A very nice little restaurant with friendly service, a lovely atmosphere, and great little decorative touches. I would have gladly given it four stars, but the reason for three is... We were tourists and spontaneously decided to have fish sandwiches at the restaurant (we didn't look at the menu or the chalkboard outside). We had two herring sandwiches, one Bismarck herring sandwich, and I had one crab sandwich. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it was so expensive. Apparently, the price varies daily! Some information would have been really necessary and appropriate. The fact that it cost €12.50 really shocked me, and I wouldn't have bought it otherwise compared to the other fish sandwiches at €4.50. Especially since she kindly pointed out that there was a €0.50 surcharge for eating in the restaurant—which is fine with me. But she should have/had to/could have told me. Oh well—a less-than-ideal experience...

We had reserved a table for nine people. The first course was cold, which was a shame. Then we received a new course that was almost hot, and that was quite tasty. We were told the staff was understaffed, but it didn't matter, as we were there for a short break and probably won't be back. Perhaps another time with more staff, the restaurant isn't bad; the decor is nice. I hope you have better luck and give it a try.

I spontaneously dropped by the restaurant on a Saturday evening. The Light Festival was also taking place at Hooksiel Harbor, and the restaurant was extremely busy. Nevertheless, I had to wait and after about 15 minutes, I got a small table, which, although located in the alleyway, was still quiet. The food came quickly and was delicious! I would definitely eat here again. There were a lot of dogs in the restaurant, so they are welcome.

We wanted to have dinner today, October 17th, but unfortunately, we only got as far as the anteroom. We waited in the entrance area to be greeted. Wrong! Four people behind the counter, chatting away, completely unimpressed by potential customers. After being skillfully ignored, we left! So, unfortunately, I can't comment on the food! But that's not how you win customers these days.

Second visit, this time for dinner. I had hunter's schnitzel with fries that were probably frozen, but very tasty. The schnitzel was tender and the sauce delicious. I also had bacon beans, which truly deserved their name. The waitress, in particular, was very attentive and friendly. My second recommendation in Hooksiel. Here, however, I only had the fish soup, and it was very good. Here, too, the staff were very polite and efficient.

We were there today, the day of the Festival of Lights. We had reserved a table and came with two dogs. We ate in the tea room. The ambiance is really great. It was exactly what we expected. My wife had the beef roulade and I had the kale pan. First of all, the taste was really great. It was very good. The price was also absolutely right. But unfortunately, both of our meals weren't really hot and were rather lukewarm, so it loses a point. The service was friendly, courteous, and always with a smile. Unfortunately, we lose a point because there was no discernible structure at all. There were five people serving us, and we were asked three times if we had already ordered. I recommend clearly assigning tables here. People who order fish sandwiches have to order at the front counter. Especially on days like today, this area is very crowded. The waiters then have to squeeze through with drinks and food, which costs time and stress. Not everyone immediately steps aside. Nevertheless, the ladies always had a friendly smile on their faces, even though they were probably rightfully annoyed. Good restaurant, with a few areas for improvement. But who's perfect? ​​☺️

Good traditional fish restaurant

I like to give 5 stars, but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. This restaurant is a pure tourist rip-off, but it pretends to be local. I came especially after the season; less than 25% of the tables were occupied. The service was polite, friendly, and fast. I advise against the food; you can get better or equivalent options for significantly less money. My schnitzel was tough and far from crispy breaded, but rather rubbery. The paprika and onion sauce, carelessly poured from a bucket and briefly warmed in the microwave, slapped onto the plate, reminded me of the worst cafeterias I've ever experienced. And there were at least four (4) croquettes, but they had only been in the deep fryer long enough to thaw and absorb some heat. Roasted aromas? None. The dish on the daily special was also "plain" and, in terms of taste, not a culinary experience. Then, in the tea room, they make a traditional tea. Okay, you can't go wrong, I thought, and few people will notice, but East Frisian tea doesn't contain whipped cream, but heavy cream to create the typical clouds and give it that distinctive flavor. But whipped cream is, of course, cheaper to buy. All in all, a disappointment, and the prices are on the higher end of the comparison scale.

We had an excellent meal on the evening of my birthday and had a very pleasant conversation with the hosts and waitresses. The fish sandwich at lunch is also highly recommended. 5 stars PLUS and thank you very much!

Very tasty food, great service, everything to our satisfaction, keep it up. Today we had Holstein schnitzel with a fried egg and a hunter-style schnitzel, both very large portions and freshly fried, a compliment to the kitchen, keep it up, we'll be happy to come back.

