Mandy's Railway Diner in Heidelberg

Been to Hberg so many times over the last 10 years but only found this place 2 years ago and won’t go anywhere else for breaky. Amazing little American diner. Spent all weekend in there for breaky this time around.

Brilliant American breakfast. Kind staff, prompt and quick. Decent food

The ambience is great but unfortunately the food is nothing special. We were there for breakfast. I chose my pancake with peanut butter and jelly because it wanted fresh strawberries... There was a strawberry cut into 4 pieces... Really disappointing! In addition, the pancakes were boring and nothing special. I make better ones at home. Really disappointing. The service was okay. When the woman was with us, she was very nice, but the waiting times until she took our order or paid us were really too long...

Philly is fine, needs a lil more tenderness. cookie is cool, could be softer. fries are ok Make sure if you get the cookie, ask for the amount of powder.

My 2 boys and I stayed across the street at the Meninger hotel and ate here one night. They nailed the look, ambience and food, it was great. Only thing I recommend is that they get Hellman's mayo and give people the option to get Miracle Whip or mayo. Next time we're there will l we will visit again for sure.

Food has gone way down, prices are absolutely no longer appropriate, I've known the railway for over 25 years, very disappointed, the service is friendly but alone, the kitchen doesn't have a handle on bringing out food, it's a shame... I come from the restaurant industry,... I know what I'm writing here... it closes at 10 p.m.,... you should also think about the quality of the food, quantity and prices,...

A bit outdated, the entire area and also a bit out of date! On the positive things: great service, really nice atmosphere, well connected! Not so pleasant: the burger was incredibly greasy and the taste was simply nothing special, the minced meat in particular was not very seasoned and the sauce was saved - overall the burger was also very small and expensive in comparison! I won't be coming back!

Good burgers, nice ambience. Unfortunately NO card payment possible!! That's why I had to set off again and it took me a total of 25 minutes to get back and forth to the nearest ATM. Drinks quite expensive.

Great shop with friendly staff and great food. Just American style. The sweet potato wedges and the burgers are great. In the picture the 1974 Classic with 339g patty. You can do it like that.

Ambiance is cool! Service was also very nice But the food is honestly not worth the money! It was basically just warmed up goods and still almost as expensive as a normal restaurant. I honestly don't understand the current 4.1 rating :(

This is the best American diner I have visited in Germany so far. The food is great and comes quickly. The service is friendly. The ambience really screams USA, USA! It might be a little cheaper, but it's a good price. The prices are reasonable.

From time to time I like to stop for a burger, incomparable to the world chains. For me, I only recommend a brand of drink for a burger, preferably water.

A very beautiful and atmospheric place. There are lovely details everywhere that you can look at while you wait for your food (which doesn't take long, by the way). The food is delicious, the service is good and the prices are affordable. There is a clean and well-maintained toilet in the premises, which is also decorated decoratively - everything is nicely decorated and quite comfortable. Overall, you feel as if you have truly immersed yourself in a bygone era. Only the people in the restaurant bring you back to reality - there's no other way to say it 🤭 Thank you 🩷

A nice atmosphere in an old train carriage. The service is very friendly and competent. Unfortunately, most of the dishes and especially the burgers are either frozen or already prepared - it just wasn't really fresh.

Also very pleasant: There are plenty of free parking spaces right in front of the door. However, there is room for improvement when it comes to the price-performance ratio. A portion of fries costs €4.90, mozzarella sticks €5.90 and chili con carne fries with sour cream cost an impressive €10.90. The taste of the latter was okay, but the portions were rather manageable for the price. The American soft drinks like Dr. Pepper or grape soda are not served in the original can, but in a glass - unfortunately the taste is a bit stale. At €4.90 per glass, the drinks are also priced at the upper end. The menu seems a bit wild and confusing, which makes choosing difficult. The music was quite loud and hectic, which made the stay a bit uneasy. The service was friendly, but not particularly attentive or engaging. Overall: Nice concept with a special flair, but with potential for improvement - especially in terms of price-performance ratio and small details. ⸻ If you like, I can shorten it again for a specific platform or put it in a more relaxed tone.

This diner has a great aesthetic and is really something special. The food was always good, especially if you are craving fast food/American style food. The prices are a little high.

