We arrived at the restaurant by surprise. The owner of the restaurant welcomed us happily and took care of us. The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and beautiful. The food was excellent. All the dishes were delicious. The meat is of the highest quality..highly recommended

Friendly and attentive staff, accustomed to tourists. The food was delicious and arrived quickly – they were very responsive to special requests. Reservations are essential, especially for larger groups. Located directly opposite the cathedral and just a short walk from Talplatz or Marienplatz.

I was at the restaurant on Saturday at lunchtime, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing overall. There was a wait of about 1 hour and 15 minutes between ordering and receiving our food. Even the glass of red wine we ordered didn't arrive until about 15 minutes later. In addition, we had to actively reorder drinks – the waiter didn't come around to our table or the surrounding tables to ask if we needed anything else. For a restaurant in this price range, this level of service is definitely unacceptable. The Wagyu dish was also a disappointment. It wasn't served as described on the menu: the red wine shallots were missing, there were steamed vegetables instead of bacon-wrapped green beans, the potatoes were cold, and even the meat was only lukewarm. After we complained, the dish was taken back to the kitchen, but it returned unchanged, with the explanation that the ingredients listed on the menu were "out of stock." As compensation, we were offered only a shot of schnapps – completely inappropriate in our opinion. Although the wrong dish was ultimately charged at 50%, the overall impression remained negative. While the food tasted good and the location is charmingly rustic, it was extremely loud, so the atmosphere was also disappointing. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Was able to drop in and grab a quick seat even though it was super busy (not surprised after eating here). I got the sausage platter with sauerkraut and creamy mashed potatoes. Probably my favorite meal so far on our trip but the surprise of it all was the sauerkraut which I normally don’t always eat due to the taste but I guess Germans do it right. My wife got the wagyu bolognese and she loved it as well. I would come here again and love to try other dishes.

We went to the company Christmas dinner and it was very nice and very delicious.

A very cozy restaurant; the food – the snack – was delicious. The mulled wine was especially good. The restrooms on the first floor were very modern and clean.

Absolutely stellar experience. They have their own beers which taste amazing. I ordered the Schweinshaxe and it was SO delicious. I was greeted upon entering by an older man, super nice and polite. Got me a table. The waiter I got was also super polite and I felt right at home. Would come back again 100%. The dinner cost around 22 eur but my selected price range was because of 2 beers and a schnapps.

One of the many fine upscale foodspots in Munich for those who love traditional quality Bavarian food and its top drinks . The menucard shows a variety of typical “homemade” Bavarian dishes and the wine list a variety of top wines and champagne . Tonight was for me no difference compared to my lunch hour when I visited it for the first time . Top quality in taste , preparation and service . In all : A joy ! and worth repeating when visiting Munich again next year .

Nice restaurant and good vibes

A classic brewery inn; I couldn't discern any difference between it and the Hofbräuhaus, etc.! The prices are reasonable, and the food was okay too! I'm giving it three stars because it didn't quite suit my taste, as I felt like I was getting a lot of convenience food! There's no need to discuss the merits of such a thing, but it's simply not what I'm looking for! Otherwise, it's a typical tourist spot; you can certainly go there once in a while.

A bit noisy. Dishes not the best but good. Price is higher than normal. Half duck portion was smaller than other restaurants and price was 20-25% higher.

I got a table without a reservation. The staff was attentive, but a bit unfriendly due to the large number of people in the restaurant. The Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were a bit bland, and I had expected more.

Scammers...watch your bill carefully, they force you to pay a 10% tip on a €120 bill, and yell at you if you refuse, not giving you time to look at the bill. A tourist trap

Andechser am Dom is a Munich classic for authentic Bavarian cuisine. The atmosphere is lively, the service is fast and the monastery beer is excellent. Traditional dishes are well prepared in a very pleasant environment. Highly recommended for tasting the local cuisine.

The Andechs gourmet platter was very tasty, and the portion size was ample. However, the Kaiserschmarrn left something to be desired; I've had much better versions elsewhere.

