Ayinger am Platzl in München

Warm environment, delicious dishes but nothing special. Very good service.

We went there for dinner as a family during our trip to Europe, hoping for a pleasant meal—but unfortunately, the experience was quite the opposite. After being seated at our table, we waited for quite some time without receiving any menus. Eventually, my sister politely asked for them, and instead of a simple apology or quick service, the waiter responded with a sarcastic, “Are you in a hurry?”—a comment that felt unnecessarily rude and completely inappropriate to say to guests. The service continued to disappoint. When we asked for the check, I paid by card. The card machine screen popped up with four options: 5%, 10%, 15%, and a fourth button in German—which I couldn’t read. I assumed it meant “no tip,” so I tapped it. However, it actually led me to a screen where I had to manually enter the tip amount. At that moment, the same waiter leaned in and asked, in a pressuring tone, how much I wanted to tip. I told him I wouldn’t be tipping—explaining that I had simply pressed the wrong button because I didn’t understand German. But instead of listening, he seemed to misunderstand the situation and assumed I didn’t speak English. He raised his voice at me, asking again how much I want to tip—as if I couldn’t comprehend him. It was extremely impolite, condescending, and completely unnecessary. The food itself didn’t make up for the poor service either—it was average at best, and the sausage was overly salty. What bothered me most was the sense of entitlement to a tip, despite the clear lack of hospitality. I’m always happy to tip generously when service is warm, attentive, and respectful—but that wasn’t the case here. And to top it all off, after I declined to tip, the waiter dropped the receipt on our table with an attitude that made his discontent obvious—further proving exactly why a tip wasn’t deserved. All in all, it was a disappointing and uncomfortable experience—one I wouldn’t recommend to others.

I can only recommend the Ayinger am Platzl. Service was very good. The food was also very good and plentiful. The drinks were also great. Always my pleasure.

I recently discovered a rather good restaurant in Munich While they do offer other dishes which are also quite tasty, I found the Kalb Schnitzel (Veal Schnitzel) at this particular restaurant to be exceptionally delicious and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The Schnitzel itself had such a wonderful inherent flavour that, honestly, no separate sauce was really needed to appreciate its quality fully. A standout feature was the very tender texture of the veal. The accompanying potatoes were also prepared expertly, achieving that desirable crispiness on the outside whilst remaining soft in the middle, serving as an excellent complement to the Schnitzel. I had a truly enjoyable dining experience combining the delicious Schnitzel and potatoes with a beer. Based on this very positive visit, it is certainly a restaurant I would make a point of revisiting if I come back to Munich.

This place was good enough we came back a second time. Much of that had to do with the waitstaff that made this such a good experience. I had seen Ayinger Bier at home in the US and because of that we stopped in. Ended up having a German version of a charcuterie board that was excellent. Beers were all good. Second night we had dinner, and it also didn’t disappoint. Some of the better prices around, good food for a good price.

Tourists are given a false menu (less choice and rather expensive dishes) so that they only order selected dishes. When confronted, the manager of the restaurant was extremely unsympathetic and unprofessional. I actually liked the idea of ​​eating here, but after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

Well, the Ayinger Brauhaus is a real institution in the area! The beer is a dream – so good, you can swim in it! Cheers to the art of brewing! The food is really tasty, so there's nothing to complain about. Only: a little more on the plate wasn't a shame. In the past, there was no legendary pepper knuckle - I ate it and was full for three days. The Nimma has been around for over 10 years, and I don't mourn her at all. Because of us: Mia was unfortunately a little too late. But be sure to let us know in advance by phone and email - apparently it disappeared under the table. So I'll have to wait at the counter first. But: The waitress was super friendly and got us to the table quickly when Oana was free. So it's not all that bad. Bottom line: beer is outstanding, food is great (if there was a little more), atmosphere is unique. Marvin likes it – and in the end that’s the most important thing anyway!

Typical Bavarian dinner. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. 😊 We ate roast pork in Bavarian sauce (large portions). To conclude, a delicious dessert with warm vanilla sauce and cherries. A portion for three because we wouldn't have been able to eat anything else. 😅😅

Schnitzel very very tasty. To be honest, the side dish (fried potatoes) wasn't particularly good. The Ayinger’s beer wasn’t to my liking either. The main course, schnitzel, was so good that it deserved 5 stars all in all.

