expensive for us at €15, especially since it was only open from 8-10 a.m. and was offered cheaper at other hotels (even though we weren't guests there!). Free parking around the hotel is easy to find, so you can save €8 a day.

The room is perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. It was clean. Contactless check-in and check-out thanks to the key safe. I highly recommend the food at the Bayrischer Hof restaurant. It was very tasty and plentiful. It's good value for money. It's best to reserve in advance. Thank you, it was lovely.

If you’ve never had Augustiner 🍺 before, it’s worth it to come here just to taste the best helles beer in the world. Literally zero cap. The food was pretty solid as well, we had a big salat and a Wiener schnitzel (pork, not veal 👍). The location isn’t the best for a beer garden, but you won’t care because you’ll be saying “oh mein Gott“ about the delicious bier.

We just stopped for a drink and it was wonderful! our server was great and made the whole experience that much better.

The rooms are basic but appropriate for the price paid. Since there's never a person at reception, they sent instructions for retrieving the keys in a mailbox upon arrival, but they didn't provide information on how to access the private parking lot, even though we'd already been charged €10 for parking. Fortunately, we found a spot in the cemetery parking lot right across the street, which is free, but I couldn't get a refund for the €10 I paid for the parking, which they never provided, and which I requested a refund for. I'll definitely look for another place with better service next time.

We also stayed here overnight while passing through. The room was decorated in a wonderful Bavarian style. However, it still needed some renovation (unsightly rugs were lying on the floor, probably to cover the old/dirty carpet, the shower faucet was very hard to operate, and a few minor issues). The good location, just a few minutes' walk from the old town, is worth mentioning. We also had dinner at the restaurant. The meatloaf and pork medallions were delicious, and the service was very friendly! However, I found the dessert completely overpriced and not tasty. 3 scoops of ice cream with a little whipped cream on top for €7.50?!

Nice typical German restaurant but the personnel was smoking and drinking during our entire dinner. A lot of smokers on the terrace which unfortunately ruined our experience including the slightly intoxicated crew.

We were stopping over at the Hotel Bayrischer Hof. The hotel room was fine for one night. Clean, the bathroom was fairly new, but the rest of the furniture was a bit dated and could use a fresh coat of paint. The beds were a bit older, but okay. The creaking of the old beams in the building was loud. On the other hand, the location was excellent: a 5-minute walk from the first city gate, with a large free parking lot opposite. Overall, it was fine for a short stay. The restaurant of the same name, with a beer garden, is run independently of the hotel by very friendly and helpful owners. It gets 5 stars for service, value for money, draft Augustiner beer, and Bavarian and Austrian cuisine. Everything is highly recommended.

We stayed overnight on the day the kitchen was closed. The breakfast was good. We slept in a beautifully renovated room. The old town is just a few minutes' walk away.

Four of us ate here today and were thrilled. Welcoming hosts, friendly staff, and excellent food—we'd love to come back.

Self-service hotel. Keys with codes. Rooms are OK and functional. Fine for a one-night stay. Free parking is available directly across the street or behind the hotel for a fee.

Just so we're clear, I'm only reviewing the restaurant at the Bayerischer Hof. Strangely, the two are separate. The food is still cooked properly! Everything is homemade. Hand-cut fries, shaved spaetzle, and so on... A small menu, but fine. The staff is very friendly and you immediately feel at home. Express your wishes, and you will be pampered. Important: Be nice, the people there deserve it ☺️

We stayed here overnight while passing through. The room was very clean, but also very simply furnished. The bathroom is dated and in need of a thorough renovation. The attached restaurant deserves special mention – the food was extremely delicious, as was the breakfast. Our conclusion: The restaurant – we'd gladly return! The hotel – it's not necessary. There are better and cheaper inns in the area. However, the hotel is just a few meters from the historic old town.

Very friendly staff (from the restaurant on the ground floor). The parking lot is desolate - however, there is a free, very tidy public parking lot directly across the street with plenty of space during our stay. The entrance area and rooms give me a somewhat "worn" impression. The restaurant is located directly in the building, so the "room fragrance concept" in the stairwell reflects this. The location is very good, just a few steps from the old town. Good accessibility is another plus point. The attached restaurant is impeccable. Good and fair prices. Friendly, hospitable staff. Overall, the price-performance ratio, based on the overnight stay, wasn't quite right for me. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is definitely worth a visit.

