Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the old brickyard restaurant. It's a complete mass-production operation, which wouldn't be so bad if the service staff were friendly. The woman who served us repeatedly invoked her 24 years of experience, trying to cover up her mistakes. This didn't work at all. Our orders were repeatedly ignored, despite being repeated several times. In the end, everyone else was to blame, but not the server. Then she added comments like, "If you can't order correctly, that's not my problem." The entire table had taken the order. When I asked for a receipt and an invoice, not just a receipt, she became quite rude and said that what I had written in my email was my problem and she didn't care. She had 24 years of experience, and I was too stupid to read my emails. So I only received a receipt. I would get the invoice from the office. When I tried to enter my details, I was simply told that it wasn't her responsibility and that I should take care of it myself. The service is really not the best, the food is okay. Not only were orders forgotten, but even after asking several times, no one came to take orders.

A German-style trattoria, well-kept and pleasant. Surprisingly, there's a bit of background noise in the restaurant. You can tell people feel comfortable. The same dishes are served as in other restaurants in Stuttgart. I love snitzels, and they're well-made here. The spatzels are also excellent. The food is plentiful, and self-service salads are included. Worth a stop.

Delicious food with a salad bar and self-service soups. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Despite approximately 100 other guests, 25 meals were served simultaneously.

The food was rather bland overall, and the fries could have used a few more minutes. However, the meat was incredibly tender. It's more of a place for retirees, and the decor is cozy and rustic. The prices are reasonable. The service was a bit rushed, but it was busy that evening. The restrooms are clean. All in all, it's showing its age. There's plenty of parking available.

I was at a 60th birthday party. The buffet food was fresh and delicious. The service, especially Kristina, was very attentive and took care of all the guests, checking if they needed anything. The staff were also very friendly. We're also frequent customers who eat there regularly. The value for money is excellent. That's probably why the restaurant is almost always full.

A typical sports bar. We had Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) with salad and creamed mushrooms with bread dumplings. The taste could have been better. The salad from the buffet was very good. Portions were large, prices reasonable. Staff friendly. It was busy.

We've been here many times and have always had good experiences with the service – for example, it was never a problem to order the children's meal (fish fingers and fries) as an adult portion for the happily paid, albeit hefty, price of €15 (plus salad, almost €20)! Today that wasn't possible – for whatever reason (unfriendly manager), especially since the fish dish I actually wanted (salmon) was sold out and I'm a pescatarian – never mind! So I just ordered Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) for considerably less money – let's just say: Mr. Radim isn't exactly a good host or businessman! Nevertheless, the food was delicious as always, despite the inconvenience.

We've eaten here several times and have always been very satisfied. We'll continue to come here in the future because the food simply tastes so good. June 19, 2025

We feel ripped off... On the menu, and also on the online menu, all pork and turkey dishes are advertised as a special offer on Wednesdays for €16.90. When we paid, it was €23. There's a notice at the entrance saying this is for 12 people, but what exactly does that mean? 12 people in a group? 12 people on one day? In any case, we weren't informed of this when we ordered. In our opinion, it's a clear rip-off.

A truly great Swabian restaurant! The food was outstanding – fresh, generous portions, and deliciously prepared. The spaetzle and roast beef were particularly excellent. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with a lovely terrace and plenty of space for families. The service was friendly, attentive, and well-organized despite the full house. You can tell the heart and soul of the place. The value for money is absolutely spot on – really fair for the quality and quantity. We felt completely at home and would love to come back. Always a pleasure and great ambience

So, one of those bars you don't want to go to. Most of it's frozen food...high prices, bad food. The staff are unfriendly, should have been working in garbage collection. Oh no, you have to work there... Noooo, never again!!!!!

The two of us ate there. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant was full, but after a short wait, we still managed to get a table. There was a salad buffet right away, with very tasty salads. Highly recommended; it was almost enough. And just to be complete, there was also a soup on the menu, which we didn't try. The food was good, home-style fare without any frills, as advertised. The main course was quite generous (if that's not enough for you, you can still help yourself to the salad), and the taste was, as expected, very good. The ambiance is appropriately designed, i.e., very pleasantly rustic, as the name suggests. There were, however, two blunders that cost us a star. First, the pilsner glass was freshly out of the dishwasher and still warm. That's simply unacceptable with an otherwise great cold drink. Second, my wife's menu included a dessert, but it arrived much too late. We had to wait about 60 minutes after asking twice. In conclusion, I would say that it is a full recommendation and the price/performance ratio is absolutely right.

Unfortunately, I had reserved seats for adults and children in advance by phone, but when we got to the restaurant, we were given seats at two beer benches. Unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy our meal in peace because the children fell off the beer benches while eating because they couldn't be pushed properly to the table. When we told the waitress that we needed chairs for the children, she said it wasn't possible. Unfortunately, there were many tables with empty chairs...

Update from Summer 2025: We were there again for lunch, and this time I discovered that they no longer serve small non-alcoholic drinks, except for water, at least 0.4 liters for €4.50. Too much for children. Alcoholic drinks are available in smaller quantities and are also cheaper, not very family-friendly. I also experienced unfriendly service, a tall man in a white shirt. We hope every time we visit that we aren't served by him. We were lucky this time. Other guests were less fortunate; he was so unfriendly that the guest got up and left. Our server also unfortunately had to admit that this colleague was unfriendly.