I definitely recommend it, great place, probably more for young people, the service was fast and pleasant, the atmosphere of the place also has something to it.

We were really looking forward to 1 - 2 light drinks. We find Ayinger in particular very tasty. Unfortunately it was more or less sent away and there was no room for customers at the counter for 5-10 minutes. If only the Lord in heaven would see this...

The food, atmosphere, and vibes were al terrific. The food was delicious. Meat was moist, and the sauce was delicate. The dessert was phenomenal. I'm glad that we ordered two because I wouldn't have wanted to share with another person. The ice cream tasted as if it were made fresh in-house, berries were so fresh I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that our waitress had gone and picked them herself. Amazing experience.

When I wanted to pay, the waitress added tip himself and asked if it is fine. At this situation it is pretty hard to say no of course. Tip is volunteer, if I want, I would say it. No need automatic addition. I find it pretty rude and unprofessional. Never again

Ayinger is simply the best pub in Munich. We spent a lovely evening there yesterday. An extremely friendly lady brought us to the table, an equally nice waitress was in charge of us and the food (Wirtshaus Reindl for 2) was very tasty. The great live music topped it all off. You should definitely make a reservation.

So our first impression was a nice atmosphere, very nice and friendly staff, our meal for lunch was one Viennese schnitzel, roast ox with potatoes and vegetables and one pressed cheese dumpling with sauerkraut, everything was very good, many thanks to the chef and his staff 👍

Food: I had the Wiener Schnitzel with fried potatoes. It had a super light and airy breading and was impressive. My companions all had something different, and the food was also high quality and flavorful. The portions were moderate. For dessert, we had the Kaiserschmarren (sweet pancakes), which was caramelized with almond slivers and served with apple and plum compote. This, too, was delicious. Service: Very attentive, not too intrusive, and with a generous portion of the typical inn's marinara. Top! Atmosphere: Inn meets modern. Elegant, timeless, yet cozy.

A beer restaurant operated by Ayinger, located across from Hofbräuhaus. Ayinger is one of the famous Bavarian breweries established in 1877 in Aying, a suburb of Munich, not Munich. Compared to Hofbräuhaus, it is relatively small in size and has more of a restaurant character than a beer hall. It would be fine to just drink beer, but I visited to enjoy a meal and food. The atmosphere is a good balance of classic and modern, and the staff were wearing traditional clothing. The beer is okay, but the food prices felt expensive overall. The must-try beer is Kellerbier, which is a lager brewed without filtering from an underground cellar. It is not heavy, like a bright, cloudy color, but clean and refreshing. The food is all about the typical German food, so I ordered schnitzel after much thought. However, since it is written as Wiener schnitzel on the menu, it is actually Austrian food. Two pieces of veal cutlet were garnished with thinly sliced ​​fried potatoes and cranberry jam was also served. I tasted the french fries first and they had a chewy texture like rice cakes, which was appealing. Next, I cut the cutlet and took a bite. The bread crumbs were moister than the cotoletta alla Milanese I had in Milan. The taste was not bad, with the tender veal meat chewed along with the crispiness of the parsley. The part that was quite refreshing was the combination with the cranberry jam, but since it was not greasy like a tonkatsu, it was not burdensome even if I added sweetness. However, I still think that this is the worst food in terms of cost-effectiveness. PS. It is worth coming here to drink Kellerbier.

The service was very friendly and also responded to special requests. The food was extremely tasty, especially the salads were fresh, crunchy and well balanced. The caramelized Kaiserschmarrn as dessert is also highly recommended.

I've eaten here a Wiener Schnitzel without breading as I told them I had to eat gluten free and it was great, but when i've entered in the restaurant that they told me they could prepare a wiener schnitzel and I thought a complete version with breading. But anyway i'll advice this place if you want to try tipical german dishes

Beautiful, dignified inn with copper corners and cozy corners. Beer good as always and food decent. If you absolutely have to eat at Platzl, this is preferable to Hofbräu in my opinion.

Even though I went without a reservation, they did not turn me away. The pork was great and the beers are amazing. It's a good idea to make a reservation before you go.

