Yabase in Düsseldorf

Visited some months ago The place is small and gets busy. You need to go (lunch) when they open, otherwise you need to wait in the queue for a long time. At dinner time you could reserve. All what they serve is super fresh. The staff prepares the sushi and other dishes in an open kitchen where you can see it. And they are very clean. The food was super tasty but the portions are very small. And it is in the expensive side. It is popular the bento box. I ordered the sushi and was super good.

We had the 6-course Yabase menu, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed for the price (58 pp). The food itself tasted good and the portions were adequate; I was particularly pleasantly surprised by the amount of sashimi. Overall, however, there was nothing flavor-wise that really blew me away. The presentation was quite bland. Furthermore, everything was served fairly quickly one after the other, sometimes even before you'd finished the previous course, so you felt a bit rushed. I expect something different, especially with a multi-course menu. The tables where you eat are also quite dirty, which also doesn't contribute to the ambiance (could be improved with nice drink coasters), as are the cheap paper napkins. Furthermore, the sink area near the restroom is very narrow, so there's a high probability of getting a door in your back while washing your hands. Since there is only one toilet and sink anyway (at least for the women), I would recommend that the owners make the door to the bathroom a lockable door.

A super authentic and beautiful restaurant. All the dishes I tried were truly delicious and beautifully prepared. The high quality and exclusivity of the food offered there naturally come with a rather high price tag. However, for fans of Japanese cuisine and fish lovers, it's worth every cent. I was particularly impressed by the yellowtail head, which I highly recommend.

There are many Japanese people in Düsseldorf, and most of the restaurants are run by Japanese people, so it's hard to miss out on Japanese food. This restaurant is also delicious. I often went out drinking with expatriates from Japan. Please note that sake is expensive at all restaurants.

The food is generally successful. The price is well above the general price in Düsseldorf. It cost over 50 EUR for one person without buying drinks. As a starter, I tried Tako Su (sesame octopus with seaweed). I can't say it was an experience that left a mark. Then I sang Gyu Tataki. I can say it was successful. Finally, I ordered Foie Grass wrapped in Gyu Tatari served with basil sauce and pieces of peanuts. I can say that I left my soul to this last one. I might go again just to eat this.

A classic among Japanese restaurants, very fine food and good wines

One of the best sushi / seafood rice bowls ever. Even better than some places we tried in Japan. Service is efficient but it is extreeeemely crowded for lunch, we recommend queuing from 10.45 in the morning if your group is more than 2 people.

This was my first time visiting Yabase Japanese Restaurant, and I had a wonderful experience. I went on a Saturday afternoon, and as expected, there was a queue. To ensure a smoother visit, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, especially during peak hours. Now, onto the food—it was absolutely outstanding! Everything was incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor, and truly authentic. You can tell that great care goes into preparing each dish, making it a must-visit for Japanese food lovers. The staff were also very helpful and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience.

The sushi, sashimi and Udon ramen were sublime. Incredibly fresh and refined. One friend had the tempura bowl, tasted hers and it was also incredibly tasty. The special Taiko sauce they use completes everything. I deeply regret not taking the Unagi. It looked so delicious and I don't often see it on the menu. So I have to go back to Yabase. I'll definitely do it.

I had the pleasure of trying the Yabase Teishoku and was absolutely amazed by the variety and quality of the individual components. The fish was of very good quality and melted in the mouth. The tempura vegetables were crispy and perfectly cooked. Even the seaweed salad, which rarely impresses me, surprised me in a completely positive way. :) We visited the restaurant around 1pm on a Saturday and had to wait about 20 minutes to get a seat - a small sign of how popular this place is. But the wait was more than worth it. A culinary experience that I can warmly recommend!

Business lunch for two with appetizers and Tokusen sushi (“sushi platter luxury”). Great sushi, but rude, unfriendly service that you probably wouldn't experience in Japan.

The restaurant offers excellent quality sushi, with fresh ingredients and nice presentation. However, the staff was not particularly welcoming, which affected the atmosphere. If the hospitality improves, this place could easily become a top destination for sushi lovers.

Probably one of the best sushi you can get in Germany! Excellent quality food 👍 My friend works here so it made the experience even better! Although as someone from Japan, it's pretty pricey for what you get. I was just happy to get decent quality Japanese food outside of Japan.

