They found us a table on a busy night. Service was good. The Schnitzel was great, and do was the sliced roast pork in red wine sauce with hash browns and salad. Decent place, great prices.

For a day trip to the Christmas market in Trier, I made a last-minute reservation for lunch today. Very friendly welcome, cozy atmosphere, attentive service, delicious pasta dish with an excellent side salad (which I ordered separately). Generous portions and reasonable prices. I would gladly come back anytime.

We used to eat at this restaurant quite often a few years ago. We always enjoyed the delicious Roman dishes, but this time we were disappointed to find that the Roman main courses had disappeared from the menu. That was a real shame 🤔 Luckily, they've kept the mulsum and the Roman appetizers, so a little bit of Roman culture has been preserved. The food is still delicious, and you can still eat here.

The food was fantastic. We sat in a cozy alcove, which was perfect for conversations with friends. Unfortunately, it seems the restaurant is closing soon; the "Roman menus" are no longer on the menu.

Domstein is a traditional German pub, furnished as a German pub should be. Good choice of food - traditional, tasty and hearty - Schnitzel wiener Art. Good selection of Moselle wines and Bavarian beers. Service efficient. Excellent location on the main square - attracts locals and tourists.

Very friendly and attentive service. The Roman dishes on the special menu are delicious and definitely something you don't try often. You have to wait a bit for them to get used to them because you're not used to the combinations. But after the first bite, it tastes excellent. I was very satisfied; the trip from Munich was worth it.

Weinstube Zum Domstein offers a hearty dining experience with an open kitchen throughout the day. I’ve visited many times in the late afternoon for a late lunch. The menu features traditional Roman dishes, and the freshly drafted beer is served quickly. Cash and card payments are accepted.

It's in a super central location on the market square, and prices are reasonable and fair. Reservations are recommended for weekend evenings. A must-visit for my next visit to Trier.

Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. We went without a reservation and were lucky to get a table because it was so early (5 p.m.). A short while later, it was quite full, and a reservation would definitely have been better.

We were lucky enough to get a table on Saturday. We stuck to the Roman menu and were not disappointed. It was very tasty, and the beef stew would have been enough for two. The service was very friendly and helpful. We'd be happy to return.

There is nothing to complain about!

We were honestly a little nervous about coming here because we'd read some bad reviews beforehand, but thankfully, it was completely unfounded! The service was super friendly and attentive, and we immediately felt at home. We were particularly impressed with the appetizers: the tapas platter with Roman specialties was varied and truly delicious, especially the pearl barley salad. We also appreciated that the wine rolls were served with every main course. Among the main courses, we were particularly impressed by the carrot and zucchini mixture with its thick, slightly sweet sauce, and the chicken with vegetables was also excellent. The goulash was classically delicious, and the suckling pig came with a very intense plum sauce, which some might find a little less overpowering. To finish, there was a really good pear casserole. We were pleasantly surprised and would gladly come back! 💓

The wine bar also has a restaurant with a traditional menu. A good wine list. The food was delicious 😋😋

The "Roman Menu" is an absolute highlight! Based on "The Roman Cookbook" by Apicius, it is highly recommended for those who want to complement the ancient city with a taste experience.

The Roman food we ordered left us with very mixed impressions. The starter, the tapas plate with five dishes, was quite good. The barley soup included was delicious, and the sausages with almond pieces were very interesting and left us wanting more. We were equally impressed with the bowl of vegetables. The roast suckling pig with plum sauce tasted okay. However, the sauce was too thick for me. The chicken with a side dish from the hydro-oven (steam oven) was also only okay, as it had little seasoning. The side salad was also good. Overall, we wouldn't order the Roman food again. The menu offers sufficient alternatives. Despite everything, we can certainly imagine eating at the wine bar again on our next visit to Trier.

Unfortunately, not a single star. The food was terrible. The salmon was overcooked. The venison goulash was a mess thrown over the spaetzle. And they left it there for a total of 85 euros. Terrible. Not recommended.

Good food and friendly service!

We spontaneously stopped by for dinner around 8 p.m. Unfortunately, there were no free tables outside, but we were immediately offered a nice window seat in the restaurant. The food was very good, and the service was also good. We'd love to come back!

Excellent traditional cuisine. We had absolutely delicious dishes! We recommend the deer ragout and the roasted pork, both were divine 😋. The service is super friendly 👌 It made our day in Trier even ore enjoyable.

We ate outside in the fresh air…

We actually only wanted to stop there for a fun wine tasting, but the attentive and very friendly service from Max and Noah persuaded us to take a look at the menu. We found what we were looking for there, and as a special treat, we were able to try some ancient Roman-style food, which we then rounded off with two entrees and dessert. Then, on their recommendation, we tried a kind of yellow Jägermeister and found the evening there to be a complete success. Thank you very much, and keep up the good work!

