Waldschenke Heidelberg Gasthaus mit Biergarten in Heidelberg

Wir wurden gestern eingeladen zum Gansessen in die Waldschenke mit circa 30-40 Personen und hatten keinerlei Erwartungshaltung. Die hervorragende Gans (mit allem, was dazugehört) war ein Erlebnis. An diesem Abend stimmte wirklich alles: die äußerst gute Küche, dass liebevolle, umsichtige Servicepersonal, sowie der Chef, der auf alles ein Auge hatte. Besser geht‘s nicht

Very tasty food, especially game dishes, fresh from local hunters. Very nice, competent service. Dogs no problem.

Disappointing. I had the impression that I was served something warmed up from the day before. Schnitzel was paper-thin and consisted mostly of breading. Not particularly tasty. Fried potatoes were lukewarm. Only the side salad was fresh and good, but also well paid at €5.50.

We stopped by at this forest bistro, after a long hike -initialy our plan was just to get a tea, but as the place was cosy and people nice, we decided to take some food as well.It was a good decision-the food was excellentl.We had a forelle and semelknödel with mushrooms.The white wine i had was very good too.The staff are lovely young team, efficient and helpful. Nice experience , hope to come again

Wir hatten keine große Erwartung an eine Waldgaststätte, umso positiver waren wir vom Essen und dem Service überrascht. Beides war super und die Preise angemessen. Die Speisekarte war reichhaltig, für jeden etwas dabei. Sehr große Portionen und vom Geschmack hervorragend! Essen kam sehr schnell, obwohl alles frisch zubereitet wurde. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Cheese spaetzle like in Bavaria! Plus a really nice atmosphere. Looking forward to next time :)

Good cuisine, sitting in the forest, lots of space outside

In the summer it's really nice to sit outside, but inside it's very tight. Unfortunately you can smell the toilet through the door. The food would be really good if it wasn't horribly overpriced. The 2 wild boar sausages are no bigger than a normal sausage. I know other high-quality restaurants for game meat and they definitely offer more for the money. We're not coming anymore.

Since our last visit to the Waldschenke was a few years ago, I was really looking forward to the pairing of wild boar sausage with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. (Sensational at the time) I was surprised by 2 tiny little bratwursts and an overall quite manageable portion for 17.90 euros. Because of the bad weather we had to sit inside and were unfortunately seated at the table next to the toilet. The smell from the men's room was quite an imposition during the meal. It's a shame, it's a shame, but under these conditions we'll eat somewhere else next time.

A cozy tavern, simple but clean! The menu wasn't fully available, but after a second run the available dish was good and tasty. Unfortunately, cakes, with the exception of apple strudel, are not offered at all.

Cheese spaetzle was no longer really warm, and the food as a whole was no longer too warm.

Ghastly service. Avoid. We waited 30mins and despite asking 3 different members of staff, we weren’t served at all. Rude place!

The food was delicious. I had the schnitzel and particularly liked that it was one large one instead of two smaller ones. I don't know why, but it was easier for me to eat and it was definitely filling. :3 The internet was probably a bit overloaded, but it was also understandable with around 20 to 30 people in one room xD so everything was still within limits. We ate inside, so can't say much about staying outside, but I think it's in a nice location, in the middle of the forest.

Very nice up there, delicious food, nice shady places. Unfortunately there are no nice play options for children. The playground has nothing to do with a playground, there is a lot of room for improvement here. Such a great place that could be designed so beautifully.

Nice beer garden with delicious food and drinks. The service is super nice and really fast. We had the cordon bleu and the boiled cheese schnitzel with fried potatoes. Both dishes were very good. 👍 The restaurant has a counter with game delicacies. (Bratwurst, stuffed Maultaschen) It's worth looking at the historical buildings/ruins and eating there on the way back/out. The best comes last, there is yeast on tap. 😊

No food was taken. Maybe a little enhancement of the place would be good, but the service worked and the beer was ok

Lots going on on sunny days, friendly service.

The Waldschenke is located between the hiking car park and Thingstätte. Since we didn't want to eat in the beer garden, we asked if we could also get a seat in the tavern. We were shown 3 tables. There were still leftover food on the first one. The second one didn't look any better either. Therefore we decided on the third table. The table here was relatively clean, but the seat cushions looked very dirty and somehow dirty. The food was quite good (sausage salad with fried potatoes and Odenwälder Kochkäse schnitzel with fried potatoes), only some of the fried potatoes could have used a little less heat. Black burnt food just doesn't taste good.

Food is always a matter of taste, I'm sorry, I didn't like it. Schnitzel too dark and dry, fried potatoes hard.

The way there is a bit bumpy...but once you get there there's nothing missing. Great drinks, really great food and very friendly staff!

Very tasty cordon bleu. We can recommend ordering a portion of cooked cheese. This is a great combo 😋. The service staff were nice and helpful, the prices were okay for the quality delivered. 👍👍👍

A nice place for a break before or after visiting the St Michel monastery... Cold beer, toilets and good beer garden food. Don't hesitate to stop by.