The taste was also great. I needed to add salt and I prefer a little bit hotter. But maybe salt is just right for you. The atmosphere, the posters was amazing. I have a new place where I could bring my guests and clients confidently. I ate a mega burger, 339 gram meat which is 18.50 Euro. The portion and the price is a match in my opinion. I was hungry and it was big enough to fulfill me. I want to come back to taste the other options and the rib eye steak🥩 P.S. I am a very well eater

Not recommended. Music was way too loud. Burgers too expensive for what they had to offer. And drinks are on the menu at €3.90 and are billed at €5.40. Staff impersonal and bored. Generally not again

You can dine on typical American cuisine here, which is very tasty and sumptuous. Well furnished and waitresses in petticoat outfits ensure the appropriate ambience. Reservations are not possible on weekends. The no-carb burger is recommended

A legend in Heidelberg. You immediately feel like you're in the States. The burgers and the selection of other dishes are good.

The two of us were there on a Monday afternoon. I have to say, I read the bad reviews before writing this review and I can't understand them. The service was friendly, the food was really tasty (we both had burgers with special requests) and the dessert was great - definitely try this waffle! It wasn't the last time I was there. The ambience is suitable for a dinner and the location is unique. And were you able to win as guests?

I had better burgers and fries with cheese. No positive recommendations from me this time. Staff was really nice and helpful. Music and vibes is positive!

Remember this place back when the US base was still here. Very nostalgic seeing it again. Service was great. The staff knows English and the owner is American. Caught the owner putting up more signs, which was awesome.

No recommendation. Staff unfriendly and arrogant. It seems like she doesn't want to work. The ambience seems a bit worn out in places and not 100 percent authentic. Requests are not really addressed; on the contrary, they are answered with an unpleasant undertone. I think it's a shame that such staff are allowed to work here.

Burger heavy middle. small portions, but expensive. for 12e I expect to eat a burger and not stay hungry. someone will say we also have big burgers on offer. thank you. almost 20e for a burger is excessive. The nostalgia reminds me of any main street diner in the States. Customer service is wonderful and then the food is amazing. If you like Waffle House or Denny's, this is the place to be!!!

The diner is definitely something special in terms of the ambience/presentation. Inside it's 100% American, that's something. The service was great, the food was sometimes a little overcooked, but only minimal. A visit is definitely recommended.

The food there was very tasty, and as a train lover, the ambience there was just great 😍 The burger was a reasonable size and tasted very good. The staff there was very friendly and nice. One point of criticism and I would like to see a solution found for this: Unfortunately it is not possible to pay by card in the restaurant. I would also like card payment here. We didn't have any cash with us and would have had to drive a little further out to get banknotes at an ATM. In the end, we ordered there via Lieferando, but with an additional charge for each dish. However, we were able to eat on site.

“Smash Burger” has nothing to do with a smash burger because the meat was neither smashed nor was fresh meat used. Apart from that, 160g of meat for €11.9 and no cheese. 5.40€ for 0.33l Pepsi. So whoever calculated the prices, hats off. Cheesy fries unsalted and no real cheese taste, Halumi sticks taste like nothing but that could also be my fault. All in all, I was extremely angry after the meal because it was a complete disappointment. When the waitress was pointed out about the burger, she didn't really understand what a smash burger actually was. I just like the Railway Diner...especially... around Christmas with the cute kitschy decoration...Love it...But more importantly: food 😊 delicious shakes, delicious food, good price/performance ratio... Just try it out! 😊

Mandy's burger leaves a disappointing impression. The waiting time is very long, which makes the visit unpleasant. When the food finally comes, it is lukewarm, which isn't exactly appetizing. The fries are nothing special and in no way justify the price of €4.90. The meat patty definitely seems to have come from the freezer, which further reduces the quality. Overall, Mandy's Burger is overpriced and offers below average quality. In comparison, the two well-known burger chains offer better value for money and do not disappoint. Conclusion: Mandy's burger is not worth recommending. PS: - About 20 minutes of waiting until you received the card, even though the waiter walked past several times. - We also had to actively ask for ketchup. - Waiter didn't seem happy that he didn't get a tip and had to spend change down to the cent. To summarize the service: Changing jobs would certainly not be a bad idea. Positive: The draft beer is good.

Very nice service, great atmosphere but unfortunately the food was really disappointing. Very small portions for the price, the quality of the burgers (meat, cheese and bun) was poor and the fries tasted like old grease. Unfortunately not recommended at all.

