Schnitzel was very good and the portions were sufficient. I can't say anything about the other dishes. Staff was quite friendly

Terrible experience. The starter plates were still on the table and had only just finished when the main course was served. When we paid the bill of €92 and we gave €100 in cash, we did not get our change back without explicitly saying that they could keep it. When we went to ask for the change back, the manager thought this was very strange and rolled his eyes. If the service had been better we would certainly have tipped, but definitely not anymore in this way. We will never come here again.

Beautiful restaurant, fantastic cuisine, magnificent service and very correct prices for the quality of service. Delicious mustard and beef carpaccio soup... several options of salads, meats and fish.

Don't let small children use the toilet, hence 1/5 stars for the service

We hesitated to eat here because of the reviews, but once the food was served I didn't understand why the reviews were bad, the schnitzel with mushrooms including sauce for 14.50 is highly recommended! And not expensive, 1 salad for 2 people is enough, 1 comment the glass of wine is very large, actually enough for 2 glasses, that and the amount for the wine was the only disappointment, but it tasted great! 2 x schnitzel mushrooms with sauce, 1 colorful salad, 1 beer and 1 very large wine, 45.50

My husband and I were visiting here and initially had high hopes for this restaurant because we had already tried several restaurants in the area and were extremely satisfied. Unfortunately, the service wasn't courteous and the selection of food wasn't large either. The salad was very dry and had little to no taste and there were also grains of sand in it, which made it even less beneficial to eat. The fries were anything but crispy and salty. There was no salt or pepper at the table, and no sauces or dips were served. My husband's schnitzel was the only one that was okay. It's a shame, but we wouldn't visit this restaurant again and wouldn't recommend it to others.

Takes a long time until the main course is served. If you have specific wishes, it is better to eat somewhere else. I ordered a dish without onion, but nothing was done with it... Very disappointing that I was not able to eat half of my dish. Also not much choice in terms of desserts. I wouldn't recommend it.

It’s delicious, and the waiter’s service is super good. My German is not good, so I asked him to type and translate for me, and he also helped me. They also asked me if I knew English. If I couldn’t understand the German menu, I could still read the English menu. 😻😻😻

Where should I start? From the ambience to the food and the service, everything is absolutely perfect. We really enjoyed it, we were served very nicely, the atmosphere is absolutely harmonious (right down to the music) and super cozy, even the kitchen staff was extremely friendly. We would also give more stars and would love to come back.

Unfortunately it's no longer what it once was. October 2024 The old glory is an old restaurant with a view from the window of Monschau and the Rur that flows past it. Rustic but nice inside. The waiter was friendly, lit a candle and gave us the menus. The three of us ordered the house hit and were unfortunately very disappointed. My husband had the schnitzel with a very small bowl of mushrooms. My mom had the salmon with the noodles, which she really enjoyed. We found calling them Belgian fries an insult to the real Belgian fries, plus they were too salty. I had paid for everything and found out the next day that a Coke, a petrol and a Diet Coke had been added to the bill, which we hadn't drunk because we all drank beer. I don't think that's very nice, but I trust people still. We ordered espresso, which the waitress brought and blew out our candle, which felt like you can leave. Then we asked again for the menu, as we would like to have a schnapps after the food that was in our stomachs, but since there was nothing special on the menu, we asked if it would be possible to show us the drinks trolley, which the waitress responded to said my husband had feet to look at for himself. Even when she came back and took the map with her, she didn't ask if we had found anything else or wanted anything else from the beautiful drinks trolley. We ate a lot in Monschau and 5 years ago we were once in the old glory, but unfortunately they won't see us a third time.

