This review is from 3 years ago at the time I wrote this (reason -made a new google review focused account): So the staff was funny, they joked around and was honestly the best thing here. The spot was amazing and full of people! Now the only thing that drags this rating down from 5 to 4 is that The food wasnt really any good. The Sausage plate was small and it was 3 different sausages. I could make all 3 of them at home if I wanted to. Also the paste next to it was boring and that was the hole plate. Now, I dont know if the other foods are good, but the sausage plate was dissapointing.

Shameful service. Great beer good food but let down by waiter. Didn't pay attention, & didn't find price of a glass. Then bill came & demanded a tip of 5,10 or 15% That is downright rude. A tip is for above average service, I should have knocked 10% off; instead I forced the waiter to accept flat dining charge

The Andechser is, of course, beautifully located next to the Frauenkirche in the heart of Munich. Unfortunately, the food was subpar on our last visit. For example, the duck was served lukewarm in a gelatinous sauce and definitely not worth €36 (!). The wine list is quite well-chosen, but completely overpriced. But then, it's a beer bar... where a half-liter of Hell costs €5.60. Oh well...

DO AVOID. They forced us to tip. It was our third day in Germany, and it was absolutely the worst experience of our trip. The staff said the service charge wasn't included in the price, and 10% is "normal." We refused to tip an extra 10%, but they just wouldn't let it go. Such a shame. The food was just average; there are way better places around for the same or even less money. We were forced to tip. They even asked the Japanese customer sitting behind us for a 10% tip. I recommend not going there.

Great team, best beer, delicious food

The ambiance is very nice and cozy. Unfortunately, our server was very inattentive and made us feel like we were being kept waiting extra. The bill was automatically rounded up.

A very nice, traditionally decorated restaurant in downtown Munich. Fast, friendly service from the waiters. About the food: The schnitzel and potato salad were excellent—as you'd expect. 👌 Unfortunately, the Wagyu beef tartare wasn't quite as praiseworthy! The flavor of the meat was drowned out by the strong flavor of the gherkin, making it almost unnoticeable. Visually, it was also barely recognizable, and with the onions and gherkins, it tasted more like minced meat than tartare. Therefore, at €24, it was definitely overpriced!

We had dinner at Andechser am Dom a couple nights ago. The restaurant is located in a touristy area of Munich, so one may not have very high expectations from the service. But even with low expectations, we had a very bad experience. Our first server was extremely rude. We had a couple questions about the menu and he seemed to want to get back to his own agenda! While we were having what looked like a normal conversation at a restaurant, he left angrily. (I wonder if there was some racist undertone in that behaviour.) He never came back and sent his colleague to serve us. He was much better. We managed to finish our meals. But the food was also at best mediocre. We had much better food slightly outside the very touristy area of Munich. When time came to pay, the server brought the machine but it didn't seem to work, though it was not clear what the problem was. We used our card everywhere else that day. He asked for cash, and we luckily had just enough to pay the bill. We were not given a receipt, which was also unusual. We spent three days in Munich and this was certainly our worst restaurant experience. You can surely find better places to eat, even in that touristy part of town.

Lovely restaurant with traditional food. Good service, super quickly and nice presentation of the food. The only thing that wasn’t okay was the welcome to the restaurant by the service (downstairs) ,we ate upstairs and was perfect , but the first impression of service was bittersweet and we hesitated whether to leave or not.

Due to the heavy rain, we took the wrong entrance, but in retrospect, we were very glad we did. A very tasteful restaurant with friendly staff. The food was fantastic.

After a good previous experience, the quality of the food was a huge disappointment. The ribeye steak had a strange smell, a quarter of the meat was soggy and oily. A few hours later, food poisoning was confirmed, which could only have been caused by this. The schnitzel had a smell and texture like bread with a crust, some parts were burnt. The quality of the fries was poor, tasteless. The beers were delicious, the service was okay, but we will not go back again because of the quality of the food.

Absolute gem in the heart of Munich - with arguably the most delicious burger in all of mankind.

Deserved five stars in all areas: the typically rustic Bavarian food was served very quickly and tasted great. The Waygu burger is highly recommended. The service was also exceptionally good.

I was at this restaurant with four friends and my 11-month-old baby. Everything was fine until an elderly lady named Shirley asked me to cover my child and breasts while breastfeeding. She said, "In Germany, that's not normal" and "we belong to a different culture, and that's not allowed." She also said that if we didn't comply, we would have to leave the restaurant—we were essentially thrown out for breastfeeding! She sent me to breastfeed near the restroom in over 35°C (95°F), which is degrading and disrespectful. Breastfeeding is legal and perfectly normal. Isolating or throwing out a mother and her child for this is shameful and discriminatory. Her colleagues (our server) repeatedly tried to explain to her, "That's normal!", but to no avail. I came to this restaurant with four friends and my 11-month-old baby. What happened was shameful.

