We ordered soups and sausages, good quality, there were almost no tourists and the atmosphere was typical of being in the area.

Delicious food. Sausages were amazing and good with cabbage (usually, I like the potato salad, but it wasn’t so great here). Upstairs seems a bit quieter and still unique atmosphere. The staff is super friendly, although they have to work a lot and serve many tables. Well done!

We went there as a group of 4 people and when we got inside they put us at a table and before we manage to settle down they already wanted to know our order. We asked for more time and when the waitress came back and heard our choices, she said they wouldn't be enough for all and that we should rethink our options. She left before we say anything and she came back again after some time. We started saying our order and she stopped us in the middle saying it is not a good choice and that she suggests another plate. We asked her how much would it cost and she said "I don't know, we will see" and what would the plate have. She said she will come back so we can think about it without having replied to our questions. She did a long time to come back for an order, we had almost finished our drinks when she came, and she had that ironic tone in her voice when she returned asking us "Have you decided after all". Not wanting to deal with her any longer, we said that we will get what she proposed and we again asked her what will the dish have from side dishes. She walked away in a hurry saying us "We will see, don't mind...". Her behavior was very bad and she made the suggestion wanting to earn more money from us because the plate she suggested costed us +40€ in the total final bill.. The food and atmosphere of the interior were okay but the staff was very rude. I don't think we would visit this place again, only because of the behavior of the staff.

The oldest sausages in Nuremberg since 1419. A tasty indeed. We try original small one and big one, both are good - a must try. Beer are very tasty. Staff are friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is cozy and local. It is my recommendation to spend a visit here when you come to Nuremberg.

Unfortunately, our visit was rather disappointing. Despite having a reservation, we weren't greeted warmly. Our originally assigned table was simply pushed aside by a large group, and we were expected to sit very close to a door. Only after we indicated that we would prefer to leave under these circumstances were we offered a table in the conservatory – even though there were three other tables available there, which remained empty throughout our visit. On a positive note, the young waitress in the conservatory was a highlight. Although her German wasn't very good, her warm smile and friendly manner made us feel immediately at ease. The food was okay, but not so impressive that we would eat there again. Overall, this visit clearly demonstrates that a restaurant lives – or dies – by its team.

Delicious sausage at the oldest sausage restaurant in the world. Accidentally know this restaurant from Instagram and immediately put this into our Winter Trip itinerary. It turns out to be worth it. Will definitely go back here when in Nürnberg.

MIf you’re looking for a place in Nuremberg that never disappoints, Zum Guldenstern is it. This is hands-down our favorite lunch spot in the city—and for good reason. Not only is it the oldest sausage restaurant in the world, but it consistently delivers incredible food, warm hospitality, and an atmosphere that feels like stepping into living history. What made this visit especially memorable was our amazing waitress, Kris. She truly went above and beyond—waiting on us hand and foot, making thoughtful recommendations (including a few things we hadn’t tried before), and ensuring every single person at our table felt taken care of. Her suggestions were spot-on, and the food was absolutely perfect. We came as a family of five, and the portions were generous and ideal for sharing. Everyone left with full bellies, full hearts, and plenty of laughter—exactly the kind of experience you hope for when gathering around a table. Between the historic significance, the cozy and authentic ambiance, the consistently excellent food, and the outstanding service, Zum Guldenstern continues to be a place we return to again and again. If you’re in Nuremberg and want a meal that’s both delicious and meaningful, this spot is an absolute must.

I had this place marked for lunch and arrived so hungry that im so happy we got a table with no reservation. The whole restaurant is set in a house with old wooden interior, rustic and impeccable condition for the age of the building. The service was fast and kind. The food was tasty. The menu looks good. Cosy vibes. Love it 🥰

Every sausage is great! Try them all

Wow – quality truly takes center stage here. The classic grilled sausages are a real highlight: the beechwood fire gives them that unmistakable, intense flavor that's immediately noticeable. The sour sausages are also an absolute treat – by far the best I've ever eaten. What makes a visit even more special is the palpable passion of the staff. Everyone is visibly proud of their craft, happy to share what makes their business so unique, and takes you on a journey into the past. Highly recommended!

