There are no spices in the kitchen, the only thing available is a pile of frozen goods. The "Wiener Schnitzel" came straight from the freezer and had no taste.

The concept of Roman dishes is interesting in itself, but I think the portions are too small and the service wasn't particularly good either. The wine rolls, which according to the menu are part of the dish, were only brought to us upon request.

The schnitzel is not recommended… Salad dressing tastes very artificial. Too bad.

What a great place to dine in after a day out exploring the city. Warmly welcomed by the staff and a lovely atmosphere. Ordered my food and drinks and chilled while i waited. When the food arrived it was well presented, hot and fresh. The side salad had a lovely taste, a great accompaniment to the Wiener schnitzel. I took my time eating, as i was enjoying it so much. The schnitzel was cooked to a turn, so tasty and delicious, it certainly went down a treat. I had been craving schnitzel all day and I'm so glad i discovered this restaurant as it was the best ending to my visit to Trier, before heading back to Luxembourg. I left the restaurant with a full and very contented tummy. My compliments to the chef on giving me a fantastic dinner and the service staff for the great welcome.

Service gut, Essen Katastrophal. Salat nicht frisch und mit einem Haar offen am Rand. Hätte man sehen müssen! „Holzfäller“Steak war nur ein kleines blanko Schnitzel mit fertig Röstzwiebeln. Nudeln mit Lachs war trocken und Fischig. Wienerschnitzel war OK. Putensteak war trocken!

When we are in Trier, the Domstein is a must. I love the “old” Roman dishes.

The service and the ambience, especially in the courtyard area, are worth seeing. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to snuff. Everything was well prepared, but very bland in taste. There was a lot of spice missing. Unfortunately, the soups tasted more like finished goods. Overall, it's worth a visit for a drink, but unfortunately we didn't enjoy the hearty food.

Unfriendly and rude staff. We came with six people and were not allowed to sit anywhere. It was not possible to push tables together or add chairs to a four-person table. This meant that we had nowhere to sit together.

Too bad, the exteriors were closed due to lack of staff.

We had dinner there at the end of our visit to the city of Trier. There is seating outside on the shopping street, inside and in a spacious courtyard. We sat comfortably and protected from the sun in the courtyard. The food was, there is no other way to say it, simply of a high standard. It was delicious and the prices were normal. The service was friendly and the food came quickly. The children are also thought of. There were crayons, something to color in and a children's menu with a good selection. My wife had a cheese-filled vegetable pocket, I had the Trier spit roast, which was so tasty and tender that a knife seemed unnecessary, and our son had the fries and schnitzel dish, with a schnitzel that deserved the name (and not some warmed-up junk like in the restaurant near Lichtenberg Castle) I found the selection of dishes based on original Roman recipes interesting, but we didn't try them because it was our departure day. Since we only had one dish each, I unfortunately can't make a specific recommendation. Judging by our order, I also expect the same high quality of other dishes. The sanitary facilities are probably from the 1970s.

Very tasty salad plate eaten on our trip to Trier. You have to try the Roman rolls. The garden behind the house is very nice to sit in.

We ate delicious tapas with a nice glass of wine. The stube is very tastefully decorated with bottles in all kinds of ways. Friendly staff, in short, we had a wonderful evening!

Zeer mooie zaak op de markt van Trier. Het keldergedeelte was niet open, wat eigenlijk het doel was van ons bezoek,jammer.

Het regende maar buiten staan er paraplu’s waaronder je droog kan zitten. Binnen was er geen plaats zonder reservering dus onvriendelijk buiten gewerkt. Dan maar, omdat er buiten een bordje met de vermelding stond „bij regen buiten geen bediening“ wij naar binnen om zelf drankjes af te halen. We waren nog vlugger buiten dan gehoopt want drinken van binnen naar buiten meenemen was „ not done“ werd ons nogmaals op een onvriendelijke wijze duidelijk gemaakt.

We were in Trier for a few days and went there every now and then for a drink. We ate there once. Staff always very accommodating and super friendly. Food was very tasty. We can absolutely recommend it.

After a long journey and an interesting tour through the history of the city, we went to the Domstein for strength. After a manageable wine tasting, it was time for an outstanding meal based on Roman recipes from the cookbook “De re coquinaria”. It was a very successful evening in the historic inner courtyard, which was only diminished by the Austrian own goal at the European Championships 🏟️.

