Top price-performance ratio and very good service

Ambiance is great, service was ok for me too. but no more. But I was here to eat and unfortunately it was a big disappointment. The schnitzel was completely bland. And the pepper that was served upon request is this finely ground pepper, which simply doesn't taste good at all. The fries were fried really soggy and not crispy. This isn't worth repeating.

Very nice location, especially the outside area. The food and service didn't leave much to be desired either! We particularly recommend the prawns on Friday!

This has nothing to do with quality Italian cuisine, unfortunately. The pasta and schnitzel were definitely not good. The schnitzel was deep-fried and tough, and the potatoes weren't cooked well. Pasta with strips of beef fillet—well, good meat is different. Simply tough.

Very nice restaurant and good service, but unfortunately the food was a disappointment. Vitello Tonnato was ice cold (probably came straight from the fridge) and the Cordon Bleu was frozen and tasted bland.

To put it quite frank, food and service are mediocre. You get a regular Italian menu, with largely underwhelming items; no matter if pizza, meat, or pasta. Considering the price, this impression gets even worse. The only upside is the location, great outside seating with fantastic view on the river. Probably, this is the main reason why it has been so crowded.

I'm looking forward to the next summer season, when we're cycling and walking we always enjoy a stop here in the garden. I would also be happy to have a pancake here at lunchtime. Of course it is also a wedding/party location and due to its location directly on the Ruhr it can quickly fill up, but you can usually still find a place in the garden.

We come here regularly with 6 friends and feel very comfortable. The attentive waiter Sepp in particular looks after us very well. Thank you very much for that.

I only had a cappuccino, but I really liked it there. It had something romantic about it, Eros Ramazzotti was on Sunday afternoon, it was pretty well attended and the decor was rustic, cozy but also chic at the same time!!! Tasteful and round! The 12 Apostles convinced me. I'll definitely come back for pizza 😉😋👍👍.

The service is particularly impressive: the employees are incredibly attentive and fulfill almost every wish. Here you feel familiar and completely comfortable. Sat outside today in the sunshine and ordered 2 coffees and 2 apple strudels...coffee came...and then nothing more...when I asked, the apple strudel came when the coffee was empty...no coffee on the house or anything like that... ..22.50 euros!!!And stupid sayings from the waiter!!!!

Choosing the 12-Apostel in Essen as our wedding location was the very best decision we could have made! I don't even know where to start. Even months after our outdoor wedding and party in the barn, we are still completely thrilled! Everything was just perfect - and even though we had only heard and read positive things about wedding celebrations at the 12 Apostles, the day and night completely exceeded our expectations! Visually, the barn with its adjacent pavilion for the wedding ceremony is simply super cozy and has a lot of charm! The planning/meetings with Mary and her husband were very uncomplicated and they were both very helpful! We were always able to stop by to plan the decorations etc. and got to know one or two of the employees who were always very friendly and always available to help and advise us. On the day itself, everything was done to ensure that the construction was carried out according to our ideas. After the wedding, the team remodeled the outdoor area very quickly and very discreetly. The service and food were unique! We were approached by an incredible number of guests, both in the evening itself and afterwards, about the super attentive, fast and friendly service and the buffet, which was impeccable both in terms of appearance and taste! The service was almost “dangerous” because you had barely put down your empty glass before you were offered the next one. The team quickly figured out what I like to drink best as a bride :D Nevertheless, we celebrated until shortly before 5 and we had the feeling of being welcome right up until the end! Finally, a special big thank you to Idriz and the rest of the team from August 16th. - with your work, but also with your friendly manner, you contributed a lot to making our day definitely unforgettable for us and our guests! We hope to have the pleasure of being wedding guests again and wish the entire team all the best!

Yesterday it was far too crowded and therefore very loud. It's better to invite fewer guests and you'll have a great atmosphere. I had the grill plate, unfortunately without any sauces like tzatziki or herb butter. Unfortunately it was very dry. In addition, some employees were a bit unfriendly and had a rough tone.

The food was excellent, the ambience was a bit old, as was the service, which sometimes seemed annoyed.

Very tasty, very friendly, everything perfect.