A quaintly decorated restaurant in the style of a brewery, with lovely booths and plenty of tables inside and outside. Excellent cuisine with a focus on German dishes, which prompted us to eat there twice in our three days in Trier. "Beef roulade with red cabbage and dumplings": where can you find something like that these days, and of excellent quality and deliciousness? A good wine list, very friendly service—in short: highly recommended!

Being a vegetarian, it's not always easy to find a restaurant with dishes for me. In this restaurant, no problem in this regard, a logo clearly indicates the vegan and vegetarian options. The pasta dish with wild garlic oil and tomatoes was very good

Extremely rude staff. We were snapped at by a young waiter at the entrance. Not recommended, and they won't be seeing us again. It was also full of wasps.

The salmon noodles and the Maultaschen were tasteless. The pasta sauce was watery and tasteless, and the Maultaschen were also tasteless and dry.

The ambiance was pleasant, the service was generally friendly, the "Roman food" was okay, but the "Italian Rösti with Salad" was at best snack-quality and was a ready-made meal—just served. Disappointing.

What's really cool here is the option to try "real" Roman cuisine. The service is very polite, friendly, and attentive. It's a bit touristy, but definitely worth doing.

We visited this restaurant with the intention of sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful weather. Unfortunately, we encountered a problem that spoiled the evening before we even took our first bite. Although several four-seater tables outside were occupied by only two people, there was no willingness to accommodate us. Our polite request to see if one of the large tables could be converted into two two-seater tables to make room for us was met with a stunned look from the waiter, who looked at us in astonishment—almost as if we had made a completely unreasonable request. This blatant lack of flexibility and willingness to serve was truly irritating. Given this reaction, we decided to leave the restaurant and try our luck elsewhere. It's a shame when simple solutions for guests are ignored and the service is so unfriendly. We therefore cannot recommend this restaurant if you are hoping for accommodating and service-oriented service.

schnitzel with the mushroom cream sauce was really good. the creamy sauce was so good i wanted to drink. They have some zero alcohol options too so it was great. Have terrace into the back and also tables in the front over looking the plaza.

Outside under the parasol, with the Old Town Festival all around. I ate the salad because it was very warm. It tasted delicious, and the staff was great. 👍

Outstanding, competent, and extremely family-friendly service! We were a group of six adults and four children (ages 6-9), and we hadn't had such a relaxed restaurant experience in a long time. The Roman appetizers and the rösti were our meal highlights.

We had been walking around for a while to eat somewhere, always treated badly or they made you wait. And then we came to this one and immediately received friendly and continuously asked if everything was to our liking, delicious food and when we wanted coffee outside (husband smokes) they immediately arranged a table. While looking for a place with good, home-style cooking, we were recommended the Weinstube am Domstein. We sat in the back area, which didn't feel particularly cozy. The delicious food and the very friendly and attentive staff more than made up for it.

We enjoyed authentic food there, just like the ancient Romans did 2000 years ago. If you have a thing for exceptional cuisine, you will definitely find what you are looking for there. We're always happy to come by when we're nearby.

If you want to get to know a completely different taste, you should try the Roman-made dishes. Great! We We've been there for the third time now and were really impressed again. We would be there more often if the distance wasn't so great. (300km). If we're in the area again, we'll definitely be there to eat again. Tip. Reserve a table by phone.

Nice location with a good menu.

I was very pleased with my dinner here and would gladly eat here again. Nice traditional atmosphere and good service. My Domherrensuppe was very good and I loved the Rinderoulade with red cabbage & dumplings. And my beer was excellent.

A disappointment. We were looking forward to eating in the Roman room downstairs but it wasn’t open. The Roman food was an interesting idea but the execution was lacking eg the olives were canned, the soup too salty. The sausages were ok. The wine flight was TERRIBLE.

The restaurant is centrally located on the main market in Trier. The food sometimes varies a bit. Today the fries were only lukewarm and the onion skewer roast had finely chopped peppers on it. Things were better when we visited last week. The staff is friendly.

We had a Wiener Schnitzel and a pork steak. Both very tasty. The personal service was very good. However, the menu is quite cumbersome to use and sometimes not very informative. It's no fun choosing something there. When we tried to get more information online, we discovered that the menu on the restaurant's website was no longer up to date. Too bad.

The Weinstube Zum Domstein is an excellent restaurant for dining. It offers excellent value for money. Friendly staff and well-presented dishes. Other restaurants in the city center could follow this example. It's definitely worth enjoying a delicious meal at this restaurant. You have the opportunity to sample different wines with your meal. And the dessert was particularly delicious.

I was visiting Trier with my son, who is one of the rare people who (like me) has Latin as a second foreign language. The wine bar with its remarkable selection of Roman dishes was of course a must (thanks to AI tip!). Great and freshly prepared, you can feel like a legionnaire with barley soup but also a bit like a patrician when it comes to lamb or ham in a completely different way :-) Great thing and double thumbs up

We went there on a Sunday for brunch. We ordered pork chop and spaghetti with vegetables both were delicious 😋. They recommended white beer of a brand and we tried that. That was also good. Overall we had a good experience. I think the place is very popular because when we left the place all the tables were already booked. Above all, the place is located exactly at the city center and that is why it gives a wonderful view 🪟

There is such a thing as ancient Roman cuisine. The venison was delicious. Well, I don't think I was eating anything like this back then, but it's worth a try.

