Bären in Freiburg im Breisgau

We ordered via Uber Eats: a schnitzel with spaetzle and cream sauce + a salad. Schnitzel with fries and gravy arrived, the salad was completely missing. In addition, the schnitzels are super thick and fluffy. It's a shame, unfortunately there's nothing wrong with that.

(Update 2024) Very good and down-to-earth cuisine, reasonable prices and a varied menu. Great service and nice atmosphere. Very popular and a reservation or a short telephone inquiry is not a bad idea. No more consistently warm food at lunchtime!

We ate here based on a recommendation and had 2 starters and 2 main courses. We each received a salad in advance. Everything tasted world class! It's very comfortable to sit here. There were even treats for our dog and a bowl of fresh water. Very dog ​​friendly. However, we were irritated with our drinks. We each ordered a large Sprite and discovered that they had been diluted with water. We also tried each other's Sprite and there were differences in taste here too. What a shame! But the staff can't know that with us they are catching two professional soft drink connoisseurs who can immediately spot any deviation. The staff was very attentive at all times and we were even reminded that the kitchen was closing and asked if we would like to order a dessert beforehand. Really great! We'll come back and then just drink water, wine or beer. Then it's perfect.👌

Update 8/15/24 Super fast response from the owner and contact via email. Plausible apology and offer of a voucher in case of a second chance. Of course we like to do it after the holidays - as written: mistakes can and may happen. Therefore upgrade from 1 to 4 stars. We felt like we were on “hidden camera.” Ordered a light yeast - forgot about it for now. Then, after 15 minutes, a light beer (Tegernseer) arrived. Next came a Pilsner after another 5 minutes 😂 and after another 10 minutes finally the light yeast. The salads came in a timely manner and all 3 came together. My wife and son's main courses came while I had to wait forever for my turkey schnitzel. Then my family was almost finished eating when my supposed food arrived. Unfortunately it was pot roast - something completely different than what was ordered. I was asked if I wanted this food - of course I didn't like it. So keep waiting. My wife and son were now finished. I told the waitress that I didn't want my food anymore, but was kind enough to take it after all. After 2 hours had already passed, we wanted to pay quickly and leave. Again, even after asking twice, no one came. My wife then went to the counter and paid. When she came from the toilet, she said the table had been mixed up on the bill and an additional €26.30 had to be paid. So I also paid extra - despite everything, the restaurant could have avoided this bad rating - but there wasn't even a small attention - no espresso, no drink, no ice cream - just nothing. Mistakes can happen - but then I have to be able to apologize. We won't be coming back and can't recommend the restaurant, even if the quality of the food was decent.

We ate there on the Friday before the lake festival because we didn't want to spend a lot of money at the festival. A location that still pays attention to quality. Homemade spaetzle and fresh salad have unfortunately become a foreign concept for many people. Not at Bären, here it's fresh and portions are plentiful. Price in normal range even though it is fresh. We'd love to come back.

Food is pretty good and people are very friendly. It feels like more a place for people with more life experience but that also means it's a very cost place. Note though, if you want the ribs, order them in advance, we did not manage to get any unfortunately. Would come again though!

My visit to the Bären inn was very pleasant. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. We were particularly impressed by the fast and friendly service. The service staff was always attentive and made sure that we felt completely comfortable. The price-performance ratio was absolutely understandable. Even if the inn is not located directly in the city, it is easy to reach thanks to the good connection with the S-Bahn. The short journey is definitely worth it and offers the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and dine in a cozy atmosphere.

So cozy, even warm meals for lunch on Saturdays. We received a very friendly welcome and service, everyone was completely satisfied, we would visit the bear again and again and recommend it to others.

We went to the beer garden here late in the evening and enjoyed a delicious Ganter beer. I found the beer garden and the inn inside very nice. Great ambience. I personally found the service to be quite direct.

Delicious Spätzle with cream sauce

We went for dinner with a group of 7 people. We were all completely satisfied. The food was consistently very tasty. What we particularly liked was the friendly and professional manner of all the service staff. Attentive but not intrusive and concerned about our satisfaction. We'll definitely be back :-)

The bear is a great asset to the west of Freiburg. Others can hardly keep up with the inexpensive lunch. The quality is right. Compliments to the kitchen and thanks to the fast service...

Cozy dining room in warm wooden tones and a large, leafy terrace with trees and large umbrellas as a beer garden. Despite being close to Padua and Sundgau Allee, the Gasthof/Hotel Bären in Freiburg-Lehen/Betzenhausen is very quiet and romantically located in the countryside. Not to be confused with the “Red Bear” in Freiburg-Oberlinden! Parking lots available. You can also easily get to Padua-Allee with tram line 1 and buses no. 10, 19, 21, 31, 32 and it only takes a few minutes to walk from this stop; You can get here even faster from the Betzenhauser Torplatz stop (line 1). Very friendly service. Cheap, delicious lunch even on Saturday lunchtime when many restaurants are closed. Today, September 14th, 2019, the starter was a large bowl of mixed salad, and the main course was wild boar ragout with spaetzle and cranberries. Lavish portion (see photo) that I could hardly handle! Good regional and German dishes are served here. We recommend! My photos provide perspectives and insights!

