Very nice restaurant by the lake, delicious food, very friendly service, great atmosphere 👍

My partner and I often invite guests over and visit upscale restaurants in Gelsenkirchen, unfortunately sometimes including those who think they're fine dining. Last week, I called the Waldhaus restaurant to ask if their menu, including prices, was available on their website. The response I received on the phone was curt and unfriendly: I could come to the restaurant, and they would show me the menu. This completely contradicts all the positive reviews. Apparently, they don't value guests who demonstrably frequent Michelin-starred restaurants. Fine dining should be different.

We love eating there in the summer, when you can sit on the covered terrace, but be sure to reserve a table! My son is in a wheelchair, and there's a ramp on the side of the building that's easy to get up. We even meet older people with walking frames there. The only downside: there are no accessible restrooms!

Besides the truly excellent and delicious food, we especially appreciated the very attentive and friendly service. You can really see that the people here enjoy their jobs. We ended up at the Waldhaus today by chance. We really enjoyed it. The cake was delicious. The staff was very accommodating, attentive, and friendly. This wasn't our last time here, and we plan to come back for dinner sometime soon :)

Excellent rump steak, salad plates, and panna cota. A large selection of drinks. The atmosphere is great with a beautiful view. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. I highly recommend it.

The first impression of the restaurant and terrace already indicated a higher standard. A glance at the menu and prices also revealed that this wasn't the usual fare, but it should be reflected in what was offered. As a gourmet, I can assure you that I don't often, and even less often, give good reviews. In this case, I must do so emphatically. I have rarely eaten so well. Even with some very great variations. I rarely find a menu like this either. The service and customer service is also not always found in Michelin-starred restaurants. I'll give you a specific example. A guest in our group received his meal late. The apology immediately followed with a drink and salad on the house—although I wouldn't have described the delay as serious. On top of that, the chef personally apologized and asked how he could rectify the oversight. Where, please, can you find something like that these days? I miss the good "old school." I don't write my reviews on the same day either, so I can let the overall picture sink in first. In this case, a good week passed. It shouldn't have been in the heat of the moment, but rather sober. I found the tiramisu a bit disappointing – both in terms of taste and size. And at €11, it was definitely too expensive. But that should be the only downside. Nevertheless, I'll happily return to the "Waldhaus am See" at any opportunity. I'll probably skip the tiramisu, but instead feast on the main courses like a gourmet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

It's time to really gossip.😜 We got married here 25 years ago, and Mario was already by our side back then. Both our daughters' baptisms and first day of school were celebrated here, as were countless other family celebrations. Ronald (an extremely good cook) was often good for a surprise in his day. His dishes from the "old days" often appealed more to our guests than the extravagant dishes he was capable of. Unfortunately, our new home is too far away to visit here regularly, but if we're in the Ruhr area, then definitely here. We can only recommend it wholeheartedly, because the work here is done with passion.

Perfect stay. Great menu, everyone will find something delicious here, for every budget. My salad was a dream, and the steak was as requested, simply delicious and perfect. Including a delicious asparagus soup, a main course, and a chocolate mousse. There was something for every taste. Everything tasted excellent, was finely seasoned, and lovingly presented. I really enjoyed the experience of celebrating here. The waiters are very attentive! But there is one small remark about them: "when you see a person saying a toast with a raised glass, you should not approach and ask if everything is okay" Because 2 waiters approached us in 2 minutes ))

Staff talkative and attentive. Everything is well maintained and clean and well designed, including the toilets. Food (meat and side dishes) was excellent. I can say that the meat (300 grams of fillet) and the side dish (truffled tagliatelle) had that certain note in terms of taste and quality that you look for and rarely find! Also a direct hit when it comes to wine (glass of Primitivo). In contrast to some reviewers, I see my invoice amount left here. I found this to be completely appropriate for the year 2023, given what is offered here. The long journey from Aachen was worth it.

Simply great! There are a lot of meat dishes on the menu, if you like that, this is the place for you. For my part, I ate the best steak of my life, cooked to perfection, great meat. Even the rosemary potato side dish was remarkable. At the end there was a panna cotta, which I would have only expected from a very good Italian restaurant. The service was quick, the waiters were consistently friendly and can also advise you if you don't know what to do with food or drink. This wasn't my last visit!

Cutlery, furniture, and bathroom facilities are all intact and in good working order. The food selection is extensive, in my opinion. Drinks are also good. Children's/highchairs are available, dogs are allowed, and many areas are wheelchair accessible.
