Overkamp in Dortmund

I feel compelled to offer my best opinion of Haus Overkamp after 10 years. Full marks for the exceptionally friendly and competent service. The price-performance ratio is consistently excellent. It's simply a pleasure to be pampered there with local delicacies (from appetizers and main courses to exquisite desserts and cakes), all skillfully presented. The service has always been attentive but never intrusive. Comparing this exceptionally high-end restaurant to a canteen is completely incomprehensible to me. I also notice that the parking lot is occasionally quite full. However, this only speaks to the outstanding quality and superb service. Many guests are served in several rooms, so it never feels uncomfortably crowded and has nothing to do with mass processing. Everything is wonderfully organized. No matter the size of the group, the dishes are always served almost simultaneously. This organizational feat never fails to impress me. I still give a big thumbs up to this superbly run family business, now more than ever! I always enjoy visiting the Gasthaus Overkamp, ​​where I experience warmth, quality, and genuine hospitality. I gladly give it 10 out of 5 stars 🤣♥️ and say again: "A thousand thanks!"

The geese were very good. Priced on the higher end. Service was excellent. However, at almost €13 for a 0.2-liter bottle of Primitivo, drinking wine isn't really enjoyable anymore. The simplest German red wine costs €9.95 for a 0.2-liter bottle; it's no wonder the restaurant is only serving beer and water.

Food, drinks, and service were very good. November 26, 2025. I was there with my family, and we ordered different dishes from the menu. I chose roast beef as my main course. The meat was inedible because it was incredibly tough! When I complained, I was offered a replacement portion, which I naturally declined. To top it all off, they charged me for the wrong table!

We went there for dinner with our family on Boxing Day. Five stars for the food, five stars for the service, and five stars for the premises. It was a wonderful evening. Great praise to the kitchen and the service staff.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening at Overkamp. Excellent cuisine, very high quality, and a wonderful atmosphere. The venison cordon bleu was a particular highlight – exceptionally good and prepared with great care. Highly recommended!

Overkamp Hotel & Restaurant is always our first and best choice in Dortmund. We enjoy this family-run establishment several times a year. The rooms are very clean, the mattresses are extremely comfortable, and the hotel's quiet location is very pleasant. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired; the regional produce and various organic products are particularly noteworthy. I highly recommend the braised ox cheeks, and much more besides. The staff is always very friendly, and if you have a special request, it will be fulfilled. We enjoy walks in the surrounding countryside every day. I've been getting my Christmas goose here for several years now. It's always delicious and makes my life easier. The prices are reasonable. The service is friendly, even when the queue stretches all the way to the Kamener Kreuz (it feels like it). I'll gladly come back every year.

Unfortunately, it's not what it used to be. Due to the growth of recent years, the charm of the former country inn has completely disappeared for me. Now it feels more like a canteen or a large hotel in southern climes. The parking lot is already bursting at the seams during the week, and people who park inconsiderately everywhere can do so day in and day out without consequences. The ubiquitous advertising is also extremely annoying. Does a business like this really need so much advertising? I highly doubt it. Even looking at their Instagram posts puts me off my food. For me, it has nothing to do with enjoyment and hospitality anymore; it's all geared more towards commerce and mass appeal. The food itself is still of excellent quality, but the prices are, in my opinion, quite high. The vegetarian and vegan options, in particular, are extremely limited. Or simply nonexistent. I will completely avoid this restaurant in the future, as there are many other excellent alternatives nearby that understand that size isn't everything.

We had our company Christmas party here yesterday. It was fantastic. The goose dinner was absolutely delicious. With red cabbage and dumplings, it was simply superb. I've never eaten such a delicious goose. The service was very friendly and efficient. Thank you to the entire team. It was well worth it.

We've been there twice recently and found the atmosphere very unpleasant. Unfortunately, the goose this time didn't live up to previous visits and tasted rather stale. The red cabbage was also pale and mushy. Overall, the meal was disappointing. The service and the cake, however, were very good.