We celebrated our wedding there last year and it was very nice. Even our slightly larger dog was allowed inside. Kudos to the staff and the kitchen.

Very traditional wine bar. There were two of us here and we just wanted a glass of wine. The wine selection was very good and the restaurant was well attended. I would recommend making a reservation. The food is very classic and appeals to more traditional dietary habits. Unfortunately, there are no themed vegan dishes. A platter of fruit, vegetables, bread and spreads would have been great and could have persuaded us to stay.

A beautiful, atmospheric place, just right if you're longing for a quieter pace. There is food (I was served very well and promptly, the Quiche Lorraine was good, but I also ordered cheese for the wine tasting as it was a bit small, hence 4*) to try wines... You immerse yourself in another time. I didn't feel like I was with the Romans, but somewhere between the German wine bar culture and Bilbo's pantry culture, but above all I felt comfortable, full and in good hands. Located in Trier's pedestrian zone, you can also drink wine while you're there, so it's best to leave your car and take public transport :).

Went to Domstein for lunch on February 9th. From the large menu we chose two schnitzels with hunter sauce and one Maultaschen in tomato sauce. As a starter, the Lucanian sausages with beans. What can I say: The beans were good, the sausages were rather poorly seasoned, but the ancient Romans weren't that keen on seasoning either, I once read. Unfortunately, the Jägerschnitzel was absolutely tasteless, both meat and the sauce. The pasta was ok so far, but I could have guessed for myself that the combination of dumplings filled with spinach and spicy tomato sauce wasn't so happy. Service was great, the gentleman who served us was friendly, competent and very helpful, for that 5 stars. The atmosphere is old, but it was pretty and clean too. But we wouldn't go there again for dinner for the time being, I think there are better places in Trier.

Uno dei migliori ristoranti provati in Germania. Locale molto centrale a Trier eppure per nulla turistico. Ambiente classico curato e servizio molto attento. Ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo (circa 56€ per due piatti principali e due birre). Consigliatissimi il secondo a base di cervo con salsa alle mele oppure la schnitzel.

We came across the wine bar through hunger and chance. We searched for a long time and found this restaurant the best. Short and sweet: Service was very quick, friendly and not intrusive at all. As soon as we had our drinks, our food arrived 10 minutes later. We were served venison ragout twice. It was really indescribably good and put a smile on our faces. Of course there was also a wine tasting with wine exchange, as it was too bitter. Everything for the benefit of the “customer”. Since the wine was so good and we really liked it, we bought it as a bottle. The music was calm and appropriate, the ambience was warm and welcoming. Please stay like this, when we come back it should be exactly the same as today. Thanks for the stay! We'll be back. 😁

We went to eat there off and on for years. The quality of the food and the taste has deteriorated a lot, what a shame! Price-performance ratio is no longer good, so our money no longer stays there.

Heureusement qu’il y a du chauffage ! Service très froid voire glacial. En ce qui concerne les plats, rien de particulier, frites surgelés et présentation qui laisse à désirer. Le prix n’est en revanche (et heureusement) pas excessif. En conclusion, cela fait l’affaire si les autres établissements sont complets mais n’en attendez pas grand chose.

We stopped by during our visit to the Trier Christmas market. Very friendly and capable waitresses. It's important to you that your guests are happy and we were. The schnitzel and the Rösti Ital. Art was very good and the beer was well chilled.

On Saturday we had dinner with the family at Domstein (grandma, aunt, mom and me). The service was super warm, professional and we felt very comfortable. The food was also very tasty and tasted something completely different (we had something from the Roman menu). Although the store was full (Saturday evening Christmas market), everything went very quickly without seeming hectic. I'm a hotel manager myself and I'm super critical when it comes to eating out, but we all felt very comfortable here and would love to come back. Clear recommendation and make sure you keep your team like this! Thank you for the lovely evening 😊 PS: There is also a large and diverse selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes!

A disappointing experience overall. The food was average at best. Regarding service, we were informed that our table was reserved until 6:30. However, at 5:30, when we wanted to order dessert, the staff rudely told us we couldn’t because the table was booked for 6:00. Even if that were the case, we still had 30 minutes left. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place.

The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the service was friendly. However, I have never eaten such bad dumplings in any restaurant - definitely not homemade, tastes like ready-made powder. However, the meat was surprisingly tender and good. On the whole, more of a tourist restaurant.

We had a really delicious meal. Our meat was super tender and perfectly cooked the way we like it. The service went smoothly, everyone was friendly and very helpful. I have no comments whatsoever. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want good food in Trier.