Unfortunately, when you enter the restaurant it smells very much like cooking (grease). The food has different qualities. For example, two starters were really good, but the mashed potatoes for the main course tasted like they came out of a bag. The quality of the meat was also not convincing. There are also really nice and friendly waiters and others who avoid eye contact and don't want to be spoken to. The pizzas at the next table, however, looked very tasty.

My family and I really enjoy eating there. The price-performance ratio is really good. And the food is always delicious too. The waiters are nice, attentive and accommodating 🤓🤗 we feel very comfortable there, even with a 10-month-old baby. Highly recommended👍🏻

We were there on New Year's Eve. Great food. My husband had his birthday that day and was given a piece of cake with a candle by the waiter. Very attentive and super friendly!!!The food was very good!!! Only recommended!!!

Unfortunately, as a severely disabled person, it's difficult there in the winter and you get cut off on the phone (I don't take orders...come in), despite trying to explain that you have a severe disability, you couldn't explain your problem...

Waren an Weihnachten dort. Der erste Eindruck war erstmal gut. But when the waiter served us, it wasn't so great anymore. He wasn't really attentive and very annoyed with the orders. We were 6 people and a child. It's not really child-friendly either. When I asked for a portion of rice and vegetables for my son, we didn't come straight away or asked if there were other options. He didn't respond at all and wanted to leave as quickly as possible... then we took the robber plates first. He had also made mistakes with the orders, everyone had the feeling that he was very overwhelmed... The food was apparently good and the plates were full except for the veal schnitzel with the special request of fried potatoes. There was only a hint of the fried potatoes on it. After this experience, I wouldn't eat there again. Because the food isn't child-friendly either.

Unfortunately it wasn't as tasty as I expected. The potato was anything but edible, the surrounding area was ok. The sundae was a bowl with 3 scoops of ice cream. For the prices it was disappointing.

Never again. Been there for the second time and the first time the service was quite chaotic and sometimes unfriendly. But today we experienced the coronation. We were there after a hike to have a final coffee. From the question about plant milk to the question about decaffeinated coffee, we were simply treated unkindly. “If you have to,” it said. The highlight came when paying, when a €3.30 tea (plus a tip that was actually unnecessary given the service) was paid for with small change (€1, 50ct. coins and 20ct). The waiter's reaction: an ice-cold, definitely derogatory look and the ORIGINAL WORDS "You don't do that" in an unfriendly tone. NOT WORKING AT ALL. NEVER AGAIN! We were speechless and really angry!

We were served very rudely today. Service staff didn't want to go and see if there was a milk alternative available. When asked if there was decaffeinated coffee, the answer was "if necessary" quote. When paying, the service employee can't give it out (no change) and when the next one of us pays with coins, the service employee hesitates to accept it and rolls his eyes. He says that “you don’t do that.” This is a factual representation, I leave it to everyone's own interpretation. We will definitely not be coming back again!

Nice shop with quick, attentive service and good food

In diesem Lokal muss man sich ausdrücklich erkundigen, was bestellte Gerichte kosten. Auf die Speisekarte und vor allem auf den Kellner kann man sich nicht verlassen. Der Kellner hat uns Vorspeisen serviert und berechnet, die keiner bestellt hatte, die auch nicht auf der Karte zu finden waren und die zudem sehr hochpreisig waren. Wir waren davon ausgegangen, dass der Kellner uns einen „Vorspeisenteller für 2 Personen“ zum Preis von 17,90 € empfohlen hatte. Denn nur eine solche Vorspeise für 2 Personen wird in der Karte angeboten. Stattdessen hat der Kellner 2 Phantasievorspeisen und ein spezielles Brot zum Gesamtpreis von 42,70 € serviert. Als wir dieses Geschehen reklamiert haben, sagte die Inhaberin, dies sei alles völlig korrekt. Man müsse eben vorher nach den Preisen fragen! Wenn das keine Abzocke ist??? Dies Lokal sieht uns und unsere Familien nie wieder!!!

I was there for the first time a few weeks ago. I found the atmosphere very pleasant and very simple! Really nice. I was surprised that someone came with the dog, it wouldn't have bothered me if the dog hadn't smelled so bad. That was unpleasant! Food, service, everything was great!

The 12 apostles am Staadt in Essen impresses with its cozy atmosphere, varied menu and friendly service. The beer garden and its suitability for celebrations in particular make it unique. Highly recommended!

