WATAMI Sushi & Grill in Gersthofen

I visited Watami just before the holidays. The reservation went well, and we got a seat for two. The tables were a bit too small, and the space was definitely too close to other, unfamiliar people, which made it difficult to be comfortable. The atmosphere in the restaurant was amazing. Beautiful decorations, a beautiful ceiling... Food was ordered via tablet, which turned out to be very simple and enjoyable. You didn't have to walk around like at other buffets. The downside is the wait for your food, as the waiter delivers it personally – luckily, the wait isn't long. Juices and water were an additional charge... As for the food, there wasn't a huge selection. The sushi tasted similar and didn't have many toppings. The "ramen" we ordered turned out to be dry noodles, which was a disappointment. The noodles, aside from being fatty, had no flavor whatsoever. The only thing that impressed me was the ice cream. It was delicious! It had a very pleasant texture and a sweet, unique flavor. I would visit this restaurant again just for the ice cream.

Pretty cool, the food is really good. Unfortunately, it feels totally impersonal because of the tablet. It just doesn't have any special feeling.

Everything was great! The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. They did forget one dish, but no matter, we ordered four courses with dessert, and the quality was truly excellent! The former KUKA building is fantastic (we sat upstairs) and, with its soft music and spacious layout, invites you to linger. Remember to reserve in advance! We've been there eight times since it opened, and nothing has changed. Highly recommended! 👍

I went there for dinner with my colleagues on November 28th, 2025. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the tablet ordering system to work at all. My tablet wasn't working properly that evening. I had to wait a very long time for the lamb skewers I ordered.

The food was, as always, superb. The selection is truly excellent, and this restaurant comes highly recommended for anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine. Ordering independently via tablet (iPad) is also very convenient, as you can constantly try new things… if you like it, you can order again… if it doesn't quite suit your taste, no big deal. You can pay according to the number and type of orders or opt for an all-you-can-eat option… you just need to mention it at the beginning. Service is based on the order in which orders are received. So, it's possible that not everyone will receive their food at the same time, but rather with a slight delay. It's not a big deal, though—it sorts itself out over time. I'm only deducting one star because the drinks had been sitting on the counter for quite a while before they were brought to us… but it was still acceptable. I find the ambiance a touch too cold… it could be a bit more inviting—hence the one-star deduction. ... I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant, as my criticism of the service and ambiance cannot claim to be universally valid (and there is nothing to criticize about the food - quite the opposite).

Watami in Augsburg-Gersthofen is always worth a visit. It boasts a special ambiance, plenty of space, and the food is consistently excellent! Once you get the hang of the clever tablet ordering system for the all-you-can-eat menu, everything runs like clockwork. Drinks arrive lightning fast, and you never have to wait long for your food after ordering – dishes that are supposed to be hot arrive piping hot, tables are cleared quickly, you always feel well taken care of, and the food tastes delicious! The all-you-can-eat option is perfect for trying a variety of dishes, and it's especially fun and a culinary delight for groups!

Really disappointed... the udon noodles were overcooked and tasteless – "with vegetables" apparently just meant spring onions and bean sprouts 😕 The beef skewer was bitterly burnt and tasteless, the food service was very haphazard, you can't really go wrong with fried food – prices are outrageous!!! I can't comment on the sushi, I didn't try it... the staff were very nice and friendly, really great – unfortunately, the same can't be said for the food! What a shame.

The staff is so incredibly friendly… unbelievably polite and attentive… I've rarely experienced such lovely service. The food arrives extremely quickly and tastes very fresh and delicious. 100% recommended! One small drawback… there's no salmon on the lunch menu… a real shame if that's still the case! I would have gladly paid more… but apparently that wasn't possible… although that was at least a year ago… perhaps they've changed it. The delivery time has been reduced from 10 minutes to 5 minutes now… I think that's fantastic!

We hadn't been to Watami in a long time. The restaurant was completely booked on both floors around 6:30 pm. The staff was very attentive, but unfortunately, we had to wait ages for the meat and side dishes. We even received some of the desserts while waiting in vain for our main courses. In short, you can't enjoy the food, or you lose your appetite because of the wait. It's a real shame... the quality of the food has also declined significantly.

Excellent value for money, the dishes are always something special. A great evening every time.

I think it's a shame that the food selection has been reduced; some dishes have simply been removed from the menu. For example, pan-fried salmon on salad or pan-fried tuna.

We were there for a corporate event with about 20 people and had made a reservation in advance. The reservation process was straightforward and extremely pleasant. The attendees were thrilled with the food and service. We'll be back :)

It was delicious, as always! The only thing that needs to be changed is the soy sauce. Unfortunately, it's way too salty.