Die alte Herrlichkeit ist ein altes Restaurant mit Blick am Fenster auf Monschau und der Rur, die daran vorbei fließt. Innen rustikal aber nett. Der Kellner war freundlich, machte eine Kerze an und gab uns die Speisekarten. Wir 3 Personen, bestellten den Renner des Hauses und waren leider darüber sehr enttäuscht. Mein Mann das Schnitzel mit einer sehr kleinen Schale Pilze. Meine Mama den Lachs mit den Nudeln, der ihr sehr gut geschmeckt hat. Belgische Pommes zu sagen, fanden wir eine Beleidigung den echten Belgischen Pommes, außerdem waren sie versalzen. Ich hatte alles bezahlt und am nächsten Tag festgestellt, das eine Cola , ein Sprit und ein Cola light mit dazu berechnet worden waren , die wir nicht getrunken hatten, da wir alle Bier tranken, das finde ich nicht sehr schön , aber ich vertraue den Menschen noch. Wir bestellten noch Espresso,die die Kellnerin brachte und unsere Kerze ausgeblasen hatte , so wie Ihr könnt dann gehen, sich anfühlte. Dann fragten wir nochmals nach der Karte, da wir gerne auf das Essen, welches uns im Magen rumging eine Schnaps trinken wollten, da es aber auf der Karte nichts besonderes gab, fragten wir ob es möglich wäre den Getränkewagen uns zu zeigen, worauff die Kellnerin meinte, mein Mann hätte ja Füße um selbst zu schauen. Auch als sie wiederkam und die Karte mitnahm , fragte sie nicht ob wir was noch gefunden haben oder noch was von dem schönen Getränkewagen haben wollten. Wir haben in Monschau viel gegessen und vor 5 Jahren waren wir schon einmal in der alten Herrlichkeit, aber ein drittes mal werden sie uns leider nicht mehr sehen.

We had dinner here twice. Get a seat on your first visit without a reservation. We had a reservation for the second visit. The service is friendly, attentive. The food is tasty (1 x schnitzel, 1 x fish). The prices are at tourist level.

We were there on schnitzel day. The schnitzels were ok. Unfortunately you don't have much sauce. The service wasn't good. We waited over 30 minutes for the bill. The staff was totally overwhelmed.

Very unfriendly, grumpy and annoyed staff, especially because we had a dog with us. We felt absolutely unwelcome and left the restaurant. And then found a much nicer location with dog-friendly staff.

Genießen mit Auge und Gaumen❣️ Das Ambiente passt zu Monschau und ist Wunderschön. Das Essen finde ich sehr gut. Wenn Monschau voll ist merkt man das Personal fehlt, aber die Qualität auf dem Teller ist Mega!

Wanted some vegetarian food. Unfortunately there wasn't any, just a salad. It would be schnitzel day. Well, we ordered drinks that didn't come, and the other guests didn't have any either. Then I ordered a schnitzel and my sister had to make do with a salad. Drinks came at some point. Food was so-so, similar to what we would get in a snack bar, nothing more. I think the waiter was fired. This is what it looked like. With the staff a restaurant falls or runs. I work in the industry myself and know what I'm talking about. It's a shame that vegetarian dishes should always be on the list, especially these days.

We had just arrived in Monschau and were hungry. This is how we came to the old glory. I also had a small dog with me. When I asked if the dog could have a little water, I was told that it wasn't possible because of the wooden floor. My schnitzel was some kind of compressed meat and didn't taste good at all. The Belgian fries were totally mushy. My conclusion: never again. It's a shame, you really have decorated the restaurant in a very nice, old-fashioned way and there are some real treasures there.

Der Kellner war freundlich, obwohl wir mehr getrunken hätten, wenn die Bedienung öfters nach uns geschaut hätte. Der Beilagensalat mit 6 € schon sehr teuer, war aber schmackhaft und frisch. Das sogen. Champignonschnitzel war sehr dünn, aber okay, an Champignons ist das Schnitzel allerdings vorbei geflogen, es waren maximal 1-2 kl. Pilze sehr dünn geschnitten. Die "Belgischen Fritten"waren sehr lapprig und überhaupt nicht knusprig, der Kellner bedauerte dies, tat das ab mit der Bemerkung, das könnte halt mal passieren. Unserer Bitte uns neue Fritten zu bringen, kam man nicht nach. Er kam dann nach 5 Minuten mit denselben Pommes zurück (kl. Schalefür2 Personen), inzwischen waren sie kalt, das wäre leider nicht möglich. Als Ausgleich bot man uns einen Espresso an. So sind wir um 60 € ärmer und reicher an Erfahrung schließlich noch woanders eingekehrt. Service ist anders.

