We were only there for a beer. We hadn't made a reservation and the pub was already fully booked. The beer was good, and the staff was very friendly. A reservation is recommended.

They say “we have no table” if you ask a table in english..

Everything was amazing we asked Ai and proposed the place and it was exactly what it said…. The portion of the Wiener schnitzel was enormous 😂the atmosphere amazing. If you want to feel like local visit this place!!!

I've known this inn for a long time, and for a long time it was a place I could always go to when in doubt about food or a drink, and I was rarely disappointed, especially since the (truly quaint) dining room and the outdoor area in front (despite the traffic) are appealing. In my opinion, this hasn't been the case for a few years now. The roast pork on my last visit in August 2025 was very dry, and other dishes have been hit or miss in terms of quality over the past few years, too. In my opinion, the prices often no longer match the quality. A year ago, during the pork knuckle special of February 2024, I ordered a knuckle with a reservation. Absolutely dry, hard, and small. Personally, I wouldn't have served it out of respect for the customer. The most consistent dish, in my opinion, was the Tyrolean roast. Annoyingly, there are also two waitresses who have been there for a while. Often quite unwelcoming and unwelcoming, rude, and unwilling to accept criticism, especially a lady with long dark hair and glasses (I once politely pointed out what I considered an excessive price for a small soda or an incorrectly poured drink). Personally, I find this tone and demeanor towards guests completely unacceptable. The younger temporary or seasonal workers (?) often seem to be the exception, making the behavior described above even more noticeable, and not just to me. Why am I writing this? Because, in addition to the points mentioned above, the feeling of well-being has suffered in recent years. Waiting times for food have also been too long. After many years, unfortunately, this is no longer an Altes Bräuhaus for me. I expressly declare: WHAT A PITY.

Where should I begin!? The name says it all. An old, quaint inn with old, rustic tables... Very embarrassing! The first impression is quite nice. Then disaster struck. We were first noticed by a slim, elderly lady with, let's call it, long black hair... She greeted us with a half-hearted hello! That's putting it nicely. We were allowed to choose a table. She slammed the menu down on our table and immediately left... After 10 minutes, she came back, stinking terribly of cigarettes. She took our order and left our table without a word, no thanks, nothing. Obviously, she wasn't in the mood for us. We weren't the only ones who felt that way, according to our neighboring table. After about 40 minutes, we asked for our food. She replied snippily, "It'll be here soon... there are other guests here!" I was actually ready to get up and leave!!! Then came the real bombshell!!! My wife's roast pork was dry and tough. When we pointed this out to the woman in question, she responded, extremely annoyed and even angrily, "It was fine for the other 40 people before us." She took the plate and asked if she wanted another one. My wife said no. We then paid immediately and left the restaurant in a huff. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Conclusion: The manager can only be advised! Keep an eye on his staff. This woman completely ruined our stay at her restaurant from start to finish. And all we can say to this woman in question is: It's obvious that you've been in this profession for too long. You're fed up with this job, and you can feel it from head to toe... Find a job where you don't work with people. You've completely lost your humanistic approach... That would help everyone in this restaurant!!!

An old Bavarian inn, just what you'd want it to be. The beer and food are excellent, and there are plenty of locals here. Unfortunately, there were also tour groups there, which were a bit loud. Nevertheless, we got our food very quickly. The waitress was very impressive, as she kept a steady overview despite the large number of guests.

Unfortunately, it wasn't that great. I ordered black tea, but they gave me green tea 😕 The plum dumplings were dry, and the scoop of vanilla ice cream was crystallized. I also found the cappuccino in a small coffee cup a little odd. It's a shame. There's still a lot of room for improvement here.

We were there on a whim that evening and got a spot in the "Schwemm" (swimming pool). The atmosphere was very friendly and accommodating. The food: roast suckling pig was excellent. We'd go back anytime!

It was a Bavarian experience with band,players in lederhosen, beer and pretzels. Brilliant way to spend an hour or so. Eva - lady guide, in costume was knowledgeable and great fun. Highly recommended.

This was the first and last time I'll come here. A brunette woman with long hair was unfortunately very unfriendly. Even though we had a table reservation and there were plenty of free tables, we were moved several times and finally seated at a table right by the door. Only then was the "reserved" sign brought out. I usually never leave without leaving a tip, but this time it really wasn't deserved. It's a shame. The location is beautiful, but staff like that makes you lose interest in coming back. Guests should be greeted with a smile, not as if they were a nuisance.

Today was our second time here. The first time, the food was excellent. Today, it was a disaster! After waiting over an hour and asking several times, the food finally arrived. The roast pork was just the end pieces, and the pork was overcooked. We had the feeling someone had just thrown something together without enthusiasm. It's a shame, really. The waitress was obviously very embarrassed.

What a fantastic place. The staff goes above and beyond for you and remains incredibly friendly. The food was incredibly delicious and quick, and the price was right. Traditional lederhosen.

This is a truly traditional restaurant, where you'll find plenty of locals alongside tourists, which is usually a good sign. This was no exception. We had one of the best roast pork of our lives: tender, flavorful meat, crispy pork rind, delicious beer sauce, and an incredibly good potato dumpling. The service is prompt, extremely cheerful, and friendly. Highly recommended for a successful trip to Passau.

A typical Bavarian brewery with seating on Römerplatz, next to the suspension bridge over the Danube, and a view of the fortress. Despite the busy schedule, the staff was very friendly. The beer and snacks were delicious.