I went there for goose dinner and had a lovely and delicious evening in a wonderful atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly, and we all received our food at the same time...which isn't always the case, as it was very busy. A big thank you to all the staff, especially the kitchen. This year's goose dinner was rather mediocre. Nothing special for the price. The gravy was too salty, the dumplings not as fluffy as they used to be. The baked apple was okay. The drink prices were too high. €9.95 for a glass of wine was outrageous. The long drink had more ice than alcohol. Anyone paying €45 for a goose dinner expects complete satisfaction. I wasn't. It's a shame; we'll go to the competition across the street next year.

My visit was prompted by a dinner invitation. The menu was extensive, including game dishes – very well done, generous portions, and very tasty. Prices were on the higher side, but justified. A traditional establishment with a lovely atmosphere, plenty of rooms, and quite popular. Excellent parking facilities with numerous electric vehicle charging stations!

The food is excellent. The place is always packed – and with good reason. Overall, it's a bit too big and hectic for my taste, but I'll gladly come back for the food...

A Dortmund tradition. Superb service, superb food, and a great atmosphere!

We recently ate at Overkamp for the first time and were unfortunately rather disappointed. I ordered a Wiener Schnitzel and asked the waitress beforehand if it would be prepared nicely puffed up (i.e., light and fluffy). She confirmed that it would be, but the schnitzel was quite the opposite – the taste was fine, but the breading had collapsed. When I honestly pointed this out, the waitress simply said, "Well, the cooks will have to blow on it better next time" – a remark I found quite inappropriate in this context. Furthermore, my companion was served a portion of mayonnaise without being asked. Since we thought it was included in the dish, I also asked for a small portion. Only at home did we notice that both portions were charged on the bill – this doesn't seem quite right to me. The side dishes (fried potatoes and fries) were excessively salty, which we immediately pointed out. The waitress tasted them herself and confirmed that they were indeed too salty. She then offered us each a complimentary drink as compensation – that was at least a nice gesture. When I went to look at the menu to choose a drink myself, the waitress beat me to it and quickly said she already knew what she could "have made" for me. I said I'd like something like a mojito. Instead, I was served a small glass of very sweet apple spritzer with a few mint leaves in it. When she brought us the bill later, she asked if I had enjoyed the drink. I answered honestly that it was far too sweet and not to my taste. Her only response was: "Well, tastes differ." Overall, the service was attentive, but unfortunately unprofessional and at times inappropriate. A shame – I would have expected significantly more care and sensitivity from a restaurant with this reputation.

This was my third time eating at the restaurant. The service was excellent, as was the ambiance. This time I had the pork tenderloin tips – simply delicious.

Das Hotel und Restaurant Overkamp ist ein hervorragendes 🏠 Haus im Dortmunder Süden das seit über 300 Jahren exestiert und immer noch im Familienbesitz ist. Hier kann man wirklich sehr gut essen denn die Speisekarte hat für jeden Geldbeutel etwas zu bieten, und das Ambiente in diesem Haus, einfach nur traumhaft. Also Leute fahrt einfach mal hin und lasst euch verwöhnen.

Run with heart and soul by the owners! The Overkamp is the best and finest address for accommodation and fine dining in Dortmund. I have rarely experienced such a balanced concept of a perfect location, elegant furnishings, excellent cuisine, and unobtrusive warmth. You can practically feel the spirit and charm of the owner family. A place where you feel at home! Highly recommended!

An important address in Dortmund and culinary of great value!

Overkamp is a traditional and Westphalian restaurant. Service is very attentive, friendly, and warm, and the atmosphere and ambiance are cozy and appealing. The food is made from regional, partly organic products; the taste, quality, and presentation are simply wonderful. The drinks, especially the wines, are highly recommended. A big thank you to the Overkamp family and team. My 70th birthday with a small family circle was wonderful and will always be fondly remembered. Stay healthy, and see you soon.

I had a very good meal at Overkamp and enjoyed very friendly and attentive service. For starters, I had a skillfully prepared turnip carpaccio with goat cheese (it was fantastic), for the main course, a delicious grilled cutlet with pointed cabbage and potatoes (the pointed cabbage was sensational), and for dessert, a Bavarian cream. The service was extremely good; I felt at home from the very first minute. There are plenty of parking spaces, and there are also many charging stations for electric cars.