Wonderful, authentic cuisine, superbly served by Peter P., who made the evening unforgettable with his extremely courteous and personable manner. Probably the best roast pork ever, and my family's dishes were also a dream. Highly recommended, thank you very much, greetings from Salzburg!

In my opinion, it's purely touristy. Ordering, turning around, and receiving your food seems pre-cooked and therefore low-quality. I'm probably used to much better.

A typical restaurant with truly delicious traditional cuisine! Located next to the Frauenkirche, Munich Cathedral! It was crowded with tourists at lunchtime, but despite this, they welcomed us and found us a table to share with three very friendly yet discreet gentlemen! The waiters, dressed in traditional attire, were also welcoming and helpful! My husband, my children, and I had a truly wonderful time at the end of our vacation along the Romanische Strasse, Stuttgart, Bamberg, and Dachau!

Rude and arrogant service: a long wait for a high chair, an unfriendly refusal when we wanted to move to a vacant table on the terrace. The mother wasn't allowed to breastfeed her baby discreetly at the table and was instead directed to the hot upper floor. When we tried to say we were paying and leaving, the same employee said she didn't care – even though our server defended us, saying we hadn't done anything unusual. Unfriendly and disrespectful to families – never again.

I love Andechs beer and this was the 1st place we came to in Munich for this trip because we like it so much, but the service was below average today. Our waiter was unfriendly compared to other places in Munich and paid little attention to his tables (probably because none of us were ordering food). I felt pressured into tipping him at the end, when he really did nothing to deserve it. We were planning to come back for a meal later in the week but he put us off returning.

The food was barely okay. They made us pay for the extras, making us think they were in the dishes. This is a tourist trap to avoid.

That was the worst schnitzel I've ever eaten in my life. We couldn't finish it and had to order fries instead. They didn't even ask why we didn't eat it. I can't recommend it. Besides, it's way too expensive for such poor food.

This is hands-down my favorite place in all of Munich to eat. This is where you go to get really extra extraordinary Bavarian food. If I would recommend one place to go if you have one day in your whole life in Munich, this would be the place.

Dear Andechs owner, it wasn't quite as you described. As soon as we entered your lovely restaurant, which we know very well from Andechs, we were given a somewhat unfriendly welcome by stressed-out staff. Unfortunately, my sister has limited mobility, and we only wanted to eat inside. Since there were no small tables available, we asked to be seated at another one, explaining that we would be gone in an hour, as the large table we were supposed to sit at was free and hadn't been reserved until later, around 3:00 PM. WE MADE RESERVATIONS EARLY ENOUGH, SO WE'RE LEFT WITH A BIT OF AN AFTERTASTE. WHAT A PITY, WALTER EISENMANN, DENZLINGEN.

Ordered chicken breast, tasted divine. Delicate as a church choir, boldly seasoned like a priest after three beers. Beer flows, spirits rise. A reunion is a must.

We were there in May, ordered a roast pork knuckle, and got a boneless pork knuckle. I made the mistake of not returning it; I was hungry.

Unfortunately, I couldn't have a beer at Andechs am Dom today because I wasn't served. Unfortunately, I was on the first floor, where five waiters were bored and one was working. The waiters were philosophizing about how monotonous their work is. Why don't they find another job? The day before, I was in the outdoor area, where I received very good service.

Everything was great, but the service was unfriendly and only interested in making a profit. If that's not met... "It's always these tourists."

Despite the fact that it is located in the center, it is inexpensive and very tasty. Beer 4.80. They serve quickly, although almost full. We really enjoyed the food. And here is the most delicious potato salad that we have eaten.

Delicious food next to the Cathedral.

This was our last meal on our trip through Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, and was definitely one of our favorites. The food was great, the service was excellent, and the ambiance of the upstairs part of the restaurant felt fancy. I had the best beer of our trip here, and they served fantastic pretzels.

I'm used to Munich prices. But your bread and butter platter is really a tourist trap.

Today we thought we'd go in, it looks very inviting from the outside. The waiter greeted us very warmly and showed us to our table. The waiter who served the table was more than unfriendly and rude. For example, do you want something to eat here or just a drink? We said eat please, but not much as we've already had coffee and cake and then he said, why do you want to eat here and why not somewhere else? I really couldn't think of anything else. We ordered drinks first and then food and one person didn't order anything and he didn't like that and we said he would try our food and then he took his cutlery away and said he didn't need to eat. The food then arrived and I was so disappointed with the food, it wasn't fresh and you could really tell from the mashed potatoes that it wasn't homemade. The goulash soup was too tomato-heavy and not homemade. It was all very standard. I must honestly say the price isn't justified. At the restaurant, we wanted to give a €2.50 tip, despite his rudeness, and the unfriendly waiter said that if it was 10% or 20% less, it wouldn't do anything. What was this behavior about? Is this intentional by the restaurant or by Andechser? There were other people sitting next to us, and then he said that this table was normally for eight people, but that it wouldn't fit that many people. We felt more than discriminated against by this person. Simply cheeky and beyond rude.