Tasteless frozen goods Yesterday we had the puff pastry filled with vegetables for around €16.50. A vegetarian dish. I haven't eaten so badly in a long time. Completely tasteless frozen food. Then it was baked for too long, so it was dry, and the vegetable pulp inside had no taste at all. A disgrace for this price The service wasn't particularly friendly either, so I don't recommend it. The website is a joke too!

We were particularly impressed by the vegan dishes on the menu. But they are a failure, they tasted like unseasoned ready meals.

Prices do not match the prices on the homepage at all. Prices are €5-6 expensive locally. If you politely point this out to the waiter, you will be dealt with straight away. A pity

Nach der Besichtung einiger Sehenswürdigkeiten sind wir mit knurrendem Magen im Restaurant ZUM DOMSTEIN gelandet. Im Außenbeleuchtung war ein Tisch frei, also nahmen wir, im Schatten eines großen Schirmes" mitten in dè Trierer Altstadt, Platz. Die Kellnerin kam sehr schnell, obwohl die Tische gut besetzt waren. Sie war sehr freundlich und nett und konnte ein Späßchen verstehen. Unsere Getränke waren gut gekühlt. Das Essen, wurde heiß serviert: 1x Hirschragout - dazu gab es ein Apfelkompott und 1x Spießbraten dazu wurde ein frischer Salat gereicht, war ausgesprochen lecker. War reichlich und wir mussten nicht allzulange warten. Auf unsere Wünsche, wie Kroketten - statt Spätzle, wurde problemlos eingegangen. Die Toiletten waren sauber, Papier und waren Seife vorhanden. Der Restaurantinnenraum ist sehenswert. Wir können nichts Negatives finden und empfehlen gerne einen Besuch.

Tijdens een bezoek in Trier waren we op zoek naar een plekje op het terras om met 7 personen wat te drinken en te lunchen. Er was genoeg plek alleen beschikte dit terras enkel over tafeltjes voor maximaal 4 personen. We probeerde een mevrouw van de bediening aan te spreken met de vraag of er 2 tafeltjes naast elkaar geschoven kon worden. Deze mevrouw liep ons een paar keer voorbij zonder wat terug te zeggen en keek af en toe heel boos naar onze kinderen die te lagen te slapen in de kinderwagen. Toen we nogmaals vroegen of ze een plekje voor ons kon maken snauwde ze heel boos NEE en liep gelijk door. Andere gasten op het terras hadden dit opgemerkt. Één koppel op het terras vertelde ons dat deze mevrouw uit de bediening ook heel onbeleefd naar hun toe deed en ze daarom al hadden besloten om ergens anders te gaan lunchen. Een ander stel aan een tafel gaf aan dat het eten tevens ook zeer slecht bereid was en deze door de bediening zuchtend aan tafel werd geserveerd. Ga hier dus niet naar toe!

Situated right in the centre of Trier, this restaurant offers lots of dishes and also a wine tasting menu. The staff are very friendly and it is a lovely place to come on a sunny day!

Five of us came for a beer in the late afternoon and were allowed to sit in the cellar. We were all very impressed by the room and its Roman ambience! The service was very friendly, interested and worked quickly. But it's still only four stars because we came back the next day and wanted to have another beer, but the place was just closing before 10 p.m. That surprised us, especially because of the central location and the activity that was still happening on the square.

The Roman dishes are exceptional and very tasty.

Ich habe ein komplett antik römisches Menü gehabt, und die kulinarische Zeitreise mit jedem Bissen genossen. Das Essen wurde schnell serviert, war wirklich sehr lecker, und die Bedienung äußerst zuvorkommend und sehr freundlich. Selbst Sonderwünsche wurden erfüllt, und ich fühlte mich wirklich sehr gut betreut und beraten. Ich habe die Zeit im Restaurant zum Domstein wirklich genossen, und kann die negativen Bewertungen wirklich nicht verstehen.

The menu based on ancient Roman cuisine appears on just one page of the menu, and it's worth taking your cell phone to do the translations - they didn't give us a menu in English, as it was in Latin and German (however, we didn't get to ask for a menu in English , although we were speaking in English with the attendant). Mulsum, a Roman drink, has a very different flavor and is worth trying. As a dish we ordered tapas, which were small portions of food typical of Ancient Rome. It was very worth the visit, and the price is appropriate.

