Weinstube Zum Domstein in Trier

Outstanding, competent, and extremely family-friendly service! We were a group of six adults and four children (ages 6-9), and we hadn't had such a relaxed restaurant experience in a long time. The Roman appetizers and the rösti were our meal highlights.

We loved the place. The restaurant is very beautiful, the food was very tasty and the service was excellent!

We had been walking around for a while to eat somewhere, always treated badly or they made you wait. And then we came to this one and immediately received friendly and continuously asked if everything was to our liking, delicious food and when we wanted coffee outside (husband smokes) they immediately arranged a table. It was cozy inside and outside really recommended.

First night in Trier ate here. Central and delicious food. Very nice service!

While looking for a place with good, home-style cooking, we were recommended the Weinstube am Domstein. We sat in the back area, which didn't feel particularly cozy. The delicious food and the very friendly and attentive staff more than made up for it.

The Roman dishes were delicious, with a different flavor. The service was quick and friendly. We were happy to have ended up there.

A great restaurant!!! We were there in the afternoon for a snack and a short break, and because we enjoyed it so much, we returned for dinner. Rustic, homemade German cuisine. Delicious!!! The prices are very reasonable.

A solid menu, but rather mainstream cuisine for tourists. Decent quality, but nothing you'll remember a week later. The wine tastings are quite playful, served on attractive wooden vine leaves.

We enjoyed authentic food there, just like the ancient Romans did 2000 years ago. If you have a thing for exceptional cuisine, you will definitely find what you are looking for there. We're always happy to come by when we're nearby.

If you want to get to know a completely different taste, you should try the Roman-made dishes. Great! We We've been there for the third time now and were really impressed again. We would be there more often if the distance wasn't so great. (300km). If we're in the area again, we'll definitely be there to eat again. Tip. Reserve a table by phone.

Nice location with a good menu.

A disappointment. We were looking forward to eating in the Roman room downstairs but it wasn’t open. The Roman food was an interesting idea but the execution was lacking eg the olives were canned, the soup too salty. The sausages were ok. The wine flight was TERRIBLE.

I was very pleased with my dinner here and would gladly eat here again. Nice traditional atmosphere and good service. My Domherrensuppe was very good and I loved the Rinderoulade with red cabbage & dumplings. And my beer was excellent.

The restaurant is centrally located on the main market in Trier. The food sometimes varies a bit. Today the fries were only lukewarm and the onion skewer roast had finely chopped peppers on it. Things were better when we visited last week. The staff is friendly.

We had a Wiener Schnitzel and a pork steak. Both very tasty. The personal service was very good. However, the menu is quite cumbersome to use and sometimes not very informative. It's no fun choosing something there. When we tried to get more information online, we discovered that the menu on the restaurant's website was no longer up to date. Too bad.

Friendly welcome. Good dishes. Good desserts. Good beer. Good wine from the region.

The Weinstube Zum Domstein is an excellent restaurant for dining. It offers excellent value for money. Friendly staff and well-presented dishes. Other restaurants in the city center could follow this example. It's definitely worth enjoying a delicious meal at this restaurant. You have the opportunity to sample different wines with your meal. And the dessert was particularly delicious.

I was visiting Trier with my son, who is one of the rare people who (like me) has Latin as a second foreign language. The wine bar with its remarkable selection of Roman dishes was of course a must (thanks to AI tip!). Great and freshly prepared, you can feel like a legionnaire with barley soup but also a bit like a patrician when it comes to lamb or ham in a completely different way :-) Great thing and double thumbs up

We went there on a Sunday for brunch. We ordered pork chop and spaghetti with vegetables both were delicious 😋. They recommended white beer of a brand and we tried that. That was also good. Overall we had a good experience. I think the place is very popular because when we left the place all the tables were already booked. Above all, the place is located exactly at the city center and that is why it gives a wonderful view 🪟

There is such a thing as ancient Roman cuisine. The venison was delicious. Well, I don't think I was eating anything like this back then, but it's worth a try.

We celebrated our wedding there last year and it was very nice. Even our slightly larger dog was allowed inside. Kudos to the staff and the kitchen.

