Very large pizza for lunch, it was delicious

Unfortunately we have to report that our last visit to the restaurant did not meet our expectations. The food served did not meet usual standards in several aspects. In particular, the meat was not sufficiently cooked, which significantly affected our enjoyment. Even though we paid full price, the quality did not match our previous experience. Since we have enjoyed visiting the restaurant so far, we regret this development, but will refrain from further visits.

It used to be better, the waiter didn't even look at you when you ordered, beer without a crown, food medium. The ambience inside is ok, outside it is no longer possible, loveless and uncomfortable. We won't be coming back for a while.

Very nice restaurant with consistently warm food. It's very comfortable to sit inside and outside and the food is amazing, no matter what we've tried so far. But the portions are much too big for us, a senior plate a little smaller wouldn't be bad... In any case, we'll still be guests more often as long as we're visiting Essen.

Very rustic location, beautifully located on the Ruhr with a nice beer garden. The food is very tasty, but the portions are very large. Price level rather high.

I was very annoyed by the way I was treated there. When I asked the waiter before ordering whether the lunch dishes, specifically shown on the menu (pizza €12.50, pasta €11.50, etc.), were all reduced, the answer was yes. When paying, his statement only referred to the pizza. I then paid the regular price of €18.90 for the Spaghetti Aglio Olio pasta and my friend paid €12.50 for his pizza. The waiter's argument: 'For 10 years the reduced price has only applied to the pizza and not to the other dishes in the separate section of the regular menu!'

A restaurant that you can recommend without reservations. The service is really good and friendly. The portions are large, so you won't be hungry at the end. The atmosphere is cozy and there is plenty of space for all guests inside and out. I give it five stars 👍

We were able to celebrate our “dream wedding” at the 12 Apostles in September 2023. It was just a dream, with the best weather on top of it. Even then, the boss was so flexible and moved us to the park because it would have been too hot in the sun. From planning to implementation, simply perfect. The food was delicious and to the point. Our guests praised the 12 Apostle team, the service was great, very attentive and quick. If we were to get married again, we would do it here again 😍 Thanks for everything ❤️

Huge selection, with something on the menu for every taste.

No repeat for us. Charging 10 euros just for a small child for a handful of pasta without everything is already borderline, even if it is offered that way on the menu. Apart from that, the service wasn't very friendly, was it because of the stress? Maybe it's better outside in summer.

Very suitable for wedding celebrations.

We celebrated our wedding at 12 Apostles in October 2024. From the first meeting for the viewing to the last moment of the party, everything was perfect. Communication always great. Meri always responded within minutes and even answered annoying bride control questions calmly 😁 All of our guests have raved about the service and food. Everything was to our complete satisfaction! 10/10!!

Very nice restaurant located directly on the Ruhr. The food was very tasty, but the waiting time for it was relatively long, which is understandable on a sunny Sunday. The Schnitzel Wiener Style and Calamari Fritti are two dishes that I can highly recommend! I'd love to come back!

Everything here feels like an “all-round worry-free package”. We celebrated our wedding at the end of May in the beautiful event barn. We also received tips for the wedding and the process. The entire team is very professional and extremely friendly. The quality of the food is sensational and even better than in the restaurant, where we have often eaten. We discussed a new vegetarian dish that we thought was great with a recipe in advance and the chef implemented it very flexibly. Everything was beautifully presented and there was always someone there, be it for food, drinks or organizational questions. Every wish was fulfilled immediately. We would always choose the 12 Apostles. We have never been treated as fairly as here. Both with the postponements due to the pandemic and with things like “fork money” or covers. The offer is honest and there is no “small print” to be careful about. Everything was taken care of, from the parking lot attendant to the cutting of the wedding cake. There was also a red carpet as a surprise. Everyone was just thrilled and the team made the day very relaxed. We wish the entire team all the best for the future, keep it up :)

Visited the 12 Apostles for the first time last week. We were quite happy with the dishes, but unfortunately I can't say the same. I ordered the Judas pizza and was really looking forward to the ingredients: paprika and hot peppers. When the pizza arrived I could hardly believe my eyes. The peppers were barely visible and the peppers were only cut four times, so no more than 2cm. That's not a pizza topping!!!!!!!!!! I'll get the Judas pizza again next time and hope that it looks different than the one I had.

