Mandy's Railway Diner in Heidelberg

Great atmosphere, with Christmas decorations everywhere when I visited. The menu has something for every taste. The food is good so far. The service was also satisfactory, although some of the staff are a bit inattentive and prefer to talk to each other. When I was served, it was always very nice.

The place is very cozy, very pretty and with a vintage vibe, however the food leaves too much to be desired for its price. We had the Chickenfilet burger (€14.90) (which was decent) and the Santa Fe burger (€12.9) (which supposedly came with guacamole), as well as some mozarella sticks. The burgers were tiny, the size of the palm of a small hand. The Chickenfilet only had 2 pieces of chicken in it and the Santa Fe came only with avocado (no guacamole!) in addition to very low quality meat. Regarding the mozarella sticks, it can be said that they were standard, but it is better to buy them at REWE or EDEKA, which despite being smaller, have much better sauce. I feel like the place is very nice, but it was completely a disappointment. Regarding the attention, the waitress was very friendly, nothing to say.

Incredibly delicious diner! We went to the diner twice in 3 days and tried everything on the menu. We will especially remember the NY-style hot dog, the delicious grilled sandwiches and the shakes. We'd love to come back!

We were in Heidelberg yesterday as part of a day trip. If you drive from the Schwetzingen exit to Heidelberg City you will pass directly by "Mandy's". Ideal for lunch before visiting the old town. Parking spaces available. Comfortable seating options. Children's chair is also there. Typical American food selection. We had the classic Heidelburger, chili cheese, fries, etc. And then a strawberry milkshake (American sweet!). Everything very tasty! .. and not expensive. The staff (you can watch them being prepared and they sometimes wave) are super friendly and in a very good mood. Note: There is still a real pinball machine towards the toilet. Just like in old times, you got a free spin :-) It was fun!

Delicious burgers and very tasty homemade iced tea. Unfortunately, the opening times are too short because people like to eat such delicious Bruger a little later. The best onion rings I've ever eaten.

Very nice staff. Alcoholic drinks exclusively beer. Homemade lemonade is great. It's a shame that the buns are a bit run-of-the-mill, there are better ones out there, complained at a high level.

It was amazing, I felt catapulted to America right in time and in the country. The atmosphere was so nice especially because it was warm, and the kitschy decorations are a must. The food was sumptuous and delicious, I think the price-performance ratio was right, the chef did a great job and the milkshake was a great dessert. It was really a great stay, but... Unfortunately I have to take something away from the service - the staff was a bit inattentive and you could often see them standing around. So there was a little less here, but it was still friendly. Would go there again and again, it would be even nicer if you removed the cash only signs if you thought about accepting card payments😁

Authentically furnished, friendly service. However, high prices, especially for drinks and breakfast. Burger meat is frozen, not fresh. The ham on the club sandwich tasted cheap and also too much mayo. And: no card payment.

The menu is quite varied and the food is tasty. Very curious place to visit, whether you go for tourism or live there. And as a Spaniard I have to say that the fact that a waitress spoke to me in Spanish impressed me quite a bit.

With a burger price of 12-15 euros, I expect something different. Below average McDonalds quality burger. The fries weren't good either. They tasted like cheap frozen fries from Ja, but at the price where I would expect hand-cut fries. Mayo had to be ordered with it and was also billed for. Overall, I just expect more from a decent diner in this price range. The service was friendly. The ambience was ok, unfortunately the music was so loud that it was very unpleasant. Overall, no recommendation. If you want to eat good burgers there are better restaurants

The location is in an old railway carriage. Everything was decorated in Halloween which looked great. The service was friendly despite the full house. The food tasted excellent. We will come back, promise...

The hamburger was absolutely terrible, low- quality meat, rather tough, extremely bland. The glasses smell detergent and the dipped cheddar fries were too fatty and to my surprise absolutely bland!!!!! Slow service!!!

The burgers themselves were also good - juicy and full of flavor. The ambience was breathtaking , especially now at Halloween. The decoration, both outside and in the carriages, was designed with great attention to detail and created a special atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly and made the morning even more pleasant - we'll come definitely again!"

A diner with a real American feeling! The diner is located inside an old train carriage. We were happy to have been there in the fall and were able to admire great Halloween decorations - even inside and out. The selection is huge in diversity and quantity. The club sandwich is a great deal.

Great service and the best pancakes around. But the prices are quite high. 10€ for a small salad. Or €13 for a medium-sized burger without any side dish. You have to want it. We'll still come back because it was really tasty.

Nice team. Delicious food (also vegetarian). However, the insistence on cash payment is outdated. Everyone can do whatever they want, but not offering card payments these days is like chopping firewood before cooking. In any case, it doesn't do much for the authenticity of a diner. We would have liked to eat more, but we didn't have enough cash... What a shame!

Was expecting 100% all beef burgers for the price we paid (very high for what you got), but it was meat with fillers—don’t know what it was, but it wasn’t good. There were no hot dogs, burgers were on the bigger side, but also very pricey. All day breakfast, Atmosphere was really cool and service was good, but the burgers need to be improved!

The food was very good, but the price was rather higher. Sometimes we waited a long time for service to arrive, even though it wasn't too busy (it was definitely already full). If you compare it with 10-15 years ago, you notice that the charm is increasingly being lost.

The burger doesn't have a price-performance ratio at all and is overpriced. It didn't taste good either. The fries with chili, on the other hand, are good.

