I ate this Westphalian pepper dumpling. Oh my God! About 2-3 hours later, my body completely turned upside down. I think I have the worst food poisoning I've had in a long time.

Great atmosphere and both traditional regional and national dishes such as Pfeffergotthast (a type of sausage), potato soup, pea stew, or various steaks and schnitzels. Deliciously prepared and at moderate prices. Thumbs up!

I came here on a Monday afternoon with 2 friends. Firstly, the place has a really nice aesthetic and the atmosphere easily gets 5 stars. The service was kind and professional aswell - no complaints. The food however, left a little to be desired. We all got a schnitzel and considering the slightly higher price, it wasn't quite what we were hoping for. It could have been crispier and the sauce wasn't anything special either. The chips on the other hand were perfect, very crispy, fluffy and seasoned. So all in all I can recommend this place of you're looking to dine out.

The food and service are very good; reservations are highly recommended, otherwise you may have to wait a bit. It's located in the city center without parking spaces, but there are parking garages nearby.

We visited the restaurant during the Christmas market. Despite a short wait, we were seated very quickly. The service was consistently friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, there was one negative point: the cleaning staff in the restrooms were unfriendly. The situation was particularly unpleasant because we were traveling with a baby and needed to use the changing table, which is located directly behind the cleaning counter. This made us feel like we were "in the way," which somewhat marred the otherwise positive impression. Overall, it's still a good restaurant with room for improvement in the restrooms, especially for families with children.

As long-time customers, it's a shame to say that the prices have increased quite a bit. Furthermore, the small side salad, which was actually a big hit, has been removed from the schnitzel menu and now has to be ordered separately for an extra charge. Otherwise, the food, the ambiance, and the location are very good.

We were in Dortmund for 5 days and ate here twice, and it was excellent both times. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The service was also great; orders were taken quickly and special requests were accommodated. Highly recommended! 👍

I'm reading some of the reviews and wondering if I've been to the same restaurant. The atmosphere is great, although fans of modern design might be disappointed (I'd just hide the stuffed animal heads hanging on the wall). Fortunately, the Christmas decorations attract more of my attention. The Wiener schnitzel is very tasty, the pork knuckle is tender with a perfectly seared crust. The service is very friendly. The prices are rather high, but you can live with it on occasion. I recommend it!

Yesterday, we visited the Christmas market in Dortmund and stopped at the old market for lunch. It's a wonderful, authentic restaurant with friendly patrons and incredibly attentive service from our waiter, Björn. The food was fantastic! I had liver, and... as anyone who cooks knows can be a challenge, it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Kudos to the chef! We had a lovely two hours and thank you for your hospitality. We'd love to come back next time we're in Dortmund.

We went to Am Alten Markt for the first time today and it was fantastic! We were lucky to get a table and our server, Tong, was really great. Our choices, Himmel und Ed (a mixed grill) and a mushroom cream schnitzel, were incredibly delicious. We especially loved the atmosphere with its wonderful Christmas decorations...it felt really cozy even though the restaurant was completely full. 100% recommendation from us! 😁👍

As always, everything was perfect yesterday.

We had made a reservation for six people for a Christmas party (weeks in advance). The reservation was for 6:30 PM, but we arrived at 6:15 PM. The waiter looked for the reservation, I gave him our name, and he said, "Yes, that sounds similar, that must be it." The table was still occupied. We returned at 6:25 PM and had just sat down when the waiter (manager/owner) came back and said I had given the wrong name! My name is my name. There were other people there with similar-sounding names, and this one had an online reservation. At that point, the waiter (owner/manager) asked us to leave the table. I was supposed to show him my reservation, and I told him three times that I was there in person... He wouldn't listen, he made me stand there like an idiot, and even called me a liar, saying I'd used a different name... Absolutely outrageous! I've never experienced anything like this in my life. There were six of us, and of course, we couldn't find anything else to eat on a Saturday. Thank you for this first-class service. I used to eat there every week for lunch when I was taking a break from the fertility clinic in Dortmund. We will never set foot in this place again and have already told our friends and family. We hadn't made a reservation and had to wait about 30 minutes until a table was available. But where don't you have to wait without a reservation on a Saturday evening at 6:30 pm? The staff was very friendly, and the food was excellent. We were completely satisfied.

First off, the food is fantastic! But unfortunately, it's only really suitable for walk-ins. Good German cuisine, very tasty, and good prices – no complaints there. The service in the restaurant was also excellent, but the preparation was a disaster. The restaurant is unreachable by phone for days, and emails sent via recorded message go unanswered for days. When you finally do get through to someone on the phone, they're extremely curt, and you can't make a reservation for weeks. They don't even ask for the day or time to try and help; they just brush you off with a "try it that way!" So, the restaurant is clearly mostly reserved for walk-ins. – But I showed up with six people, including a toddler, on the off-chance! Planning a meal here is practically impossible and quite off-putting. The ambiance, however, was and still is actually great. Very open and rustic, yet someone had the bright idea to ruin it all with a gigantic TV on the wall, naturally showing football. The result is now a kind of pub without the crowds, offering upscale cuisine!?!?

I sat outside on a sunny autumn day. The chairs were comfortable, and the service was good. I enjoyed the classics, salt cake and pilsner: excellent! And at a fair price.

We went there after returning from a trade show, the restaurant was full but after a 10/15 minute wait, we were able to sit down and order. The service was fast, the meal was excellent as well as being plentiful and the carafe of wine was good. A pleasant time.

We were there today for the first and last time. The service was completely overwhelmed and unprofessional. All guests who dared to wave or call for service (some of the guests I observed waited half an hour or more for their bill) were rudely scolded by the waitress. Advice to the owner: Ban this gentleman to the potato cellar. Hire more waiters or offer fewer tables.

The food order takes too long to come out, but other than that, everything was fine. However, the fact that the order takes 1-1.30 hours to arrive is a big minus for me.

The service was prompt and friendly, but the food was unfortunately only mediocre. I had the Dortmunder Kringel, which was very tasty. The side dishes, according to the menu, were fried potatoes and coleslaw. The fried potatoes were more steamed than roasted, and the coleslaw was a ready-made product from a large bucket. For the price, I had expected at least fresh coleslaw. The decor is quaint and beautiful, but the noise level was extremely high due to the many guests in a small space, the loud background music, and, to top it all off, the TV was on. The waiters running back and forth created an even more hectic atmosphere in the place, making it impossible to eat your food in peace.
