Very nice clean and cosy restaurant behide the Protestant church, very attentive service and friendly staff. Menu offers wide choices. We stayed in Monschau for 3 days, and we ate here 3 days! When we asked to add garlic oil on our spaghetti Bolognese, or fried chicken (though the dish doesn't go with garlic oil), they still adapted to the request! We love the salad with their lovely mustard sauce and German typical fragmented cabbage (with a taste of sweet and sour)! Compared to other restaurant in such a small town, with their friendly and helpful staff, good food like this, plus very nice bright clean WC, it deserves 5 star! Highly recommended!

Today, we went to the "Alter Markt" restaurant with a large group of 35 people after making a reservation. A comfortably furnished restaurant with very efficient and friendly service awaited us. Despite the large number of people, the food and drinks were served very quickly, and everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. Highly recommended.

I went to the Alter Markt restaurant with a friend. It's one of the few restaurants that offers a vegetarian option (veggie schnitzel). We were able to put together a salad with fried potatoes and a fried egg from a variety of side dishes. The service staff was extremely attentive and courteous. The food was delicious and a fair price. The restaurant was completely full, and the atmosphere was great. We would go back again.

Four of us dined. The decor is beautiful and fits the atmosphere of the Monschau restaurant. However, the service was disappointing; the side salads, which the menu says come with the meal, were forgotten. When they pointed this out, there was no apology, just a question about whether we really wanted the salads. The fish (trout) was delicious and crispy fried, but it was poorly served with 1.5 potatoes and no sauce. Instead, we were offered ketchup. A dish that would be even more delicious with a good deep fryer. My partner's fried potatoes were standard frozen goods. We cannot recommend the restaurant and would not visit again.

The only restaurant where you received a friendly welcome and were still able to get food at 8 p.m. We were in Spa last weekend to watch the F1 and stayed overnight in Monschau. Due to the timing, we didn't get back until late, like many tourists there who were also there for the F1. Apparently, only one restaurant here has adapted to this, and that's this one. We requested a table for 9 people at very short notice for Saturday evening on the long Ascension weekend. After a brief discussion, we were given one. Therefore, we changed restaurants. Unfortunately, they don't serve rosé wine either. A small note: if you read the restaurant's response, you can see how they treat their customers. Respect for customers would be great. Other restaurants in Monschau offer it!

Vegan options are heavily promoted here – it looked promising. The tarte flambée, for which I paid almost €22, was a frozen product with cold, pre-cut vegetables. The taste was disappointing and nothing like the photo (not even the one shown in the reviews here). Incomprehensible: The salmon version costs about €5 less. If you want to appeal to vegan customers, the quality and price should be right. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it.

Uriges lokal im Zentrum von Monschau mit sehr freundlicher und aufmerksamer Bedienung. Die Gerichte sind gut bürgerlich und traditionell gut zubereitet. Das Bauernschnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln ist kross und saftig zugleich. Die Bratkartoffeln knusprig und gut. Wer nach einer längeren Wandertour ein gutes Bier und deftiges Essen möchte wird hier fündig.

It was great experience, we went with our 2.5 year old toddler for dinner during Christmas break. The food was great and service was excellent. It was comfortable to spend time inside with an active toddler.

Typical tourist restaurant. Fast delivery, no quality. Schnitzel etc. all molded meat, frozen fries, frozen fried potatoes too greasy etc. Everything is run of the mill, there will be no cook in the kitchen. If you like good food, this is not the place for you. Maximum sufficient.

Wer in Monschaus Altstadt essen geht weis worauf er sich einlässt, die Erwartungen waren also nicht hoch. Es ist innen recht nett eingerichtet und man kann sich wohl fühlen. Der Service ist flott und freundlich. Wir hatten beide das Monschauer Schnitzel Das Essen hat das Niveau einer Pommesbude. Ich tippe mal das hier tiefgefrorene Schnitzel in die Fritteuse geworfen werden. Die durchaus anständigen Pommes waren nicht durch und für die Senfsauce wurde bestimmt kein Monschauer Senf benutzt. Aber das dürfte der Standard vor Ort sein, wie zu erwarten nur Barzahlung.

Im „Alter Markt“ war es super gemütlich (tolle geschmackvolle Weihnachtsdekoration) mit richtig niedlichen Sitzecken für 2-3 Personen (Empfehlung Tisch 2 und 3). Das junge und freundliche Team war aufmerksam und echt schnell. Die Auswahl an verschiedenen Essen war groß und die von uns gewählte Speisen haben richtig gut geschmeckt (waren zweimal da und haben Schnitzel mit Champignons , Bauernschnitzel und Salat mit Hünchenstreifen gegessen).

We spontaneously dined there on a Friday evening. The service was good. A young team, very friendly and fast. (Maybe too quick for a leisurely dinner)… Unfortunately, I can't understand the positive reviews regarding the food in any way. Anyone who describes these dishes, especially the schnitzel, as good or even very good has apparently never eaten a halfway good schnitzel before. I would go so far as to say that these are the cheapest frozen goods, which would simply be an outrage at this price. The tarte flambées served at the next tables also looked like frozen convenience food. The prices are simply too high for that too. Our portions of fries and the schnitzel were ridiculously small and the thick fries weren't quite cooked either. I estimate the schnitzels to contain a maximum of 60-70 g of meat. A side salad or ketchup will be charged extra, as will some other change requests. We decided not to have dessert for reasons you can imagine. Perhaps one could have foreseen that in such a tourist place it is all about profit with minimal use of raw materials and the quality suffers. However. Once and never again. The fact that card payments were not possible and you then have to withdraw money from an ATM outside is simply no longer appropriate in 2024. That's just annoying. And then, about an hour after eating, I also had gastrointestinal problems. It may not have been the food, but for me it would fit together and round off the bad experience in Monschau.
