Steakhaus "Bei Mario" Restaurant in Wangerland

We were on vacation in Horumersiel and ate at Mario's twice. The first time, we had pollock fillet with beans and boiled potatoes or fried potatoes, and the second time, we had a grilled pork steak, a giant skewer, pork belly, and minced steak, rice, and French fries. Both dishes (fish and grilled) came with a salad plate that you could put together yourself. Everything was delicious and freshly prepared, and the portions were very generous.

Our meal here wasn't a highlight, but it was absolutely fine. Perhaps they should offer a smaller menu, but then improve these dishes. We were certainly full! The service was okay, but not outstanding. However, after we showed a bit of friendliness, the host warmed up and was very accommodating. Unfortunately, based on many experiences on our vacation, I can imagine that some innkeepers in the Wangerland region have lost their smiles. Inflation and, unfortunately, many constantly complaining, grumpy guests. Often, incredibly badly behaved children. I wish the innkeeper all the best and hopefully many more friendly guests.

At 2:45 p.m., we were turned away because it was lunchtime. My conclusion: They no longer need to earn money.

According to the internet, they were open until 10:30 p.m., but we were turned away before 9 p.m. with the statement that the grill had already been cleaned. A pity.

We went there for dinner yesterday. The starter was a scampi skewer and the main course was rump steak. Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection! Absolutely top-notch value for the quality you get! We'll be back! :)

Once and never again. Didn't get what was advertised on the menu. Dike pan. It's supposed to be pork fillet, but it's just regular schnitzel. Kaiser vegetables from a packet.

Unfortunately not. You didn't really feel welcome. Menus and cutlery were simply handed to you, and you had to dish them out yourself. The service (I have experience in the catering industry myself) was rather taciturn. Perhaps they were just having a bad day, but as a guest, I can't help it. The food was too salty for me, and the meat a bit overcooked. The dips were good, as were the rice and fries. If you only want to eat there once, that's fine. Whether you want to eat again is up to you. It's up to you to decide for yourself whether you want to come back.

We ate there twice in April. We like to go there on vacation. Reservations are recommended. We're looking forward to visiting again in June. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and tasty.

We have never eaten as badly as we did there.

I recommend ordering the fish plate. I have never eaten such oily fish. Of course I didn't eat it either. The fries were edible. My husband's Jägerschnitzel was also okay.

Mass processing, there was no free table, we should "try" again in an hour, then something would be available. I then said please make a reservation, if we're lucky we won't wait an hour. As a thank you, after an hour we received a mini table half in the passage and half on the neighboring table. If you're full, you can say that, but trying to get people to do this after waiting an hour is very bad and shows that only the customer's money is important, the rest doesn't matter, new strangers with money come by every day. In another situation the store would definitely have gone bankrupt.

Unfortunately, we cannot fully understand the recent negative reviews. The staff was always very, very friendly and the food was very filling and tasty. We'd love to come back.

Unfortunately the quality has declined massively. All of our dishes were completely without seasoning (a little salt and pepper on the table isn't enough). The fries were also a disaster. But the absolute taste disappointment was the pepper sauce. It tasted so much like Maggi. In a steakhouse I expect a decent pepper sauce.

Had dinner there. Be sure to reserve during peak times. For some dishes there is a small salad buffet beforehand. Starter plate for €16 is not recommended, very little on it. There are few vegetarian dishes. The vegetable plate with hollandaise sauce would be delicious if it weren't for the canned mushrooms. My companion's grilled dishes were tasty.

Today we ate at Mario's for the third and last time. The quality of the food and the staff has deteriorated quite a bit. The table was reserved for 6 people with a baby in a high chair. The question of a high chair was asking a lot. In general, the staff seemed very overwhelmed and sometimes confused...But when we wanted to separate the bill and I wanted to pay with the EC card, it was completely over. An annoyed look and an unfriendly “come forward with me” finished us off. Unfortunately very unprofessional. We won't be coming back again.

Unfortunately no, unless you just want to eat a salad from the buffet. We've been here 2 or 3 times and eaten schnitzel from the lunch menu. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. Today we had the North Sea platter with different types of fish. Yup, fresh is different. The breading was anything but crispy. The chef must have forgotten that you also have to season fish. And then came the highlight, hair in the food. Unfortunately, after I asked the waiter about it, instead of an apology, he said something stupid. He always gave the impression that he always went down to the cellar to laugh and friendliness is a foreign word in service. That was definitely it for us in the future.

Meat in liquid seasoning, Cevapcici didn't taste good at all, finished goods, Ajvar was onions with ketchup, Duvev rice was tomato rice. Mass instead of class, very disappointing, can't understand the positive reviews

The staff did what they had to do, but there was still a lot of room for improvement in terms of friendliness. The place could be clean and could be renovated once or twice. The toilets were dirty and very narrow. Now to the most important thing, the food... The portions were large and sufficient. Unfortunately, the meat in one dish was very dry, so that when it was cut, the fibers were torn apart and if it wasn't cut, it was no longer edible. The vegetables were little to no seasoned and the sauce was far too little. The delicious North Sea crabs were totally greasy otherwise they were edible. Food is advertised outside that is only available for lunch, but this is not mentioned on the sign.