We ate there three weeks ago. I must confess, to my shame, that as a Nuremberg native, I hadn't even heard of this place, but I also have to say I didn't miss out on anything. The ambiance was really lovely, so quaint. The service was also okay. But... the price-performance ratio is absolutely unacceptable. The portion sizes are a joke. My cheese fondue came with one pretzel, which was barely enough. The fondue was served in a small pan, which, in my opinion, was more like a side dish. The other dishes were also very small (three different dishes with potato salad, 10 hash browns with sauerkraut, Obatzda), so three out of four of us left hungry. The potato salad consisted only of oil and vinegar. No onions, no pepper, no herbs, and it tasted overwhelmingly of Maggi seasoning. It had absolutely nothing to do with potato salad, from any part of Germany. The same goes for the Obatzda. It looked like it had been pureed until it was a mushy mess. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Bavarian original (if it was even homemade at all). All in all, we were really disappointed and probably won't eat there again.

An epic place, and not just because of its reputation. Unique atmosphere, very friendly staff, exceptional products. Definitely worth a try.

Extreme long waiting for the bill, terrible service

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere transports you back to the Renaissance period. The traditional décor, staff uniforms, and even the seating all add to the historic charm. The menu offers a wide range of traditional Nuremberg sausages. Vegetarian options are more limited and mainly consist of cheese- and bread-based dishes or salads. We ordered the pretzel with cheese skillet, which was very enjoyable, and the big Nuremberg sausage with potato salad. The sausage was mouthwatering and full of flavour. While the potato salad was not quite to my personal taste, the texture was good and the potatoes were well cooked. The staff were welcoming, though a little blunt at first. Overall, the service was quick and attentive. A great place to experience traditional Nuremberg cuisine in a historic setting.

Stepping inside is like stepping back in time. The restaurant is family-run by some of the kindest people you'll ever meet. They prepare food the traditional way: slow-cooked over an open fire and the taste is next level. Don't miss this place.

Great food, great atmosphere and great staff

First off: We're from Thuringia, and of course, Nuremberg sausages don't compare to real Thuringian sausages, but: This inn is fantastic! Good Franconian cuisine. A charming atmosphere, friendly service, and good food. We always appreciate restaurants that use ingredients from local producers, and that's the case here. Plus, the prices are very fair. Highly recommended, and we can't think of anything to criticize. Best regards to the owner; the sausages are really good, but: see above!

We were pleasantly surprised by the culinary experience in this place. The dishes were carefully presented and the flavors were balanced and delicious. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent meal.

The food was a culinary delight; my taste buds were doing somersaults. But the service was awful. We were crammed into the furthest corner of the restaurant, and not even in the old part, but in a sad new extension. My buddies and I were so looking forward to sitting in the cozy room, and then this happened.

We came back to this restaurant for a second time because the food was delicious during our first visit. Unfortunately, this time the experience was affected by the service. The restaurant was not crowded, but a different waitress seated us in a more isolated area, where there were no other guests, and then seemed to forget about us. We waited around 30 minutes without anyone coming to take even our drinks order. Each time we needed something, we had to ask multiple times, which was inconvenient. At one point the slow waitress came to ask if everything was OK, and I asked for some vinegar because I personally prefer my potato salad more sour. Her reaction felt dismissive, as if it was strange or unreasonable to ask for vinegar. The food is still very good, but the service during the second visit was disappointing.

The owner himself complained that I hadn't left a tip. I should point out that, as soon as I arrived, I was told to sit at a table where there were already two other people, even though there were other tables available, as it was almost closing time. There were about 40 minutes left. My daughter's request to go upstairs was denied because they're starting to #clean# in the room above. You can't welcome customers by telling them "you have to hurry up and eat because there are 40 minutes left until closing time" and then the owner is surprised that I didn't leave him a tip???!??? He should learn to treat his customers better, as they certainly prefer him. Next time, go ELSEWHERE 😊

Wow, one of the most beautiful and charming restaurants I've ever visited. It looks so lovely, and the grilled sausages are absolutely delicious. A world of difference compared to the ones you buy in the supermarket. Especially around Christmas time, the restaurant's nostalgic decor has a magical feel. A truly wonderful place, I highly recommend it!