Perfectly fine for Munich's city center! It's a very pleasant place, without being overrun by tourists. The (evening) food could be a bit more varied and extensive! The beer ---> highly recommended!

The waiter was very unpleasant; he took my drink away before I finished it, and the place smelled nauseating. The beer was good.

I was going to this place every time I visited Old Town in Munich and I used to enjoy everything in it, from food to friendly staff, till my last visit when one of the waiters asked me unfriendly to change my table because I sat on a table for 6 persons while I was only 1 person! I wonder why only this waiter asked me when his previous colleague who I met at the entry door told me to choose any available table there. Plus, none of the other waiters who were passing by my table said anything to me except him! ! ! Also, at the time of this visit, most tables were empty. i find this behavior rude for a regular customer .I recommend this waiter should not handling customers due to his attuite issue.

The atmosphere is good. The food, however, is average. The schnitzel was okay, but my group complained about the other dishes.

The atmosphere is typical Bavarian. Excellent food (I had the venison goulash) and a very good Andechser beer. The service is very friendly and attentive to customer needs. Very clean and quiet.

Never again. The service was consistently arrogant, even though the beer and appetizers were really good. It wasn't just one person: we interacted with a total of four or five employees, and they were all equally rude—whether it was advising us, taking our payment, or even leaving the restaurant. One waiter also reminded us six times that the kitchen was closing soon, each time in an inappropriately harsh tone. Feeling so uncomfortable, we eventually went to a neighboring restaurant where everything was smooth and friendly.

Exceptionally delicious food in a very pleasant atmosphere with very friendly and fast service. We had the Wagyu carpaccio, Obatzda (Bavarian cheese spread), roast pork, and Wagyu salsiccia. Everything was delicious!

A restaurant that delivers on its promises Andechser am Dom is a classic. The service was precise and friendly, just as you'd hope. The cuisine is Bavarian, simple, and very good. It's a touristy place, you can tell. But it remains solid, reliable, and clear about what it wants to be. You come here, and it works. Nothing more needs to be said.

Never again!!! We reserved a table for two three weeks ago, the "Herrgottswinkel" (a cozy corner with a religious image). It was supposed to be a lovely, private evening! The reservation was confirmed, but in typical Bavarian fashion, we were added to a table for five. We regularly visit the Andechser as regular customers whenever we're in Munich. This was the second time everything went wrong. The bad review is due to their complete lack of organization, poor service, the fact that the ordered food wasn't served and was explained incorrectly. The noise level in the restaurant was also abysmal. It's a shame for us, but this was our last visit. I'm so disappointed!

Outstanding food! I have been her multiple times and they always have an English speaker to serve us. Off the beaten path in Marienplatz but worth it to stop in. Have the Dunkel!

We had a table for 24 people, booked for two hours. After only one hour and twenty minutes, the server came and wanted to collect the bill because the table was supposedly reserved again for 8 p.m. We weren't offered any alternative, even though the restaurant was half empty. Instead, we were practically ushered out – very rude and unprofessional. The atmosphere was understandably bad, even though we still had 40 minutes. Some guests had traveled all the way from Landshut only to be treated like this. In short: outrageous service, no flexibility, and zero interest in customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, absolutely not recommended!

We had dinner here with friends this evening. The food was very tasty. Unfortunately, the main course was more like an appetizer. We wanted to have another drink, but had to leave the table because we weren't informed beforehand that it had already been reserved and given to someone else.

The food is highly recommended, but the service is very rude and abrupt, and they made us feel very uncomfortable. If I could, I wouldn't give it any stars for service.

Came by to try their beer, were reluctantly shown a table to sit at, then no menu came in 10 minutes, no person came to take order or suggest ordering anything, solid 0 for service is exaggerated, want to put negative. Meanwhile other guests, who arrived later, were given a menu in one minute. When tried to call for a waiter who was nearby, no reaction followed. Complete disappointment. Not recommended, taking into account 3 Augustiner beer houses located nearby!