We went on vacation to Horumersiel for the first time and ate at Mario Steakhaus and were impressed by the good portions, delicious food and inexpensive and the service was very nice..Really recommended!!!!!!!

Went here specifically for lunch. Everyone was thrilled, the lunch menu had something for everything, and the salad from the buffet was very tasty. The rump steak top, according to my daughter, better than mine 🤔😭 but it was really better The side dishes, sauce are freely selectable... Service very nice and friendly. Everyone completely satisfied if we are in the area again, we will definitely eat here again. Easy to recommend.

After my husband and I had dinner there with all of our friends in the summer of '23, and there were a few negative surprises (wrong food, my food was forgotten and then when everyone had already eaten, mine came and it was wrong!) I only went there again 24/25 on our New Year's Eve holiday for my husband's sake. We ordered and were allowed to get the salad at the salad bar. And what can I say?! It wasn't just a hair in my salad, but a whole clump of hair!!! Just disgusting! After we pointed this out to the staff, one waitress apologized and the other just came to the table, laughed and said where that came from and whether it had fallen from the sky??!! Sorry...bottom drawer! As compensation we got the second drink for free. We definitely won't go there again!

Grill plate, fish platter, schnitzel and salad were all very tasty. We can highly recommend it.

It is rather loud in the restaurant. The tables are sometimes close together. If there are six people, one person sits in the aisle. What's great is that there is a salad buffet! With plenty of choice. Unfortunately the meat in one dish was still raw and when it was cooked and returned to the table the food was almost cold. Other meat was also more tough and therefore not edible to a certain extent. The service was so far friendly.

A steakhouse that also serves delicious fish dishes! Fast, friendly service, even if four tables are suddenly occupied! Both drinks and food came quickly and the waitress kept a good eye on everything afterwards. The fish fillets were baked very hot, the fried potatoes were nice and crispy and spicy, and the tartar sauce was clearly from a tube. Point deduction in the B grade: with a fish plate with 3 different fillets, I would have liked to know which fish was in front of me - you can recognize the plaice, but the rest? In the past - before the division into smoking and non-smoking areas - with a bit of luck you could sit in the cozy fireplace room, now reserved for smokers. Instead, today you sit in the annex, the former breakfast room, a mostly cold, sober room. So please dress warmly, especially in late year. For me, however, the worst was the rough, unglazed ceramic plate on which the cutlery (steak knives for fish!) scraped around like it was on bare cement.

We reserved a table in advance, which I think you should do. The food was good. There was salad from the buffet and the plates were plentiful. Everyone was full. Unfortunately, the service wasn't that quick. You might have been able to get something for a drink there. That's why I deducted stars from the service.

I rarely write reviews but I have rarely eaten such tender and juicy steak even in well-known steakhouses! The only tiny drawback is the main road right next door, which is a bit annoying when eating outside, but you can deal with that.

We were there for lunch and were unfortunately disappointed. The schnitzels were very small and unfortunately only frozen goods and the rest of the quality also left something to be desired. Although a salad was also listed on the children's menu, only the adult salads were included in the price. Mayonnaise and ketchup cost extra. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself smells very musty.

Service was nice, unfortunately the food was a complete disaster. Meat tasted burnt, fish was half cooked, consistency was mushy, sauces were canned as was most of the salad buffet, there were almond slivers on the plate on the menu and we looked for them in vain. Plates made of hard plastic, table covered with wood-look foil, seat cushions dirty. Overall, a rather “used” atmosphere. Glasses weren't clean, the previous owner's lipstick was bad. Prices relatively low but still too expensive for what is on offer.

The meat was grilled to perfection - crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. All dishes were seasoned in a balanced manner. The service is very friendly and attentive.

It was the first restaurant we came across in Horumer Siel. Nice terrace, dogs allowed. Service was very quick even though there were only 2 people. Civilian prices. My grill plate was really good and also plentiful. My husband had fish, which was also really good. Delicious sauces, well-kept salad buffet.

We were there yesterday. It was great like every year. This year our vacation was not in Horumersiel but in Holtgast. We went there specifically. As always, we were not disappointed. The food was great and so were the prices. I have plaice Finkenwerder and my husband the grill plate. Big portion and good price. We didn't get a nightcap like we normally would, but we would always eat there again. I can only recommend it. All the employees are always very friendly. Thank you

The steaks were on point, very tasty! There was also nothing to complain about in terms of service. However, we didn't like either the Chewapchichi or the piece of pork steak on the grill. Both were extremely dry, I couldn't continue eating my piece. The waiter said that after the buttery steak it was a big contrast and a purely subjective feeling. However, my wife also found the pork steak to be much too tough. No replacement was offered. Hopefully the criticism will be taken as an opportunity to carry out a quality control again. Had dinner here with the children today. Very nice and courteous staff and really delicious food at a reasonable price. And the portions were mega!!! We would come back at any time🤗

The food is ok, but not amazing. The sauce for the chanterelle schnitzel takes some getting used to. Food prices are okay, drinks are too expensive. The ambience outside is very nice, inside it looks like an athlete's home. It just works better if you try.

