A short break before my hospital stay in Hamburg.

The food was superb...fish fillet in panko breadcrumbs with fried onions...divine... My husband had venison cheeks with bacon-roasted potatoes...absolutely divine! 😂😂 The service was friendly, attentive, and very professional... The icing on the cake...greeting the ships with explanations...it doesn't get more Elbe and Hamburg than that. 👍👍👍

We had kale as a main course at the Schulauer Fährhaus restaurant. It came with sweet potatoes, which I unfortunately don't like. Apparently, substitutions weren't possible, so I ordered fried potatoes on the side (at an extra cost). I've never experienced a situation where substitutions weren't an option.

We celebrated our wedding here in the big festive Saal in May 2025. Everything was absolutely spectacular and we have the best memories that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. The team here is truly top notch and so professional, from the organization with Cem to the lovely and friendly service team which were there on our wedding night. We also did our Ceremony outside in their garden, which was set up beautifully. We are so thankful to the team at Schulauer Fährhaus for making our special day so extra special!

We came here for breakfast. The atmosphere was wonderful, and there was a great variety of fresh options. The staff was friendly and attentive. Thank you for a wonderful morning!

The day before we booked our meal, the menu changed. Our guest ordered Labskaus and requested two fried eggs instead of a poached egg. Apparently, the kitchen was unable to accommodate this request, or so we were told. We were quite disappointed that such a renowned restaurant couldn't even manage to serve a fried egg. We would have been willing to pay extra for it. We don't necessarily want to return. There are plenty of restaurants that are a bit more accommodating to their guests' wishes!

It's always lovely here. We had a hot chocolate, which was excellent. We also ordered Kaiserschmarrn, which I can highly recommend. Soooo delicious! The view is always beautiful, and every time a ship passes by, they provide really interesting information about it.

The Lübeck marzipan cake doesn't quite measure up to the original from Niederegger, and the apple strudel was good. The service was particularly friendly. Having to pay €2 for parking for over an hour while having coffee is really outrageous. The parking lot was almost empty… borderline.

I went there specifically for the welcome area. It was very interesting. Since it was November, it was also very empty. I enjoyed it very much.

Regarding the food, it's not so simple: my venison loin, as well as the fried potatoes and the children's schnitzel, were indeed excellent; the duck leg, however, was quite bland, as were the dumplings, and the red cabbage was almost cold. The ice cream, though, was truly disastrous—it seemed as if it had thawed and refrozen, old and boring. The service was absolutely terrible! We ordered main courses and a waffle for our youngest daughter, clearly also a main course—it arrived almost half an hour before our dishes. If we wanted to order anything else, we had to get up and find a waiter because our waving was completely ignored. The table was only cleared after we asked. Even with dessert, a schnapps arrived almost 10 minutes before everyone else. These things might happen occasionally, but considering the prices and the completely inconsistent quality of the food, it has to be said that it's absolutely not good value for money—not worth the trip!

I'd love to come back in the summer. It'll definitely be even nicer when you can sit outside. Worth it. Tip: Book in advance.

Big pots and pans while enjoying good food, great!

The food and view were very good… but: the service (head waiter) was unfriendly, slow, and completely inflexible. We ordered flame-grilled salmon without bread salad… response: “Not possible” – result: food waste. Apparently, they don't need the business… what a shame!

Delicious food, very attentive service, and a great view of the Elbe River. It's not exactly cheap, but still highly recommended.

After seeing the exorbitant price of herring (€26.90 is outrageous), we stopped in for just a drink. It seems you're also paying for the location. Too bad.

A nice restaurant for a day trip, unfortunately few boats on Saturdays. The sound system needs updating. Poor sound quality.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly and attentive service. The menu was delicious, good value for money, but the wait between courses was quite long and unfortunately there was no option to exchange individual items (specifically the aperitif) on the menu. Great wine list.

Very disorganized. We received no drinks other than sparkling wine, and the only snacks were soggy tarte flambée.

This place was a disappointment for us. First, we parked here and hurried to the river to have a look around and not miss a passing ship, which the "captain without a ship" will play the anthem of the country under whose flag the ship sails. When none was sailing, we wanted to have coffee, lemonade and a small snack while waiting. However, the direct entrance from the embankment to the restaurant was blocked by a chain with a sign "monitored by cameras". I had to go around it all again through the parking lot. I went inside, walked to the captain's cabin and talked to him for a while. He was very nice, helpful and accommodating, but otherwise no one noticed me. It was not at all clear where the path to the terrace led, whether we could go there or if someone was supposed to seat us. When the captain said that the ship would definitely sail in two hours and maybe one hour earlier, but that it was not certain, we finally didn't wait and left. Too bad, we had other ideas about this place - that we would simply sit at a table and have something good and wait enthusiastically, but I have no idea what we were supposed to do to get someone to offer us a table, when you can't just walk from the quay to the terrace and no one noticed me at the main entrance. When we then paid for the relatively expensive parking, we just assessed that it didn't seem like a "welcoming" place to us.