I can't really say more than: Simply fantastic! The service was extremely friendly, attentive, and fast. Our drinks weren't even finished for two minutes before Dirk came over and asked if we needed anything. That's what I call service—you rarely find that these days. The ambiance was simply beautiful, cozy, and full of lovely little details. We were there during the Christmas season, the perfect way to end the day after visiting the Christmas market. 😍🎄🎁 It was decorated with such care! The food: So, so delicious! The cheese fondue was divine! I could eat it every day and I'm already looking forward to coming back and ordering one! The sauerkraut was perfect! 12/10!! The potato salad and coleslaw were so, so delicious. Of course, we also had Nuremberg sausages, a classic, and they simply taste the best here! Insider tip: try the Stadtwurst (city sausage)!! We had a wonderful evening! With incredibly delicious food and a great atmosphere. I highly recommend it and urge everyone to go!

One of Nuremberg's most quaint restaurants

What an incredible place! This is truly one of the coolest restaurants I've ever been to. The atmosphere is wonderfully rustic, and the building itself has a truly authentic historical charm. You really feel like you've stepped back in time, in a good way. The food is excellent, the sausages are a must-try, and the beer selection is great too. My only minor criticism would be that the red beer isn't on tap, only available in bottles. But apart from that, everything is absolutely top-notch. I would definitely come back.

We spontaneously stopped at the restaurant today, as we live very close by. Unfortunately, what we experienced there left us speechless. We didn't complain because we're certain we won't be returning. Aside from the decor and the building itself, there's nothing positive to say. The prices seem completely exorbitant. We've rarely paid so much money for carelessly prepared food in very small portions. When we pointed out that the mustard pots on the table were empty, the server simply said, "They won't be refilled today; you're the last customers." There was also a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the air. After a server came down from upstairs with an ashtray at our request, we understood why. The liver dumpling soup tasted okay and was worth the money. The sauerkraut, however, wasn't sour at all and was more reminiscent of a sweet Bavarian sauerkraut. The plate with six bratwursts, two pieces of meat, and potato salad was absolutely overpriced. We will not be visiting this restaurant again and unfortunately cannot recommend it.

Old-style restaurant with wooden tables, a warm atmosphere, and an open grill on display. The food was traditional, nicely prepared, and genuinely tasty. The horseradish and mustard on the side were particularly flavourful and complemented the dishes very well. However, I'm disappointed from the service: when we entered the restaurant, two women (likely the owners) were busy with a tablet and did not look up until one of the cooks told them to attend to us. Our waiter was rude and pushed us to place our order as quickly as possible. Needless to say, we did not leave a tip.

The world's oldest sausage restaurant Opened in 1491, this restaurant has been in business for a long time. I ordered a set of two types of sausage, meat, and a choice of potato or cabbage salad. The wheat beer is mild and easy to drink. It was around ¥4,000.

The oldest sausage grill. The sausages were absolutely delicious, as was the meat. Served on pewter plates, just like in the old days. The place is old and quaint. A young owner who still greets the guests herself. It should be on your list of things to see in Nuremberg. Even though the place was packed, everything went very quickly and smoothly. They have a really great team.

Unique atmosphere! The food is excellent! The staff is friendly and very helpful! Even though we didn't have a reservation, the girls seated us right away! Chris is the trump card of the store! A visit to the restaurant is considered a must!

Traditional German restaurant. Delicious and well-prepared regional cuisine. The restaurant is decorated in a traditional German style in a beautifully preserved house. The service is quick and friendly, with staff who make a point of understanding you even if you don't speak Spanish. We were admitted without a reservation.

Super quaint and really delicious!