Went there on a Monday (schnitzel day) because we had had good experiences at the "Alte Herrlichkeit" a few years ago and happened to be nearby. But we are disappointed. The mustard schnitzel / mushroom schnitzel were okay, but not upscale. Maybe the other dishes are still there; Today was a reduced menu, which is perfectly fine for Monday. The salad was super fresh, really, and beautifully presented. But for 3 adults 1 small bowl of Belgian fries? We had to reorder. Now fries are not an expensive material and also not 'cuisine extraordinare', so they could have been served a little more generously. And unfortunately the ambience is clearly showing its age, a little loving care is needed here. The young 'Gaston' didn't seem to have had any classical training either (yes, yes, I know, it's difficult these days)... remember: never lecture the guest if he is audacious - mon dieu! - to ask a question. It's okay to turn around and roll your eyes, but don't look down at the guest in front of everyone and smile indulgently and declaim "...that's why it's called mustard schnitzel!" Unfortunately, the person who was taught in this way was sitting with her back to me, so I couldn't see whether she took it with humor or gritted her teeth. I would have started to growl and bared my teeth... ;-)

We came here spontaneously and can only recommend the restaurant. The “Alte Herrlichkeit” schnitzel was a great fried schnitzel topped with fried ham and tomato slices and gratinated with a very tasty cheese. Served hot in a pan on a wooden board. Plus delicious thick Belgian fries. A poem! The price is reasonable for the quantity and quality! Gladly again!🙂

Eramos un grupo de 4 amigas. Nos indicaron q debíamos ir 7.30pm pues más tarde no nos darían de cenar. Al llegar pedimos q se nos asignara una mesa con vistas al río, pues había 2 ya vaciadas. Nos expresábamos en alemán pues una persona del grupo había vivido en alemania. Se lo planteamos a la camarera q nos dijo q no, y ante nuestra insistencia dijo q lo preguntaría. Al minuto volvió y nos dijo q no nos cambiaba. Pese a la inexplicable respuesta y por temor a no ser servidas en otro lugar, decidimos quedarnos y pedir. A las 8 llegaron 2 parejas q tras haber insistido, sí fueron sentadas en dichas mesas, pese a la hora q ya era y pese a que a nosotras se nos había negado. Ante ello, decidimos levantarnos y marcharnos ante lo cual no recibimos ninguna disculpa, lo cual aún empeora la calidad de la experiencia vivida.

Nice and beautiful restaurant with friendly service. I didn't think the house schnitzel was such a success (schnitzel overloaded with cheese, tomato and I believe ham), but that is of course personal.

Been here several times, the food (explicitly the old glory) is really exceptionally tasty. Ambience at the window is nice. Unfortunately, today we had a day with very few visitors so it was just closed. We were still served despite the staff having already left for the evening, which alone is very rare these days and is definitely worth 5 stars. We will definitely come back.

Great old interior, great house - you're perched above the Rur. Food very good for Monschau standards. Had a veal steak with asparagus and potatoes, perfect. Apparently there was a change of operator (it wasn't so good before).

We tried the apple strudel with ice cream and vanilla sauce. It is a bit expensive, 6,10€ but it was really tasty. The service was good and relatively fast.

It took a long time before we were helped (the terrace was otherwise empty; understandable in retrospect with such reviews). They were then not allowed to take a free chair so that the three of us could sit at a two-person table. Were barked at and then walked away. Please stay away from here and spend your money on better catering.