Eggs again and again. A nice destination with interesting information about passing ships. Good selection of vegan dishes.

We were there for dinner yesterday and immediately felt comfortable. The table was set, and the service was very attentive, friendly, and discreetly vigilant. My wife had the November four-course menu with the monkfish and was completely satisfied. I had the fish soup as a starter, followed by the venison cheeks. Unfortunately, the fish soup was too lemony, so the actual fish flavor was lost. The vegetable garnish wasn't particularly good either and was cut much too small. It seemed like frozen vegetables, but I can't really judge that. The venison cheeks, on the other hand, were flawless and very tasty. In short, we were very satisfied with the meal and would gladly return. What I don't understand, and consider a clear criticism, is that guests who dine in the restaurant have to pay parking fees for the on-site parking lot. Even if it's a reduced rate, it's absolutely unacceptable. I find it reasonable that they charge people who don't dine in the restaurant, but it's completely wrong for paying guests.

Very tasty food and excellent service

A wonderful view of the Elbe and the passing ships.

Aside from the wonderful location, I was disappointed. I sought shelter there due to heavy rain and ordered fish soup and water. The soup was awful! Watery broth, unseasoned, with a piece of fish in it. I've rarely been so annoyed. I was there during the pandemic, and everything was perfect then – great food, good value for money. There was no sign of that during my visit a week ago. What a shame.

Located right on the Elbe River, anyone who managed to snag a window seat for dinner was in luck. Passing ships are warmly greeted and sent off on their journeys into the wide world... complete with the national anthem... a new memory sealed for me, but as a landlubber, I'd much rather be on the pier than on board an AIDA or similar cruise ship... Bon voyage!

Very friendly and attentive service. We sat on the terrace and, due to the wind (perhaps also because of the wind), couldn't hear the announcements about the ships very well, but the music was fine. Clean restrooms, prices are reasonable.

A lovely little café right next to the ship welcoming station. Prices for coffee and cake are reasonable, and the staff were all friendly. Unfortunately, no ships passed by during our visit :( It must be incredibly crowded here in the summer.

Service by untrained staff. The oysters are vilified, very posh! The pan-fried fish was good, the fried potatoes were soggy. It used to be more rustic, but also better.

We had a wonderful wedding reception at the Schulauer Fährhaus. The wedding planning went perfectly. We felt very well looked after, and our requests were quickly and easily accommodated. The fireplace room with its private terrace was perfect for our celebration, and the food was delicious. We were very satisfied!

The Schulauer Fährhaus in Wedel is worth a visit. The service, the ambiance, and especially the food are all top-notch. There's something for everyone. The breakfast buffet is particularly recommended. It's very extensive, and drinks are included. The stunning view of the Elbe River perfectly complements the experience.

We stayed at the Fährhaus with 8 people, including 2 small children. The food and service were good. The spot on the terrace was a bit unfortunate. Even though the plastic tarpaulins were closed, it was extremely drafty, which was especially noticeable when the heaters were off, which was unfortunately quite often. The coded access to the restrooms is also poorly designed. The keypad is too small, especially for seniors. We were unlucky that the door wouldn't open even after entering the code. The worst thing, however, was that despite spending over 300 euros on food, we still had to pay a 3-euro parking fee (we had 3 cars, so 9 euros). Parking should be free for guests who eat. Anything else is a rip-off.

Beautiful ambiance, fitting for the surroundings. Learned a lot while greeting and bidding farewell to the ships. The restaurant is full of information and pictures from days gone by. Service was courteous and quick.

Beautiful, large complex, lovely restaurant, beautiful view. It's worth a trip. But it's gotten more expensive.

Some places manage to catapult you away from everyday life as soon as you arrive, and the Fährhaus is one of them. You sit there overlooking the Elbe, the sun glinting off the water, and in front of you: a brunch buffet that looks more like a boutique hotel in Ibiza than Germany. Everything you could wish for and a little more. Fresh, fine, fancy. From warm brioche with a blanched egg to a little surprise in a glass, lovingly prepared and simply delicious. Sure, the prices aren't cheap, but every bite screams: It's worth it! I'd do it again anytime. Perfect for special occasions or simply when you want to treat yourself to a real treat.

