The concept is unique, and we need many more places like this! The ambiance is excellent, with great music and a relaxed atmosphere. The food is outstanding: every dish is perfectly seasoned, and the selection is fantastic – there's something for everyone, with plenty of variety and authentic Japanese cuisine that goes beyond the usual fare. The drinks menu is extensive, ranging from classic, freshly tapped Kirin to a solid selection of sake, top-notch whiskies, and much more! I highly recommend 1oder8 to anyone looking for a great atmosphere combined with a bar vibe and good food. It's something truly special in Düsseldorf! (I happily travel from Zurich to eat here 😉) The staff is very friendly, and the service is attentive and proactive.

1oder8 is a culinary highlight in an already culinary region. No matter what you order, it's anything but standard fare; nothing is pre-made, and everything is freshly prepared. There aren't many seats, but with the quality and attention to detail, it couldn't be any bigger. Reservations aren't accepted, and sometimes you have to wait a bit. But once you're inside, the food and service are top-notch. I've been here several times, and everything has been excellent, both at lunchtime and in the evening. Thanks to the team!

A true gem! This izakaya offers authentic Japanese cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. Every dish was fresh, skillfully prepared, and perfectly paired, from small snacks to signature dishes. Yes, what's it like being turned out of a restaurant because it's too narrow and you can't get in? I guess there are no wheelchair users in Japan? We would have loved to leave a lot of money there that day, but... unfortunately, it wasn't possible. There was also no notice indicating that the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. A bitter journey for nothing...

Truly delicious and authentic. The atmosphere is pleasantly quiet, so even a couple can relax. And the food itself is great, too! For about €15, you'll leave feeling full. I'd be happy to go back :)

Tonkotsu Ramen is the best ramen in Düsseldorf, and Tonpei Yaki tastes like a better version of okonomiyaki. Service is quite good in a cozy little shop. Unfortunately, you have to stand up, but it's also a restaurant/bar.

Beautiful izakaya—I hadn't heard the term before. A Japanese pub, a cross between a restaurant and a bar. Most of the time, you can only stand here; there's a small seating area. About 20 people can dine here. The food is delicious, and the menu is well-organized. You can even watch the food being prepared. Very friendly service. You can also finish your meal outside by the large shop window. The restrooms are very clean. Highly recommended.

A cool Japanese "pub" with freshly tapped Kirin beer, freshly prepared dishes (not sushi or sashimi for once), good value for money, and standing seating. The owner/chef is very friendly and only speaks English and Japanese. Highly recommended and soon no longer an insider tip—this little place sells out quickly!

I had the omurice with tomato sauce, and it was honestly really good. The rice was garlicky, with bits of carrot and a subtle herbal flavor. The omelet hit the perfect balance (creamy and buttery)and the tomato sauce tasted fresh, with a nice hint of basil and ground chicken mixed in. Also, it came with a small soup, what I think was some form of chicken broth. For only €10, the portion was generous, the food came out quickly, and the service was smooth. The only thing to note is that the setup is more suited for solo visitor it’s a bar-style seating facing the wall, with no regular tables. It feels very authentically Japanese: you come in, enjoy your meal quietly, and head out. It’s not the kind of place to linger and chat, but that’s part of its charm. I’ll definitely be coming back.

This is a totally great Japanese experience in little Tokyo Dusseldorf. If you're into Japanese food or drink then this place is a must visit. I loved it so much I went here twice in one night. Their food is great and fresh, and the beer and sake is top notch. I even bumped into a long standing German couple who had moved from Tokyo some 30 years ago, great chat and help with choosing the right sake. 😋

The food is still good but because of the service has declined over the past year. The atmosphere was more Japanese with Japanese service now it's really full of tourists with German quality service. Very unfortunate.

By far the best karaage and takoyaki I've ever eaten. Definitely worth a visit!

The restaurant is quite narrow - you must stand while eating. It'd be perfect for anyone who goes alone or in pairs and prefers a quick meal. But quick doesn't mean not delicious. Honestly Karaage (fried chicken?) can easily be the juiciest and well-seasoned chicken I've had in Düsseldorf. Will be back to try something else.

I was here today with my brother. At first, we weren't sure what we wanted to eat, but we received excellent advice. Later, the food arrived, and it was first-class, and I really enjoyed it. The overall quality of the various dishes was very impressive, and I really liked them. This gave me a positive impression of the kitchen. The very friendly and helpful staff also create a relaxed atmosphere. The people there know their stuff. I'd happily recommend it!