Nice location, despite being a tourist hotspot. We were lucky that a 3-man combo played there. Attentive service and clean toilets. The beer is great and so was my wife's food. But: I had the blandest roast pork ever. Unfortunately I didn't like it at all. There is still a lot of room for improvement. Reservation is recommended.

The food was very tasty, only the sauerkraut was a bit too sour for my standards and the service was nice, quick and friendly, even in Bavarian costumes, only at the end when you didn't want to tip at least 5% there was an annoyed "yes, yes".

Standard Bavarian food. The food was good, we’re just not huge fans of the cuisine. The beer was very tasty and made the meal worth it for me. We showed up without a reservation and were able to get a table for 2 on a busy early Friday evening.

That was nothing today. Open until midnight on Fridays, at 10 p.m. there was no more food, but the waitress had promised to bring us pretzels, which I'm still waiting for. Ordered cellar beer, but received light beer without comment. Shortly before 11 p.m. we wanted coffee, but it wasn't possible, the coffee machine had already been switched off. I used to enjoy going to Ayinger with visitors. The times are now over when there are now much better alternatives in the center.

We were there Saturday evening, February 25, 2025. We just wanted to have a few beers. We were turned away at the door with the rude words: we're full. But I saw that there was still space at the counter. We weren't allowed to drink beer outside either, it was supposedly forbidden. So for a brewery, really underground, I've rarely had such a bad experience in a brewery.

It's a shame if you overlook this great inn because of all the hustle and bustle around the Hofbräuhaus! Here you can get fantastic beer (from wooden barrels) and a uniquely delicious pepper knuckle. With every visit you can discover a new highlight (e.g. the wheat beer sorbet).

This place, which the operators call a "restaurant", is more like an unfriendly food delivery point. A “successful visit to a pub includes attentive service and delicious delicacies”. The “director” sees this the same way we do. However, these criteria were not met. Instead, when we arrived we were shown to our seats and after just a few minutes we were asked for our order (food and drinks). The drinks (unfortunately Cola Mix is ​​not a Paulaner Spezi) came very quickly and the food was brought out after less than 10 minutes. This gave the impression that on the one hand it was not freshly prepared and on the other hand it was supposed to be done as quickly as possible so that new guests could take our seats. The schnitzel with the fried potatoes was good, but the fried potatoes were very spicy and sometimes hard (dried out / old), and the taste was not as good. The meat patties with the potato salad were also good, but the potato salad was very sour and contained some raw pieces. In my opinion, the few glazed radish slices (approx. 4) are not worth mentioning on the menu, as this gives the impression that they are used in the salad. However, the salad contained cucumber pieces (more than radishes), which, unlike the radishes, were not listed on the menu. However, these were a pleasant ingredient due to the sourness of the salad. The lamb's lettuce was in three whole florets on the salad, not as individual leaves mixed into the potato salad as expected. The older waiter with the glasses (according to the bill: Dejan) was extremely unfriendly. The following reason: He asked the neighboring tables about the quality of the food and satisfaction. Unfortunately he didn't come to us. However, he came straight after dinner and cleared away without addressing the remaining leftovers (whether they were packed, whether they were still eating, or why they were left). Afterwards he asked in an unfriendly and snippy manner whether we wanted dessert or another drink. When we answered these questions in the negative, the waiter was visibly annoyed and disappointed. A short time later, to his disappointment, we said no to the drink question again and ordered the bill instead. Since we weren't satisfied with our visit overall due to the service, the food and the surrounding atmosphere, we decided not to leave a tip. You had to select this yourself on the EC device. The waiter was visibly shocked and asked in a snarky tone why we didn't leave a tip. He dismissed our reasoning unkindly with the words: "That can't be right" and unfortunately didn't accept it as criticism.

A very nice restaurant with friendly service where you ask whether you should continue after the starter or whether there should be a break. Very accommodating. There was a delicious parsley root soup and the main course was fried char with potato ratatouille, which was super tasty. And for dessert a pannacotta with pear compote and chocolate tart. I went on Christmas day and visited a little earlier than dinner time. I didn't make a reservation, but they kindly seated me. After receiving directions, the server girl was very personable and took good care of me, leaving me with good memories.

The atmosphere and the staff are beyond amazing, but the food that i had was kinda dry and overcooked or cooked with out love. But i might been just unlucky choosing the dish because the portions are big and you get fool from one dish. Would definitely recommend never the less my experience with the taste

What a great place! Not a tourist trap, the food was true Bavarian fare. The beer was fantastic too. Mathias (spelling may be wrong) gave excellent suggestions and took great care of us.