We received a very warm welcome; the host even spoke to us in French. The waiter was very efficient. They took our orders quickly, and the service was also very fast. Regarding the food: the sausages were good, but the portion wasn't very generous, especially considering the price. Furthermore, the chicken wasn't grilled. The price is excessive for this type of dish. The dessert was good but not worth the price. It's a shame; it spoils all the positive aspects.

When we wanted another drink, we were told we had to clear the table in 10 minutes. We hadn't been informed of this beforehand. Sorry, but this is like a tourist trap, which we certainly didn't expect in Munich.

They have the best pork knuckle. The cheese spaetzle are really good too. The atmosphere in the city center is great – right next to the Frauenkirche. Beautifully decorated inside.

We didn't have any food and just wanted a drink. Overall, the experience was disastrous because they didn't want us as guests. We just wanted a beer or two after a shopping trip. The waitresses were extremely unfriendly. That's not a good sign for Munich tourism. Typical grumpy people... We're from Munich and are ashamed of this place :(

Disastrous service - a real shame. We used to love going here with my parents, so I was delighted when we spontaneously walked in on a Saturday evening. We were greeted by an extremely unfriendly table manager who seated us in a corner - so far so good. After sitting there for 15 minutes with no waiter in sight, I walked through the restaurant and got a menu. Back at our seats, the table manager walked past us, and when I spoke to him, he just raised his hand with a "Wait!" and walked past us. Of course, he didn't come back. After we still hadn't been served 10 minutes later, we left the restaurant. The bottom line is, unfortunately, terrible. We then walked 100 meters further to the Augustiner Klosterwirt - there, thankfully, hospitality and service still mean something.

Had a super fun night here. Excellent food and ambience.

We waited 20 minutes for the card and then left the store without getting it. The man at the counter was inattentive and arrogant.

We visited this well-known brewery during our trip to Munich, drawn by its great reputation and the many positive reviews describing it as a must-visit spot. Unfortunately, our experience turned out to be very disappointing. The beer arrived quite promptly, but we then waited for over an hour for our food. My husband eventually received his starter, while nothing was ever brought for me. What made the situation truly unpleasant, though, was the behavior of the maître in the green jacket. When I calmly asked if we could pay the bill so that we could leave after such a long wait, but he started shouting at me, even threatening to call the police (!!!) and refusing to speak with me — all of this in front of other astonished guests. Thankfully, the kind waiter who had taken our order stepped in right away, allowing us to pay for what we had and finally leave. It’s really unfortunate, because the place Is beautuful and with a strong reputation, but the lack of professionalism and the unacceptable attitude we encountered completely ruined the experience. I sincerely hope the management takes these issues seriously, as a renowned establishment like this should hold itself to much higher standards.

I've rarely experienced such poor and unfriendly service. Apparently, we didn't generate enough revenue for the waiter, and so we were ignored or treated unfriendly. As a guest in Munich, I would spend my money elsewhere.

We came here to try the famous Andechs beer. Unfortunately, this is the story of what we experienced: We entered without waiting in line at 12:45, and after 10 minutes the waiter came to take our order. After a 15-minute wait, the drinks arrived (a beer and a Coke). Around 1:20 PM, I ordered a second beer, but the food hadn't arrived yet. After 10 minutes, the second beer arrived. At 2:10 PM, still without having eaten anything and seeing that the other tables except ours were being served, we decided to leave. Unable to find our waiter, we went to the table manager, who, when we asked to pay the bill, told us to sit down and wait "because we should have known that on Saturdays the restaurant is full and that he didn't want to talk to us, otherwise he would call the police." Luckily, after another 5 minutes, the waiter arrived and charged us, apologizing for what had happened. PS: The two 0.5L beers were always much smaller than expected (see photo). Next time, we'll go somewhere else.

It is one of the best restaurants in Europe. The service is of the highest quality and the food is simply delicious and special. The staff working in the restaurant is attentive to details, always asking if everything is okay and if you need anything else. Such services are rare. Congratulations and I will definitely return to this superb place!