Everyone will be fed here, we promise. Large selection of different dishes, Italian-style. Also suitable for larger groups, the atmosphere is quite nice, the seats can be replaced at one point or another. Top service, fast, attentive and funny.

We tried the lunch menu at 12 Apostles today. The pizza is really excellent, the service is absolutely fine and there is nothing to complain about when it comes to cleanliness. I don't really like the atmosphere, but that's a matter of taste. All in all, this restaurant is highly recommended

In October we had our free wedding at 12 Apostles and are still thrilled! We were relieved of so much of the organization that stresses us out when planning a wedding - and we didn't actually have to worry about anything beforehand or on the evening itself. The wedding itself took place outside on the lawn under the pavilion and by the water. The view was beautiful and underlined the great occasion. The tables were already set, so we just added our own individual touch with a little decoration. All of the guests were absolutely thrilled with the food - and also with the great service staff, who were absolutely attentive and super friendly. We can only recommend that anyone who wants a wonderful wedding should at least consider this location. Thank you very, very much for that.

On the last visit the food was significantly weaker than before. Lukewarm goose, partially burnt entrecote. Too bad.

We happened to be there on Schnitzel Day. The map looked inviting. We had a salad beforehand which was really good. Then the disillusionment: schnitzel pre-made, dry, deep-fried, breading pressed on. I ate the fries because I was hungry. The mushrooms with onions and bacon were really cold. I didn't want anything packed. When asked if it was okay, I answered with a description. My dish wasn't included on the bill, that was okay. Wouldn't go there again.

We had Pizza Simon with crab and fresh salmon and arugula. As well as a Pizza Andreas with potatoes, onions and creme fraiche Very large specimens, richly topped and very tasty. A group of dishes is offered on the weekly menu every day. All You Can Eat Ribs on Thursdays.

A little more light at the table would be nice.

Unfortunately we have to report that our last visit to the restaurant did not meet our expectations. The food served did not meet usual standards in several aspects. In particular, the meat was not sufficiently cooked, which significantly affected our enjoyment. Even though we paid full price, the quality did not match our previous experience. Since we have enjoyed visiting the restaurant so far, we regret this development, but will refrain from further visits.

Very large pizza for lunch, it was delicious

It used to be better, the waiter didn't even look at you when you ordered, beer without a crown, food medium. The ambience inside is ok, outside it is no longer possible, loveless and uncomfortable. We won't be coming back for a while.

Very nice restaurant with consistently warm food. It's very comfortable to sit inside and outside and the food is amazing, no matter what we've tried so far. But the portions are much too big for us, a senior plate a little smaller wouldn't be bad... In any case, we'll still be guests more often as long as we're visiting Essen.

I was very annoyed by the way I was treated there. When I asked the waiter before ordering whether the lunch dishes, specifically shown on the menu (pizza €12.50, pasta €11.50, etc.), were all reduced, the answer was yes. When paying, his statement only referred to the pizza. I then paid the regular price of €18.90 for the Spaghetti Aglio Olio pasta and my friend paid €12.50 for his pizza. The waiter's argument: 'For 10 years the reduced price has only applied to the pizza and not to the other dishes in the separate section of the regular menu!'

A restaurant that you can recommend without reservations. The service is really good and friendly. The portions are large, so you won't be hungry at the end. The atmosphere is cozy and there is plenty of space for all guests inside and out. I give it five stars 👍

We were able to celebrate our “dream wedding” at the 12 Apostles in September 2023. It was just a dream, with the best weather on top of it. Even then, the boss was so flexible and moved us to the park because it would have been too hot in the sun. From planning to implementation, simply perfect. The food was delicious and to the point. Our guests praised the 12 Apostle team, the service was great, very attentive and quick. If we were to get married again, we would do it here again 😍 Thanks for everything ❤️

No repeat for us. Charging 10 euros just for a small child for a handful of pasta without everything is already borderline, even if it is offered that way on the menu. Apart from that, the service wasn't very friendly, was it because of the stress? Maybe it's better outside in summer.

Huge selection, with something on the menu for every taste.

