A very fine, upscale restaurant. It's furnished in a homely style. There's even more space outside under cover. The food portions are tasty and filling. The dessert selection is good. There are several toys for the little ones, including doll carriages and dolls.

We ate at the Schwarzer Bär, and it was simply outstanding! I had the baked catfish fillet with shrimp, peach, and cheese—a truly wonderful combination, perfectly balanced in flavor. The fish fillet was tender, the shrimp fresh and juicy, and the sweet peach and cheese added a special touch. The service was also very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was cozy and inviting. An all-around successful visit🥰😋

This was our second time eating here, and the overall experience was excellent. The food is prepared with love and tastes delicious. One small thing bothered me a bit, though. To have the food I didn't finish packed, I had to pay a €1.50 "packaging fee," which I wasn't informed about beforehand. It's a shame I had to leave such a good restaurant with this final impression. I see potential for improvement! Nevertheless, I'm happy to give it 5 stars.

We love it. When it comes to fish, the menu is eaten from top to bottom on vacation; it can't be fresher than that. The menu itself, or rather the dishes listed there, are always phenomenal. The service is very attentive, and everything is impeccably prepared. You can take your fill of the view in the little back room. As the saying goes, the best place in town.

We've been going there regularly for three years when we're on vacation. The food is always excellent and well worth the price. The interior is decorated to match the ambiance and Hooksiel. Hospitality and food are top priorities for the KLOSTERMANN family. The young waiter is also very friendly and approachable, but could work on his demeanor and charisma. Unfortunately, it seemed to me that he was a bit listless and lacked interest in his work. They should learn more from this family; they love their work with heart and soul. You rarely find something like this these days. Even though the job has its demands and it's become very difficult over the years to meet or even satisfy customers' expectations. A smile always helps. A reservation is always advisable to secure a seat inside.

We were there in May and sat outside. Great atmosphere. The service was very friendly. The fish platter is highly recommended. We'll be back next year. We can definitely recommend this place.

Three kinds of veal for €28.50. The meat was very tasty, but the schnitzel was the size of a slice of bacon, with frozen vegetables and no side salad. The gurnard fillet for €26.00 was very good. 0.4 L of Coke for €5.80 and 0.5 L of beer for €6.50 are very expensive. Our dog was allowed, but water or treats (as mentioned in other reviews) were not offered. When we commented that the schnitzel was very small, they only asked if we wanted dessert. Unfortunately, there was no other response.

Whitsun Sunday... A trip to Hooksiel with the family, miserable weather, and hunger!!! 😄 This quaint, cozy-looking restaurant is located on the old (small) harbor. The ambiance is appropriately nautical, and as a guest, you can practically feel the history. The restrooms are clean, parking in front of the restaurant is rather limited, but there's a public parking lot just a few meters away (for a fee)! The service was friendly and prompt, the drinks were served quickly, and the food arrived relatively quickly. We ordered two asparagus dishes with potatoes and tilapia fillet in a sesame coating, as well as grilled pork fillet in pepper cream and croquettes. Visually elegantly presented, it tasted excellent, and the potatoes were served with a special dip with pickles. 👌🏻☺️👍🏻 In short... It was a great stay, very tasty food, and we were able to round off our trip to Hooksiel feeling full and satisfied at the "Herring Days" (fair)! Keep it up and we'll be back. 😁✌🏻

Once again in the Black Bear, once again very satisfied. With a small restriction. The lamb fillet was a little too done. But the ambience and staff are great as always. And because I didn't say anything about the meat locally, there are no points deducted. just a nice restaurant, with a cozy atmosphere. Very nice, competent staff and delicious food at fair prices.

Today we ate the fish platter for two at the Black Bear, outside in beautiful weather. Everything was just right for us: the service and food were excellent. The ambiance was also excellent; highly recommended.

We specifically asked if any of the mussels in the dish were prepared. Whether it was cooked or simmered in the same pan/pot or in the broth. The friendly waitress specifically asked, and she said no. At home, two hours later, everything came out again. Accordingly, never again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Yesterday, I spontaneously went for dinner with my brother. Everything was perfect. From the appetizer to the dessert, it was a veritable culinary experience. The chef is a true artist and a master of his craft! The service was friendly, attentive, and warm! I personally highly recommend this restaurant. [Note: Visit was outside of normal season]

We are on a tour and really wanted to eat here because my husband knew the restaurant from his youth. The Lapskaus was served quickly and was very tasty and the service was very friendly.

Service was very friendly and attentive. The Labskaus portion was good. Unfortunately, the cod was very dry. The sauce didn't help. The vegetables, however, were very soft, almost mushy, and not seasoned. This shouldn't happen in such an upscale restaurant. What a pity.

Restaurant with a special flair, located directly at the “Old Harbor” in Hooksiel. Reserved a table for two by phone. The reserved table with comfortable semi-circular sofa is very nice. The waiter very nice and polite. Another one from the old school. My dish with different types of herring was beautifully prepared. Here's a shout out to the cook. After dinner we took a tour across the street in the “Old Harbor” which rounded off our stay there.