We went to a wedding in the “Scheune”, the large hall, a beautiful location. The service was incomparable, someone was always there straight away if you even thought you needed something 😀 Plus everyone was super friendly and nice. The food was also very, very good, a great selection and everything tasted great. We would be happy to eat and celebrate here again if we have the opportunity.

We celebrated our wedding in October 2023 at the 12 Apostles restaurant and couldn't be happier with our choice. The support from the team was excellent from start to finish. They were always attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly. The food was simply fantastic - our guests are still raving about the delicious dishes and the variety on offer. We also found the price-performance ratio to be very fair, especially given the high quality of the food and service. We would highly recommend 12 Apostles to anyone planning a special event!

21-9-'24 we arrived at 5.55 pm, after 5 minutes our beer was on the table, at 6.10 pm the order was taken. After half an hour we had not heard anything, tables around us did receive their orders on time. Our 'waiter' didn't understand, he had actually placed the order. Later we asked again where our food was, but the same response. Only at 7.15 pm did the waiter inquire and tell us that we were getting impatient. The chef came and tried to apologize. We each received a free beer at our request. Our food was on the table within 8 minutes, unfortunately my partner had cordonbleu with cold fries and I had spareribs that were no longer tasty due to overheating. Never had such a disappointing meal in a restaurant before.

We went there for the first time based on a recommendation. I can't rate the outside area because we reserved inside. But that was all fine. Large selection of all kinds of dishes. Get full. you always. It's a shame there were only 12 pizzas. But that was probably the concept of the restaurant 😉

Such a beautiful place, but unfortunately careless and profit-oriented management. Terrace with ugly seating and garden tents. Some of the waiters speak German poorly and therefore seem a bit unfriendly. Unfortunately our food (salad and steak) wasn't good. Meat tough and salad not fresh and crunchy. It's a real shame, otherwise we would like to come with our bikes more often. But after the disappointment, never again.

A cozy restaurant. Despite two weddings, there was still a place to be found in the beer garden. The service was quick and attentive. The food was nicely prepared and very tasty

We really enjoy coming here. Even with a dog Very pleasant in the summer months. Food very tasty and something for everyone. Fair prices. I especially like Wednesday (steak day) and it's very good!

There is one point deducted for the service, because depending on who you talk to, the staff can sometimes be a bit "short" and you will sometimes get snippy answers and sayings and before you can say something or ask, they are gone already gone again.

I came to the location through a friend. It's very big. Outdoors as well as indoors. All in all, well divided. When we were there there was a lot of service staff, which was really quick. Friendliness can be improved but ok. It was very busy... the location is very nice, you can take a nice walk by the water afterwards. Parking was a bit of a juggle but doable. I had a risotto with fresh vegetables and I have to say it was very tasty. Usually such dishes are poorly seasoned and taste boring. But it definitely wasn't. The portions are also very generous. The atmosphere is a bit too busy and too big for me, but that's just my personal taste. Sitting outside was very nice and all in all I can absolutely recommend it.

Our wedding at 12Apostel was an absolute dream! As soon as we were able to experience the location as guests at other weddings, we knew that it would be perfect for us. And our expectations were actually exceeded. The backdrop for our free wedding and the subsequent celebration was simply breathtaking. From the first contact to the last dance we felt completely comfortable. The entire team - from the cleaners to the kitchen crew to the service staff and the owners - was incredibly warm and professional. There just didn't seem to be a "no" answer. Every wish was read from our lips. The food was another highlight. The selection was great, the quality was outstanding and the presentation was simply top. Our guests were thrilled and still rave highly about both the location and the food. The service was impeccable - no one had to wait for a drink, and the friendliness of the staff contributed significantly to the relaxed atmosphere. We couldn't be happier with our choice. The 12Apostles made our wedding an unforgettable day and we are eternally grateful for that.