We were on vacation, despite the lack of staff at short notice, we always remained calm and friendly! Steak was cooked to perfection and the schnitzel “Alte Glory” was super delicious!

We received nice and friendly service!!! It wasn't crowded and we had a nice view of the Rur. The price is expensive (like everywhere) but the price performance ratio was ok 👍🏻. The toilets were clean 👍🏻. Overall, a nice stay in the restaurant (and Monschau).

The Carpaccio was reasonable, the rumb steak was sold out, cut alte herrlichkeit, came with fries, no salad. For dessert they only had apple strudel. Not worth repeating.

I don't understand the reviews here. The staff was super friendly, the restaurant has a nice old school vibe and the food was great. Nothing but a good time, and we'll visit again.

The first impression was very good. Some of what was ordered didn't come as ordered. We found the food to be bland and the taste (schnitzel) still has room for improvement.

Nice ambience, but unfortunately the food wasn't good for the price. As a starter there was some bread with herb butter, which was delicious. A Wiener Schnitzel with fries and a Champion Schnitzel also with fries. Both just over 20 euros. The meat of the schnitzel was not good and it only tasted like a deep fryer. The mushroom sauce was ok. The two of us got a small to medium portion of fries to share. Conclusion: not tasty and neither of us were full. Definitely not recommended for the price.

We are vegetarians. Montjoie / Monschau is not particularly a town where the options are legion... that evening, it was my partner's birthday and we had looked at a lot of menus, our choice fell on this restaurant because there was truffle ravioli. The owners, the cook and the waitress are extremely kind. They agreed to make the plate which was a simple hors d'oeuvre as a main course, we had a lot of humor when our dishes and drinks arrived, it was very good and friendly. The apfelstrudel was excellent. They understood that it was my partner's birthday and offered us shnapps as a digestive. Really a great evening and surprise! I would just like to point out that the map is in German, a smartphone with a translator will be a lifesaver.

Nous sommes végétariens. Montjoie / Monschau n’est pas spécialement une ville où les options sont légions… ce soir là, c’était l’anniversaire de mon compagnon et nous avions lorgné beaucoup de cartes, notre choix s’est porté sur ce restaurant car il y avait des raviolis à la truffe. Les tenanciers, la cuistot et la serveuse sont d’une gentillesse hors pair. Ils ont accepté de faire l’assiette qui était un simple hors d’œuvre en plat, nous avons eu beaucoup d’humour lors de l’arrivée de nos plats, des boissons, c’était très bon et convivial. L’apfelstrudel était excellent. Ils ont compris que c’était l’Anniversaire de mon conjoint et nous ont offert du shnaps en digestif. Vraiment une belle soirée et surprise !

Allergy sufferers beware - ordering gluten-free is very difficult Due to its location, the restaurant is very inviting. A reservation was possible in the morning without any problems. The service started off friendly and accommodating. The indication of a food allergy was noted. However, the salad we ordered contained gluten. Unfortunately, the service was not able to act quickly, but instead held us back with the statement: "I'll clarify this with the kitchen." After 10 minutes, we gave the plate back. There was no apology or counter-offer. The main course was taken with us with the words: "Hopefully this will work now." Served. Shocked looks from us. The waiter apologized when paying with a drink. We didn't see the chef who was so highly praised. That's at least what you would expect with such an event. The restaurant is Unfortunately no recommendation from us.

My wife and I had a wonderful evening in your restaurant. And although we arrived earlier than announced, there was no waiting time worth mentioning. The food is very good, although the kitchen's strength lies in the starters. But that's just my opinion. In any case, you won't find a better carpaccio for this price in a very large area. Speaking of the price... In my opinion it was almost ridiculously low for what was on offer. Many thanks to the entire staff! We will be back!

After a long hike along the Rur, my wife and I stopped here for apple strudel and coffee. We were warmly welcomed and served courteously. The ambience is well-kept and the style appeals more to older guests. Whatever we are... Everything's fine.

