It was good, the service was friendly.

We've been going here for mussels every year for many years...yes, it's gotten more expensive, but why should it be less expensive??? Fewer mussels, less vegetables, less broth. Even the delicious rye bread was very dry...you can do that, but then you have to expect that customers will look elsewhere.

On November 1st, 2025, we had reserved a table for eight people at 6:30 pm and unfortunately had to wait until about 8:30 pm for our food. That was a really long time, especially since the restaurant didn't seem particularly busy. The food itself was unfortunately disappointing: The goulash soup tasted more like a mixed-up mush (like Maggi powder) with no meat in it, and the schnitzel wasn't cooked properly. Overall, the dish was neither visually nor gustatorily appealing. However, we would like to commend the service – the young woman who served us was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, we couldn't order dessert because, according to the staff, there weren't enough employees. And it would have been too much work. Overall, it was a disappointing visit, even though the service was very friendly. Perhaps next time, with a little more organization and a greater love for the food, things will go better.

We love going here, the staff is friendly, and the portions are always generous, so you'll almost always leave satisfied. The food is delicious. Some of them didn't know the drinks menu and brought the wrong things. In addition, the value for money has suffered a bit, as the portions have become smaller for the same price. Apparently, there was a price adjustment at the end of 2025, which hasn't been reflected yet. It used to be our regular haunt, but our last few visits have been a bit disappointing...

The Witch's House lives up to its name. It's tucked away almost in the middle of the pedestrian zone, just a few meters from the Buer Cathedral. We enter and find ourselves in a cozy pub atmosphere. The staff greets us very warmly and offers us a table in the back of the restaurant. The tables are tastefully decorated with a small table lamp, floral decorations, and placemats. We order the Buerer Grillplatte and the rabbit "Provence." Shortly after our orders, the waitress brought us the "small greeting from the kitchen" – a piece of baguette, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, coleslaw, peppers, and cucumber. While we nibble on this culinary greeting, we take a closer look around. We're seated by a half-timbered wall, separated from the pub atmosphere, yet still very close to it, as windows are also built into the wall. On the windowsills, among other things, are witch figurines, fitting the restaurant's name. Then comes the food. Large plates, beautifully presented food, perfectly prepared, high quality, and a taste that makes dreams come true you never knew you could have! I asked for the steaks to be served "well done," which the kitchen did very well! The herb butter on the steaks deserves a few more stars, as it was real butter. I lost one star (from the bonus stars) because I didn't have enough rösti to completely absorb the wonderfully creamy sauce. The rabbit had a topping of caramelized goat cheese and sat in a delicate mango chutney port wine sauce, with herb tagliatelle on the side. This, too, was a paradise for the palate. The prices are quite reasonable, and the portions are not too small. All in all, I'm amazed and very pleased to find such a high-quality restaurant in the heart of Gelsenkirchen!

Best value for money I've experienced in years. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was very cozy. We (two adults and a child) were there for the first and last time. The reception was friendly, our order was taken quickly, and our drinks arrived. From then on, we had to wait. After 30 minutes, we asked where the food was. After 60 minutes, the first dish arrived. After 70 minutes, the rest arrived. Finally, the fries with mayo for the child... No explanation, no apology. The couple who arrived after us had finished eating and paid by then.

We sat outside. We know the witch from visiting inside, too. Outside was okay. It was a bit of a commotion, partly because couples were constantly being asked if they were sitting alone at the four-seater or if someone else was coming. They had to keep switching back and forth. Then please create more two-seaters by the door. The free two-seater tables were on the other side, toward the back, C and A, as if they didn't belong there at all. Not very inviting. We didn't notice them until we were almost finished. A woman was talking loudly on her cell phone speaker. The food wasn't as great as it used to be, and I had heartburn that lasted until the next afternoon. All in all, it wasn't a great evening there. A shame...