The Altes Bräuhaus in Passau is exactly the type of Bavarian inn that deserves to remain unchanged. The interior with its massive long wooden tables and Gothic vaults has an authentic feel and reliably evokes tradition! The kitchen offers honest Bavarian specialties - from schnitzels, dumplings to pork knuckle to thick soups, and everything goes perfectly with the local helles beer. The staff wear traditional costumes, carry beer in a wire stretcher and never show that they are disturbed by a hundred guests. Even the sweeter beer here tastes like part of the cultural heritage and the atmosphere of the old bräuhaus remains intact - in my opinion, a clear choice for anyone who loves historical spaces, hearty portions and the feeling that time passes more slowly here.

Passau is always worth a visit.

Wir waren zu viert im Restaurant und wurden sehr freundlich empfangen. Der Service war durchweg aufmerksam und herzlich. Leider gab es eine kleine Panne bei der Bestellung: Von vier Gerichten kamen zunächst nur zwei, und erst danach wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass das Gulasch leider aus war. Wir haben daraufhin etwas anderes bestellt, was aber ebenfalls sehr gut geschmeckt hat. Besonders positiv hervorheben möchte ich die Entschuldigung – ich nehme an, es war die Chefin selbst – und die schöne Geste, uns allen eine Dessertvariation zu offerieren. Das hat den kleinen Fauxpas wieder wettgemacht. Das Essen war insgesamt sehr schmackhaft und der freundliche Service hat für eine angenehme Atmosphäre gesorgt. Ich würde das Restaurant auf jeden Fall wieder besuchen.

We waited very long (like 30mins) to be asked what we wanna eat, ( we asked multiple times to order..) then we were told that half of the menu wasn't available. Food was alright but took long, everyone was friendly

I gave it a 4 because I felt my schnitzel was a little burnt and too salty for my taste, but the rest of the dishes we ordered were all very good. They have a very pleasant terrace, and the staff was always helpful. I think the prices were very good compared to other traditional German food places.

The beer (most importantly) and the food are good, but they hate tourists, so if you’re not a native of Passau (but at least Bavarian), it’s better not to go there.

I'd especially like to highlight the roast pork – it was simply divine! Succulent, tender, and perfectly seasoned, with a crispy crust. The service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the Alte Bräuhaus!

The bier and the food was delicious. Didn't see the sample bier flight until we finished dinner, will get that next time.

Delicious food and welcoming staff

Super friendly service and delicious food, what more could you want! We had the Tyrolean Gröstel and the Wiener Schnitzel, both of which were incredibly delicious and so filling that even our pubescent boys were full, and that's because they're quite something 😉. Definitely recommend it when visiting Passau, thank you for your hospitality!

Good beer house in the center, well located for both a beer and a meal. We had a schnitzel and 2 roast pork dishes (one with beer sauce and one with onions), 2 beers and 1 water, spending around €60 in total.

The food is good, the location is very nice, but publicly criticizing trainees is far more serious than any mistakes they might make.

We waited half an hour for our drinks. Other guests who arrived after us had their drinks before us. We were simply forgotten. The food was okay, but nothing more. Unfortunately, we encountered a very unfriendly waitress who was also quite overwhelmed. We probably won't be returning.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. Only those with immense patience can order food here. I've rarely had to wait so long for food. The taste isn't really my thing either; everything's full of caraway. A little caraway is okay, but here you order caraway with a dish, not a dish with caraway. The staff is friendly and attentive. But when it comes to timing, or rather, the wait time for a meal, there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Our family of six was looking for a "small" meal for lunch. So we ordered a few things from the "small appetite" section – the portions were definitely generous, and everything was delicious and truly home-style. Thanks also for the friendly service!

If you talk to the right waiter, everything is possible. The regulars at the table said we could sit with them, no problem at all, but the somewhat governess waitress (female) said we had to go. I said in short, if you're serious, that's the last time I come here. Her tall colleague, who noticed this, finally found us a seat in the shade. There's service and there's service. Guys, I don't sit directly in the sun when it's 35°.

We took a spontaneous break in the beer garden. Unfortunately, it's right on the street. The waitress saw us upon arrival and greeted us cautiously, but then it took a while, and she was also rather abrupt when taking our drinks (we just wanted something to drink).

To top it all off, the food we ordered tasted burnt (not visually noticeable). If you have a lot of patience and nerves, you can still enjoy the traditional pub atmosphere! Won't be back.

A very nice, traditional Bavarian restaurant. The cuisine is traditional Bavarian and very delicious. It's very well located in the heart of the historic old town. All in all, it's definitely worth recommending.

Very uncomfortable, food large portion

Bräuhaus? Very good! Friendly service, good food – thank God they renovated it! The atmosphere? Rustic, rustic, rustic. It feels like being in a mountain cabin, but with German beer! Only thing: the bathrooms have no door… but that’s okay, it’s part of the “charm”. In the end, you eat well, you feel at home – and that’s what matters.

We were in Passau on Saturday and stopped in for dinner. The restaurant has a very cozy, rustic atmosphere. The server was very friendly and prompt, and the food arrived quickly and tasted excellent. The prices were also absolutely reasonable. We really enjoyed it and can definitely recommend the restaurant.

Fast service, good personal, the food is amazing good. I like that it is well known by locals and tourists not so often. Is a good place to have lunch or a drink. Is it worth checking out the place. The schnitzel is very good. Thanks for the amazing time