The ambience is great, the service from the male colleagues is very nice. We were immediately offered a table and apologized several times for the delay. The cheese spaetzle would be very tasty. The toilet definitely needs to be cleaned, it's not hygienic.

Hatten eine Tischreservierung mit dem Hinweis, das es evtl. wg. Personalmangel nicht klappt, man uns dann aber Mittags anruft, damit wir uns ein anderes Restaurant suchen können. Es ruft niemand an, wir fahren hin, stehen vor verschlossener Tür und auf meinen Anruf hin bekommen wir die Antwort, es täte ihnen leid, sie hätten uns jetzt auch angerufen.... Ich habe ja Verständnis für die Situation, aber nicht dafür, dass man uns nicht informiert. Unser Eindruck: hier gehen wir nicht mehr hin.

Schönes Lokal. Auch der Apfelstrudel war gut. Leider ist die Bedienung sehr unfreundlich. Wenn man nur Kaffee und Kuchen isst darf man nicht am Fenster sitzen. Man ist dann Gast zweiter Klasse. Nicht nur uns ist es so ergangen. Eine Gruppe mit 8 Personen ging es genauso und hat daraufhin das Lokal verlassen. In dem Lokal ist man offensichtlich auf Gäste nicht angewiesen.

Wat een verschrikkelijke gelegenheid. Mannelijk personeel loopt te blaffen en commanderen (leren fluisteren in een machinekamer). Roddelt over klanten terwijl die klanten dat kunnen horen. Koude apfelstrudel en warme chocomel kwam 20min nadat anderen koffie hadden. Vreselijk onvriendelijk!!! Een echte afrader.

Wir waren zu dritt mittags in diesem Restaurant. Wir setzten uns an einen Tisch mit 4 Plätzen, nachdem wir auf Nachfrage in diese Richtung geschickt worden waren. Weniger als die Hälfte der Tische war belegt. Als wir unsere Bestellung mit 2 Apfelstrudeln begannen, wurden wir von der jungen weiblichen Bedienung aufgefordert, uns an einen anderen Platz zu setzen, da hier nicht der Bereich für den Verzehr von Kleinigkeiten sei. Beim Bringen der Getränke wirkte die Bedienung unsicher, ich fürchtete, sie würde etwas verschütten. Die bestellte Suppe und die Apfelstrudel haben uns geschmeckt, aber zu weiteren Bestellungen hatten wir dann keine Lust mehr. Bei der Bezahlung der Rechnung von etwa 30 Euro wurde die Zahlung per Karte verweigert, da dafür der Betrag zu niedrig sei. So unfreundlichen Service habe ich selten erlebt.

Das Essen war okay, der Apfelstrudel war aber definitiv TK Ware, nur lau warm und innen kühler als außen. Der Service war freundlich aber etwas unaufmerksam. Was aber mal garnicht geht ist Öttinger Billigbier in Paulaner Gläsern zu servieren!!!

Heerlijk gegeten, in kerstsfeer. Was eigenlijk volgeboekt maar we mochten nog komen eten. Er was nergens geen haast bij, lekker kunnen genieten.

Goed eten, snelle keuken door niet te grote kaart. Mooi aangekleed restaurant. De bediening is goed en maakte geen probleem van een bestelling wijzigen.