We celebrated our wedding at 12 Apostles in October 2024. From the first meeting for the viewing to the last moment of the party, everything was perfect. Communication always great. Meri always responded within minutes and even answered annoying bride control questions calmly 😁 All of our guests have raved about the service and food. Everything was to our complete satisfaction! 10/10!!

Very nice restaurant located directly on the Ruhr. The food was very tasty, but the waiting time for it was relatively long, which is understandable on a sunny Sunday. The Schnitzel Wiener Style and Calamari Fritti are two dishes that I can highly recommend! I'd love to come back!

Everything here feels like an “all-round worry-free package”. We celebrated our wedding at the end of May in the beautiful event barn. We also received tips for the wedding and the process. The entire team is very professional and extremely friendly. The quality of the food is sensational and even better than in the restaurant, where we have often eaten. We discussed a new vegetarian dish that we thought was great with a recipe in advance and the chef implemented it very flexibly. Everything was beautifully presented and there was always someone there, be it for food, drinks or organizational questions. Every wish was fulfilled immediately. We would always choose the 12 Apostles. We have never been treated as fairly as here. Both with the postponements due to the pandemic and with things like “fork money” or covers. The offer is honest and there is no “small print” to be careful about. Everything was taken care of, from the parking lot attendant to the cutting of the wedding cake. There was also a red carpet as a surprise. Everyone was just thrilled and the team made the day very relaxed. We wish the entire team all the best for the future, keep it up :)

Visited the 12 Apostles for the first time last week. We were quite happy with the dishes, but unfortunately I can't say the same. I ordered the Judas pizza and was really looking forward to the ingredients: paprika and hot peppers. When the pizza arrived I could hardly believe my eyes. The peppers were barely visible and the peppers were only cut four times, so no more than 2cm. That's not a pizza topping!!!!!!!!!! I'll get the Judas pizza again next time and hope that it looks different than the one I had.

We celebrated our wedding in October 2023 at the 12 Apostles restaurant and couldn't be happier with our choice. The support from the team was excellent from start to finish. They were always attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly. The food was simply fantastic - our guests are still raving about the delicious dishes and the variety on offer. We also found the price-performance ratio to be very fair, especially given the high quality of the food and service. We would highly recommend 12 Apostles to anyone planning a special event!

We went to a wedding in the “Scheune”, the large hall, a beautiful location. The service was incomparable, someone was always there straight away if you even thought you needed something 😀 Plus everyone was super friendly and nice. The food was also very, very good, a great selection and everything tasted great. We would be happy to eat and celebrate here again if we have the opportunity.

We went there for the first time based on a recommendation. I can't rate the outside area because we reserved inside. But that was all fine. Large selection of all kinds of dishes. Get full. you always. It's a shame there were only 12 pizzas. But that was probably the concept of the restaurant 😉

21-9-'24 we arrived at 5.55 pm, after 5 minutes our beer was on the table, at 6.10 pm the order was taken. After half an hour we had not heard anything, tables around us did receive their orders on time. Our 'waiter' didn't understand, he had actually placed the order. Later we asked again where our food was, but the same response. Only at 7.15 pm did the waiter inquire and tell us that we were getting impatient. The chef came and tried to apologize. We each received a free beer at our request. Our food was on the table within 8 minutes, unfortunately my partner had cordonbleu with cold fries and I had spareribs that were no longer tasty due to overheating. Never had such a disappointing meal in a restaurant before.

Such a beautiful place, but unfortunately careless and profit-oriented management. Terrace with ugly seating and garden tents. Some of the waiters speak German poorly and therefore seem a bit unfriendly. Unfortunately our food (salad and steak) wasn't good. Meat tough and salad not fresh and crunchy. It's a real shame, otherwise we would like to come with our bikes more often. But after the disappointment, never again.

Nice ambience. The food is good and the portions are generous. In summer the beer garden is really nice.

Super nice atmosphere, the food is varied, including the daily specials, and the service is quick. There is one point deducted for the service, because depending on who you talk to, the staff can sometimes be a bit "short" and you will sometimes get snippy answers and sayings and before you can say something or ask, they are gone already gone again.

Always nice here! Both the weekly offers and à la carte are a delight for the palate. The service has never disappointed and you always go home in a better mood. Location and ambience is unbeatable.