Thieves, don't go there. An elderly waiter gave us a very rude welcome and spoke rudely from the moment we arrived. When it came time to pay, he took our credit card without giving us the payment details, even though we had asked for them. We noticed that he had given himself a 10% tip, even though his behavior had been disastrous. So we pointed this out to him, and he lied to us, saying there was no tip. Following this lie, we decided to check the amount paid against the prices on the menu. Once again, he charged more for beers than the ones we had ordered. Outrageous... In addition to being rude, this waiter is a thief!

To Avoid Tourist Trap An elderly waiter gave us a very poor welcome and practically shouted at us when we ordered. But the worst was waiting for us when we paid: - No bill, so it was impossible for us to check the prices. - He then handed us his EFT with a €2.50 tip without asking our opinion and trying to take our credit card from our hands, assuring us that he hadn't left a tip. LIAR. - We refused to pay this price, which annoyed him, and he began to speak to us in only German (a language we obviously don't understand). - After calculating, we showed him that he was lying (and even then, the beer he brought didn't match what we ordered). So, he finally gave in, and we paid the correct price and were sent off with a sardonic thank you.

They serve delicious beer from the Andechs Monastery Brewery. The menu features Bavarian delicacies. I ordered the half boned duck. There are cheaper options, but I was very happy with my choice. I really enjoyed the duck and the side dishes.

It tasted delicious, especially the dumplings, which were a hit. A friend was able to eat this dish despite having celiac disease.

Waiter was very rude when I asked to charge my devices. Very bad attitude. Brought my niece a different drink than what she asked for because they realized they don’t have it.

The food tastes very good. The portions could be a bit larger. The burger is medium-rare. It was very tasty, but maybe not everyone likes it that way. The staff could be a bit friendlier. Great location near the Frauenkirche. The Women's European Championship was broadcast on the ground floor, but unfortunately not on the upper floor.

Simply AMAZING! I highly recommend the wagyu burger. Be sure to try their home-brewed beer, too.

If you're looking for something traditional and rustic, this is the place for you. While the service may not be the most refined or friendly, the well-made, hearty home-style cooking is just what you're looking for. Definitely worth a try for any visitor to Munich!

There were three of us there. Everyone enjoyed their food. The service was excellent; it just took a little longer to pay. We had a starter (tartar) and a main course (wagyu burger)! We'll be back and will recommend it to others.

Friendly staff, good food, and you don't get the impression that you've landed in a tourist trap, although the location would certainly be perfect for that. I can't comment on the price since we were invited. The service, however, is super fast, and you don't have to wait long for drinks. I'd be happy to go back.

The food was predictably expensive, unfortunately the portions were small and a bit too salty. It was still good. What bothered me more was the unfriendly waiter and the boss, who always belittled his staff in front of the guests. No. The staff wasn't particularly friendly, and the food was more or less shoved in our faces. The real kicker, however, came when it came to paying. I gave the waiter 100 euros, and he asked me in all seriousness how much I wanted back. Unbelievable!!! That was beyond cheeky. I then demanded 20 euros back. The waiter's comment: "So 2.20 euros for us." When I confirmed this, he gave me the money, got furious, and walked away in a huff. In my opinion, he didn't even deserve the 2.20 euros. I won't go back to this restaurant, and I won't recommend it to anyone.

Too touristy a spot. And I discovered I don't like potato dumplings as it's too dense and taste more like some rice ball than potato.

The epicenter of Bavarian beer culture!

Well, like all traditional breweries, the dishes are the same, generally good, a bit pricey, as Munich is already expensive. Nothing to write home about, just average. Good food and good service.

If you want to eat well, typical Bavarian cuisine, this is the right place. Prices are a bit high but the food is quality and it is right in the historic center. Friendly staff, dressed in typical Bavarian costumes. Recommended

We were very satisfied. This restaurant was recommended to us by our tour guide, with whom we took a short tour of Munich. First of all, the service was very friendly and the atmosphere was Bavarian. The food was good. The price/performance ratio was perfectly reasonable, and it's right next to the Frauenkirche. Definitely recommended for anyone who likes Bavarian cuisine.