The acoustics could be improved. The lighting is too dim for me, except for the logo on the wall, which is glaring.

Three and a half stars!!! Has sushi and more...but not everything...It's a matter of taste...Food is always up for debate...If you like sushi, this is the place for you...It's right at the main intersection of the motorway and expressway in Gersthofen...In/near Hery Park...

The concept is really good. You get a tablet for ordering, so you never have to wait for a waiter. The food is mostly very good, with only a few dishes, like the duck, not quite up to par. I think the price of €35 for the evening meal is reasonable.

We were there for the third time today and were incredibly disappointed. We (two families) took all-you-can-eat as usual. The selection of dishes was significantly smaller; now some dishes are offered with a €0.50 to €2.50 surcharge, even though it's advertised as all-you-can-eat. The portions are still quite small. Some of the food is cold or lukewarm, some orders didn't arrive, or they brought something that wasn't even ordered. Two hopelessly overwhelmed waiters hastily placed the food on the table, mumbling our corresponding letters as they passed. The tables were barely cleared, the dishes were piled up, and no one felt obligated to clear them. We had a vegan with us, and when she asked if there was a suitable dish, a waiter handed her a tattered flyer – there was no menu. The absolute shock came at the end, when we wanted to pay. It now costs €35 per guest, plus overpriced drinks and surcharges for individual dishes. The only highlight of the restaurant is ordering via tablet and the good sushi. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is no longer good. It's a real shame; we won't be eating there again and unfortunately can't recommend it to anyone.

Very strange service; dishes within a round sometimes arrived 15 minutes apart, and we only received drinks after 20 minutes even though we had ordered with the first round. Prices were too high for the poor quality. The staff were nevertheless very friendly and polite. We got a table without a reservation.

We've been here at least 8 times now! Consistently great! Really good food, fresh, always something new on the tray, fast and very friendly! So 5*, with the small caveat that when the place is "full," the noise level is quite high due to the layout and architecture.

Bad ordering system. 4 people, 1 iPad. Food comes before appetizers! Per person! Everyone had to eat alone, what a pity!!! Unfriendly staff. We didn't understand the system and I was told that iPads are expensive and licenses are unaffordable! As if that were my problem! A shame for the evening and the money!

We went to Watami for dinner. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Our selection was all-you-can-eat. You can always choose five dishes and then order again. The food was simply fantastic. Whether it was sushi, meat, fish, or vegetables. The desserts were also very, very good. We would gladly return.

Great concept with tablet ordering. The dishes are delicious. It occasionally takes a while for individual partial orders to arrive, which is probably due to the fact that the food is cooked fresh. Reservations are required and can be conveniently booked online. It's also easy to reach by train, as the station is about a one-minute walk away. Plenty of parking is available.

We heard positive reviews about this place, but in reality the menu selection at you can all eat is modest. The sushi is so-so. There are too many spicy dishes. Even the ice cream is more sugar than ice cream. We won't come back.

We've been going to this restaurant for years. Unfortunately, the quality has declined over time. The taste is okay, but comparable to any other sushi restaurant. The staff is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable, too.

Watami is always a lovely and pleasant experience. It's child-friendly and great for introverts, as you can order everything via tablet. The food is, as always, of the highest quality, and there's always something new to try. It therefore deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, I was a bit shocked by the price this time, as the buffet was a good €10 cheaper the last time I visited. I would come again despite the increased prices.

The tablecloth was very nice. The service was excellent! Especially that one guy, yeah. I would recommend not serving the vegetarian sushi on the same plate as the non-vegetarian sushi. Otherwise, it's great :)

You can order five items for two people at once on the tablet, and each one tastes delicious. You can always reorder after ten minutes, and the service is really friendly. Of course, you can also order regular menus, and while it's probably a bit more expensive in the evening, there's a wider selection of all-you-can-eat items. We love eating there and are always happy to be able to eat there.

I've been there several times now, and I really enjoy going there every time. Truly top-notch. Sure, it's not the cheapest restaurant, but it's worth every cent in my opinion. The food always arrives fresh and hot, and there's a good selection. Highly recommended.

The dishes served look significantly different from those selected on the tablet. Nothing is served at the same time, it's not attractively presented, and the quality is still poor. "All you can eat" isn't my thing. The concept might make sense for people who want to eat their fill with a pre-ordered meal.

It's a great experience to be able to order five dishes from a tray every 10 minutes. Unfortunately, some of the food we didn't order came out. The quality of the food is really good for all-you-can-eat, but the price is pretty high, and drinks are extra. The restroom was clean and located upstairs, but unfortunately, all the soaps were gone, and we didn't see an elevator, which makes it very difficult for people with mobility issues. All in all, something completely different, and the sushi is highly recommended, although the mussels, unfortunately, aren't.