I came to the location through a friend. It's very big. Outdoors as well as indoors. All in all, well divided. When we were there there was a lot of service staff, which was really quick. Friendliness can be improved but ok. It was very busy... the location is very nice, you can take a nice walk by the water afterwards. Parking was a bit of a juggle but doable. I had a risotto with fresh vegetables and I have to say it was very tasty. Usually such dishes are poorly seasoned and taste boring. But it definitely wasn't. The portions are also very generous. The atmosphere is a bit too busy and too big for me, but that's just my personal taste. Sitting outside was very nice and all in all I can absolutely recommend it.

Our wedding at 12Apostel was an absolute dream! As soon as we were able to experience the location as guests at other weddings, we knew that it would be perfect for us. And our expectations were actually exceeded. The backdrop for our free wedding and the subsequent celebration was simply breathtaking. From the first contact to the last dance we felt completely comfortable. The entire team - from the cleaners to the kitchen crew to the service staff and the owners - was incredibly warm and professional. There just didn't seem to be a "no" answer. Every wish was read from our lips. The food was another highlight. The selection was great, the quality was outstanding and the presentation was simply top. Our guests were thrilled and still rave highly about both the location and the food. The service was impeccable - no one had to wait for a drink, and the friendliness of the staff contributed significantly to the relaxed atmosphere. We couldn't be happier with our choice. The 12Apostles made our wedding an unforgettable day and we are eternally grateful for that.

Were there to celebrate a wedding. Although there were two other celebration parties there at the same time, we were well isolated from each other and were able to keep to ourselves. The combination with the outdoor area was well used and also invited people to relax between the celebrations. The staff was very friendly and tried to fulfill all guests' wishes. Around midnight there was pizza from the built-in pizza oven on site!

Es dauerte bis ein Kellner kam obwohl wenig Gäste an den Tischen saßen. Wir winkten dann einen Kellner um zu bestellen. Nicht gerade freundlich. 3 Bier bestellt und er brachte 3 große Bier. Die haben wir nicht bestellt. Kellner sagte: draußen gibt nur große. Ich sagte das stimmt nicht komme öfter hierhin und habe immer Kleine bekomme. Ich fahre mit dem Auto sagte ich, ihn interessierte es nicht. An anderen Tiscgen standen kleine Biere. Wir bestellten auch was zu essen obwohl ich fest stellte, dass die Preise nun höher als vor 4 Wochen waren. Das Essen war ok, obwohl ich früher auf meiner Backkartoffel mehr Hähnchenfleisch hat. Vorläufig werde ich dieses Lokal nicht mehr versuchen und die Freunde die ich dorthin geführt habe auch nicht. Wenn der Gast zu last wird!

Great location, friendly service, food large and tasty

I was allowed to hold the ceremony during a wedding on the green area to the right of the main building, so I can only judge the ambience - but I was more than thrilled with it. I particularly liked that there was sufficient and visually appealing sun protection and that the children could play safely on the large lawn. Highly recommended!

Food and beer good. The server was grumpy and said we ordered the wrong food because we were not German. We had two locals with us that ordered for us.

Our wedding location was simply perfect – the ideal place for our big day! My wife discovered this place over dinner three years ago and it was immediately clear that we wanted to get married here. The decision couldn't have been better. The location offered everything we wanted for a perfect wedding. The outdoor wedding ceremony on the meadow under the pavilion was simply fantastic and made our day unforgettable. The food was a real highlight! There was a large selection, so there was something for every guest, and everything tasted perfectly. Our guests still rave about the culinary delicacies. We would particularly like to emphasize the excellent service. The service staff were exceptionally attentive - empty glasses were immediately refilled and everything was cleared away promptly. We have rarely experienced such attentive service! Another big advantage of this location is that everything is there. The room is fully equipped and even the DJ only had to bring his mixer since everything else was already there. It made the organization and process much easier for us and our service providers. We would like to thank the entire team from the bottom of our hearts for this wonderful day and also for the personal wedding gift. We are already looking forward to our next meal with you and will highly recommend the location!

Five deserved points for that 12 apostles in the city of Essen. Very nicely located on the Ruhr and with an inviting beer garden. The overall package simply fits here. Very tasty food (our pizzas were really great), friendly and attentive service and, last but not least, good value for money. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.