I went two times for dinner, and both of them the food was of amazing quality, asked for the schnitzel the first time and the juicy pork the second one. Both of them 10/10. The beer was also really good. However I had mixed feelings with the services, it highly depensa on the waiter. The first one was great, talkative, giving recommendations etc. The second one, really rude, messed up the bill and was angry with himself but outsourcing it us, very unprofessional. Anyway, I think with that exemption, the overall experience is great. The food was fastly served, and good atmosphere. Price were also reasonable for the area where is located.

Poor price-quality ratio and you want to rip off the service by giving at least a 10% tip

I came by this restaurant on a review about Andechs beer; wanting to try it out I stopped in with my family of 5. I can’t comment on the food, because the server was out of the gate one of the unfriendliest I have come across, so we made our visit as short as possible. If you haven’t seen Princess Bride, this won’t make sense, but if you have, Wallace Shawn who plays Vizzini is our waiters look alike except for glasses. I can’t imagine how this guy is a waiter/ Kellner/ server as he is amazingly unfriendly. Not just to us either, we observed his interactions with other guests and if they didn’t speak Deutsch he decided he didn’t like them before ever meeting them. Maybe that would be fine in some remote area of Germany but it is a tourist area ironically. So as I said, we ordered a beer, an appetizer and left as quick as we could.

Great food but service fee depends whether you are satisfied

The service was terrible! We just wanted a drink – we were treated like second-class citizens! Extremely rude. The food looked delicious, but since the waiter and the guy who gave us a table were very unfriendly, we went somewhere else to eat. The dark wheat beer was still delicious.

I've been going here for 20 years, always for the steak tartare. On fresh, dark, toasted bread. A generous portion, seasoned with spices. We love it. In all these years, the quality has only been below our usual level once. Sitting outside is comfortable, you can easily watch the scenery and enjoy the food. Inside upstairs, it's nice and quiet, and the restrooms are clean. A bit on the expensive side, but perfectly reasonable.

Delicious and authentic, gladly again

The beer from Andechs Monastery is truly delicious, which prompted me to visit the local pub during a weekend trip to Munich. And I was not disappointed by either the beer or the food, which was also very delicious. BUT: the service was absolutely ZERO!!! A table was reserved in advance, and it was immediately made available to us outside. Upon seating, the menu was handed to us immediately, but without asking about the first drinks. Well, I know it differently, but okay. After about 10 minutes of nothing happening, we flagged down the friendly lady who showed us to our table. I wasn't really sure what her role was that evening, but she definitely took our order. The first beer arrived quickly, as did the appetizer. The main course arrived right after the meal, and another beer was ordered. However, this had to be ordered again AFTER the meal when the plates were being cleared, because it simply wasn't brought out during the meal. Only upon request was the menu for dessert handed over again, which I'm also used to, where people actively ask for dessert or at least a coffee or something similar after the main course. Out of love for my companion, we didn't go straight after that, but instead treated ourselves to dessert and idly ordered a few more beers, which we consumed. Suddenly, the waiter, for the first time that evening, appeared next to us, uninvited and overly friendly, because he was about to finish work and was handing the table over to his colleague, but he wanted to settle the bill. I only paid for what was consumed, which, without a tip, made the waiter a little suspicious. We then exchanged a few frank words and then the waiter gave me another beer to round off an evening that wasn't good. It's a real shame that people can treat their guests like that, since nobody cares whether I, from North Rhine-Westphalia, stop there again or whether the famous sack of rice falls over on the Asian continent. The Andechser am Dom will definitely not see me again!

wenn wir in München sind zieht es mich immer wieder in dieses Lokal. Auch wenn ich den alten Andechser lieber mochte ist es hier nett. Trotz Touristentrubel und dem entsprechenden Druck halte ich das Andechser für eine perfekt gemanagte Gastronomie. Die Speisen kommen in gleichbleibender Qualität, genauso wie das hervorragende Andechser Bier, gut gekühlt und ordentlich gezapft in den Gläsern landet. Diesmal hatten wir die Weißwurst, die in dieser Qualität nicht überall zu haben sind und mit dem Preis von 3,90€ pro Wurst auch fair kalkuliert sind. Danach ein perfektes Rindertartar was bei einem Preis von 22,00€ und der Portionsgröße absolut in Ordnung geht. Die Bierpreise sind inzwischen für Münchner Verhältnisse m.A. Zu hoch gelandet, aber man ist halt mittendrin anstatt nur dabei……! Das Personal weitestgehend freundlich, flott und engagiert …. ! Wir kommen auf alle Fälle wieder!

The food was good, but the price was a bit questionable. The atmosphere itself was actually nice, but there are a lot of smokers there without restrictions. The service was okay. I don't know if we were just unlucky or if all the waiters there are just greedy and looking for undeserved tips.