Were there to celebrate a wedding. Although there were two other celebration parties there at the same time, we were well isolated from each other and were able to keep to ourselves. The combination with the outdoor area was well used and also invited people to relax between the celebrations. The staff was very friendly and tried to fulfill all guests' wishes. Around midnight there was pizza from the built-in pizza oven on site!

Es dauerte bis ein Kellner kam obwohl wenig Gäste an den Tischen saßen. Wir winkten dann einen Kellner um zu bestellen. Nicht gerade freundlich. 3 Bier bestellt und er brachte 3 große Bier. Die haben wir nicht bestellt. Kellner sagte: draußen gibt nur große. Ich sagte das stimmt nicht komme öfter hierhin und habe immer Kleine bekomme. Ich fahre mit dem Auto sagte ich, ihn interessierte es nicht. An anderen Tiscgen standen kleine Biere. Wir bestellten auch was zu essen obwohl ich fest stellte, dass die Preise nun höher als vor 4 Wochen waren. Das Essen war ok, obwohl ich früher auf meiner Backkartoffel mehr Hähnchenfleisch hat. Vorläufig werde ich dieses Lokal nicht mehr versuchen und die Freunde die ich dorthin geführt habe auch nicht. Wenn der Gast zu last wird!

Great location, friendly service, food large and tasty

I was allowed to hold the ceremony during a wedding on the green area to the right of the main building, so I can only judge the ambience - but I was more than thrilled with it. I particularly liked that there was sufficient and visually appealing sun protection and that the children could play safely on the large lawn. Highly recommended!

Food and beer good. The server was grumpy and said we ordered the wrong food because we were not German. We had two locals with us that ordered for us.

Our wedding location was simply perfect – the ideal place for our big day! My wife discovered this place over dinner three years ago and it was immediately clear that we wanted to get married here. The decision couldn't have been better. The location offered everything we wanted for a perfect wedding. The outdoor wedding ceremony on the meadow under the pavilion was simply fantastic and made our day unforgettable. The food was a real highlight! There was a large selection, so there was something for every guest, and everything tasted perfectly. Our guests still rave about the culinary delicacies. We would particularly like to emphasize the excellent service. The service staff were exceptionally attentive - empty glasses were immediately refilled and everything was cleared away promptly. We have rarely experienced such attentive service! Another big advantage of this location is that everything is there. The room is fully equipped and even the DJ only had to bring his mixer since everything else was already there. It made the organization and process much easier for us and our service providers. We would like to thank the entire team from the bottom of our hearts for this wonderful day and also for the personal wedding gift. We are already looking forward to our next meal with you and will highly recommend the location!

Five deserved points for that 12 apostles in the city of Essen. Very nicely located on the Ruhr and with an inviting beer garden. The overall package simply fits here. Very tasty food (our pizzas were really great), friendly and attentive service and, last but not least, good value for money. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

We were there on Schnitzel Day Tuesday. As soon as I was assigned a table, it was clear to me that it wouldn't work with the waiter. Unfortunately, I was proven right. He ate food wildly through the table, then complained when one of us wanted a starter because he could only take one course at a time and now had to cancel again. As an accusation. If he had simply said everyone please have the appetizer first, there would have been no problem. An additional sauce that was ordered was completely forgotten. But the big thing was that everyone at our table had already been provided with food and had already eaten it with relish, but my pizza seemed to have still been in Sardinia. After a few questions I was given the pizza with a cursory excuse. This looked tasty, but it was ice cold and the cheese was already hard again. We then took the pizza to the next higher-up waitress, who apologized. I no longer had the need for a new meal. However, the way the complaint was handled was very customer-oriented. The pizza was of course canceled, a round of schnapps of your choice and dessert of your choice for everyone at our table were on the house. I was very happy with the solution, so will be back, as were the rest of us Satisfied with the dishes ordered. There was a lot going on, the overall ambience was nice, the beer garden was nice and large, and there were also nice rooms inside.

Das ist ein schöner Ort aber das Essen ist hundsmiserabel. Alles zu Tode frittiert. Hatten gestern Spareribs, total hart gegrillt auf scheußlich frittierten Kartoffelecken, dazu ein frittiertes Wiener Schnitzel. Dann gibt es einen Schnitzelabend. Das selbe frittierte Schnitzel mit Champignonsauce ist dann ein Jägerschnitzel, mit Paprikasauce ist es ein Zigeunerschnitzel etc. Einfach nur schlecht.

