Minority bashing at its finest. What a shame – our otherwise pleasant stay was completely ruined by the utterly unprofessional and disrespectful behavior of some regular customers and a portion of the staff. We were dining at the Deutsches Haus with a large group and hadn't been to the restaurant before. We were very polite, accommodating, and easily pleased guests, for example, when we were asked to order only five different dishes so as not to overwhelm the chef. I can accommodate that, fair enough. What is unacceptable, however, is the treatment of minorities of any kind. My colleague wears a headscarf and was simply ignored by a waitress. At first, I thought it was just a misunderstanding due to poor communication. Both on her way to the restroom and on her way out, she was met with nothing but head-shaking and extremely disapproving stares from several people at two regular tables. Unfortunately, I only noticed this as I was leaving and initially thought I'd imagined it – surely no one could be that brazen, I thought. Until my colleague outside described to me exactly what I had perceived and sensed. Had I realized earlier that my observations were correct and that she had been experiencing this all evening, I would have confronted the people involved, and we would have left the restaurant immediately. The owners can't necessarily be held responsible for their guests, but this behavior seems to be completely accepted and nothing new in the establishment and among some of the staff. I hope everyone involved reads this. It's so sad and incomprehensible that it seems to completely throw you off balance that a wonderful, respectful, intelligent person wears a headscarf and therefore simply doesn't fit into your worldview. We're not in the 1930s anymore, dear Deutsches Haus... My colleague is German, by the way, and has a degree in German studies—even though that's actually irrelevant, and there's a constitution that guarantees every person dignity, freedom of religion, and equality. It's still very ironic that such an educated, wonderful person as my colleague completely throws you off balance simply by being there. Absolutely unacceptable, which seems to be normal behavior in this restaurant. The ambiance and the food are certainly debatable. The very concise menu doesn't include a single vegetarian dish, completely incomprehensible to me, but well, you can check that beforehand. In the end, it tasted quite alright, and one of the waiters, a young man, was very friendly. I found the waitress's comment about having a "fitness plate" for women alongside all the schnitzels inappropriate. Come on, it's 2025—you can do better than that. The restaurant, even if it seems a bit old-fashioned, could be a nice, inviting place for guests from far and wide—we certainly won't be coming back and won't be recommending it. Anyone who feels so threatened by people with a different lifestyle without having exchanged a single word with them should feel free to stay in their bubble and continue to shut themselves off from reality. Perhaps a little openness would help; a visit to the city or conversations with strangers aren't so bad—I promise! I feel so sorry for all those who displayed their racism so blatantly during our visit – they certainly didn't seem happy. I wish you all the best and would be pleased if a little self-reflection and perhaps even an apology were possible. Why not give everyone a chance to show you who they really are? That would surely do the restaurant, its reputation, and everyone's peace of mind a world of good! ;-)

A truly wonderful, old-fashioned German restaurant with a simple menu, but delicious dishes prepared and served wonderfully by the family. The staff are long retired, but they still do it with great passion. And nothing is too much trouble...

Very good burgers, the service very attentive, friendly, and smart. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, it's not what it used to be years ago. The value for money just isn't there anymore; food prices have increased, certain items have been removed, and portions have been reduced by at least 20%. The beer is good, but only good; thankfully, there are plenty of good alternatives elsewhere. Make up your own mind. All the best.