This is the best sushi I ever ate . Fantastic quality . Düsseldorf is likely the best place to sample original Japanese food in Europe. Given that so many Japanese firms have their European headquarters here and this restaurant is on the top end of what you can get . Interior is not that luxury though and service was a bit slow but the quality of the food is extraordinary. You need to book a table though .

Yabase has been a safe bet for authentic Japanese cuisine in Düsseldorf for years. Always great fun and really enjoy the quality and vibe every time. Interesting to read that some reviewers think the sushi is average… for me it’s one of the best in Europe. And yes, it comes without pineapple and chili mayo 🫣

High prices, extremely small portions. There is almost no difference in the L portion size compared to other sizes, the only difference is the higher price! The waiter's behavior was also very indifferent and a complaint to the waiter was unsuccessful. The eel was priced at 43 euros and was not recommended in terms of taste, very fatty and bland. I can only make further complaints and request a refund of the consumption amount. (The third picture shows the large portion I ordered. The last picture is a picture taken online of a large portion of eel rice, you can compare the two)

Best sushi shop in Düsseldorf - the quality of the fish is very high.

Our first and probably last visit to a significantly overpriced "restaurant". First of all, we like to spend a lot of money on good food! My tuna with teriyaki sauce was garnished with a loveless lettuce leaf and a cocktail tomato. This is how people worked in the 60s. The tuna completely covered in salty sauce. Terrible. My wife's bowl with salmon, tuna and avocado carelessly diced together. I thought Yabase was a restaurant and not a snack bar. I have eaten our (tiny) starter, spinach with sesame, 100 times. For half the price. The sushi is arranged carelessly, without pizzazz and, like everywhere else, just more expensive. The quality was impeccable. In general, we found the plastic menu to be boring and slightly smeared by 6 p.m. Plus, you sit bottom to bottom like you're in a snack bar. Completely unsuitable for the evening, in my world. For the palate experience, we prefer to pick up at Maruyasu and eat at home.

Excellent sushi and sashimi. Absolute top recommendation.

I ordered a course meal for 2 people, 1 cup of beer, and 1 glass of sake. I paid 129,5 euros. In Korean Won, it costs approximately 200,000 won, but you should never come here thinking about that level. Since we are in Germany and raw fish is scarce, we have no choice. Other people said it was very fresh, but it had a very fishy smell overall, except for the salmon. The soy sauce braised fish (I don't know the name of the menu) was too salty. I ate it all because of the price. If it were Korea, I wouldn't want to visit it again even if it was half price. I regret that I should have tried sushi or eel rice bowl instead. I was really unlucky. Maybe I visited when the taste was the worst, or maybe it was overrated because it was located in Germany.

We have a Weekday special menu. Appearance and portion are good. With 20 Euro, it’s a good deal. Will I return for this deal? Probably not :) as the selection of sashimi, their cuts, the temperature and taste of miso soup, as well as the sushi rice could be far better. I prefer to pay more for another Japanese restaurant - the one that I used to go.

Fantastic choice of sashimi and sushi. A menu is also available, but I would definitely order the unagi, it's better not to eat it. The sushi with foie gras is also a tasty combination. So I combined several options from the menu.

Super tasty Japanese food. This restaurant exceeded all my expectations. It didn't look very special at first glance, but the food is really excellent. Too often you eat sushi that is nothing more than a slice of rice with a piece of fish on top. At this restaurant you can taste real Japanese food. Just abnormal! We had reserved a place in the afternoon, but it was rejected after two hours when we were already at the door. We drove here especially from Frankfurt and therefore demand an explanation. We had to wait half an hour in front of the door for the waiter so that the waiter would throw us out?! The staff then became violent. This is an absolute disgrace and we will never come back.

I recently had a shocking incident at this restaurant. That day, when I was dining in the restaurant with my friends, I encountered racially-motivated remarks from a staff member. After I reported it, the staff member pushed me, causing me slight injury. This behavior makes me feel extremely disrespectful and angry. I hope the restaurant can face up to the problem, give me a reasonable explanation, and deal with the employees involved. At the same time, I also call on everyone to pay attention to this incident and resist any form of discrimination and violence.

We came to Düsseldorf from Frankfurt just for the food, and when I arrived at the restaurant the staff told us that we didn't have a reservation. And also beaten up my family members, I have never had such a bad experience.

Food is absolutely overpriced for the bad quality food. One of the maki barely had salmon.. and maki was open (you can see on the picture) Tables are super close each other and loud inside since it’s so packed. Just one bad service person is enough to make us feel uncomfortable.