We had a company outing and had a delicious buffet for lunch. Unfortunately I don't know how much € per person spends. I can only recommend it. If you like hiking, you can also get there on foot. You sit comfortably under the linden trees. Will go again soon.

Prices high, small portions, was a bit disappointed, you won't get full! Food is delicious, service is friendly and fast! Price-performance not sufficient for us due to the small portions! There is nothing on offer for children either, no fries, no playground!

Beautiful beer garden under huge deciduous trees. The chanterelles with bread dumplings are absolutely not recommended, they swim in an over-salted cream sauce. You might want to be on the safe side when ordering and, for example, order the salad with the wild boar ham. The service is attentive and quick.

Cordon Blue, venison sausages and goat cheese salad were outstanding! Service was on point!

Very nice destination and restaurant within walking distance from Heidelberg via the Philosophy Trail. Shady and sunny places outside - depending on your choice. Very friendly and nice team. Food and drinks are good with fair prices. Highly recommended.

I was there at about midday, as I had hiked up from Heidelberg to see the amphitheatre. I was met with the friendliest staff I could've asked for. (I believe Flo was his name). The food is locally sourced from a 30km radius, hunted and butchered by the kitchen staff at the restaurant. I had wild boar Maultasche which was heavenly. Cranberry and mustard is a secret but perfect combination. Hope to be back.

Nice location, with good staff and delicious food. Unfortunately we had to sit inside because of the weather, as the beer garden is a particular plus point. But you can also sit well in the restaurant. The game is highly recommended, but the other dishes are also very tasty. the staff quick and on point. There were 16 of us and we all ate together!

Top! Went here for the first time yesterday after a May 1st walk and we were thrilled! I haven't eaten so well in a long time! Excellent freshly prepared local game, idyllic location, friendly owner. Since there was a huge rush at lunchtime (all places were full, new hiking groups kept coming), we first had to wait for a table. But the wait was more than worth it, because the venison sausages with cranberry mustard (what a brilliant idea) were first-class, the freshly prepared mashed potatoes were great and even the red cabbage was excellent. It was outstanding in terms of taste and aroma and was therefore definitely more than the expected “ordinary home cooking”. Service and owners were very friendly and helpful and did a good job. It took some time for drinks and food to arrive, but given the enormous hustle and bustle, that was excusable and simply couldn't be helped. There were several waitresses on duty who did their best and were very friendly and patient with the guests in a situation that probably took a toll on their nerves. Respect! 1A, we'll be back!

Innkeeper doesn't work at all, food Well..! We waited forever for our food and it was brought out at considerable intervals and at different times. When part of the group still hadn't received their food after ONE hour, I asked the innkeeper personally, but I only got passive aggressive answers from the very unprofessional boss. The food came quite quickly after the complaint, but he then said he had to come to our table again and come after us in person and make a show of it. The waiter was nice in general, but we didn't experience any appreciation from the innkeeper himself in the restaurant, which unfortunately meant that the experience fell through. The schnitzel was good, but the side dishes were unfortunately mediocre. That's why it remains a well! Due to the extremely unprofessional and embarrassing behavior of the innkeeper, this will definitely be the last visit there.

Was one of the first guests today on May 1st. Some guests who came after me were served with the card first! It would actually be ok if I had gotten a card at all. When I complained about this, they cheekily said that I had been served straight away!... A good service person sees who is coming when and doesn't ignore them, for whatever reason! I would look for a new service person... Nowadays you have to take what you can get in terms of service staff! No recommendation, I won't come back here!

We've been coming here on our tours for 3 years now and are always happy about delicious home-made food, nice staff who are friendly even when things get stressful and try to find a place for guests who haven't made a reservation. We always enjoy coming here, keep it up.

We celebrated our wedding there and were thrilled. The food was absolutely top and the service was great too! The Heiligenberg has something magical for us! We'll keep coming back <3

Underground service - slow and very unfriendly. After waiting at our table for 20 minutes without ordering, we were very rudely informed that we had to leave without a reservation. During the whole time there were various tables around us free and all we wanted to do was drink two apple juice spritzers. What a shame!

Very tasty, was there with my family. Grandma, aunt, cousins, siblings Service was a little confusing but overall it was great.

Bad-tempered service, local totally overcrowded! Food was nothing special! Breading is thicker than the schnitzel! My salad was missing 2 salads compared to the others at the table! I was happy when we were outside again.

I only had a beer there during weekend hike. The place was crowded (not really sure why) and obviously there was some waiting time even for a beer.

Brilliant staff very helpful speaking in English. Food was delicious and well priced. Nice selection of beers. Well worth a walk through the forest to find this wonderful place.

There is a tower in front of the Waldschenke, from above you have a beautiful view of Heidelberg. A worthwhile trip. A visit to the Waldschenke is then a good idea. Beautiful and interesting hiking area.

Fantastic food. We ate soup - great, deer schnitzel (reh schnitzel) - great, roasted wildschwein was good too. Nice location if you are going to Heiligenberg. We didn't wait for table and staff was friendly.

