Dinner at the restaurant of the Gasthaus! Big portions with reasonable prices!

My wife and I went for a walk in Kandern last night and spontaneously went out to eat here. The food really tasted very good and we really liked the well-kept dining room and the friendly staff! We will definitely come back! 🙂

We stayed here overnight since one of the stages of the Westweg reaches up to Kandern. Spacious and comfortable room and the owner is really kind! We didn't have breakfast to make it faster and she cared about us!

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed - not bad! However, the price of €118 for a double room + €12 for breakfast is grossly overpriced. With the charm of the 70s, you should also pay these prices and adhere to hygienic standards. On Westweg the most overpriced room with PVC floors, bugs in the room, hanging skirting boards and minimal breakfast.

There aren’t many options to stay in Kandern, a tiny town near where Germany, France, and Switzerland meet. Visiting the boarding school I graduated from 21 years ago, my wife, seven-year-old daughter and I booked two nights in this quaint gasthouse in town. Here’s our experience. 1) Check-In: Booking online, you don’t pay until you’re physically at the gasthouse. Coming in late on a Friday, the owner left our room keys in an envelope taped to the window near the entrance. The keys are bulky, but do fit in a pocket. 2) Rooms: To fit three of us, we booked the apartment, which was two rooms and a bathroom. There’s plenty of closet space in each room, bedding, towels, and even water. A few things to note. There isn’t AC, but there’s a small fan in each room. It didn’t cool the room to my liking, but it wasn’t horrible. The restroom uses rain water to help save the planet. We’re all for that, but the water in the toilet did smell like sulfur our entire stay. The restroom doesn’t have ventilation. 3) Amenities: The rooms come with a hair dryer, a heated rack to dry clothes, etc. There’s a small breakfast for six Euros per person that comes with bread, jam, eggs, meats, cheese, yogurt, cereal, juice, and coffee. There’s parking nearby. We were given free bus tickets into Basel. 4) Service: It’s a family run business and the family lives on site so it’s easy to connect if you need anything. 5) Location: It’s in town around the corner from a popular doner kebab shop and within walking distance to the pool.

Friendly service, delicious food. Clean toilet and the soap dispenser was a small highlight. Cozy terrace, I would love to come back.

After a long hike, I was able to enjoy first the food and then a comfortable bed. The food is particularly noteworthy. I haven't had such a good salad in a long time (no ready-made dressing) The Jägerschnitzel with croquettes was also very tasty. Thank you !!!

Great restaurant and very usable guesthouse rooms. I actually chose the inn because of the funny name... and that was the right thing to do. But the food is really great, you can tell that the chef doesn't cook according to a recipe but according to his feeling... and his feeling for cooking is really great! Centrally located in the old town, nice terrace where you can dine well, everything with a friendly and committed team, I would like to come back!

There was a Mother's Day menu today, which was great. And I fell in love with all of your soups.

Lunch, good service, large and cheap portions.

Service was very friendly and quick. Drink was served quickly. The starters salad and a no attention were also served quickly and tasted good. The Schäufele with sauerkraut and potatoes should follow as the main course. The meat and cabbage were delicious. The potatoes were inedible. Partly hard and with skin. We tasted warmed up and were certainly old. When asked, I was offered fries and croquettes, which was very nice. But they refused because I wanted fresh potatoes. The dessert was again very good. Mouse Au chocolate, highly recommended. All in all, the price is around €35.

Great place to eat for a classic German experience. Great service and delicious food.

We had a lovely birthday party for my granddaughter on her 18th birthday. It was beautifully set and the menu was very tasty and tasteful. We were served very well and we all felt comfortable in the secret atmosphere. We would be happy to come back for a family reunion at any time.

I wasn't in the rooms, I'm just passing on what other guests have told me. For a brief moment I was a guest in this restaurant, it is pretty, small and homely, a little Bjoux the French would say 😉 I was told that you can eat well here, I will check this out when I get the chance.

Gutes Essen, etwas durchschnittliche Bedienung. Vielleicht war sie auch überfordert. Insgesamt war alles im grünen Bereich.

Exceptionally cozy, traditional German atmosphere. Huge portions, the traditional schnitzel is fantastic, which was one of the tastiest we've tried. Great beers and very reasonable prices. Exactly what you want out of this kind of place! Warm service and overall just a great experience for lunch!

Wir haben dort nur zu Abend gegessen. Wer auf deutsche regionale Küche steht, ist dort richtig. Sehr gutes Essen mit einem eben so guten Service.