We had the grill plate and a fish fillet. Both portions were served quickly (too quickly for my taste). The beef steak and the cevapcici tasted great, but the bacon and the turkey fillet would have liked to have been on the grill for a few minutes longer. Salad bar is okay and sufficient. Child-friendliness is available. You have to get your own high chair, but directions to these were included. Price performance was so well, but luckily everyone has their own taste.

I like to eat pepper steak with croquettes, it's a pleasure, my better half has a grill plate, we like to eat there, nice friendly, reasonably priced

We didn't even get a chance to eat there. We rely on a gluten-free diet and restaurants are legally obliged to at least be able to provide information. When we asked about allergens (not listed on the menu), we got a curt response from the waitress ("everything is gluten-free!") and when we asked more closely, we discovered that not everything is gluten-free after all. Then they confused gluten with lactose and just turned around and left. Even though we asked about something else, we were simply ignored. We canceled the drinks and went to another restaurant. In 16 years of a gluten-free diet and many visits to restaurants, I have never experienced anything so ignorant from a waitress!

An absolute must if you are in Horumersiel. The food is a poem. We ordered another table for 2 days later. The music in the background is outdated but otherwise we have absolutely nothing to complain about. Keep it up. ; )

We've been going here on vacation for years and have a direct comparison to (probably) last year: Prices have risen sharply. You used to be able to eat here for very little money. The restaurant now belongs to the middle to higher price range, although neither service nor ambience has improved. In addition, the salad buffet was actually always “all-you-can-eat”. At least you could easily take it again if you wanted. There is now a sign that says it's only free to go to court the first time, each subsequent time costs €5!!! Considering that the buffet is anything but rich, it's very disgraceful. Mayonnaise with the dishes costs extra, as does ketchup. It's a shame, we used to love going here

It was my wife's birthday and she wanted steak. So from Carolinensiel to Horumersiel to “Bei Mario”. She had steak with fried potatoes and onions and I had pepper cream steak. After ordering, the food arrived quickly. The food was tasty and filling. I then ate up the onions that my wife couldn't manage. When we wanted to pay, the next positive surprise came. The bill for the delicious food was not excessive. We'll be back, we won't miss it again! Thank you very much for the lovely evening.

So far we have only been outside at Mario's - inside, train station flair of the 1930s. Uncomfortable, completely outdated seating. The cutlery was simply placed on the table, WITHOUT a napkin underneath! The menu was handed to us by a younger, nice waiter. 30 seconds later the boss was at the table and wanted the order. - We're still looking - 30 seconds later he was back at the table, I asked him to come back with a show of hands. The plate that wasn't preheated was probably from Rudi's leftover ramp; it made loud noises when cutting. The poor meat was probably cut with a slicer and pounded until the desired size was reached. Cevapcici exactly 2 and thin as my little finger. 7 fries included, I counted them! It's a good thing that the mayonaise we ordered - which we were also supposed to pay for - was forgotten. Staff unfriendly and intrusive! It's a shame, we always enjoyed eating there, but it doesn't have to be!

The food is super tasty and the selection is very diverse. Unfortunately there were small difficulties with the reservation because the gentleman on the phone couldn't understand German well. Would definitely recommend making a reservation. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

A visit to a restaurant that we will remember. The service was very honest. Sentences like: "Give me the plates and I'll put them away" or "I don't know what's going on in the kitchen, I'm just chilling here" are probably considered good form here. The Mario starter plate is 100% frozen, the salad buffet is standard and loveless, and the meat in various dishes is very tough. Why the whole thing is called a steakhouse remains unclear, 80% of it is Balkan dishes. Only the apple spritzer and the beer were convincing.

Very friendly at the entrance. The service is top, we were able to choose at our leisure. Special requests were addressed immediately. We ordered 2x grill plates and a children's plate with schnitzel. Off to the salad buffet, I'm actually not a fan of it. But this dressing was by far the best thing I have tried or eaten. The complete grill plate was really good for just under 20 euros. The sanitary facilities were complete and clean. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. We ate at Mario's several times last year. Everything is still fine. Yesterday we were there again and had bad luck. We sat right by the toilet door. The smell that constantly wafted towards us from the door that was left open was fantastic... sickening. We constantly had to ask the guests to close the door. Among other things, we ordered grilled plates and pork fillet. All of the meat was dry and tough. The pork fillet was flattened to a diameter of approx. 8-10 cm before grilling. All fibers of the meat were destroyed, so that the fillet was dry and tough. The pig was killed twice. Criticism was not accepted. On the contrary, we were then ignored and no longer served. Too bad. That was our last visit.

Were there with 6 people from small to large. The food was very tasty, plentiful and very good quality. Price performance also fits and friendliness is standard here👍 If you like Balkan dishes and like to eat large portions, you will get your money's worth here. Parking behind the house is limited to about 6 parking spaces, so plan a bit of walking. We would love to come back here again.