We were on vacation in the area and on our arrival day it was a little later and it was no longer easy to find a restaurant that was still open. With a lot of luck we discovered the Bayerischer Hof and the friendly team cooked a delicious meal for us. The quality of the food is very good, everything was fresh and homemade. So it's still really old school. The ambience is also very nicely designed and attention is paid to the details. Add to that a fresh Augustiner on tap and the nice exchange with the bosses, it couldn't be better!

Wonderful meal - traditional food freshly and perfectly prepared. Served by Falk who was friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining. The dining room is a nice blend of historic old world charm with modern touches.

As repeat offenders, we were happy to go back and bring guests with us. The hotel with its rustic charm right in front of the city wall is good, we loved the restaurant, in addition to the good breakfast, we also liked the dishes for the evening so much that we never even thought of going somewhere else, super tasty and very nice hosts

I only went to eat here - but I was really impressed by the nice owner and the great food and the animals in the toilet;-). We'll definitely be back.

I booked a room in December 2024 through the hotel’s website, which clearly stated free cancellation was available up to 7 days before arrival. Wanting to upgrade to a larger room, I attempted to cancel my original booking a month in advance. Despite reaching out over three times via email and through the form on the website, I received no response. Upon arrival, the hotel had no record of my cancellation, and I ended up with two bookings under my name. I raised this issue with the front desk, and after checking with their head office in Munich, I was told a refund for the first room would be processed within a week. It has now been over four months, and I have yet to receive any refund or follow-up. Very disappointing service and lack of communication for what should have been a straightforward process.

The hotel is NOT what I want to describe to you. Yes the rooms are clean and YES the machine for the keys works perfectly and YES the checkout is easy to do at breakfast... but none of that is what moves me to a recession. The restaurant is even more so! No frills on the menu or on the plate. Hand-scraped spaetzle and beautifully buttery potatoes as it should be. The onion roast is enthroned on the plate and wouldn't play a bad role in a steakhouse. The von Richthofen pan with mushroom cream sauce is also recommended. In addition, wonderfully cold Augustiner comes from the expertly managed tap and is brought to you by friendly, attentive waiters. In general, the von Richthofen family has designed a wonderful place and makes every meal something special. As an Austrian, I am happy about Viennese coffee house culture, especially when ordering coffee and a real Kaiserschmarrn. I don't know your grandmothers BUT my grandmother didn't make it any better. Go back as soon as possible... as a recommendation

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Bayerischer Hof in Rothenburg ob der Tauber! Everything was just great - from the friendly and attentive service to the cozy atmosphere to the really excellent food. We also found the pleasant atmosphere among the guests particularly nice - all nice people with whom you enjoy chatting. We'll definitely be back!

Repeat offender... Rooms very nice. But now to the most important thing... roulades. Rarely have I had such a beautiful taste experience. Roulades are tender as butter, potatoes wonderfully tossed in butter with fresh herbs. And the red cabbage was absolutely perfect. Thanks. Always my pleasure

We only went to the restaurant to eat and it was really delicious. The waiter was very courteous and funny, the food was a culinary delight, we had the onion roast and the gratinated Camembert and the highlight was the Kaiserschmarrn. Highly recommended!

We spontaneously wanted to go out for something to eat last weekend and the advertising sign with the cheese spaetzle in front of the restaurant door appealed to us. When we entered we were told that these were unfortunately no longer available, but that everything else was available on a card. We stayed, and unfortunately that was a mistake because it took a good hour from the moment we ordered until we received the food. There was no information that it might take a little longer or that they might have forgotten our order. We were skillfully “overlooked” when trying to contact the staff. Even if the food was ultimately tasty and the staff were generally nice, unfortunately that can't make up for the general disappointment.