I've been coming to the bear regularly for two decades. It's always a pleasure to come back. Everyone is friendly and motivated. The plates are well filled and the quality is right. Price performance is also right. It has become a bit more modern in recent years, but that doesn't change the traditional ambience. Thank you and have a good week for the bear team.

We got a table at short notice on Saturday evening, very friendly and fast service, food came really quickly, even though the restaurant was full, we all enjoyed it very much..... Ambience only 4 stars because we had a very narrow table .

Very friendly restaurant with nice employees. We ate a cordon bleu and the gourmet pan. The meat from the Pfännle was well cooked and the mushrooms were also delicious. Unfortunately, the sauce and the spaetzle were a bit bland. The cordon bleu was okay (we've had much better), but the sauce could have gotten you drunk. Unfortunately it just tasted like wine. The dressing on the side salad was an absolute disaster. Tasted unseasoned and like a mixture of yogurt and mayo. In addition, the prices are really not cheap, so we expected something different. Dear chef, please try the sauce and dressing! Maybe we can work on it again :) All the best!

Very stable, good quality at reasonable prices. Great meat dishes. The delicious side salads, which also deserve the name, are positive (and have become rare). Small deduction for the fact that some tables get cold through the entrance door in winter.

Spontan essen gehen. Obwohl wir keine Reservierung hatten wurde für uns zwei ein Plätzchen gefunden. Ich hatte den badischen Sauerbraten, der schon mal sehr köstlich war. Normalerweise war der Tisch schon wieder gebucht, doch die sehr sympathische Servicekraft hat es ermöglicht das wir noch ein Weilchen bleiben konnten. Also noch Suchen nach einer leckeren Nachspeise. Ich habe Bonbon Vanilleeis auf Rumtopffrüchten mit Sahne gewählt. Was für eine Köstlichkeit, für Schlemmer ein unbedingtes Muss. Danke an die Küche und den Service, ein gelungener Freitag Abend. Wir waren acht Personen zum Abendessen im Gasthaus Bären. Das Gasthaus ist sehr gemütlich und der Service hervorragend; freundlich, sehr aufmerksam und flexibel. Es wird viel Wert auf lokale Lieferanten und Produkte gelegt. Dieser Umstand kombiniert mit der sorgfältigen Zubereitung waren ein Gaumenschmaus. Und schliesslich noch das herausragende Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. So preiswert und gut isst man sehr selten. Vielen Dank für den schönen Abend!

Ein Lob an die Küche, das Badische Schlemmerpfännle war ultra lecker und würde nochmals kommen...Nur bei der Dessertkarte und bei der Rechnung haben wir etwas warten müssen, aber das fällt nicht weiter ins Gewicht wenns eine Ausnahme bleibt. Grüße

Freiburger Gasthaus mit tollem, leckeren Essen, wie manes sich wünscht (aber viel zu selten noch findet) - auch gesamtes Team richtig auf Zacke und man kennt und schätzt hier seine vielen Stammgäste. Man merkt auch dass die Chefin in vorderster Reihe immer aktiv mit dabei ist. Wichtig Reservierung machen - viele Gäste kennen & mögen das Gasthaus Bären :-)

Waren gestern nach längerer Zeit auch endlich mal wieder im Bären. Essen wie immer total lecker. Auf den freundlichen Service mussten wir nicht lange warten. Wir hatten mal wieder alle Klassiker am Tisch, von den leckeren Spare-ribs (ich liebe die Knoblauchsauce) bis zum Schniposa, alle Familienmitglieder waren restlos begeistert. Danke für den gemütlichen Abend bei euch und das sehr leckere Essen.

Wir kamen spontan und obwohl voll war bekamen wir einen schönen Tisch und haben sehr lecker gegessen, vielen Dank. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Fam. Hirt

Ich war zum ersten Mal in diesem Lokal und habe nur die besten Eindrücke sammeln können. Obwohl das Lokal fast bis auf den letzten Platz besetzt war und wir keine Reservierung hatten, wurde uns für 2 Personen schnell ein Tisch zugewiesen. Sogleich wurden wir auch bedient. Essen ist ein Gedicht. Wer leckere badische Küche sucht, wird hier definitiv fündig, geschmacklich ein Highlight. Dem Personal muss man besondere Komplimente aussprechen. Sehr nett, zuvorkommend und unheimlich freundlich. Jederzeit wieder und in jedem Fall empfehlenswert.

Wir waren gestern mit Freunden im Gasthaus Bären essen und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Wir wurden herzlich von der Chefin empfangen und unseren Tisch gebracht. Der Service war super, obwohl der Laden voll war. Dad Essen war sehr gut, wir können es nur weiterempfehlen. Wir werden garantiert wiederkommen.

Waren dreimal im September dort - Service recht fix, besonders der ganz junge Mann sehr freundlich. Speisen und Getränke in Ordnung zu dem Preis, auch draußen sitzen war möglich

Badische Küche. Schmackhaft, frisch zubereitet und aufmerksame, freundliche Bedienung. Wir waren an 2 aufeinander folgenden Tagen dort, da es uns sehr gut gefallen hat.
