Terribly awful. Bruschetta...it was more like cold baked white bread with tomatoes and olive oil, no seasoning, nothing, just bad and no flavor at an exorbitant price! Hunter's schnitzel with fries for €17. Thin supermarket fries tasted of dish soap and old, rancid fat. 😵‍💫. Hunter's schnitzel sauce from a cheap packet. Honestly, I do NOT recommend it!!! It used to be one of the best restaurants, but today it's disastrous and overpriced. I'm annoyed that I didn't complain, for the sake of my daughter, who wanted to celebrate her exam with me.

Very nice people and a fantastic dessert! The minnestrone was super delicious. Unfortunately, they only had one sweet wine, which was also good, but there could be more choice. The base of my pizza was very thin and crispy, ideal; it could have been seasoned a bit more, but otherwise it was great. Sometimes it was difficult to communicate with the waiters because they had difficulty understanding and speaking German. For example, when you asked for a recommendation, they didn't understand your sentence at all and you had to fetch the head waiter. But that didn't matter at all; they were all very pleasant nonetheless. All in all, a very nice place. If I lived nearby, I would come here regularly for the dessert platter and an aperitif.

Today we quickly and easily ordered a salad, a pizza bread and a pizza capricciosa over the phone. It was delivered very quickly and well, even though we are not easy to find. Everything tasted very good. Gladly again soon.

We ate there again after a long time. Unfortunately, the pizza tasted very disappointing – especially the crust. We also had to wait about 35-40 minutes for the pizza. There are better pizzas nearby.

The staff is very friendly... but... we had to wait far too long for our food.

We ate here with three adults and two teenagers. Paid a good €140 with starters, main course and two wines. And that with a good, very good to excellent taste. Very good value for money. The pizza, lasagna and bruscetta were particularly good. Noodles were also good, but the sauce was rather medium. Wine very good, other selection of drinks also very good. There is one star deduction and only three stars for the ambience because the volume inside is significantly too high. Sitting outside is probably more worthwhile. When the restaurant was full it was definitely too loud. At the table we also had different opinions about the interior design; from the outside there was no question, it was one of the few remaining half-timbered houses in Giessen and very beautiful, also well located in the pedestrian zone.

I had dinner there one night in January. It's an Italian, but we ordered some schnitzel and they were really good and the fries were just right. In my opinion, a “schnitzel milanese” is a good test of the chef's frying skills, as are “French fries”. The meat is well done, but not a sole and the crispy breading with just the right amount of color (no oily and dark breading). There is a good selection of wine in glasses to accompany the dishes.

Huge selection, tastes very good and friendly service

Delicious food, good friendly service and gluten-free pizza and pasta! If everything outside is busy, there are sometimes longer waiting times for food.

Our favorite Italian in Giessen. You should make a reservation at lunchtime and it's best to make a reservation in the evening too. The service is loving and very attentive. No matter whether pizza, pasta, fish or rump steak => everything tastes sensationally good here. Thank you for many wonderful hours with you. Thanks to Ricca, Luca, Adriano, Angelo, Agatha and the entire team. You are world class.

Unfortunately, my companion and I weren't impressed with the food. The lunch special with the soup was reasonably priced, but the taste wasn't what you'd expect. The sauce was too runny for me. As I said, that's just my opinion.

My pasta was decent, but nothing special. The service was pretty neat.

I have been at Zum Loewen numerous times over many years. The food is always excellent. It also great that they have a good wine and grappa selection. The pasts and pizza selection is very tasty. The last time I tested several appetizers, pizza, and the classic lasagna. All was very good. The server was a bit surprised that I orders four different meals, and when I explained my mission of writing reviews about their food, he made sure that I got a bigger table. Well done! I also tried my best to try the tiramisu, which was excellent.

Go there. The lion has always been good.

Rarely have I had such a good gluten-free pizza

Unfortunately the pizza wasn't anything special, there are much better addresses in the area. The service was good and we were served quickly. However, I can't give the restaurant more than 3 stars.