Really in the mountain we had a great ride until we arrived and luckily all this compensated us with a delicious food

We went after walking up Philosopher's way and it was a lovely pub with a beer garden. The Spätzle was delicious and the staff were friendly.

The food is freshly prepared and tastes perfect. Effort is being made here, you can tell.

Die Gans war ganz🙃hervorragend. Der Service zuvorkommend und freundlich. Der Raum könnte Vorhänge vertragen, denn die Akustik bei voller Belegung ist sehr laut. Ansonsten sehr zu empfehlen.

Nach einer schönen Wanderung einkehren in die Waldschänke lohnt sich immer.Das essen war sehr schmackhaft und nicht überteuert.Die Krautwickel und die Wildschweinbratwurst sind zu empfehlen.Das Personal war auch sehr freundlich. Gerne wieder.:-)

Wir waren heute das erste Mal dort. Im Grunde zufällig, weil wir gar nicht damit gerechnet haben, dass im November geöffnet ist. Der Blick auf die Speisekarte hat uns begeistert. Also sind wir eingetreten. Es gab Kochkäseschnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln und Rehragout mit Spätzle und Rotkohl. Erst hieß es das Ragout ist aus, aber dank dem excellence Service einend jungen Mannes bekamen wir den Tipp etwas zu warten, bis die große Veranstaltung im Hinterzimmer bestellt hat. Es hat funktioniert es war wieder Rehragout verfügbar. Der Service war professionell, unaufdringlich, sehr freundlich und sehr aufmerksam. Auf unsere kleinen Extrawünsche wurde eingegangen. Müsste etwas kritisiert werden, dann hätten wir uns gewünscht, dass der Kochkäse warm/heiß und nicht kalt serviert wird. Wären wir mit dem Auto dort gewesen hätten wir sicherlich noch Fleisch eingekauft. Nicht nur die Preise in der Waldschänke haben ein spitzen Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, sondern auch das Fleisch in der Auslage. 21€/kg für Wildschweinbratwurst ist 2€ günstiger als in einer Spezialitäten-Metzgerei. Wir waren total glücklich und kommen wieder. Vielen Dank.

Ein uriges kleines Lokal,nette Wirtsleute und ein top Service. Wenn es voll ist, muss man schon mal auf sein Essen warten...jedoch in guter Begleitung machbar. Thema Essen Lecker,old school...für Extras,wie Sosse...extra Beilagensalat.. muss man extra bezahlen!!! Die Portionen sind nunja...ein echter Mann wird nicht satt. Cordon bleu und 13 Scheiben Bratkatoffel fand ich schon witzig auf dem Teller-satt werden ist anderst!!! Wir wollten noch Nachtisch bestellen,ließen es jedoch dann aufgrund der Portionsgrössen der anderen Essen am Tisch. Thema Sicherheit Geht man in der hinteren Teil der Gaststätte,findet man dort einen dunklen Zwischenraum-für ältere Menschen undenkbar. Eine Stehlampe wäre da gut plaziert. War ganz nett ,für Ausflüge danach aufwärmen.. gehn ,gut geeignet.

Sehr schöne Schenke in fantastischer Lage. Gemütlich und gutes Essen. Service war sets freundlich und auch Extrawünsche waren kein Problem. Zu empfehlen.

Viel Spaß gehabt bei einem entspannten Essen in der Waldschenke. Die wanderfreundliche Lage zwischen Thingstätte und spektakulärem Aussichtsturm macht es sehr leicht hier zu landen.

Eine sehr schöne Location in mitten des Heidelberger Waldes. Lokale und sehr leckere Speisen zu sehr humanen Preisen lassen jeden Wanderer oder Spaziergänger glücklich werden. Eine klare Empfehlung.

Service Absolut Spitze. Sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wird auch sehr gerne auf extra Wünsche eingegangen. Essen auch sehr gut, vorallem die Wildgerichte. Regional und sehr frisch! 👍🏻

Wir waren mit dem Motorrad unterwegs und haben in der Waldschenke eine wunderschöne Auszeit genossen. Wir hatten Hirschbraten und Schnitzel mit Odenwälder Kochkäse. Beides sehr lecker und ordentliche Portionen. Es fehlte an nichts. Alles zu sehr akzeptabelen Preisen und bei netter Bedienung. Jederzeit wieder!

Nice place to relax after a long walk.

Wir waren an einem Sonntag, es war voll, ohne Reservierung kaum möglich einen Platz zu bekommen. Man kann sehr schön draußen sitzen, leider war der Service maßlos überfordert, es war sehr Chaotisch, mit langen Wartezeiten. Das Essen an sich war in Ordnung.

Auf der Suche nach einem ruhigen Plätzchen für ein entspanntes Abendessen, sind wir über Maps an diesen Ort gelangt. Die Waldschenke befindet sich mitten in der Natur eingebettet. Sehr gemütlicher Außenbereich/Biergarten vorhanden. Die Speisekarte bietet eine reichliche Auswahl an verschiedenen Gerichten. Aufgrund der netten Atmosphäre gönnten wir uns noch ein leckeres Dessert zum Abschluss.