I have known Yabase for more than 20 years now. When you eat the fish there, you taste a clear difference from the majority of Japanese restaurants throughout Germany. The food is simply top class.

Great Japanese restaurant in Düsseldorf‘s Little Tokyo that has been there forever and that consistently delivers great quality. The food is fantastic and loved by Japanese expats, locals, and tourists alike. The service is very friendly. Don‘t expect a bargain - Japanese dining on this level is not cheap, but we had full a la carte incl. a bottle of sake for four adults and two children for 317€. That is absolutly ok for the quality you are getting. But make sure to reserve a table early - the restaurant is packed in the evenings.

Sushi at its best. The sushi is classic, no chi-chi. But the fish is of the very best quality, especially when it comes to sashimi. Unagi was delicious: a large piece of freshly fried eel. Class! The service was very quick and friendly, and the counter space is highly recommended, especially for those who eat alone.

Ate Karaage on site, the service was very friendly and the food looked fantastic. A small bowl of miso soup, a bowl of rice, some mayo and some greens were served with the chicken. In addition, there were two very small bowls with onions that were dressed like kimchi and carrot strips with something that I couldn't define. The portion was absolutely fine for the price, I just would have liked a spoonful more mayo. But everything tasted very good 😊. The only small point of criticism was that our table was a bit cramped, even for two people.

Today's meal (rice) was not delicious. I don't know if I used yesterday's rice or if I cooked it the wrong way, but I was really looking forward to eating delicious Japanese food for the first time in a while, so I was very disappointed and surprised. There was a lot of private conversation among the chefs behind the counter, which made me feel a little uncomfortable. Every time I've been there, the food has been delicious and the service has been good, so I'd like to think I just had bad luck today.

The best for sushi and sashimi in Germany that I have tried so far! Here is the only place I have found in Germany that has the Ikura that tastes like how you find it in Asia, with a hint of sweetness and not overly salty like other places I tried in Germany. The price is on the higher average side but when you compare it to the quality, it is worth the price. They also offer lunch deals. The service is also nice with an average cozy Japanese restaurant atmosphere. For lunch, you can just walk in, but reservations are recommended for dinner as it can get really busy.

Brilliant sushi and the eel was also delicious. Even if you had to queue a little at lunchtime, it was worth it for us because the quality on offer was extremely high, but of course this also comes at a price. Very friendly and fast service. We were thrilled.

For now, this is the best sushi restaurant in Germany where I have tasted sushi that literally melts in your mouth. The quality and freshness are there, but it comes at a price: count on more than 30 euros per person. Despite the cost, if you are a fish fan, this is the place to have lunch! The setting is pleasant and the service impeccable, which makes the experience even more pleasant.

On the occasion of my birthday, I visited Yabase for the first time in a long time.  It was the worst.  We ordered two sets of Yabase Teshoku and Nabe Udon.  The udon came and I liked it. The waiter told me to clear the table as the food would be served soon so there would be more space for the other dishes. So I put the udon tray away and waited. but I was annoyed, I waited for over 40 minutes, but nothing came out.  I thought the chefs went to Hamburg specifically to catch fish for you.  It is normal to inform customers if the food they ordered is missing or takes a long time, but the staff gave no explanation for this.  And after we sat down, two people came to the table next to us, but they had already finished their food and left before ours came out. So I paid for udon noodles and drinks and decided to leave and they told me that the food I ordered would be served soon.  I thought I would wait a long time again so I just left. The staff don't care about the customers even though not busy

haven't been there since 2020 (pre-Covid) and decided to refresh my good memories. Was not dissapointed, as expected. Absolutely recommend a reservation, the place is known and pretty crowded, even on regular business days. Since alone, got a seat at the bar, which can be better than a table, since you can watch the sushi chefs at work. ordered chirashi and grilled tuna head (a must). Everything excellent, fresh and tasty. The tuna head was unbelievable good, lots of meat (got the large one). The Villa Antonioni white wine helped process and digest everything. So, if you have the opportunity to get here, grab it. Highly recommended.

One of the best sushi I have ever eaten.

We ordered a variety of dishes, and while the service was quick, the food arrived a bit too fast, making us feel rushed to clear the plates to make space for the other dishes. This took away from fully enjoying the meal. The unagi felt overpriced for the portion and was a bit dry and underwhelming. The sushi was decent, but didn’t leave a lasting impression. The eggplant with miso was quite salty, but still had a delicious flavor. And the other dishes were fine. Overall, the experience could have been better.