Went spontaneously for dinner today. Very friendly staff and very informative story about Baron Manfred von Richthofen. The food and drink was very nice and tasted great. Highly recommended. ... And the restaurant is also very tastefully decorated, even mayo and ketchup were served in a crazy way. Very pleasant lighting concept 😍

Unfortunately we were very disappointed. My husband wanted to reserve a table as soon as he booked his room. He received no response to this email. When we asked by phone on the day of arrival, we were told that the restaurant was closed. The room was getting old. Basically not a problem, but when we entered the room we immediately noticed a bad smell. After we ventilated and let the water run, it worked. There was mold in the shower and some of the tiles were dirty and chipped. The bed covers, like the sheets, were torn. Emergency vehicles kept driving during the night, so ventilation was out of the question. The restaurant on the ground floor was in better shape and also inviting. The breakfast was OK. Eggs were freshly prepared upon request. I think you have to differentiate between a hotel and a restaurant.

I only visited the restaurant, we ate very well here. The meat/steak was perfectly medium/rear, something even steakhouses can't do like that. Unfortunately we were just passing through otherwise we would come back.

Stayed on January 27-28, 2025. It was a trip of parents and daughter. Parking was free across from the entrance of the accommodation. The most satisfying thing was the location! It is very close to downtown Rothenburg. There is also a good 5 minutes away. Breakfast did not have a variety of food, but it was clean. Since it is a hotel with an old tradition, there is no elevator, so it may be a little difficult for guests with a lot of luggage. However, I was satisfied, so I want to stay at this hotel again next time I visit. Stay from 27th to 28th January 2025. It was a trip with my parents and my daughter. Parking was free opposite the entrance to the property. The most pleasing thing is the location! Very close to downtown Rothenburg. There is also a supermarket 5 minutes away. The breakfast was decent, but didn't offer a large selection of dishes. As this is a hotel with a long history, there is no elevator, so guests with a lot of luggage may have difficulty. However, I was satisfied and would like to stay at this hotel again on my next visit.

We were at the Bavarian Hof Essen this week, quite cozy. The selection of food is not too big, but there is still something for everyone. We decided on the daily recommendation for €16.90, Jägerschnitzel & roast pork. Good home cooking for this money, the portions were also completely sufficient, we were full. Where there is a deduction is the service. Unfortunately I sat dry for a long time, the waiter didn't pay any attention to the guests and instead sat in front of a laptop, which was a shame.

We chose the restaurant for our dinner. We received a very warm and friendly welcome. The guest room is open and very nicely rustic furnished. The food was very good and also very nicely prepared. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

I can only confirm it again this year. We went there again to eat and, like last year, it was great. Highly recommended!!! The restaurant is a real insider tip. Great value for money. A few steps walk from the old town, but really worth it. Large portions, very good quality, great taste and a reasonable price. The small family-run house surprised us with a cozy room, the staff is consistently friendly and in the evening we met with local friends in the restaurant, the latter was also quite convincing and stood out with its freshness and homemade food 😊. We spontaneously looked for a place to have lunch on Sunday and after a few rejections (unfortunately many things in RED are not possible without a reservation) we found it in the Bayerischer Hof. Very tasty food (we had Wiener Schnitzel with potato and cucumber salad and a potato and mushroom pan with beans and tomatoes), very friendly and fast service, very good service. Would love to come back.

The apartment was beautifully renovated. The large bathroom was absolutely great. As a family of 4, we had enough space. The staff were great and we didn't miss anything at breakfast.

We had the 2 bedroom suite, which wasn't exactly cheap. What was annoying was that it was actually only 1 room, because the second, very, very small room had no door. Another bad thing was that you couldn't darken the windows. The bathroom was nice. The parking lot behind the house was in a disastrous condition. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired - my mother, who was already a bit older, was not offered to carry her suitcase up for her. The location was good - about 5 minutes walk from the center.

Just ate at the restaurant. It was delicious and so beautifully prepared. Salmon fried in a sesame crust and pork cheeks with leek puree and fried onions. Highly recommended.

We had a large salad plate with goat's cheese and cheese spaetzle with a side salad: The dressing was very tasty with the composition of leaf lettuce with cucumbers, peppers in all colors, tomatoes and spring onions. The goat cheese was grilled to perfection and refined with honey. Overall, the portion was barely manageable. The spaetzle was prepared with an excellent mixture of mountain cheeses, roasted and spring onions. I would order them again on another visit without looking at the menu. The service was friendly, attentive and highly professional: quick despite the large number of guests. Remarkable performance in the kitchen and by the lady serving. For the guest room, I recommend installing sound-absorbing elements.