Meine Familie und ich waren jetzt schon mehrmals im Hause Overkamp zum Gänseessen und wir haben uns dort sehr wohlgefühlt. Der Service, welcher für uns zuständig war, hat uns flott und freundlich bedient. Es wäre schön, wenn man die Gänsebrust bekommen hätte, die beim Service bestellt wurde. Zumal der Service gefragt hat, was man gerne möchte. Keine Frage, eine Gans besteht nicht nur aus Brust, sondern auch aus Keule. Es wäre trotzallem schön, wenn man darüber informiert würde, wenn etwas nicht mehr vorliegt und nicht serviert werden kann. Vielleicht sollte der Service etwas mehr mit der Küche kommunizieren bzw. andersherum.

We were there for dinner last Sunday and sat in the lovely garden. The food and drinks are on the higher side, but we enjoyed it! Our female server deserves special mention! Such a friendly and charming personality is rare in the restaurant industry these days. We were absolutely thrilled with the service and warmth! If the Overkamp management reads the reviews here... We were seated at table 203. Dear management, just a tip: "Service staff like that should be treated with respect."

My family has been going to this restaurant for 50 years, and we've generally had good meals and celebrated other occasions there. However, our last few visits were disappointing. The service is still the best, and the decor is still from the 80s. But the prices are definitely not commensurate with the quality of the food. A 220g fillet with a side salad and fries now costs €49.95. This is completely out of proportion to the retail price, and you can get a good fillet steak with the same side dishes elsewhere for at least €10-15 less. If you're also annoyed about the quality of some of the dishes, you'll leave the restaurant €300 poorer and disappointed. Honestly, I can only interpret the many good reviews here as a sign that the bad ones are being removed.

We celebrated our wedding there at the end of June with our closest friends and we were absolutely thrilled! During the preliminary meeting, all of our wishes were taken into account and the perfect suggestions were made. The Italian menu we chose was delicious. Our guests were also thrilled. The friendly waitress took great care of us and our guests that day! What was particularly positive was that she was child-friendly and let our little guest go first with the food. Afterwards, he was allowed to go into the kitchen and choose an ice cream. When we had questions about the dishes, she was able to explain everything clearly, what was in them and where it came from. The products are locally sourced and freshly prepared. They also pay attention to sustainability. Nothing is thrown away! We can definitely recommend the restaurant and will be back! Many thanks to the entire team!

Today at Overkamp was a disaster. As long-time guests who have hosted many family celebrations there and have always been very satisfied, nothing worked today. The service was extremely unreliable, and there were long waits. A pot of coffee outside for €4.95 barely contained a cup. After a long wait and a complaint, an ice cream sundae was served that contained only melted liquid, as the service was apparently not attentive enough to serve dessert in a timely manner. Although a replacement was delivered, we weren't entirely satisfied.