Nice ambiance, more chic than rustic and down-to-earth, but not overly pretentious. The service is friendly and acceptable, mistakes happen everywhere. But if we're being completely honest: The Andechser am Dom has such a good reputation that it's especially painful when they deliver so little. I mean that literally, because the portions are really small, especially for a Bavarian restaurant. The best value for money was the children's portion of dumplings with sauce. While it tasted good, it wasn't outstanding.

The place is nice, but my family and I felt unwell after a meal.

The Andechser am Dom is one of the most popular and most visited restaurants in Munich's city center. Unfortunately, the service here leaves a lot to be desired. We sat down around 7:40 p.m. After the waiter loudly announced that he had no more tables available and then realized that a table had just become available, he made us wait a full 30 (!!!) minutes for the menu. Finally, we were allowed to order three beers, of which only one was brought. "The other two will be here soon," we were told. "Right away" took another 20 minutes. Then finally, the remaining two arrived, with the "apology" that his tray had been knocked over. Sorry?!? Yeah, maybe, but surely not almost an hour for three beers?! And then to taunt me, a guest, after I even dared to mention this time span, defies description and contradicts all guest service. While we understand that the restaurant industry is currently struggling to find staff, and tourism is sure to bring in droves of guests to the restaurant, guests don't want to hear such "excuses." But here, they're simply relying on the special location and the celebrity guests. It'll be enough for tourists. Thanks - not for us anymore. Edit: 3 years later, exactly the same "service." Plus, in October, no patio heaters or blankets outside. There wouldn't be any room inside. Upon request, and after ordering, there was room. But a change wasn't possible because otherwise the waiter would go to an empty table, creating confusion (???). It's unbelievable how incompetent these people are.

I'd like to share my experience of being discriminated against by having an employee arbitrarily add 20% to my bill without even asking about the service fee in advance, and then having to print out the bill after paying with my card.

**Please note** A must-read review for travelers.** Honestly, the food is delicious, but I strongly recommend against it. There are plenty of other delicious restaurants. Is this the only place with good beer and food? Go to Schneiderbräuhaus or Augustiner right next door. (This is not an advertisement.) I was charged a 20% tip without even being able to choose. When I asked why it was automatically charged, the staff threw money at me. They didn't even give me the option to choose a tip, and the staff chose whatever they wanted. Be careful. The manager said they refunded my money, so there was no need to argue anymore. I felt it was clearly racially discriminatory, and I left without receiving a proper apology. (This is the first time I've felt this way about racism in my countless travels.) Don't feel this way, everyone! Why should I feel this way after paying? If you still go, make sure to check your receipt!!! Honestly, the food is good. But I strongly do not recommend this place. There are plenty of other restaurants with delicious food. Is this the only place with good beer and food? Of course not. They automatically added a 20% tip without giving me any option to choose. When I asked why it was charged automatically, they threw the money back to me. I wasn’t given the right to decide the tip — the staff simply added it however they wanted. The manager said there was nothing more to discuss. I personally felt racially discriminated against and left without receiving a proper apology. Please don’t let yourself go through the same unpleasant experience. Why should anyone feel this way after spending money? If you still decide to go, make sure to check your receipt carefull

If you're a tourist, never visit here. They force tips. They're robbing tourists. Doesn't the owner of this place care about Google reviews? They need to educate the managers and waiters, please. Everyone knows that customers can choose a percentage to tip when paying. But this place forces waiters to choose the amount they want and then pay it.

The hairy waiter applied a 20% tip without even asking for my consent. I asked to see the bill in advance, but he simply took my payment and tried to brush it off. When I complained, he only made excuses. If you're serving this hairy waiter, check your receipt before paying. The beer is delicious, but this place desperately needs staff training.

Central restaurant. Our starter plate was okay but nothing special. The Camembert was unfortunately old and unsightly.

A truly wonderful restaurant. We were there with several people. It was a wonderful evening. The food was very good, as was the service. We felt very well looked after and were excellently entertained.

Nice atmosphere with life music,but overcrowded. Very helpful and nice service. This is my second time here and from my evening dinner I was a little disappointed. Soup was delicious, but not warm. Meet in goulash was not good,too old or not well cooked,I couldn’t eat it ,not even one bite. I was expecting more from this restaurant.