I went there under my girlfriend's recommendation and I wasn't expecting much, however my view changed completely especially when we started talking to the workers there. They were friendly and really welcoming, the food was absolutely amazing, I ordered the omu rice with curry sauce and pork, the egg was creamy, the rice was savoury and the curry was like an explosion of flavour. 10/10 would recommend and I will definitely be visiting here again with more friends

We had been looking forward to visiting 1or8 after seeing it featured on television, and even drove over an hour to get there. Unfortunately, our experience ended before it even began. We arrived today at 3:30 PM and found no one waiting outside the restaurant. As we entered, the owner immediately told us, “You have to wait outside as other people are waiting outside,” without so much as a greeting or a polite request. When I mentioned that no one was actually outside, he simply repeated, “But still, you have to wait outside.” A simple “hello” or a friendly “please wait a moment” would have gone a long way. Instead, we were met with a rather unwelcoming attitude. Hospitality should always be part of the dining experience — sadly, that was missing here.

Very tasty fried chicken pieces, karaage. There is standing room only, you have to know that. An enrichment for Düsseldorf.

Okonomiyaki omurice was out of this world

Great price, amazing food. I had the omurice, okonomiyaki style, I never had that before and it's the perfect combo of fluffy omelette with some sweet and sour oko sauce. I also got some very fluffy takoyakis as starter to share. It's a small place so it might be complicated if you are a group bigger than 4.

Exceptional place and taste. I had a creamy noodle plate with shrimp, chicken and vegetables. The curry, coco and really slighly spiced broth was just perfect for me. The alcohol free Kirin is also really good and fresh. A good discovery in the city. Bookmarked!

What a nice concept. In this restaurant you do not sit at tables, but you stand along a kind of bar. The service is very nice, fast and serves delicious dishes. The price is also friendly. In short, highly recommended if you are in Little Tokyo.

Simple but hearty food. We ordered the omurice with curry sauce and it was really good. It was a very delicious comfort meal. Every aspect of the food was satisfying. I especially love the soft egg, in combination with delicious minced chicken in the curry sauce that complements the soft seasoned rice. We also got soup with a very clean taste. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch here but be prepared to wait for a table as the place is quite small. A must try place in Düsseldorf!

The lunch menu is very tasty and if you come with a friend you can also enjoy the time together! The omur rice with garlic rice is very tasty! I also love the clear broth, it has a strong umami and still refreshes you, it's of course not filling but simply soothing and then the main course comes and everything is scored! 😁

Best spot for Omurice - simply a dream 🤍 We tried curry & cream sauce. The cream sauce also has parmesan in it, which you can definitely taste.

Sensational Japanese bar in Izakaya style. The clear menu offers a great selection of different Japanese delicacies, definitely try the karaage and takoyaki! Attention, Izakaya also means that you eat standing up, no seats! Nevertheless: 100% recommendation!

A few weeks ago, I visited 1oder8 with a few family members. We had a great time, we really enjoyed the food and drinks. However, because I was leaning against a pillar, I accidently touched a small picture frame causing it to drop and break. I felt the mood of the staff switching to grumpy and unfriendly, not accepting my apology. In the end, they charged us 20 euros for the damage. At the time, I felt too embarassed to say anything. However, later on I realised. This is the responsibility of the restaurant to ensure the safety of their customers. This is a standing bar, people drink, accidents happen. You can not blame a customer if an accident happens. Besides, every business should be insured for accidents like these. I apologized many times, but they didn't even respond to it. In the end, it ruined our night. I would have tipped in any case if they didn't charge us extra...

An experience! When we were looking for a small snack shortly after 10 p.m., we ended up in this authentic Japanese standing bar by chance. It couldn't have gone better, we got a seat after a short wait and were completely thrilled. Unfortunately we weren't that hungry, otherwise we would have tried a lot more. Great atmosphere, fantastic food and very friendly service. Be sure to try it out for yourself!

One friend accidentally bumped into a frame attached to a pole, which fell down. The owner reacted very grumpily and charged €20 for it. This is a place where you can only eat standing up, so it’s not unlikely that someone might lean against a pole or table. The fact that their frame wasn’t properly secured should be the restaurant’s responsibility, especially since it could even injure a customer.