The menu is extensive and varied. Mainly Swabian cuisine. You can help yourself to salad from the salad bar. The value for money is very good. The quality of the food is good. At first I thought, okay... but when the food arrived, when I saw the prices, and when I saw the huge terrace outside! It can only get 5 stars! So delicious! Huge! A bit busy! But it's worth it! Amazing! I can only recommend it.

Top food, service and ambience can be improved

This place is a paradise for the old-fashioned. My first glimpse of the place was of endless groups of elderly people poring over their traditional meat dishes. The place is not for young people. None of the three daily specials is vegetarian (how backward can you be?). The menu is completely opaque; everything is just excerpts from the morning, lunch, or whatever menu. You don't know exactly what's on offer. On top of that, the staff is very cold and reserved. Unfortunately, most of my food had to be returned because it was completely inedible (it just tasted like vegetable broth). Even the espresso afterward had a strange aftertaste. One of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. The best part was the salad buffet.

We have only positive things to report. Everything is great! One tip for outdoors: since it gets very hot on certain days, you should invest in a fan with a water spray feature.

I ate here for the first time this weekend and I was absolutely thrilled. The portions were huge (plus salad) and the food was delicious. The spaetzle was among the best I've ever had in a restaurant. The terrace is nicely shady thanks to the trees around it, and it's a pleasant place to sit. My only criticism, in my opinion, is the playground next to the terrace. It desperately needs an overhaul or be removed entirely, but unfortunately, it's not very nice or safe for small children.

Selten so schlecht gegessen. Ich hatte ein Kalbsschnitzel mit Käse, Spagetti und Tomaten = Spagetti offensichtlich aus der Dose oder das x - mal aufgewärmt - Kalbsschnitzel war ein überdimensionierter, lappriger, unansehnlich und unapoetitlich schmeckenderer Fleischberg. Meine Frau hatte Kalbsschnitzel paniert mit Spätzle und Sauce. Die Kalbsschnitzel waren wieder überdimensioniert und läpprig - von wegen schön knusprig gebraten. Alles in allem haben wir gegessen und uns gefühlt al wären wir in einer schlechten Kantine.

I've rarely eaten so badly. I had a veal schnitzel with cheese, spaghetti, and tomatoes = spaghetti obviously from a can or reheated the umpteenth time - the veal schnitzel was an oversized, flabby, unsightly, and unappealing mountain of meat. My wife had breaded veal schnitzel with spaetzle and sauce. The veal schnitzel was again oversized and flabby - so much for being crispy and fried. All in all, we ate and felt like we were in a bad cafeteria.

The salad buffet is not very appealing. This can be cleaned more often. The vegetables don't particularly taste more like frozen food. The meat was ordered English and almost cooked through... During strawberry season there was no longer a strawberry cup for dessert. And asparagus was also sold out. But the service was great.

Nice staff. Beautiful rustic facility. Personally, I think it's a bit expensive, and the food tastes good, but not particularly special. I think the salad bar is great (the potato salad is highly recommended). I had the “Lothar Späth plate” for the main course and apple fritters with vanilla ice cream for dessert. As I said, both tasted good but they weren't the best German cuisine. The staff was very great!

We were in the old brickworks on weekday evenings. It was well attended but there were still enough seats. The ambience is nice. The map is more diverse than you can see online. The food came really quickly and was very tasty. You can put together your own salad from a varied buffet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Another positive thing is that there are enough parking spaces. We will definitely be happy to come back.

Last time we were there for lunch, the food was out of stock -> no problem at all. We were told to just pre-order by phone next time :) Today (my birthday), I called at 11 a.m. and pre-ordered four portions, and they said it was no problem at all and had been reserved. When I went there with my family, they said again, "Everything's sold out, nothing left." When I pointed out that I had pre-ordered, they just said they couldn't change it now. No apology, no alternative solution, nothing. Such behavior is absolutely disgusting. Thanks for the amazing birthday meal.👍🏽

Best potato salad in a restaurant!!!!!

It's nice. Home-style food. The staff is very nice. The spaetzle wasn't my thing; I found it a bit bland. The selection of salads at the self-service counter is very small. The menu is relatively clear, which speaks for itself. I love their sauces. We really enjoy going there every now and then, my son especially likes the meat there and he is very picky about it.

Very good food and friendly service. The salad bar was again very fresh and excellent. The only thing you should wear is a jacket in the restaurant, it drafts a lot, especially in the log cabin. Otherwise a wonderful restaurant with rooms for larger celebrations.

Fries way too hard. There's something about the schnitzel that you can't chew. Way too loud in there.

Rustic, very large restaurant, therefore high noise level. We ate the roast beef. Meat was of good quality and cooked to perfection. There was also very good spaetzle and salad from the buffet, which was also very tasty. We can absolutely recommend the Alte Ziegelei.

Potato salad still tastes very tasty, but it's done I can also buy schnitzel at Edeka or Rewe. Better just a schnitzel but properly.

Table reserved. Waited 25 minutes until we could get to the table. Totally overcrowded. We had never seen anything like that before. Chaotic. Volume almost unbearable. We were seated at a rickety folding table. Terrible service. What compensated us was the really good food. But whether you should come here again is questionable.