Excellent traditional Bavarian restaurant in the heart of Munich, near the Frauenkirche Cathedral and just steps from Marienplatz. Enjoy excellently prepared traditional Bavarian dishes and excellent beer. Service is fast, courteous, and efficient, with staff dressed in Bavarian costume.

I always enjoyed going there; the food is delicious and it's cozy, the servers were always nice. I've always recommended the Andechser to others and even directed all my work to eat there together, but from now on I'll be giving it a wide berth. Two of us went there without a reservation (it was moderately busy in the afternoon). We stood at the front by the sign where we were supposed to wait. I walked over two steps because the head waiter/manager (I think his name was Sepp?, a shorter, somewhat older gentleman with short hair) was standing a bit further inside and looking the other way. I asked him if there were any free seats and was immediately pushed back without a hello or anything else. He practically ran into me while saying, "You'll wait outside." As I said, it wasn't full, and I didn't push my way in. We then waited by the sign in front of completely free tables with no reservation signs. We were first in line, and other people who came after us were seated there; also without reservations. After we had stood around for a few minutes, where we were completely ignored by the first guy, another man (some kind of manager, I think?) in a suit sat us down at one of the still empty tables. When we wanted to sit down, the first guy came back and literally shouted at us, it felt like he was pulling the chairs out from under us, saying that there was no free choice of seats and we had to wait until he said so. I told him that we had been seated, whereupon he interrupted me, saying that he was the only one there who was seating us and no one else had any say and that we should get up. I then said, "It doesn't matter, it's fine, we'll just go somewhere else," and he replied, "Yeah, exactly, then we'll go somewhere else." I'm honestly shocked because I would never have expected this kind of behavior from the other guy. Not only the way he treated the guests but also the way he treated the staff was really bad. Putting his colleagues down in front of the guests, saying they had nothing to say; extremely unprofessional. A real shame because I really liked this restaurant.

They serve a different menu for foreigners. And the food we get looks like a dog food! Tried other Bavarian restaurants and this one is the worst! Plus they included 10 euros tip to the machine without us knowing. Such a scam!

This is definitely a tourist trap! I don't recommend this place to tourists. I was shocked when I received the bill. I found out that I was overcharged with a 19% service charge. The restaurant didn't indicate that there was such a service charge at all. I don't know if it's just for tourists. I felt ripped off!

For me, this is the best Bavarian restaurant in the city center. Don't be put off by the tourist-friendly location! Extremely good food (great Wiener Schnitzel, fantastic Kaiserschmarrn). Friendly staff; the chef is often there and personally ensures everything is just right. Beautiful terrace, and the interior is almost even nicer (especially the first floor).

The spot was amazing and full of people! Now the only thing that drags this rating down from 5 to 4 is that The food wasnt really any good. The Sausage plate was small and it was 3 different sausages. I could make all 3 of them at home if I wanted to. Also the paste next to it was boring and that was the hole plate. Now, I dont know if the other foods are good, but the sausage plate was dissapointing.

Shameful service. Great beer good food but let down by waiter. Didn't pay attention, & didn't find price of a glass. Then bill came & demanded a tip of 5,10 or 15% That is downright rude. A tip is for above average service, I should have knocked 10% off; instead I forced the waiter to accept flat dining charge

The Andechser is, of course, beautifully located next to the Frauenkirche in the heart of Munich. Unfortunately, the food was subpar on our last visit. For example, the duck was served lukewarm in a gelatinous sauce and definitely not worth €36 (!). The wine list is quite well-chosen, but completely overpriced. But then, it's a beer bar... where a half-liter of Hell costs €5.60. Oh well...

DO AVOID. They forced us to tip. It was our third day in Germany, and it was absolutely the worst experience of our trip. The staff said the service charge wasn't included in the price, and 10% is "normal." We refused to tip an extra 10%, but they just wouldn't let it go. Such a shame. The food was just average; there are way better places around for the same or even less money. We were forced to tip. They even asked the Japanese customer sitting behind us for a 10% tip. I recommend not going there.