Waren nun zum 2. mal hier Essen. Sehr lecker, kann ich nur empfehlen. Service sehr nett.

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Westweg und die Buchung für eine Nacht war ohne Probleme machbar. Das Abendessen reichlich und mega lecker. Das Zimmer nicht super modern, aber sauber und das Frühstücksbuffet mit dem ausgestattet was es braucht. Es ist ein Familienbetrieb und wir haben Respekt davor, was so ein Betrieb an Arbeit mit sich bringt. Jedes Familienmitglied eingespannt, weil nicht mehr genug Personal zu finden ist. Wir empfehlen die Adresse gerne weiter.

Der Gasthof liegt unmittelbar neben dem Westweg. Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und die Betten sehr bequem. Tolles Essen, gutes Frühstück, netter Chef und nette Chefin…. was will man mehr!

Sehr gutes Essen und freundliches Personal

Letzten Monat habe ich die Westweg-Route gemacht und wählte Zur Schnecke als meine Unterkunft für 1 Nacht. Obwohl ich sehr spät in der Nacht ankam, hatte der Gastgeber geduldig gewartet, um meinen Check-in zu verarbeiten. Er war nicht nur hilfsbereit und sehr höflich, sondern er bot mir auch die Möglichkeit einer warmen Mahlzeit an. Das kam unerwartet und wurde von mir sehr geschätzt, denn ich war den ganzen Tag im Freien gewesen und brauchte dringend warmes Essen. Die Kürbissuppe war köstlich, die Spätzle waren wirklich lecker und ich konnte mein Schokoladendessert mit auf mein Zimmer nehmen. Ich hatte die Wohnung gemietet, da mir der Preis sehr fair erschien und ich am Ende tatsächlich 2 Nächte dort blieb. Die Wohnung hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen und obwohl es kalt war (Ende Oktober) und ich die schöne Terrasse nicht genießen konnte, konnte ich mir vorstellen, dass es ein toller Ort wäre, um im Sommer eine schöne Tasse Kaffee zu genießen... Das Frühstück war fantastisch und reichhaltig und das ganze Hotel war makellos sauber! Das Reinigungspersonal säuberte  alles fleißig und das gab mir ein sehr sicheres Gefühl, besonders in diesen schwierigen Zeiten. Das Personal war zuvorkommend und freundlich und beantwortete alle meine Fragen zu Kandern (mir fehlt die Geduld, Dinge zu googeln, also frage ich einfach nach Supermärkten, Apotheken, Freizeitaktivitäten usw.). Ich konnte sofort erkennen, dass es sich um ein Familienunternehmen handelt, das aus Leidenschaft geboren wurde, denn der Service war tadellos und ich wurde sehr gut betreut! Ich empfehle diesen Ort auf jeden Fall von ganzem Herzen, denn er hat mein Wandererlebnis sehr verbessert! Ich kann es kaum erwarten, wiederzukommen und ihre herzliche Gastfreundschaft erneut zu erleben. Nochmals vielen Dank für alles!

Schön gestaltetes Restaurant, versteckt in den Gässchen von Kandern. Wenig Parkplätze. Sehr schmackhafte Küche.

Prima kamer, lang de Westweg. Warm welkom ondanks de ruhetag. Het eten hebben we niet kunnen checken, noch het ontbijt. Maar van de kamer kan je niets negatiefs melden!

Sehr leckeres Essen in rustikal- schönem Ambiente. Nur der Service dürfte weniger robust und etwas zugewandter sein.

This place was one of the many stops in my road trip in Europe and I was positively surprised. Amazing interior, great atmosphere and a thousand details that make the place special from the moment you enter the building. The quality of food is exceptional and so is the quantity - fantastic value for a fair price. Craft beers are good! Fried vegetables are tasty. Very courteous staff able to speak more than two words outside of the normal. Considering the nice vibe and friendly service, we would love to visit there again!

We had a great dinner at Zur Schnecke. The menu is only in German language but our waitresses spoke English and recommended couple of dishes that they are famous for. Meat dishes were a bit salty but they worked well with fresh noodle that came with the dish. They served a special bread with wonderful creamy cheese/ herb/ fresh red pepper spread. Meat dish was served with great bowl of salad with pickled vegetables that complimented each ingredient.

Sehr leckeres und gutes Essen. Es gibt eine schön abwechslungsreiche Karte. Es ist eine sehr freundlich geführte Gastwirtschaft. Ich kann sie sehr empfehlen. Jederzeit wieder.