Schönste Location in Essen. perfekte Hochzeit sehr schöne Musik. Super Parkplätze direkt am Wasser super freundliches Personal..

The worst pizza I've ever eaten. The pizza I tasted does not meet the quality standards that I place on such a product. The quality does not meet our standards. The pizza did not meet expectations. It had no taste of its own and was more reminiscent of a flat bread. The dough was too tough and not crispy and soft as it should be. The tomato sauce was of poor quality. I was aware that it wasn't the creation of a real pizza maker, but hunger took over at that moment, so I ate the pizza. A pizza can never be 100% inedible. The result is that many guests don't complain, but don't come back. The pizza dough had a very pale color and therefore differed from the picture on the homepage. This suggests that the actual pizza maker is no longer on site. In the catering industry it is often the case that the quality of the food depends largely on the employees, even if the owner puts a lot of effort into it. Nevertheless, I would like to make a suggestion for improvement. The outdoor dining on the terrace covered with several pavilions could potentially gain some atmosphere if some adjustments were made. Guests won't get wet, but the current solution may not be the most optimal. This is just a practical solution, but perhaps something could be improved. However, I would get paid for appropriate advice (not meant in the first place). However, I would like to make a suggestion for improvement: There was the Drago restaurant, whose owner had roofed the entire area with bright, wave-like elements. This created a friendly and bright atmosphere. I would therefore recommend avoiding the pavilions. PS: When you look through the reviews, you notice that the critical comments mainly concern the service. The owner says that the complaints will be discussed in team meetings. It appears that the manager does not act with the necessary determination and the staff does not follow his instructions. This leads to complaints about the same issue coming in over and over again. One particularly notable complaint is this: Guests moved from the garden to the pavilion because it was raining. The waiter behaved unfriendly towards them. The employee's unfriendliness can be explained by the fact that it meant he had more work in his area. If the entire staff is unfriendly, the reasons must be looked for elsewhere. It can be suggested that pay may not be adequate and employees may be in a highly regulated work environment, leading to reduced motivation. It can be assumed that the employees would be friendlier and more motivated if they were involved in sales. The kitchen is the foundation of every gastronomic establishment. This also applies to the pizza department. You shouldn't save money here. Because saving doesn’t mean making a profit. It is therefore advisable to hire a professional pizza maker as soon as possible.

It's a nice place but the food is terrible. Everything fried to death. Yesterday we had spare ribs, grilled very hard on terribly fried potato wedges, with a fried Wiener schnitzel. Then there is a schnitzel evening. The same fried schnitzel with mushroom sauce is then a Jägerschnitzel, with paprika sauce it is a Gypsy schnitzel, etc. Just bad. The worst pizza I've eaten in my life. The cuisine itself isn't bad, but the pizza is really not good. You can actually always eat a pizza and I ate it because I was hungry. The pizza maker who doesn't deserve this description simply has no idea. I don't think guests would go there again after eating pizza there. A pizza depends on the dough. And there the dough tastes more like bread dough...taste neutral and toe. The pizza dough should be crispy and soft. The tomato sauce is simply inedible. I ordered the pizza with additional fresh tomatoes. A real pizza maker doesn't put a big slice of tomato on it, but "Pomodorini", which give a smart taste. And the color? Just pale. Not like in the photos. So I suspect that the actual pizza maker is no longer there. Many components make a pizza worthy of this name.