Very traditional wine bar. There were two of us here and we just wanted a glass of wine. The wine selection was very good and the restaurant was well attended. I would recommend making a reservation. The food is very classic and appeals to more traditional dietary habits. Unfortunately, there are no themed vegan dishes. A platter of fruit, vegetables, bread and spreads would have been great and could have persuaded us to stay.

If you ever find yourself in Trier, this restaurant is highly recommended. The food tastes great, the staff are extremely friendly and the atmosphere is great too.

A beautiful, atmospheric place, just right if you're longing for a quieter pace. There is food (I was served very well and promptly, the Quiche Lorraine was good, but I also ordered cheese for the wine tasting as it was a bit small, hence 4*) to try wines... You immerse yourself in another time. I didn't feel like I was with the Romans, but somewhere between the German wine bar culture and Bilbo's pantry culture, but above all I felt comfortable, full and in good hands. Located in Trier's pedestrian zone, you can also drink wine while you're there, so it's best to leave your car and take public transport :).

Went to Domstein for lunch on February 9th. From the large menu we chose two schnitzels with hunter sauce and one Maultaschen in tomato sauce. As a starter, the Lucanian sausages with beans. What can I say: The beans were good, the sausages were rather poorly seasoned, but the ancient Romans weren't that keen on seasoning either, I once read. Unfortunately, the Jägerschnitzel was absolutely tasteless, both meat and the sauce. The pasta was ok so far, but I could have guessed for myself that the combination of dumplings filled with spinach and spicy tomato sauce wasn't so happy. Service was great, the gentleman who served us was friendly, competent and very helpful, for that 5 stars. The atmosphere is old, but it was pretty and clean too. But we wouldn't go there again for dinner for the time being, I think there are better places in Trier.

In my opinion the best restaurant in Trier!

We came across the wine bar through hunger and chance. We searched for a long time and found this restaurant the best. Short and sweet: Service was very quick, friendly and not intrusive at all. As soon as we had our drinks, our food arrived 10 minutes later. We were served venison ragout twice. It was really indescribably good and put a smile on our faces. Of course there was also a wine tasting with wine exchange, as it was too bitter. Everything for the benefit of the “customer”. Since the wine was so good and we really liked it, we bought it as a bottle. The music was calm and appropriate, the ambience was warm and welcoming. Please stay like this, when we come back it should be exactly the same as today. Thanks for the stay! We'll be back. 😁

Uno dei migliori ristoranti provati in Germania. Locale molto centrale a Trier eppure per nulla turistico. Ambiente classico curato e servizio molto attento. Ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo (circa 56€ per due piatti principali e due birre). Consigliatissimi il secondo a base di cervo con salsa alle mele oppure la schnitzel.

We went to eat there off and on for years. The quality of the food and the taste has deteriorated a lot, what a shame! Price-performance ratio is no longer good, so our money no longer stays there.

Heureusement qu’il y a du chauffage ! Service très froid voire glacial. En ce qui concerne les plats, rien de particulier, frites surgelés et présentation qui laisse à désirer. Le prix n’est en revanche (et heureusement) pas excessif. En conclusion, cela fait l’affaire si les autres établissements sont complets mais n’en attendez pas grand chose.

We stopped by during our visit to the Trier Christmas market. Very friendly and capable waitresses. It's important to you that your guests are happy and we were. The schnitzel and the Rösti Ital. Art was very good and the beer was well chilled.

Bien situé dans la ville, ambiance typique, carte classique et bien préparée… mais sans plus. Accueil peu chaleureux voire service frisquet …. Mais cela dépend de la personne qui vous sert, nous c’était très moyen.

On Saturday we had dinner with the family at Domstein (grandma, aunt, mom and me). The service was super warm, professional and we felt very comfortable. The food was also very tasty and tasted something completely different (we had something from the Roman menu). Although the store was full (Saturday evening Christmas market), everything went very quickly without seeming hectic. I'm a hotel manager myself and I'm super critical when it comes to eating out, but we all felt very comfortable here and would love to come back. Clear recommendation and make sure you keep your team like this! Thank you for the lovely evening 😊 PS: There is also a large and diverse selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes!

A disappointing experience overall. The food was average at best. Regarding service, we were informed that our table was reserved until 6:30. However, at 5:30, when we wanted to order dessert, the staff rudely told us we couldn’t because the table was booked for 6:00. Even if that were the case, we still had 30 minutes left. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place.