Next time you visit a restaurant, it's better to read the bad reviews first. We were very disappointed with the food. They'd run out of ingredients for the dish I originally wanted to order (potato pancake batter) the day before. We decided to stay anyway, and I ordered a different dish. This one was unseasoned, rather dry, and served without any sauce. The extra portion of mayonnaise I ordered was just a teaspoonful, enough for five fries. So I ended up ordering a portion of sauce (which arrived in sufficient quantity, served in a gravy boat). The dessert (Frisian-style tiramisu) tasted like alcohol. Unfortunately, the value for money isn't right here at all. Definitely not recommended.

There were eight of us (four couples) at the "Alte Schneiderei" on a Saturday evening. It was a wonderful evening, the food was excellent, and our server was very friendly. At the end of the meal, we were treated to a shot of schnapps on the house. Sorry again for the broken candlestick.

We've eaten here several times. The plaice fillet and the fish platter for two were excellent. The service varied. One time it was very prompt, another time it took a while for the drinks to arrive, even though it was quiet. However, we always received friendly service.

We went to "The Old Tailor's" for lunch. The service was very friendly, pleasant, polite, and quick. We had one plaice fillet "Finkenwerder style," two fish pans "Old Tailor," and for dessert, we had waffles with powdered sugar and one waffle with hot cherries. Everything was absolutely delicious. We'd happily return.

The food and service were impeccable. The prices were reasonable for the restaurant's location and the portion sizes. The only downside was that the noise level was a bit like that of a youth hostel, given how crowded it was.

The food is absolutely recommendable. The excellent cuisine has been very well-known and popular here for years. It's all the more sad that the service can't keep up. This isn't due to any one person, but rather to the fact that there are simply so few of them, who are then hopelessly overwhelmed. On top of that, often only one server has to take care of both the inside and outside areas. And the routes to the kitchen are too long. The newer tea room has a similar problem. It's not easy being a guest here. If you enter through the main entrance, as indicated outside, and take a seat at one of the empty tables, you'll be asked if you have a reservation or at least let the front desk know. We sat at a table that didn't have a reservation sign. No table did. We were then informed that we were only allowed to sit there for one hour. That's actually not a problem for a waffle. After 15 minutes, another employee came to take our order. We then asked for the waffle menu. But it's probably stapled to the entrance, and we would have had to go back there. We were afraid that it wouldn't be possible within an hour, so we left. Here, too, everything was poorly organized, and there weren't enough service staff. I would also recommend the many different take-out fish sandwiches that are so prominently advertised outside. Those two poor waitresses are also responsible for that. Furthermore, the people willing to buy are blocking the very narrow entrance. There's surely a better solution. If you go out for dinner, make sure you put enough money in the parking meter to be on the safe side.

We were here on a Friday afternoon with five adults and two small children for teatime. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for our waffles and apple strudel. The dishes arrived in dribs and drabs. If they had been warm, the first orders would have been cold by the time the last one arrived. When we wanted to pay, the young lady had real trouble adding up the prices and had to ask after each sum if she had calculated correctly... Even though the ambiance is quaint and the staff generally friendly, we had the impression that there is still a lot of room for improvement in the organization. We won't be coming here again.

A quaint restaurant with a very nice décor. Friendly staff, but overwhelmed by the rain and the resulting crowd. Starter and main course were served at the same time, and cutlery was missing, so we had to ask twice for it. It's a shame, because it's actually quite nice and the staff were always apologetic, so we only deducted one 🌟.

We were there on a Wednesday lunchtime. A family of six was in front of us, followed by four retirees. The retirees were served first, and we were served last. Drinks finally arrived after almost an hour of waiting. The food arrived lukewarm after almost 1.5 hours. The staff were completely overwhelmed and disorganized. Definitely not recommended. Oh, and we also had to complain about the bill because the drinks we had paid for weren't brought as they were.

Quaint Frisian restaurant. Stylish decor and a lovely outdoor area. Paid parking is a stone's throw away. Ideal for a break on your bike ride. Delicious fish specialties. The mixed appetizer platter with herring, crab, salmon, and more on delicious black bread is top-notch! A classic teatime with it or afterward makes the visit a real highlight. Three of us ate here last night. We had reserved a table, and it was very busy. We were escorted to our table and given the menu. We also ordered our drinks. These took a full 20 minutes to arrive. Meanwhile, we had already ordered our food. It took another 50 minutes for us to get our food. There was absolute "service chaos" in the dining room, so people who arrived about 15 minutes after us received their food 10 minutes earlier than us. When we finally got our food, I realized that my shrimp in garlic sauce with rosemary potatoes was completely out of proportion (see photo). There were only four small half potatoes. I informed the server, who spontaneously commented that it was really a bit small and asked the kitchen to ask me for a second helping. This second helping took another 15 minutes, by which time the rest of the food was, of course, cold. When the waitress brought the potatoes, she snidely replied that the kitchen only ever serves a certain number of potatoes – contrary to what she had previously stated! All in all, unfortunately, the service was completely overwhelmed, and therefore my tip: It's better to serve 50 people attentively than 100 half-heartedly. Furthermore, everything wasn't particularly routine, so it's better to train the staff than to employ unqualified personnel. So, unfortunately, I don't recommend it; this visit was a complete disaster (contrary to what the other reviews suggested). What a shame.