Had dinner here for the Christmas party. The restaurant was well filled, the food was good, the big minus was the stressed service staff. We had to try very hard to place orders. Sometimes orders were mixed up or the wrong beer came to the table, sometimes food was brought and others at the table were already finished. It was a bit too loud to have a conversation and the atmosphere suffered as a result.

Jetzt waren wir zum zweiten mal, zum Jahresabschlussessen. 16 Personen, so zuvorkommend , so Zeitgleich zu bedienen ist ein extra Plus. Freundlich und doch nicht aufdringend. Ihr seit ein super Team und das nicht nur am 31.12..... Wir werden uns 2025 des öfteren wiedersehen, bei Euch fühlen wir uns immer wieder gut aufgehoben.

We love "the lion", I've been coming here since 1988, initially as a student at the lasagna and pizza stand in front of the house! The menu is wide-ranging; in addition to classic Italian dishes, there are additional highlights such as game dishes. First class Limoncello Spritz and wine selection, best Affogato. What stands out most, however, is the super attentive and friendly staff! Special thanks to Adriano, Ricardo, Lucca, Agatha and the others, you are amazing! Seven stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 for the staff!

Ziemlich überzogene Preise für ein Gastronomie-Erlebnis, das ich bestenfalls als mittelmäßig bezeichnen würde. Ein nettes Lächeln ist in den 5 €, die man hier für einen Softdrink bezahlt, offenbar nicht im Preis enthalten.

We hebben hier echt een topavond gehad. Vriendelijke bediening: ze weten hier hoe je gasten een fijne avond bezorgt. Hoofdgerechten:ruime porties en zeer smakelijk. Daarna konden we niet kiezen uit de lijst van heerlijke desserts. Geen enkel punt: ze maakten voor ons een bord met een selectie van de desserts. Het glaasje Limoncello-creme van het huis, was een zeer aangename afsluiting van een fijne avond uit eten. Aanrader!

Ich wurde vorgewarnt. Habe den Löwen trotzdem mal ausprobieren wollen. Dort würde der Spüler seit Jahrzehnten als Chefkoch eingesetzt sagte man mir. Nun gut! Das Ambiente ist süss fand ich. Aber sonst waren wir enttäuscht. Sogar bei den Türkischen oder Chinesischen Restaurants gibt es saubere Teller und Besteck. "Die Pasta"? lieblos auf den Teller geklatscht.Die Pizza triefte nur so von Fett.Das Dessert (ein Espresso) war ganz ok. Aber das schlechte waren die Wartezeiten. Bestellung annehmen scheint nicht so deren Stärke.Eher Lustlos und Vorwurfsvoll kam das "Prego" rüber. Also nochmal werden wir eher nicht nochmal kommen.

First of all, I have to say that the nice atmosphere doesn't suit the staff, even if they have been there for years, friendliness is a foreign word for most of them. If you don't know them, they are very unfriendly, I actually really like eating there, but the last few times it was really terrible, the food was pretty unwanted, the pasta was still hard in places, pizza was pretty tasteless, tomato sauce, not seasoned dough. Dough was still almost raw, when we asked if we liked it, we honestly said that it wasn't that good this time, but this wasn't registered at all and the waiter left with the plates. The bill was slapped on our table and the waiter disappeared, we called another waiter and said that we would like to pay separately (there were four of us). Two bills were then placed on the table. So all in all we will never enter this shop again, the unfriendliness is not bad and the quality of the food is absolutely no longer recommended. Friends we knew told us in advance that we shouldn't go because they would have gotten very sick, but I still wanted to test it myself. Very, very unfortunate. The Lion was always a good address, but well, you have to look for something new.

Pizza and pasta highly recommended

After a long time we went to Löwenessen again and it was very disappointing. Has there been a change of ownership in the meantime? In the past, you could always go there and everything was fine. This time both the service and the food were substandard. My partner had a Jägerschnitzel, which was still ok, while my spaghetti aglio e olio was subpar. The spaghetti was clearly warmed up in the microwave, that's not possible. We won't be going there again and it's a shame that this restaurant is no longer what it used to be.