I don’t understand the 4,5 star rating. The food was okay. Sushi contained more rice than filling. The meat had good taste but was very dry. The service not that good. After ordering the sushi is served almost immediatly, but serving the meat can take up to 50 min. Vegetables even didn’t come at all… I am not going back and I would not reccomend it.

We waited forever for the food. Everything except the fried food was just really, really bad. I feel sick.

Sushi and Japanese cuisine in a modern setting. Drinks and food are ordered via a tablet. We always do all-you-can-eat. You can probably also order a la carte. We like the food, but not everything is equally good. I can't recommend the lamb chops 😉 And we don't go there more than twice a year, as the menu hardly changes. Nachtich is also on it, by the way.

This is by far one of the best all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants we've visited so far. You get a tablet at your table and can order five dishes per person over several rounds. The selection is really large, and there are several dishes to order in different styles. From sushi to salads and bowls, seafood, fried dishes, rice, meat, soups, and desserts. Drinks cost extra, but the selection is very extensive. After rounds 3 or 4, we were already more than full and only ordered individual dishes or dessert. A really cool restaurant, the ambiance is really nice, and the food tasted good. Addendum: The second visit was also a complete success and satisfactory in every respect 😊

Very, very delicious food. All-you-can-eat works great. You order from a tray, and it's delivered to your table very quickly. You can order five dishes every five minutes. There's a wide selection of salads, meats, and sushi.

Very good Japanese food. Ordering is only possible via tablet. After a bit of getting used to it, it's probably also possible for those without technical skills. We had a bit of trouble the first time, too 😉.

A flawless visit, with super tasty and fresh food. The restaurant is absolutely clean and the employees are incredibly friendly, especially towards children. Definitely recommended and it wasn't the last time we were there.

Entgegen mancher alten Rezensionen wurden an unserem Tag leere Teller zeitnah abgeräumt und auch die Speisen kamen manchmal leicht zeitversetzt, aber trotzdem zeitnah. Lokal war aber an einem DI Abend auch nicht voll. Klar, Bestellung per iPad muss man mögen. Die Getränkepreise empfinde ich als fair. Klar, das All you can eat mag etwas teuer scheinen, vor allem wenn man wie ich nur drei Runden schafft, aber man hat eben die Möglichkeit, unheimlich viele Kleinigkeiten zu probieren. Das Personal muss viel mehr rumrennen, von dem Geschirraufwand ganz zu schweigen. Somit finde ich es ein faires Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Und dass nicht jedes Stück Sushi einzeln frisch gemacht wird, sondern in größerer Menge vorbereitet werden muss, das sollte jedem klar sein, denn sonst ist das nicht zu schaffen! Den fünften Stern hätte es z.B. für ein kleines Wochen-Special gegeben (zur Abwechslung) oder für Mochis auf der Karte. Ein Wochenspecial oder Monatsspecial könnte alles noch etwas aufwerten. Insgesamt kann ich nichts negativ bewerten. Es war stimmig und uns hat es geschmeckt.

I've been going there for a long time because I like the sushi. Unfortunately, all you can eat is becoming more and more expensive. The quality has also deteriorated somewhat. Some foods tasted better in the past and some foods took forever. Noodles from round 1 were not delivered until after round 4. Stupid because you don't dare to order again because you don't know whether you'll be able to do everything when it comes at some point. Everything was ok and still very, very tasty, but given the price, the whole thing should have been quicker, especially since the place wasn't overcrowded. And a little more selection outside of sushi would also be nice.

Anyone who praises the food here generally eats very below average. We were very disappointed. There are 2-3 things that taste pretty good (meat) but the sushi... Really the worst sushi we've ever eaten. A lot of rice, hardly any filling and then unfortunately the filling wasn't very good either. The rice was completely overcooked and wasn't pressed properly when rolling, and the sushi kept falling apart. Generally very little choice, we have already eaten several tablet all-you-can-eats. As an example: there are only 2 types of ice cream for dessert - and that is sesame and green tea. We had seen great food photos here on Google and also a long menu. But that must have been years ago... The price is also a bit too expensive. The service was at least super fast and very friendly. Unfortunately we won't be coming back.

Very good food. Tapas in Japanese, very sociable. Unfortunately, a point is deducted from the service, as you only get two hours at lunchtime.

Excellent quality sushi. Easy ordering via tray with super fast and friendly service. You can sit comfortably after your meal and not be asked out after 2 hours (like in many other restaurants). We always enjoy coming as a family and even in small groups.
