First of all I would like to say that we ate well! I ordered a grape juice and a still water because I don't want a juice spritzer and then I get 1 glass with the water bottle and the juice in a jug without a glass... the waiter thought I wanted to mix... after we asked for a glass with the juice... If I order water with it, does the wine have to be drunk from the bottle??? I made a special reorder because I can't tolerate champions!!! What do you find in the salad...2 small canned mushrooms!!! On the outside of the house there is a sign from DEHOGA (German Hotel and Restaurant Association). How to get it, please google it!!! Next to it is the menu box, in it a white cloth napkin with about 225 dead mosquitoes!!! Lamps hang above the tables and need to be cleaned inside. Not to write bad about this place, but in this price range it could be cleaner, so lovingly dropped cones don't help either

Were there twice on vacation. What was positive was that the waiter changed the tablecloth every time after a guest left the restaurant. The food itself was very good, regardless of whether it was fish or meat. Definitely worth the price, and nice to see that the first room on the right when you come in still looks the same as it did 40 years ago (except that the entrance from the front of the house has been moved to the side)

This restaurant is worth a visit, the food is first class and the service is more than good. It should be mentioned here that the staff has noticeably learned and internalized the job. Close to the guest without being intrusive. We were pleasantly surprised and definitely won't be there for the last time.

When we go to the North Sea coast, we stop at the Black Bear in Hooksiel. The fish and meat dishes are excellent. The service is courteous and friendly and the atmosphere in the Friesenstube is very nice. Note: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has already been here: It's worth it!

Hier wird noch richtig gekocht und nicht nur erwärmt wie bei so mancher Konkurrenz. In Hooksiel mit Abstand die beste Wahl, wenn man ein Speiselokal sucht und es schmecken soll. Bedienung und Ambiente stimmen auch. Deshalb: Absolut empfehlenswert.

Zum Essen kann ich nur sagen, dass es ok war. Normaler Standard. Qualität na ja… Die ausgefallenen Kreationen in der Vorspeise und in der Nachspeise haben mich nicht begeistert. Geschmacksache. Mich hat eher die Bedienung enttäuscht, ständig hatte ich den Arm im Gesicht beim auf- und abdecken und unhöflich wurde man ebenfalls von einem Auszubildenden behandelt. Außerdem halte ich nichts davon, die Auszubildenden in einem nicht zeitgemäßen Ton vor den Gästen zu korrigieren. Das geht heutzutage anders!

It was a wonderful evening at the Black Bear. I visited the restaurant with my parents. As a starter we chose Klostermann's round trip and the Frisian herring surprise. For the main course we decided on the Black Teddy fish platter and three kinds of veal. As a light accompaniment to the meal, we drank a Pinot Gris. The wine list is well thought out, it just fits. I am thrilled with the restaurant, the great food and the Klostermann family. There is a master chef working here who knows what he is doing. Service here really is service. You can immediately feel that this is a traditional, family-run restaurant. Great, we'll be back!

We had a place outside in the “beer garden” with our four-legged friends. I ordered the schnitzel, which was unfortunately greasy, tasteless mushrooms with very little sauce. My partner had fish, which was good, but the fried potatoes were very tasteless and greasy. The orders came quickly. Unfortunately, as a “younger” person you don’t have the feeling that you fit in there (from above). We also had a bad experience because a waiter stepped on our dog's right hind leg and didn't even apologize for it, instead he didn't come out as a condition, after which our dog was limping. The boss herself was “shocked” and would have accommodated us if it had been worse.

We had dinner here and everything was great! Nice service and the fish platter for two (black teddy, I think) was great! More than enough for two people. It was the perfect end to our short vacation.

Were there for the first time today. After a long wait, the drinks were finally picked up, delivered 20 minutes later, then the food was picked up and again it was time to wait, wait and wait some more. Other guests came after us and left before us. The waiter's “excuse” was that we had a starter. In the end, we were there for a good two hours and had a very nice meal, but the service was useless and incapable of service. If you are understaffed, there would be the possibility of occupying fewer tables and showing understanding for the customers or explaining yourself properly.

Courteous, excellent service with very good food. A look inside especially invites you to linger. The outdoor area, located at the historic lock of the harbor, is also an eye-catcher. All in all a nice place to enjoy the local cuisine in the evening.

Historic, beautiful restaurant right at the old harbor in Hooksiel. There are many classic dishes here. We won a crab soup as part of the crab days at the WWHS club's Glückstadt and were able to enjoy it here. It was very creamy, flavorful and beautifully presented! The staff were friendly and helpful.

We have been to the Bären several times now and it has always been good - or very good! Next week we will be back in Hooksiel and will go out to dinner again - this time with our grandchildren. We can highly recommend the bear!