Super recommended! We came here spontaneously. When we asked 'can we eat outside, it's such a beautiful autumn evening' we were answered 'yes, but we haven't tidied up and cleaned everything'. That was complete nonsense. Except for wiping the table, everything was perfectly prepared. The service is very good and authentic. Totally nice and goes out of his way to make the guests unforgettable. Great selection of food. The fish platter for 2 people is highly recommended. Great compilation and perfectly prepared. It remains to be hoped that this old restaurant will be preserved for a long time, that successors will be found who will maintain the standard and avoid the coming economic difficulties in the tourism industry. We will definitely come back.

The Black Bear Restaurant welcomes its guests with a positive external and internal impression. The ambience appears warm and home-style. Some of the interior seems to be getting old. Chairs and tables were ok, everything was set invitingly. The service was flexible and assigned us a suitable table without a reservation. The food was good, although the meat dishes were very tasty and warm. The fried potatoes were good but unfortunately not really warm anymore. Some of the mushrooms were not very seasoned, what didn't work at all was the hollondaise sauce, which was probably made from the package. That doesn't live up to the restaurant's standards. At this point we would like to point out that from our point of view we have just achieved 4* instead of just three. The service was attentive but sometimes felt overwhelmed, especially with children. Overall it was nice, dignified and clean. Value for money just about right.

Perfect for eating fish, we come back regularly!

First of all I would like to say that we ate well! I ordered a grape juice and a still water because I don't want a juice spritzer and then I get 1 glass with the water bottle and the juice in a jug without a glass... the waiter thought I wanted to mix... after we asked for a glass with the juice... If I order water with it, does the wine have to be drunk from the bottle??? I made a special reorder because I can't tolerate champions!!! What do you find in the salad...2 small canned mushrooms!!! On the outside of the house there is a sign from DEHOGA (German Hotel and Restaurant Association). How to get it, please google it!!! Next to it is the menu box, in it a white cloth napkin with about 225 dead mosquitoes!!! Lamps hang above the tables and need to be cleaned inside. Not to write bad about this place, but in this price range it could be cleaner, so lovingly dropped cones don't help either

Were there twice on vacation. What was positive was that the waiter changed the tablecloth every time after a guest left the restaurant. The food itself was very good, regardless of whether it was fish or meat. Definitely worth the price, and nice to see that the first room on the right when you come in still looks the same as it did 40 years ago (except that the entrance from the front of the house has been moved to the side)

This restaurant is worth a visit, the food is first class and the service is more than good. It should be mentioned here that the staff has noticeably learned and internalized the job. Close to the guest without being intrusive. We were pleasantly surprised and definitely won't be there for the last time.

When we go to the North Sea coast, we stop at the Black Bear in Hooksiel. The fish and meat dishes are excellent. The service is courteous and friendly and the atmosphere in the Friesenstube is very nice. Note: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has already been here: It's worth it!

Zum Essen kann ich nur sagen, dass es ok war. Normaler Standard. Qualität na ja… Die ausgefallenen Kreationen in der Vorspeise und in der Nachspeise haben mich nicht begeistert. Geschmacksache. Mich hat eher die Bedienung enttäuscht, ständig hatte ich den Arm im Gesicht beim auf- und abdecken und unhöflich wurde man ebenfalls von einem Auszubildenden behandelt. Außerdem halte ich nichts davon, die Auszubildenden in einem nicht zeitgemäßen Ton vor den Gästen zu korrigieren. Das geht heutzutage anders!

It was a wonderful evening at the Black Bear. I visited the restaurant with my parents. As a starter we chose Klostermann's round trip and the Frisian herring surprise. For the main course we decided on the Black Teddy fish platter and three kinds of veal. As a light accompaniment to the meal, we drank a Pinot Gris. The wine list is well thought out, it just fits. I am thrilled with the restaurant, the great food and the Klostermann family. There is a master chef working here who knows what he is doing. Service here really is service. You can immediately feel that this is a traditional, family-run restaurant. Great, we'll be back!

We had a place outside in the “beer garden” with our four-legged friends. I ordered the schnitzel, which was unfortunately greasy, tasteless mushrooms with very little sauce. My partner had fish, which was good, but the fried potatoes were very tasteless and greasy. The orders came quickly. Unfortunately, as a “younger” person you don’t have the feeling that you fit in there (from above). We also had a bad experience because a waiter stepped on our dog's right hind leg and didn't even apologize for it, instead he didn't come out as a condition, after which our dog was limping. The boss herself was “shocked” and would have accommodated us if it had been worse.

Were there for the first time today. After a long wait, the drinks were finally picked up, delivered 20 minutes later, then the food was picked up and again it was time to wait, wait and wait some more. Other guests came after us and left before us. The waiter's “excuse” was that we had a starter. In the end, we were there for a good two hours and had a very nice meal, but the service was useless and incapable of service. If you are understaffed, there would be the possibility of occupying fewer tables and showing understanding for the customers or explaining yourself properly.

Courteous, excellent service with very good food. A look inside especially invites you to linger. The outdoor area, located at the historic lock of the harbor, is also an eye-catcher. All in all a nice place to enjoy the local cuisine in the evening.