We had a really delicious meal. Our meat was super tender and perfectly cooked the way we like it. The service went smoothly, everyone was friendly and very helpful. I have no comments whatsoever. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want good food in Trier.

The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the service was friendly. However, I have never eaten such bad dumplings in any restaurant - definitely not homemade, tastes like ready-made powder. However, the meat was surprisingly tender and good. On the whole, more of a tourist restaurant.

Uriges Ambiente und zünftige Speisen! Highlight natürlich die römischen Gerichte aus einem Kochbuch des 9. Jahrhunderts. Römische Vorspeisen, Spießbraten und Rumpsteak waren top.

Snelle hap rond de middag. Goed voor lunch , spaghetti genomen. Weg van de minste weerstand. Zag rondom mij nogal wat borden , die niet volledig waren opgegeten.

Ich hatte für unseren Jahresausflug den historischen Weinkeller im Restaurant Zum Domstein erst per Mail und dann telefonisch für 13 Personen reserviert. Als wir dort pünktlich um 20h ankamen hieß es der Weinkeller wäre voll und wir müssen in der Gaststätte Platz nehmen. Die Enttäuschung war groß bei uns. Denn wir hatten das Restaurant wegen dem besonderen Weinkeller ausgesucht. Dem entsprechend war die Stimmung in der Gruppe. Aus Neugierde bin ich dann in den Weinkeller gegangen um zu schauen ob wirklich alles belegt war. Zu meiner großen Überraschung war der Winkeller nur knapp zur Hälfte belegt. Auf Nachfrage wurde mir vom Service mitgeteilt das aufgrund von Personalmangel unten nicht mehr Personen sitzen können. Warum kann man das nicht im Vorfeld kommunizieren und warum wird man so vor Ort als Gruppe vorgeführt. Zumal ich die Reservierung schon vor 2 Monaten schriftlich gemacht habe. Leider konnte dann im Gastraum keine wirklich gute Stimmung entstehen da wir bereits um 21.45h zum Zahlen aufgefordert worden sind. Warum hat man uns bei der Reservierung nicht darauf aufmerksam gemacht. Dann hätten wir ja reagieren können und wären früher gekommen. Ich verstehe das durch den Personalmangel große Herausforderungen zu bewältigen sind. Aber mit solch schlechter Kommunikation hab ich bei einem solch renommierten Restaurant im Herzen der Altstadt Triers nicht gerechnet. Gruppe Bad Schönborn Klaus Heinzmann

1 hour and 15 minutes before the restaurant closed, the service had to be "persuaded" to let us sit down for a glass of wine. It was no longer possible to buy a bottle, even though the restaurant was still busy.

Old rustic wine bar that has its charm. Located right in the city center which makes the parking situation difficult. There are also seats in front of the restaurant. The portion of the food was sufficient. I had to add a little seasoning, but that's okay. I would have liked a little more wine flavor in both the red cabbage and the goulash in a wine bar. It just came across as very delicate. Otherwise it was fine. The service was very friendly. The atmosphere is quite rustic but neat and clean. All in all good.

Today we had ancient Roman food, you should definitely try it. We had the Roman starter plate (very rich) and ham in myrtle-fig sauce and my husband had suckling pig in peacock sauce. These were completely different spices but really delicious and very Highly recommended if you don't want the usual monotony. Service was also great. Conclusion: full recommendation.

We really enjoyed the visit, especially with the concept of trying old Roman dishes. We took the starter mix and one main course each. We enjoyed everything very much and the service was quick too 👍 The beer is also recommended 😉

Nice atmosphere in a central location. Unfortunately, the food was just mediocre and very overpriced for the quality. Not recommended.

Nice location in the middle of Trier. Authentic and everything is neat. The food is good and the banana Weizen is highly recommended. When we made the reservation it was said that there would be little space and we had little choice, but that turned out not to be so bad.

There are no spices in the kitchen, the only thing available is a pile of frozen goods. The "Wiener Schnitzel" came straight from the freezer and had no taste.

The concept of Roman dishes is interesting in itself, but I think the portions are too small and the service wasn't particularly good either. The wine rolls, which according to the menu are part of the dish, were only brought to us upon request.