Tables outside are nice, but having to fight your way to the parking lot close to one is not nice. If you then say "To the Lion" 🚗 it's stupid, but the thing about the "thunder car" of a southerner that drives through the city center with misfiring and a howling engine thundering through the city shoots everything.

A regular guest for many years. That's over now. The lion falls to its knees. There has been a clear decline in quality and quantity over the last 2-3 years. Very unfortunate!! Nowadays it's all about maximizing profits. Measure the 42cm maxi pizza for 26!!€ (pizza!) there is only 35 cm left on the plate. Circular area calculation = 31% less!! Not when invoicing!! A little research on the side: No wonder about this development, in 2021 “Zum Löwen” was founded as a GmbH & co KG. Limited partners exclusively from the areas of commercial management and investment! This heralded the decline of tradition. 👍 Addio Leone!

The only positive is the location. Otherwise, the waiter was unfriendly and inattentive, seemed very uninterested. The food tasted bad and was dry. The last time I was here.

Pizzas are great but I wish they would have had more variety. There were not enough umbrellas outside and tables in general as half the restaurant was reserved. A ton of flies came out of nowhere when our food came out so we had to move inside without any help from the waiters. Service was very slow and inattentive throughout.

A very beautiful old building, I was even more surprised when I saw that it was labeled “Italian”. Well. Getting a table was a bit difficult, but the boys tried hard, unfortunately I have to say that the rest fell a bit later. There is no criticism in terms of politeness, everything was very nice. Regarding Gabe, I also noticed that all tables had a service that my table didn't have, e.g. extra water or a starter. The food was okay, I had a carbonara, followed by a grappa on the house, nice touch. I think with a little more feeling about the ambience and service, for example, it would be perfect. It was a nice evening and I'm looking forward to repeating it.

Very nice and pleasing Italian restaurant in the city centre. They have delicious pasta and pizza. The spaghetti alla pescatora got a special place in my heart though.

If you are looking for an Italian in the Gießen area who serves perfect Italian food, you have come to the right place. From the starter to the main course to the dessert, everything is simply top. Of course there is a lot going on, but it's always worth it. Just fine.

More appearance than reality. The pizza was solid, but nothing particularly special - hence only an average rating. The service can be expanded. Played polite, but not cordial. And why do you get two pizzas at the table with a delay? This would not be explained to us, but would be handled as a matter of course. The ambience is a bit, um, well. For example, the tablecloths don't fit completely on the table. A breath of fresh air needs to come in here...

The food was quite good, except for the schnitzel, which had gristle. Prices are reasonable.

Das Essen kam schneller als die Getränke. Dementsprechend hat es auch geschmeckt. Auf die Rechnung haben wir dann auch noch ne halbe Stunde warten müssen. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Historic Italian with very good food. The furnishings are a bit outdated, which is certainly due to the old building and not everything can be redesigned and hip. One star less because it's not easy for me as a wheelchair user to reach. Toilets too narrow, no disabled toilets, even though a wheelchair toilet was listed on Maps.

Three of us were there recently. We seemed unwanted. No service for a long time, the food came before my drink. The vegetarian pasta had absolutely no taste! Pretty disappointing.

Also eins vorab: Das Essen bekommt die 5 Sterne - es hat sehr, sehr lecker geschmeckt! Der Service war angemessen ok, nur ein Kellner war besonders nett und freundlich - daher hier 4 Sterne. Das Ambiente? Naja, es ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und könnte gut mal eine schöne Renovierung bekommen - hier dann gut gemeinte 3 Sterne.

Ich habe nich nie eine Bewertung geschrieben,doch hier muss es unbedingt sein. Denn ich habe noch nie so eine dermaßen schlechte Pizza gegessen. Und die Nudeln von meiner Freundin waren sehr salzig. Wie übrigens die Preise . Nie wieder