Am Eingang war am Montagabend zum Schnitzeltag als wir am Restaurant um 18:40 Uhr !!! ankamen ein Schild mit „We are closed“. Wir fragten dann aber nach ob tatsächlich schon geschlossen sei. Der Herr an der Theke meinte wir sollten seine Kollegin fragen. Diese meinte kurzum, es ist zufällig gerade ein Tisch für 2 frei geworden. Ohne Kommentar wird uns die Speisekarte auf den Tisch geworfen. Nach längerer Wartezeit, obwohl es nicht voll war, bekamen wir unsere Speisen, auch lieblos ohne ein Wort hingestellt. Schnitzel mit Monschauer Senfsoße und Pommes. Auch wenn es Schnitzeltag war und es tatsächlich preiswert war, war es soweit auch lecker. Allerdings hätte es für die Optik wenigstens eine Scheibe Tomate oder ein Salatblatt sein dürfen. So sah das Ganze ziemlich jämmerlich aus. Um kurz vor 20 Uhr waren wir dann die letzten Gäste. Das Personal deckte schon andere Tische wieder ein und unterhielt sich dabei so, das wir es hören sollten. Dadurch sahen wir uns genötigt, uns die Rechnung geben zu lassen. Im hinausgehen wurde dann gesagt: Feierabend, jetzt schließen wir schnell ab. Fazit: Vielleicht waren wir zum falschen Zeitpunkt dort, aber wir werden dort nicht wieder einkehren.

Schöne Aussicht. Uns hat der Chef bedient, er war sehr unfreundlich. Das Essen war gut aber die Portionen könnten größer sein.

Wunderschön direkt an der Rur gelegen, kleine Karte dafür alles frisch und lecker, die Monschauer Senfsuppe ist ein Gedicht und das Personal ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit

Wir waren heute zu dritt im Restaurant. Nie wieder. 2 Schnitzel bestellt innerhalb von 5 min serviert. Die Pilzsauce unterirdisch. Keine Beilagen. Keine Menü Veränderung möglich. Schade.

Montag ist Schnitzeltag. Serviert mit dicken belgischen Fritten gab es für uns Senfschnitzel und Schnitzel Wiener Art. Die Portionsgröße ist gut, die Qualität ebenso. Das Schnitzel Wiener Art erhält einen Punkt Abzug, weil es in Kombination mit den Fritten insgesamt etwas zu trocken wirkt. Eine Person aus unserer Runde entschied sich für die Forelle und wahr sehr zufrieden. Das Einrichtung ist rustikal, die sanitären Anlagen im Untergeschoss sind sauber und auf der Höhe der Zeit, jedoch nicht behindertengerecht.

Not the friendliest service. Food does not taste good. And it smells weird. They do not have much for children. Restaurant looks cozy with a nice view on the city.

Wir fanden es sehr lecker. Eins der wenigen Restaurants wo wir wirklich nochmal einkehren würden. Der Berufserfahrene Kellner war auch super 👍

Waren helemaal verrast over het heerlijke eten en de vriendelijke bediening. “Alles” klopte voor ons. Mochten we weer in Monschau komen dan gaan we zeker weer naar dit restaurant!

Even een verrassende ontdekking. Zo eenvoudig als het er buiten uitziet, hoe geweldig sfeervol het binnen is. Lekker gegeten aan een normale prijs met mooie en vriendelijke bediening. Een aanrader!

Sehr schönes Restaurant. Der Service war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam :) Das Essen war der Hammer 🥰 Kann ich nur empfehlen. Am besten reservieren damit man auch am Wochenende einen schönen Platz bekommt ☀️

Sehr leckeres Essen und die Bedienungen waren herrlich lustig. Man wurde gut unterhalten und haben uns gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Bis zum nächsten Mal!

Sehr freundlich, Schnitzel am Schnitzeltag waren grundsätzlich okay, aber nicht knusprig sondern labberig. Der Salat/Dressing war sehr lecker. Gut bürgerlich. Antikes Ambiente. Der Ausblick auf die Rur ist schön.

Das Essen (Schnitzel alte herrlichkeit, forelle und Rinderroulade) war eigentlich ganz gut. Hirschgulasch war auch bereits aus. Es war nur so, dass zuerst ein falsches gericht gebracht wurde und uns dann mitgeteilt wurde, dass unser ausgewähltes Essen trotz des durch die Bedienung erwähnten Zusatzangebots "Rinderbäckchen" nicht mehr vorrätig war. Währenddessen waren unseren beiden Begleitpersonen schon fast fertig mit dem Essen. Ziemlich blöd gelaufen...