If you're coming to Dortmund and want guaranteed good food with the best service, you simply have to go to Overkamp! I enjoy eating out in restaurants often, at least every Sunday. It's been a family tradition for three generations, and since then, Overkamp has been a regular companion and, occasionally, a rock for me. I can't remember how many times I've been there, but I can say with certainty that in 30 years, I've never been disappointed. If you want good service and satisfied guests, you can celebrate your birthday or company anniversary here, or use the first-class catering service, including staff if desired. The latter, by the way, has remained largely the same over the years, which shows that the team works well. Most of the faces there are part of the furniture. During the coronavirus pandemic, people regularly expressed their heartfelt thanks for continuing to support the restaurant. This was at a time when no one knew how long in-house operations would be impossible. - Today, Overkamp is once again well attended by everyone, from young to old, and the food is of the highest quality. When I visit with my young children, the seating is carefully selected so that we don't disturb anyone, and sometimes a separate room was even opened for us, where the children could sit on the carpet until the food arrived. Of course, this is only possible on the rare occasions when it's less busy. It's definitely worth making a reservation in advance by phone! I love going to Overkamp with my family or business partners because you can simply rely on everyone finding something to suit them and going home happy. My favorites are "Cordon Bleu," "Wiener Schnitzel," "Krüstken," "Wickeder Forelle," "Grünes Schüsselken," and sometimes the "Fitnessteller." If you're looking for something to accompany your coffee and cake in the afternoon, you'll find it at the lavish cake counter and can then take a short walk in the adjacent forest. – If you honestly ask people in Dortmund where they can find the best service in a restaurant and where they get the impression that the staff is still passionate about their work, the name Overkamp will definitely come up, you can be sure of that! I live in Berlin half the year and travel a lot for business. Therefore, I know that, especially in Berlin, there are many "trendy" restaurants that need to be created to generate some kind of hype, which then fizzles out at some point or is only artificially kept alive. Fortunately, the Overkamp family business doesn't need that kind of thing and has remained down-to-earth for years. I only know of two restaurants in Berlin that can match this level of service and quality. What the Overkamp family achieves every day is simply incredible! It makes me truly proud that there is such a restaurant in my hometown.

Hello dear team! We have been guests at your restaurant several times and have always been satisfied. This time, however, it was different. The food was okay, but no longer a highlight. The bread listed on the menu for the tomato soup was not served, and the coffee with the cake wasn't brought until all the guests had already enjoyed their cake. This was partly due to the server assigned to us that day. We had the impression that she was very bossy and her tone was very domineering and didactic towards the guests. Staff shortages are a problem everywhere, but our impression was more that she wanted to handle everything on her own and didn't allow any other staff (except for serving the main course). I would actually give it 10 stars. Unfortunately, I can only give it five. We were guests at your restaurant for a birthday party in the hut. We met a well-coordinated team, both at the grill and at the bar. I would especially like to mention the bar staff, Tobias, Lena, Alena, and Magnus (the staff requested that we mention them by name). They spared no effort to fulfill even the most unusual drink requests. Thank you very much for that. We felt very comfortable.

Definitely one of the best place in town for specially occasion. I have been there with my parents, the food is amazing, the owner(chef) came out and have conversation at the table. The service is excellent, the waiter was very helpful and assisted me from removing jacket, adjust the seat to preparing food or remove bone at the table. Our double room in the main building was clean and nice. Coffee/tea machine just around the corner. A successful stay, The sign at the entrance "The sun only shines for you today" has come true! We'd love to come back.

Dear Overkamp team, For many years, we as a family have traditionally visited your house on Easter Sunday - and in most cases we have been very satisfied. We were looking forward to visiting you again this year. However, we would like to give you open feedback this year, as there were some points that struck us negatively and that, in our opinion, could definitely be improved. What particularly bothered us this time was the service. During our stay we had contact with around seven to eight different service staff. Unfortunately, many of them didn't seem particularly attentive or professional. Orders were mixed up, not delivered or simply forgotten. An example: We ordered vanilla ice cream with raspberries and cream - the first delivery was vanilla ice cream with walnuts. After a complaint we were given vanilla ice cream with mango. When we pointed out that it wasn't correct again, we were told that the mango "also had raspberries in it" - and the ice cream was still just put there. Unfortunately, such small but avoidable mistakes leave an unprofessional impression. Another point is the price level. We are aware that quality has its price - and the food is still of a high standard and very tasty. Nevertheless, the prices for main courses now seem so high that people tend to forego starters or desserts. Perhaps it would be worth considering rethinking the pricing structure to encourage guests to order more. We would also like to point out the design of the menu - especially the Easter menu. As in previous years, readability was difficult, but what irritated us this time was the advertisement on the last page (for a DJ and a massage treatment). Unfortunately, this doesn't seem very stylish and, in our opinion, doesn't fit into a menu. Finally, we would also like to emphasize: The atmosphere at your place is, as always, excellent, and even though we have experienced some restrictions this time, we are generally happy to come to you. We hope you can see this feedback as constructive criticism - and perhaps one or two points will be helpful for future improvements.