We got married here, and I can only say that nothing was missing to make it a dream wedding. From the service to the food to the location. There was absolutely nothing to complain about.

Great restaurant with a glass kitchen, friendly staff and delicious food

Strategic location for boat enthusiasts.

It was a lovely autumn walk on October 3, 2025. We walked from the ferry house toward the power plant, after which, as part of the Bavarian Week, we enjoyed cheese spaetzle and meatloaf with fried eggs and potato salad.

An unforgettable event for maritime enthusiasts is the official ship welcoming station of the Federal Republic of Germany. And by the way, this excursion and event location is one of the best locations in the north. For us, it's a fixed appointment on every visit. In addition to the homemade cakes and gateaux, the hot meals are also excellent. Well, on that day, you shouldn't count your daily calories so much. The staff is very accommodating and friendly.

You should definitely visit the ferry house if you're ever in Hamburg. The ship greeting system is fantastic.

The coffee and cake are great. The staff is very friendly. Lunch and dinner are a bit expensive. It's fun to sit there, gaze at the Elbe, and listen to the ships passing by.

Price-performance ratio is right, staff friendly, fast service, good quality of food, there were nine of us and everyone found something and was very satisfied.

Today I ate the best Labskaus of my life!!! (69 years old)😄 Highly recommended! The other dishes at the table were also excellent, as was the dessert. Kudos to the kitchen!!! In terms of space, it mistakenly looks like a mass-produced restaurant, but it isn't at all.

All the dishes were excellently cooked, and the location on the Elbe River is a perfect place to enjoy the meal.

It's nice to sit there, eat well and watch the ships passing by and the transporter bridge.

Always worth a visit. Very friendly and accommodating service. Lunch and cake are highly recommended. The location is, of course, a factor, but you know that beforehand.

We celebrated a wedding there with over 80 guests on August 23, 2025, and were absolutely delighted. The preparations, service, and food were top-notch. Children, vegans/vegetarians, and allergy sufferers were catered for, and no effort was spared. We were thoroughly satisfied and can only recommend the Neue Schulauer Fährhaus to anyone planning a wedding/celebration or other event and looking for a suitable location.

You can tell they've put a lot of effort into it, but since it's described as 'new,' I was expecting something different. However, the food is very good. The service is also positive. If you get a table right on the promenade, you can watch the ships go by.

It was a very nice breakfast and a great atmosphere.

We were there on Sunday, August 17, 2025. We wanted to have a leisurely coffee, but that didn't happen. After 45 minutes, we got up and had coffee somewhere else. The staff seemed overwhelmed, even though it was very quiet. They looked over at us, but that was it. They didn't feel like serving us, and other couples were also dissatisfied. Always an experience to watch and greet passing boats. Newly remodeled. Good seating outside or inside. Excellent food from the kitchen to the menu. Friendly staff.

We were there for breakfast and can't complain about anything. Everything was great. The only thing that really annoyed us was the parking fee in the restaurant's own parking lot. We had to pay €3.00 or €4.00 depending on when we arrived. I mean, we ate there, and it wasn't exactly cheap, and then as a paying guest you have to pay parking on top of that—it's simply outrageous.

The announcements were incomprehensible. The surroundings were too loud and the speakers were silent.

A great place to relax. Of course, only in good weather, with a stroll along the Elbe.

The iced coffee tasted of nothing—not much coffee, a lot of water, and bland vanilla ice cream. The iced chocolate was okay.

Only the restaurant was open; the beer garden and fish sandwich stand were all closed. There was little parking for non-restaurant patrons.

Great location on the Elbe River, on the outskirts of Hamburg. The rooms and terrace offer a view of the Elbe, and the Willkomm Höft ship welcoming system is a real treat. We had a sensational wedding celebration with you in Wedel and thank you for a fantastic performance, even with 100 guests in the main ballroom alongside regular business hours. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the service was always attentive and on point. Not only do you have a fantastic location on the Elbe, but you also have a fantastic team. Thanks especially to Cem and Jörn, who were always there for us from the planning stage until the final whistle at 3 a.m.

Everything tasted good. We had breakfast there. Everything was excellent. I highly recommend it! Get your parking ticket stamped; it only costs 1 euro.

Highly recommended. The food could sometimes be served warmer, but it's very good for a large group. The service and ambiance are surprisingly good for a tourist destination.