You must come here ㅠㅠ Don't go to Hofbrau on the other side, but come here ㅠㅠ We came right at the opening time of 11 o'clock, and despite that, they opened the door very kindly and welcomed us ㅠㅠ All menus are available from 12 o'clock. Because of the 12:54 train to Berlin, we were only able to eat beer and white sausage (available until 11-12) for 25 minutes, but we were very satisfied. The ambience and service convinced us, but not the food. The soup had no seasoning at all, the caramelized cabbage was drowned in butter, the fried potatoes were more fried than fried and the Kaiserschmarrn had nothing of the “light pancake” quality to it. In my opinion the price is not justified. As Austrians, we expected more from Bavarian cuisine! Too bad!

On our last day in Munich it was a rainy Sunday afternoon, we wandered into Ayinger am Platzl for lunch. What we got was a 5* culinary adventure with our wonderful personable and professional waiter Dennis. The food was delicious, I had the roast pork (which had been marinated for 24 hours), my husband had the beef roulade, we both had the cabbage salad at Dennis’s recommendation. It was all divine and I’m now back home going through recipes trying to duplicate! Dessert was the tiramisu with fruit compote, amazing. Thank you Dennis for your exemplary service and suggestions for what was our best meal and dining experience in Munich. PS We had originally set out to go to Hofbrau Haus but the noise and chaos caused us to walk out, Ayinger am Platzl is across the street.

The beef roulade was quite large, but unfortunately very tough and almost impossible to cut and chew. Was it only braised for 15 minutes? The wild mushroom risotto was bordering on soup. Mushrooms were barely visible. All in all not justified for the price.

The ambience is great, but the service can be very happy to provide additional training on the subject of stress resistance. We were guests in a large family group and when we arrived it was unclear where we were sitting. Although the restaurant had just opened at that time and no seats were occupied in the entire restaurant. Our waitress (according to her statement, she's been there for a month, it's not an issue) had our understanding up to a certain point. Unfortunately, that stopped after it took us almost half an hour until she explained the brunch to us clearly (you have to choose which two dishes you want right away and some dishes are only available from 12 p.m.) and the dishes we wanted could be picked up. After another 1.5 hours, our waitress was kindly informed that we were still waiting for our food. Shortly afterwards everything happened. Food that was actually warm was already just before cold and the white sausages had been in the water for far too long. When the dishes were served, the wrong dish was on the plate twice, which caused the waitress to slip past a passive tantrum. Unfortunately it was very disappointing to be treated like that as a guest (there were 17 of us). One point at the end. Selling tap water for EUR 4.90 as “tapped” water (0.7l) is really a big deal.

The design of the place is super authentic. They are offering a great range of Aynger beers from tap. The staff is very nice and professional. I'd say food range wasn't the one I would personally prefer, but that depends on my personal preferences. Even though I ordered tapas and it was very delicious. Would definitely come back there for another round of beers.

The kitchen was flexible and spontaneously prepared a gluten-free, vegan dish despite the high number of visitors. The food tasted good. Unfortunately, the positive experience was overshadowed by the repeated outrageous behavior of the service employees. I would no longer visit the location for this reason. Nevertheless, it would be great if more dishes for people with intolerances were permanently on the menu. The atmosphere was a bit hectic and loud. In summary: cuisine good, no vegan-gluten-free dishes on the current menu, service unfortunately poor.

The Ayinger am Platzl restaurant offers a small selection of vegan dishes that taste impressive. Eat: + Vegan main course: Excellent, no complaints. + Vegan baked apple tiramisu: Absolute highlight, highly recommended. - Vegan selection: Somewhat limited, a larger selection would be desirable. Service: - Rude and inattentive. - There is an urgent need for improvement in the service area. Conclusion: In terms of cuisine, the restaurant offers excellent vegan options. However, the limited selection and poor service spoil the overall impression.

I wouldn’t come back. Once the waitress found out we weren’t ordering an entire meal at 230 in the afternoon she completely ignored us. We asked for the check several times and never got it. Poor showing for an establishment in the heart of a tourist area during Christmas time.