We were here on a Saturday lunchtime without a reservation and tried the "Running Sushi". Very friendly staff, super tasty sushi and everything authentic!

Wonderful sushi! I got the sashimi teshoku. The fish tasted very fresh and flavourful, and I liked the sides that came with it. Definitely worth a trip if you like sushi!

I heard that the ceiling is actually not bad. The taste is okay, not bad, but not amazing. The service level is average and the service staff training is not in place. The overall restaurant is very clean, but it is still a bit noisy when there are many people. The serving time is a bit long, but maybe there are too many people and there are not enough chefs. The dishes are not served together, but one dish after another.

Lived up to the hype and then some. Absolutely exquisite. Every bite was perfection. Service was professional. The Foie Gras and beef sushi was mind-blowing. Tempura was crispy, flavorsome and perfect. Tuna was stunning. The beef sashimi was to die for. Could honestly fault nothing. Edit: Have since been for lunch. Dinner is MUCH better. Don't expect the same finesse if you go for lunch.

The best Japanese restaurant in town! The sashimi is very fresh and unbeatable, even compared to Michelin 1 star restaurants here (Nagaya or Yoshi) – but the price is very good. The service is great. We ended up tipping a lot because we liked it there.

We went there on Saturday lunchtime based on a recommendation and ordered premium sushi and grilled eel. The sushi was okay, but unfortunately not particularly impressive. You can definitely find better alternatives at the other two Japanese restaurants in Düsseldorf. The grilled eel, on the other hand, was a real disappointment. It had a strong fishy flavor and the skin was not grilled enough, resulting in an unpleasant texture. Unfortunately, the marinade couldn't save the taste either. Overall, the eel left an unappealing impression. It is therefore not worth coming extra early or waiting in line for a long time.

I received the top flyer and hitsumabushi. It was so delicious! I was worried about whether I would be able to enter the restaurant as I had to wait in line until the end of lunch time, but thanks to their typical Japanese service, I was able to enter the restaurant and was able to have the best lunch I had in Germany. thank you!

The price is too high compared to the quality of sushi you're being served. Tables are quite small, no coasters for glasses. The quality here is okay or better but it's not worth the premium price they charge for their sushi.

We spent a weekend in the Japanese quarter and tried a few restaurants, but in none of them were the staff so authentic and warmly friendly without seeming fake. Both on the phone when we made our lucky last minute dinner reservation and on site, the people were very professional and pleasant. The food was of course also very tasty and beautifully prepared. Despite the place being full, the waiting time was very short. The only thing you might not like is that the room is a little smaller and therefore the volume is higher. But unfortunately this situation can be found in most stores, so no point is deducted.

I felt like I was in Japan, very authentic restaurant. The food was really tasty. The staff mainly only speaks English, but I have rarely seen such warm people.

Most delicious sushi I have ever had in Europe. The restaurant is very popular so make sure to reserve a place by phone! They have a lot of really nice starter diahes to share. We had the sunomono (pickled fish and veggies) and fried tuna as starters, which were both delicious. The sunomono consisted of shrimp, shellfish, fish, cucumber, seaweed and octopus. The octopus was my favorite :) The fried tuna tasted amazing with the yuzu lemonade (or a beer, I imagine!). For the main dishes, we both had a sushi menu: the special chef menu and salmon menu. The menus are both delicious and super filling. I had a hard time choosing because there were so many good other options: grilled eel, seafood bowl, tempura bowl, and more. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious, and the service was great. The waiting staff was constantly checking if we had already finished, so service was super efficient but also friendly :) I would definitely return here if I were in Düsseldorf again!

Not open. There’s a sign on the window saying they’re off for half the month. That’s cool, but then update your info on Google. We came from far and this completely threw off our dinner plans.

Me and my girlfriend visited the restaurant recently. We both really had stomach problems afterwards. Service was really nice and friendly, atmosphere was good, but really worst stomach experience I have ever had (I regularly consumed sushi, not first time reaction).. We had sushi and oysters, I will have a long wait until I can try them again..

The quality of sushi was good, the fish was very fresh and well prepared. But the Sushi rice was unsatisfied. The worst thing was we found a hair in a Sushi. That wasn’t a very good experience. I still want to visit here one more time.

You cannot describe this tasting experience with words. I was here 5 or 6 years ago, and my recent visit just reinforced my positive past experience. I will definitely come back when I visit Düsseldorf again.