The sandwhiches are awesome. There are drinks from the USA and the ambience in the railway carriage and American style is something. Just a little expensive.

Great restaurant, Burgers are very tasty. The Grant Burgers with 380 gr of meat are highly recommended. Points deducted for bringing the wrong burger, it should have been a hamburger instead of the farm burger. Veggie burgers are also highly recommended Ambience absolutely great.

I ordered the largest burger on the menu which, surprisingly, is very large. Unfortunately I had very loose stools that evening and I don't know if that had anything to do with the burger. If you ever go there, I would recommend the “Super Hero Burger” (~27€), but you can also eat it for two and it’s relatively cheap.

The location is something special. In the style of an old railway carriage. Great and tastefully decorated. Modern, clean toilets. There is also a small area for "sitting outside". The food is mainly American, i.e. burgers & co. I found the service particularly good 👍. The way it should be and is now rare.

Indescribably unfriendly staff, breakfast starting at €18.90 is completely overpriced and the quality is unjustified. The store used to have a good reputation when it was still American-run. Now it's just a copy. And the fact that only cash is accepted speaks volumes. Absolutely no recommendation.

Today we were guests with 5 people. We were forbidden to sit outside in the back where there was enough space. There were only tables for four at the front and we weren't allowed to move anything. Even in the interior we were only offered to sit separately. Just like that without explanation. Totally unfriendly.

Looks like a cute spot but we were waiting for 30 minutes with no service not even drinks. I could understand if she was swamped, but it was not very busy. The only time our waitress came up to us was to tell us our table (that she sat us at) was in the walk way and we needed to move - she didn’t take our order while leading us to the new table. While we were leaving a waitress was outside having a smoke. Had to laugh at how bad it was.

Mandy's burger leaves a disappointing impression. The waiting time is very long, which makes the visit unpleasant. When the food finally comes, it is lukewarm, which isn't exactly appetizing. The fries are nothing special and in no way justify the price of €4.90. The meat patty definitely seems to have come from the freezer, which further reduces the quality. Overall, Mandy's Burger is overpriced and offers below average quality. In comparison, the two well-known burger chains offer better value for money and do not disappoint. Conclusion: Mandy's burger is not worth recommending. PS: - About 20 minutes of waiting until you received the card, even though the waiter walked past several times. We had to actively ask him to please let us be served. Where can you find something like that? - We also had to actively ask for ketchup. - Waiter didn't seem happy that he didn't receive a tip and had to spend change down to the penny. To summarize the service: Changing jobs would certainly not be a bad idea. Positive: The draft beer is good.

The place look great with America Diner vibes! Ordered the Pitburger, Onion Rings and Earl Grey Tea. The burger was recommended by a waitress, which was pretty nice - bread could be better. Took quite a while to get my order taken, and food service took some time as well - buffer your time when you come! Would not recommend the onion rings.

Very nice and special atmosphere. Typical American food at reasonable prices. We really enjoy coming here. Definitely recommended. The waiters are also very nice and the food is on the table quickly after you order. The homemade lemonades are delicious and you can also have breakfast for dinner.

The structure is very nice, it recalls the clichés of the 1950s and we American fans immediately entered. They don't accept credit or debit cards but CASH ONLY and without even indicating it with a sign! Not bad food but the biggest shame is the service. I asked to remove bacon and sausage from a plate and put avocado in place of these two ingredients... the waitress without batting an eyelid replied that it wasn't possible. I asked why and the absurd explanation was that in 5 years they had never done it 😂😂😂 the girl didn't take half a step to meet the customer, the price of the dish despite having removed two ingredients was the same... I can still understand that the price of the dish does not vary despite two fewer ingredients, but even today I don't understand the difficulty of cutting an avocado and putting it on a plate where it wasn't intended 😂😂 Opening your mind a little could be really useful to you!

We were there for the second time today and left because we couldn't get a seat. The service staff is inflexible and was not willing to put a chair at a table so that we could sit together and order a drink. We ended up waiting in the hallway for 30 minutes and finally left. The food was good the first time. Unfortunately, if the service is unfriendly, even the best food and ambience are of no use.

It's totally overpriced. The service is ok but not good and the drink prices are just cheeky... Small beer 0.33 4.60 euros... The burger is ok but in no way compares to the price. Fries aren't worth 5 euros. Burgerking has a better price-performance ratio and tastes similar, little sauce and no fresh ingredients, dry salad etc. Let's not do it again. Music is good.

Had the Veggie Cho Cho Burger. Unfortunately it fell apart because the patty wasn't “firm” enough. And not seasoned enough. The people I was there with had meat products. Were amazed. I unfortunately do not.

For me, Mandy's Railway Diner is a real journey back in time to the US 70s. The homemade lemonade and pickle sandwich were delicious. The atmosphere in the old train compartment is simply fantastic. As a long-time fan of the diner, every visit reminds me of the good old days when the Americans were still stationed in Heidelberg. It is a piece of history and a culinary enrichment at the same time. If you like classic American food and vintage flair, you should definitely stop by. A must for nostalgics and connoisseurs. Simply great!

"It used to be really great here. But our visit today was a complete disappointment. The food was disastrous - completely tasteless and without any spices. If I want a low-salt diet, I'd rather go to the hospital than to a diner. The steak 'n' cheese consisted of a loveless piece of beef minute steak on a ciabatta. The burger was more appearance than reality, the roast beef sandwich was subpar and the cheese fries seemed to have completely ignored the spice rack. It's a shame that the quality was once so good."