We celebrated the wedding of our daughter and son-in-law on August 16th in the form of a free wedding (for us and many others, the first ever) of our daughter and son-in-law. The barn, the pavilion, the food, the weather and your team contributed to us having an unforgettable day, a beautiful evening, a wild night and a difficult morning ;-). Hours that will remain in our memories forever. You did a great job, including the service guys, it was unbelievable how attentive you were, we would have loved to invite you to join in the celebration. Great location, generally delicious food! Unfortunately, yesterday I reached into the toilet! I ordered spareribs and was looking forward to juicy ribs. Unfortunately, these were extremely dry, so they were not edible. The really nice waitress asked me for more sauce, but that wouldn't change the dryness of the meat. So I let 90% of the dish go back... what I don't know is that the full price was charged, even though the mistake was the caterer's... so *sorry* I would have at least a small one Attention from the house awaits. We spent our evening in the beer garden. Nice atmosphere, nice waitress and since we were there during the week, it wasn't too crowded. The steaks tasted good. The dessert is highly recommended. Price performance ratio is right...

It's a very nice location, the beer garden is great. The food was quite good so far. We were there with a larger group. Unfortunately, the pizza we ordered was delivered well before all the other dishes, so it was eaten by the time everyone else received their food. This should definitely be changed. We were there for the first time and met a very nice employee when making the reservation and were therefore really looking forward to this evening. Unfortunately we had no luck last night! The waiter was very unfriendly and inattentive, so we agreed not to visit this restaurant again.

Reservation for my birthday was arranged by phone, I was greeted unfriendly on site and apparently there was no reservation. We then looked for a place and were then turned away from it because it was reserved for 8 people, even though there were 6 of us. Afterwards we were ignored when we looked for another table - drinks were brought incorrectly, empty plates were not cleared away by the staff, so I put them on an empty neighboring table. We were denied a second round of drinks. The food was good, but didn't stand out. I will definitely not be coming back and, with the best will in the world, I cannot understand the many positive reviews. Of course there was no tip, but there was of course a comment from the waiter.

I would like to briefly note that I ate there on Schnitzel Day and that's probably why it was pretty crowded. 1. There is nothing to complain about when it comes to food! Incredibly good! 2. Service... Well, I felt like I was asleep and didn't make a particularly friendly impression on me and the people accompanying me. 3. Ambiance... Felt like I was at Oktoberfest.

Chic restaurant with charm. A nice location to celebrate with friends or family. The cuisine is excellent and the service is great. The menu leaves nothing to be desired. We have visited this restaurant many times and will do so again. Keep it up! 👍

Very nice terrace with a large garden and trees, when the weather was nice there was a lot of demand, so our waiter wasn't exactly friendly. We wanted to have a drink first and order food later, which probably taxed his patience too much.

As a family we were there spontaneously on Monday evening, pizza day. Due to the good weather, the outdoor area was completely closed. As soon as a table became free, it was already occupied again. A special compliment first: Despite 30 degrees, the service was super fast and really on the go. We have never experienced this anywhere. After what felt like 5 minutes we had our drinks and 15 minutes the food. Simply great. The pizzas were very good and quite large. The schnitzel dishes were also good. All in all, this wasn't our last visit.

I was very disappointed with my visit to the 12 Apostles restaurant in Essen. The atmosphere was rather uncomfortable and the service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter was inattentive and we had to wait a long time for our order. Unfortunately, when the food finally came, it wasn't any better: the pizza was lukewarm and the ingredients didn't seem fresh. The prices are far too high for the quality offered. Overall it was a disappointing experience that I cannot recommend. I hope it helps!

Dear 12 Apostles team, We couldn't have imagined our wedding on June 21st, 2024 in the barn to be more beautiful and uncomplicated. The planning in advance with Meri went smoothly and nothing was left to be desired on the day itself. The service was very courteous and the food was delicious - both were highly praised by all guests! Thanks to the whole team! We were invited there for dinner yesterday. The food was good again! But the waiter we received repeatedly was once again the very last!!! Unfriendly arrogant! Every time I see him I don't feel like staying there. Everyone can have a bad day, they never have a good day!!! The food doesn't taste good anymore! I've had enough now and won't be eating there anymore! Find a restaurant where we will be treated better and, above all, friendlier! PS: Repair work was also carried out on the roof foil of the outside restaurant where we were sitting! Aside from the noise it caused, our friend also got splashed with water! But he didn't care, they even made fun of it! The store is probably doing so well that they don't care about good customer service!

We spent lunch in the really nice beer garden, very attentive service, unfortunately the food was very mediocre and not really a recommendation. A pity!