Today, three of us, including a small child, spontaneously went to the Hexenhäuschen. It was very hot, we weren't very hungry, but we still wanted to share a main course because it sounded really delicious. We told the waitress this when we ordered. When the food arrived, we were only given one piece of cutlery. I politely asked for an extra fork—just one fork, no extra plate, no other special requests. To my surprise, this simple request was refused. They said sharing wasn't allowed, and if anything, you'd have to pay for an extra piece of cutlery. We ended up paying just under 30 euros, and the place is too stingy to give us AN EXTRA FORK. I absolutely don't understand. That's an easy way to scare away your guests. The food took a back seat. We've never experienced anything like this before. After several visits, this was definitely our last. And all because of such a small thing.

The Hexenhäuschen is an ancient pub in the heart of Ge-Buer. The food is freshly prepared. The menu also offers two vegetarian and two vegan dishes. Everything is appetizingly presented and tastes very, very good. Allow a little extra time – freshly prepared also means it takes a while. The service is comfortable and friendly. The only downside: a bottle of water costs over €6.00 ​​– that's really too much. Outdoor seating in the pedestrian zone – inside, a fine pub; it's worth it 😀

The portions were absolutely ok for the price of €23.90 and by no means small. Unfortunately the quality is catastrophic. Starting with the basic product. Tiny mussels (as a restaurateur you are of course dependent on what you get at the market), the broth was far from white wine cream. The white You tasted it and it was ok too. Not too much acid. There was absolutely no taste of cream at all, I was a bit for the color in it. Slightly thickened it turned out to be a partially lumpy roux. Some of the mussels were not cooked. I would like to praise the young man who took over the service after the order was placed. He was very helpful and friendly, even after we said that we really didn't like the food at all. He really did his best. Hence 3 stars for the service.

The mussels "French style" were inedible! I enjoy eating mussels very often, whether in France or Germany, but I had to leave them alone for the first time in my life. They were undercooked and served in a floury mush. I felt really sick. They couldn't get my companions down either. But the waiter was very friendly and at least offered us a coffee on the house.

Right next to the church on the shopping street in Buer you will find a restaurant with an outdoor area that at first glance appears to be a quaint little pub. Please come in, the first impression is only partially deceptive! The front area of ​​the restaurant is actually a bar area, but with a few tables where you can eat comfortably. For those who like something a little different, there is a guest room further back. There is a slightly more upscale atmosphere. There is nothing negative to say about the menu. There is something very tasty for everyone: soup, starter, salad plate, steak, poultry, fish, rabbit, lamb or pasta. You can also find desserts here if you aren't too full after the generous portion. During my visit I had the nut-crusted rabbit in grape port wine sauce. And I still have one because the portion wasn't enough for the rest of my life! So: when will we see each other there?

Unfortunately, I am no longer satisfied with the food here. This was my second time eating here this year and both times it was anything but good. The Bierkutscherschnitzel, still on the menu for years if not decades and my first choice, unfortunately doesn't retain much of its former taste. The sauce tastes very much like gravy, the fried potatoes are full of fat. The Creme Brullee is very expensive at 11 euros and there was no trace of real vanilla (black specks) and it also tasted very much like a refrigerator and the consistency doesn't have much in common with a real Creme Brullee. I was even able to make a comparison the next day (La Cucina Officina for only 7 euros), it was worlds apart. But the white sausage, which was probably only bought and heated, also tasted inedible, which leads me to conclude that it was a very bad purchase. The cheapest sausage there is?! . All in all, I think that after the change of operator there will be a lot of savings in terms of product quality, the products themselves and craftsmanship, that's how it seems to me. The Hexenhäuschen was my favorite restaurant in Buer for decades, which is why I wanted to give it another chance after the botched first visit this year and the first since the change of operator. But if it doesn't return to its old quality, I won't come back in the future. I think that's a shame, also because I really like the service staff, some of whom have been working there for as long as I can remember.

The old waitresses are no longer there either, which is a shame, although the two young men who brought us the food were also very nice and attentive. All in all the food was a disappointment for me, will not be returning.

We had dinner before the England - Slovakia match. We wanted local cuisine and it was a hit! We took the signature dish - schnitzel. Very good, nice additions, everyone was full and happy. Plus delicious cold beer 🍺. Despite the large crowd and numerous fans, the dishes were delivered after about 20 minutes, for which we are very grateful. The waitress was very nice and helpful. Nice and relaxed atmosphere... I can honestly recommend it!