What a great place to dine in after a day out exploring the city. Warmly welcomed by the staff and a lovely atmosphere. Ordered my food and drinks and chilled while i waited. When the food arrived it was well presented, hot and fresh. The side salad had a lovely taste, a great accompaniment to the Wiener schnitzel. I took my time eating, as i was enjoying it so much. The schnitzel was cooked to a turn, so tasty and delicious, it certainly went down a treat. I had been craving schnitzel all day and I'm so glad i discovered this restaurant as it was the best ending to my visit to Trier, before heading back to Luxembourg. I left the restaurant with a full and very contented tummy. My compliments to the chef on giving me a fantastic dinner and the service staff for the great welcome.

The schnitzel is not recommended… Salad dressing tastes very artificial. Too bad.

Service gut, Essen Katastrophal. Salat nicht frisch und mit einem Haar offen am Rand. Hätte man sehen müssen! „Holzfäller“Steak war nur ein kleines blanko Schnitzel mit fertig Röstzwiebeln. Nudeln mit Lachs war trocken und Fischig. Wienerschnitzel war OK. Putensteak war trocken!

Unfortunately had some drinks here. Staff was not friendly. We therefore decided not to eat here. No further tip given. Even though we are tourists, we should be treated in a friendly manner.

The service and the ambience, especially in the courtyard area, are worth seeing. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to snuff. Everything was well prepared, but very bland in taste. There was a lot of spice missing. Unfortunately, the soups tasted more like finished goods. Overall, it's worth a visit for a drink, but unfortunately we didn't enjoy the hearty food.

When we are in Trier, the Domstein is a must. I love the “old” Roman dishes.

Unfriendly and rude staff. We came with six people and were not allowed to sit anywhere. It was not possible to push tables together or add chairs to a four-person table. This meant that we had nowhere to sit together.

We had dinner there at the end of our visit to the city of Trier. There is seating outside on the shopping street, inside and in a spacious courtyard. We sat comfortably and protected from the sun in the courtyard. The food was, there is no other way to say it, simply of a high standard. It was delicious and the prices were normal. The service was friendly and the food came quickly. The children are also thought of. There were crayons, something to color in and a children's menu with a good selection. My wife had a cheese-filled vegetable pocket, I had the Trier spit roast, which was so tasty and tender that a knife seemed unnecessary, and our son had the fries and schnitzel dish, with a schnitzel that deserved the name (and not some warmed-up junk like in the restaurant near Lichtenberg Castle) I found the selection of dishes based on original Roman recipes interesting, but we didn't try them because it was our departure day. Since we only had one dish each, I unfortunately can't make a specific recommendation. Judging by our order, I also expect the same high quality of other dishes. The sanitary facilities are probably from the 1970s.

Very tasty salad plate eaten on our trip to Trier. You have to try the Roman rolls. The garden behind the house is very nice to sit in.

Bad treatment by the staff, nothing to smile about

We ate delicious tapas with a nice glass of wine. The stube is very tastefully decorated with bottles in all kinds of ways. Friendly staff, in short, we had a wonderful evening!

Zeer mooie zaak op de markt van Trier. Het keldergedeelte was niet open, wat eigenlijk het doel was van ons bezoek,jammer.

Het regende maar buiten staan er paraplu’s waaronder je droog kan zitten. Binnen was er geen plaats zonder reservering dus onvriendelijk buiten gewerkt. Dan maar, omdat er buiten een bordje met de vermelding stond „bij regen buiten geen bediening“ wij naar binnen om zelf drankjes af te halen. We waren nog vlugger buiten dan gehoopt want drinken van binnen naar buiten meenemen was „ not done“ werd ons nogmaals op een onvriendelijke wijze duidelijk gemaakt.

We were in Trier for a few days and went there every now and then for a drink. We ate there once. Staff always very accommodating and super friendly. Food was very tasty. We can absolutely recommend it.

After a long journey and an interesting tour through the history of the city, we went to the Domstein for strength. After a manageable wine tasting, it was time for an outstanding meal based on Roman recipes from the cookbook “De re coquinaria”. It was a very successful evening in the historic inner courtyard, which was only diminished by the Austrian own goal at the European Championships 🏟️.

Absolute 5 stars! Very good food, decent portions!