Hi, the fried fish sandwiches to take away were far too expensive for the poor quality. A leaf of Lollo Rosso and it certainly wasn't fresh. Even if the hot fried fish was on top, it was just too soggy. There wasn't even any remoulade on it and that was €7.50 and nobody was stressed about it. The restaurant was too empty for that. I wouldn't recommend it, you could also say that it was carelessly prepared because no proper meal was eaten in the restaurant. You would be better off going to a fish stall. The chefs there are overwhelmed with a fried fish sandwich.

Not a recommendation. We waited 2:30 hours, were then forgotten, and then had to wait at least another 40 minutes. Finally, after closing time, we received a few hastily thrown-together dishes. There were seven of us: two adults, two teenagers, and three children. We were repeatedly assured that our food was on its way, and as "compensation," we were given a 10% discount voucher for our next visit... which you get after every visit anyway. (And considering the prices are still pretty steep.) Definitely not a recommendation. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

This was our first time in Hooksiel and we spontaneously went to the "Alte Schneiderei" for dinner. My husband had a prawn pan, and I had a baked potato with salmon. We were very impressed with the service and the setting. The servers were very friendly and asked how the food was, our orders arrived very quickly, and the restaurant is very nice inside. Another positive thing to note is that there are plenty of dog water bowls.

We spontaneously stopped into this restaurant to eat a fish sandwich. These are advertised on a sign outside the restaurant. A very friendly young man greeted us, and we sat down at a small table between the two dining areas. We ate a fried fish sandwich and a fish and chips sandwich, along with drinks that were served with ice cubes. Unfortunately, these were very cold, which might have been nice in warm weather, but unfortunately, it was chilly outside that day. I wish I had been asked in advance whether ice cubes were required. The food wasn't really a highlight either; it could have been better. The young man's service was, all in all, the best part of our visit. But we wouldn't go there again just because of the food.

As Bavarians, we were in Hooksiel for a burial at sea and ended up at the "Alte Schneiderei." The first "test meal" impressed us so much that we decided to hold the funeral feast there as well. All of us, I mean all of us, were absolutely thrilled with the food, the service, and the ambiance. I can highly recommend the "Alte Schneiderei" herring and the "Seemannsteller" dish – absolutely delicious! If I ever make it back to the far north, a visit to the "Alte Schneiderei" is a must. Highly recommended 😊😊

We had to wait a very long time for our apple strudel with ice cream and vanilla sauce. When we finally got our coffee and strudel, it was already cold and the ice cream was missing, but it was later delivered. We went into the restaurant to pay because, despite asking to pay, the waitress didn't come as promised. Despite all of this, the staff were very friendly and even apologized for the mishap with the apple strudel.

The food was good. Service was terrible. I couldn't order drinks because there were no wait staff. We waited outside for over 30 minutes for the bill, even though it wasn't busy. Then I went inside to pay.

We thought the food was very good, and the service was very friendly. And the history of the buildings, like the tailor shop, was also evident. Perhaps there could be a bit more.

We didn't get it for another 20 minutes. When we paid after another 10 minutes, a €2 service charge was added to our bill. Presumably because the fish sandwich was BROUGHT to us. Unfortunately, we weren't made aware of this. We could have gotten our fish sandwiches ourselves. After almost an hour, we finally made it. A very long wait for one drink and one fish sandwich. The tables weren't cleaned either. This restaurant is a complete failure for us.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to eat because there was no waiter! I tried several times to speak to someone, but they preferred to talk to colleagues rather than me as a guest! The waitress was completely rude when I asked if it was possible to order something 🤔 It's actually not worth a star at all!!! It's not even peak season yet, and this person's nerves are already frayed. I'm from the area (Sande) and I'm shocked by this evening.

I ordered fried potatoes, and it came with fries... which wasn't a problem, though. After I told the waitress that I had ordered fried potatoes, she immediately brought me another portion, which I thought was very nice. We'll definitely be back.