My mom and I went there for lunch the other day for my birthday. The restaurant itself is beautiful, very quaint, and very cozy. The service was also top-notch. Now for the less pleasant part: as a Nuremberg native, you naturally know your bratwurst, but here they've completely lost their pride and are selling cheap, pre-cooked Hoeneß sausages from the supermarket. You can tell by their artificial casing, their shape, taste, and the fact that they're pre-cooked for preservation. The quality and value are completely out of whack, and anyone who wants to eat good, authentic Nuremberg bratwurst should definitely avoid this place. I don't think the locals are thrilled about it; let's hope the restaurant survives on tourists alone if they're serving such terrible bratwurst... crazy! A little tip: there's a good butcher on Kirchenweg...

Pure tradition at the Bratwurst Kitchen in Nuremberg 🍽️ I recently visited the Bratwurst Kitchen in Nuremberg and had a truly wonderful evening. The restaurant has a wonderfully cozy, rustic atmosphere – exactly what you'd imagine a traditional Franconian inn to be. The aroma of freshly grilled bratwurst fills the air as soon as you walk in. Of course, I tried the Nuremberg Rostbratwurst – crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. It came with sauerkraut and fresh farmhouse bread, simple but delicious. The beer was also a perfect match, nice and cold and locally brewed. The service was friendly and attentive, despite the restaurant being quite full. We celebrated a birthday here with about 50 people. The price-performance ratio is absolutely fair for the quality. A true piece of Nuremberg tradition – if you're looking for hearty Franconian cuisine in an authentic setting, this is the place to be. I'll definitely be back!

I was in Nuremberg for work, at the Mass fairs, and had a free evening. I searched online for the best German cuisine, especially in Nuremberg, and found this place. Initially, the waitress told me, when I showed up at 9 pm, that there were no tables available, but then, after insisting, she put me in with a lovely local family who was about to sit down. I had a very good meal, including meat and beer, all recommended by the waitress, and I met some very cheerful and friendly people. The place is noisy, cute, and cheerful. I paid around €30 for a dish with a side dish and a beer. Recommended 👍🏻

I went here for a meal with my Finnish colleague, who wanted "local food." What could be better than Nuremberg bratwurst? The food was delicious; we ordered potato salad (really good!), sauerkraut, and bread to go with the bratwurst. Everything was fresh and tasty! The service was very friendly and quick! I'm from Nuremberg myself, haven't been there for at least 15 years, and I have to say that's a real shame because it's a truly charming place and the food is great—I'll have to change that :-)

In my opinion, they're relying on their name and the number of tourists. We had reserved a table, but when we asked where it was, they initially only gave us the table number. After asking again, they finally agreed to show us the table. The service was okay, but at times they were overwhelmed when taking our orders, which was followed by brusque comments that we should order drinks and desserts separately. The portions were rather small for the price, so we had to have dessert. The apple strudel was unfortunately completely soggy. The main course tasted good. At 9 p.m. we were informed that they would be closing at 10 p.m. I was irritated that a friend ordered a cheese fondue that was specifically listed as vegetarian, but which was garnished with bacon cubes. As a Nuremberg native, I wouldn't come here again, but I guess the nice ambience is the deciding factor for tourists.

Stunning location and sublime cuisine; the famous Nuremberg sausages were fantastic. I had some qualms about the welcome, which was decidedly cold, almost unfriendly. While waiting for dinner, I asked for a beer to drink at the tables outside, where there were other people. The answer was yes, but you'll have to take it outside yourself. Oh well, the price was €5, and again, no complaints. When I mentioned I'd be paying by card, I was told the price was going up to €10. At that point, I mentioned I'd be dining there and wanted reassurance that I wouldn't receive the same treatment at dinner, since I only had a card. After carefully checking the reservations, with my help because she couldn't find me, she loosened up a bit and allowed me to go out for a beer, which she'd later charge, while also making sure she'd keep an eye on me with her camera. Well, what can I say? Despite everything, I'd happily go back.