Centrally local in the square, you can’t miss it. During tourist season they have outdoor seating but they have a back patio as well. Food is good, wines are amazing and service can be hit or miss but most servers do speak a little English. Great place to people watch! Highly recommend their soups!

The Domstein kitchen impresses with its clear plate language and consistent quality; you can tell that recipes are being cooked here. The staff is friendly and attentive. My wife and I ordered Trier-style spit roast here. This is served with french fries and salad. My wife wanted potato dumplings... no problem!!! Everything came as ordered! The meat was very tender and not stringy. Advice on wine selection. Wine tasting is welcome. The ambience suits the restaurant and Trier's old town. The prices are reasonable! The service was quick and very friendly. Arni would say: I'll be back! And I will definitely come back! Thanks to the service and chef!!!!!

Super cozy shop and really great service. I asked for white wine without a lot of acid and was allowed to taste it. I found the absolutely perfect wine for me. I couldn't decide what to eat and the recommendation the nice waitress gave me was perfect. Thank you again. My husband had a schnitzel with fries and unfortunately they were missing salt. Of course, you can add more salt... but it's not the same. Straight after the deep fryer is simply better.

Service was really bad. We were basically chased away before we even finished our meal. Waitress was very loud with moving furniture around the place. After dinner no initiative was taken to let us order a second drink or to even get the bill. Food was edible but not good.

Das Essen aus dem römischen Kochbuch war hervorragend und wirklich etwas besonderes. Schön auch die Möglichkeit der unterschiedlichen Weinproben. Der Service war sehr gut. Auch für Vegetarier und Veganer gibt es gute Auswahl an Gerichten

Das Schnitzel war so das schlechteste was mir in den letzten Jahren vorgesetzt wurde. Über Geschmack lässt sich bekanntlich streiten, nicht aber über die Qualität, und das war eine glatte sechs, TK Produkt mit einer üblen Soße. Das einzige Positive war die Freundlichkeit der Bedienung. Kann ich leider nicht weiterempfehlen.

Scandalous. It was a busy time indeed, we went in around 14:00 for coffee and dessert. There was a table free, we asked if we could sit. The waiter looked at us and said no. The couple of older ladies behind us asked if they could sit, and the waiter told them yes of course… no hospitality whatsoever. There is no excuse to treat people like this! I put one star because I was forced to.

Restaurant en plein centre ville, sur la place principale. Décor viticole. Très bonne cuisine de brasserie, en quantité et qualité. Service très professionnel. Choix (viandes, poissons, pâtes, salades, …) à des prix corrects. Belle carte de vins presque exclusivement allemands, prix très raisonnables. Bref resto très sympa.

Belle adresse et cuisine roborative, dans le bon sens du terme. De la bonne choucroute en accompagnement d'une excellente cuisse de volaille et un plat très gourmand de ragoût de gibier ont ravi nos papilles. Le tout avec un très bon vin blanc de la Moselle. Ajoutez-y deux cafés pour moins de 80 euros, ce restaurant vaut le détour.

We hebben het restaurant bezocht tijdens de kerstmarkt. Gelukkig was er zonder reservering nog een tafeltje vrij. Het was helaas wel een kleine tafel waar iedereen die binnenkwam vlak langsliep. We hadden pasta met Parmezaan besteld (Parmezaan stond voor 1 euro op de kaart). We kregen de verkeerde pasta. Toen we dit aangaven, werd er verschillend op gereageerd door het personeel (verontschuldigend en onverschillig). We hebben wel de goede pasta gekregen, maar zonder Parmezaan. Toen we vroegen of we deze alsnog konden krijgen, was het antwoord 'nee'. Het eten en de wijn smaakte wel en de inrichting was prima, maar doordat iedereen vlak langs onze tafel liep en we het verkeerde gerecht kregen, hebben we niet rustig kunnen eten.

Wir durften heute Abend in diesem schönen Restaurant platz nehmen. Die Lauchsuppe vorweg haben wir uns zwei geteilt und waren wirklich begeistert! Die Getränke kommen sehr schnell, aber ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass man zwischenzeitlich nochmal nachfragt hätte, zu mindestens nur Getränketechnisch. Bezüglich des Essens wurde je Gang einmal gefragt, was ich sehr aufmerksam fand. Die Portionen waren auch sehr ordentlich, sodass leider für ein Nachtisch kein Platz mehr war. Fazit: Wir sind auf jedenfall sehr zufrieden und kommen gerne nächstes mal wieder!