Update 07/2023: You haven't been to the best restaurant in Hooksiel yet? Then you haven't been to the Black Bear yet! We have been here twice so far in 2023 (with our dog) and each time we got a place without a reservation. The food: a fine menu that reads as well as the food tastes! Here the chef really knows his craft and doesn't just mix convenience products. Whether meat or fish, vegetarian or dessert: it simply tastes delicious, the ingredients are of high quality and the attentive service matches it, as does the price level, which is no longer lower elsewhere. So let's go! ***** An absolute recommendation if you want to eat something delicious in a rustic atmosphere.***** Tip: if the weather is good, we recommend making a reservation if you want to sit outside. …………………………… Update 07-2022: This year we were again in the Black Bear. Without a reservation, I was still warmly welcomed and seated :) As in previous years, the food was very good again. Here someone knows their craft in the kitchen (including vegan dishes). The same applies to the service. We'd love to come back any time! ________________________________ We were here for the second time in two years and it was great. We were invited to a celebration and didn't regret coming from Aurich! A lovingly furnished restaurant welcomed us with its friendly staff! From the first moment we felt at home there! The food (fish in different variations) was exactly what the house promised! We are still thrilled the next day! It's a shame that you're so far away, so unfortunately we can only come by every now and then! But that's for sure and promised!!

We had Nienburg asparagus with schnitzel and triplets as well as grilled chicken breast stuffed with prunes, broccoli and pepper-ginger risotto. Everything was very tasty and recommended. The service was extremely friendly and you immediately felt welcome and at home. It's mid-May, we were sitting outside under a pavilion and had plenty of space. After 7:00 p.m. most visitors were already in their apartments and hotels.

Unfortunately we didn't even get to order food. We made reservations in advance by phone for six adults, a toddler, a baby in a stroller and a dog. For this we were seated at a relatively small table and we were told to put our baby in the carriage in the wardrobe opposite, as it would "otherwise be a nuisance". Our 2-year-old son threw his TipToi pen on the floor out of impatience. A guest at the next table was upset about this and unfortunately didn't calm down even after several apologies. One of the waitresses probably wanted to mediate and then asked what “the devil” (our son) had done and grabbed his neck without asking. The expression and touching of our child then made us get up and want to leave. The waitress assured us that it was only meant to be nice, although we countered that there was nothing nice about such expression. We were dismissed with the words that “you can’t say anything to today’s mothers.” The bottom line is that we were disappointed and upset about this behavior because the four guests at the table next door felt like they had a larger table than us and we didn't feel very welcome.

At the beginning of May I was in the restaurant with 6 people and ordered schnitzel beans off the menu. Including myself, there were 7 of us and we were impassively enthusiastic about the dish that Mr. Klostermann had prepared for us. The chef deserves the highest praise, as does the service. Next time I will ask you to make savoy cabbage stew. Uwe Baumann

Yes. A really very good restaurant.

After we reserved a table for 13 people three months ago to celebrate my father's birthday and we couldn't choose the time, two separate tables awaited us today. To our irritated looks, the reaction was: "The tables are next to each other" and when we asked why we couldn't sit at the same table, the answer was: "They couldn't have done that in time." We then offered to push the tables together ourselves and the staff were unfriendly and inflexible. We didn't want to celebrate our 70th birthday that way and we can't recommend it.

Recommendation. Good restaurant, friendly staff, varied cuisine.

I went here for lunch with friends on the occasion of my 80th birthday. We arrived at a beautifully set table, charger plates, decorations, etc. were arranged in an exemplary manner, menu cards were laid out for each seat. The service, the menu and everything else like wines etc. were exemplary. The service staff was professional and friendly. All in all it was a real treat.

Sehr schönes Lokal, supernettes Personal und Essen.....zu reinknien! Ich habe das Labskaus gegessen... eines der Besten, welches ich bisher gegessen habe. Meine Frau hatte einen Matjesteller und war auch begeistert. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Wir hatten reserviert und bekamen einen Tisch in der sehr gemütlichen, teils mit Sofas eingerichteten Kapitänsstuv ! Ich nahm das "Oktober"-Menue. Als Vorspeise gab es ein kleines Mascarpone-Hokkaido Törtchen mit sehr gut abgeschmecktem Tomaten-Ingwer-Ragout und Rucolasalat. Das war ein guter Einstand. Es folgten Schollenfilets, die mit Muschelfleisch, Gemüse und Bernaise überbacken waren, dazu hab es Bratkartoffel und ebenso einen Apfelsahnedipp, der für mich nicht recht dazu passte. Da hätte ich mir ebenso noch ein wenig Bernaise dazu gewünscht. Beim Nachtisch war das Kirschragout sehr gut abgeschmeckt, das Hefeklößchen etwas zu fest. Der Preis für das ganze Menue völlig in Ordnung. Mein Mann nahm vorweg die "Bunte Salatvariation", die in einem großen tiefen Teller serviert wurde; reichlich und schmackhaft mit leckerem Dressing war. Das Rumpsteak war sehr gut medium gebraten, mit Grilltomate, Speckböhnchen und Kartoffelwedges angerichtet und sehr köstlich. Der Grauburgunder und zum Abschluss die Williams Birne von Prinz rundeten das leckere Essen ab.