A culinary delight in a class of its own. Best octopus I've ever eaten with a mayonnaise that was so delicious. The eggplant was a poem and the service was just super friendly. Delicious drinks and the price-performance ratio is right here. You completely forget that you have to stand ;)

I went to an omurice restaurant once because it served fried oysters. The cook seemed Japanese, so I went in. It was absolutely delicious for the price. I couldn't eat the fried oysters because they were fishy (because they were frozen, of course), but the rest was really delicious. The staff was friendly and highly recommended!!!! Definitely. One thing I don't like is that there is a shelf on the table, so it's very uncomfortable to eat because your head touches it..ㅠㅠ

Been there for the second time, the first time the store was super full and the waiting time was longer. This time we ordered four dishes from the speed menu and received them in about 10 minutes. Great taste and clear recommendation!

If you have been to Japan you will recognise the feeling. The food is great. Had ramen and soy marinated steak.

This lunchtime I tried a Japanese omurice and I loved it! The fluffy, perfectly cooked egg shell with the savory filling was a real treat. For €10 you not only get a delicious meal, but also great value for money. Absolutely recommended!

One of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in Düsseldorf! Standing room is relatively limited, but it's worth it!

We were super positively surprised! We stumbled in without any prior knowledge of the store's concept and were immediately greeted warmly by everyone. The food is served to the standing guests in small spaces on the right and left along the dining room - it is a bit cramped and cozy, but it is twice as much fun because a completely different interaction takes place than when everyone is sitting at their little table. We tried out the (rather meat-heavy) menu and were surprised. In the end, each of us was able to choose a favorite on the menu and we went on to the theater full and happy about the surprisingly positive experience :) clear recommendation!

Place is quite small and can be full so it’s better to come earlier otherwise expect to wait in line for half an hour or so. Food is 10/10 i enjoyed it a lot and the wait was worth it!

Very small and probably very authentic shop for that very reason! The Japanese omelet was excellent and prepared with such craftsmanship that you really feel like you are in Japan! It is important to know that it is a kind of izakaya restaurant in the morning where you can also sit. In the evening it becomes a standing restaurant, which is relatively normal in Japan and also has a great flair!

Addendum: after being in Japan all I can say is that it is so authentic. The food is great, just as good as in Japan, I would even say! The smallest details in the restaurant (the sheets at the entrance, the way the food is presented, the music, the chefs saying goodbye/thank you loudly) are exactly like in Japan. Simply great!! Authentic Japanese restaurant with a modern touch. The music in the background is pleasant and fits the ambience very well (Japanese city pop). The kitchen, which you can look into, looks very clean. The food was very tasty. I can only recommend the Tonkotsu Ramen! Significantly better than those in the area! I'll be back :)

You can definitely do it for the price

Food and service is great. However being a small place it gets bit stuffed during rush hours.

We were at 1oder8 on a Wednesday evening and quickly got a table without making a reservation (we were there just after it opened). The shop seems quite small/cramped due to its narrow design, but it still has its own charm. Since we weren't particularly hungry, we all ordered a few snacks and something to drink. We ordered, among other things, Geso-Kara (fried squid tentacles), the matcha cream cheese taiyaki and the cheesecake with yuzu jam. My sister and I don't drink or tolerate alcohol at all, so we explicitly ordered sour drinks without alcohol (everyone ordered for themselves, so this was said twice each). In addition, it is also stated separately for the sour drinks that they are all available without alcohol. The food came relatively quickly and so did the drinks. First of all, the food was very tasty and absolutely impressed us. However, the first time I drank some of my drink, I immediately thought it contained alcohol. I was confused by the fact that our friends, who had also tried the drink, told us that there was no alcohol in it. I also thought to myself that it was unlikely that they had even laced both drinks with alcohol and that there would only be an "imitation" alcohol taste. Only after I had already drunk three quarters of the drink and we had finished eating did I start to feel very warm and uncomfortable. When paying, I asked the waitress whether there was alcohol in the drinks, which she confirmed (she was shocked/regretful herself). Now for my review: The food was great. However, I have to deduct a few points for the service, although there was generally friendliness. Once for serving alcohol despite an explicit request not to do so. And that we still had to pay in full for the drinks. Unfortunately, the alcohol made me feel really bad that evening, so I had to put my future plans on hold. Overall, I fluctuated between 3 and 4 stars because I think it's a no-go. Due to the lack of attention, I would recommend being careful here in case someone has an allergy or is pregnant. Despite all this, in this case I'm choosing 4 stars (but deducting stars in the service area instead) because the food was very good and that's mainly why I'm writing the review. However, whether I will go again is another question :)