Definitely American and it definitely rocks! Quite noticeable from the street for its unique structure, as it is a used railway car repurposed as a restaurant, you will not miss it (also because google maps is accurate :D) Inside it looks like the typical railway car diner with a live kitchen and booths to sit in. The waitresses are lively, fast and efficient. The menu is vast and noticeably American, with a generous spread of different variety as well as portions and sizes. For sure an amazing must visit place, with the insides very interestingly decorated with memorabilia which is distinct Americana. There is period specific groovy music which most Quentin Tarantino fans will immediately recognise. Overall the place comes together extremely well - the decorations, the seating, the music, the menu, all fit well and add to the charm. Toilet facilities are available and there is ample parking at the site. A must visit if you want a slice of America in Germany!

Food good, but how am I supposed to understand that if I can order 'eggs cooked to your choice' then I can't get poached eggs? So flexibility is zero. Too bad. Oh yes, the coffee came almost cold.

Excellent atmosphere of America '50-'60. Pleasant place to sit, typical American menu. Great place with atmosphere.

At the beginning we were asked if there were two of us, to which I answered in a quieter tone. The waitress didn't understand me, and her reaction seemed a bit impatient and annoyed when she asked again. In addition, the food was unfortunately very average. It had hardly any taste or was not very seasoned. The hearty American experience people had hoped for simply wasn't there. It was sad because the ambience was quite appealing, but the quality of the food didn't live up to it.

Unfortunately, the price is not right, chicken wings with run-of-the-mill fries €19.90, no blue cheese dressing, celery stalks. Was the operator ever in the USA? Sour cream is herb quark, the rest is frozen. Nice rocky atmosphere. Beer from wheat glasses? Fast service, unfortunately only cash payment for whatever reason.

In the brunch fast food category a 10/10 The Apollo breakfast is truly the best thing I've ever eaten!

A great atmosphere down to the last detail!! The burger and fries were fresh and very tasty and the pancake with milkshake was simply good, unfortunately there wasn't enough room in my stomach! It's just a shame that you couldn't pay by card.

It's very cozy, the only negative is that the place is small. There were 8 of us, we were able to reserve seats at separate but adjacent tables, so communication was a bit difficult.

If you want to feel like you're in America, this is the right place for you; The ambience is great, service is good and so is the food. However, the fries were a bit too raw and not seasoned enough. The New York style hot dog was good and the cheesecake was heavenly, definitely try it!

Great atmosphere, with Christmas decorations everywhere when I visited. The menu has something for every taste. The food is good so far. The service was also satisfactory, although some of the staff are a bit inattentive and prefer to talk to each other. When I was served, it was always very nice.

The place is very cozy, very pretty and with a vintage vibe, however the food leaves too much to be desired for its price. We had the Chickenfilet burger (€14.90) (which was decent) and the Santa Fe burger (€12.9) (which supposedly came with guacamole), as well as some mozarella sticks. The burgers were tiny, the size of the palm of a small hand. The Chickenfilet only had 2 pieces of chicken in it and the Santa Fe came only with avocado (no guacamole!) in addition to very low quality meat. Regarding the mozarella sticks, it can be said that they were standard, but it is better to buy them at REWE or EDEKA, which despite being smaller, have much better sauce. I feel like the place is very nice, but it was completely a disappointment. Regarding the service, the waitress was very friendly, nothing to say.

Incredibly delicious diner! We went to the diner twice in 3 days and tried everything on the menu. We will especially remember the NY-style hot dog, the delicious grilled sandwiches and the shakes. We'd love to come back!

We were in Heidelberg yesterday as part of a day trip. If you drive from the Schwetzingen exit to Heidelberg City you will pass directly by "Mandy's". Ideal for lunch before visiting the old town. Parking spaces available. Comfortable seating options. Children's chair is also there. Typical American food selection. We had the classic Heidelburger, chili cheese, fries, etc. And then a strawberry milkshake (American sweet!). Everything very tasty! .. and not expensive. The staff (you can watch them being prepared and they sometimes wave) are super friendly and in a very good mood. Note: There is still a real pinball machine towards the toilet. Just like in old times, you got a free spin :-) It was fun!

Delicious burgers and very tasty homemade iced tea. Unfortunately, the opening times are too short because people like to eat such delicious Bruger a little later. The best onion rings I've ever eaten.

Very nice staff. Alcoholic drinks exclusively beer. Homemade lemonade is great. It's a shame that the buns are a bit run-of-the-mill, there are better ones out there, complained at a high level.

It was amazing, I felt catapulted to America right in time and in the country. The atmosphere was so nice especially because it was warm, and the kitschy decorations are a must. The food was sumptuous and delicious, I think the price-performance ratio was right, the chef did a great job and the milkshake was a great dessert. It was really a great stay, but... Unfortunately I have to take something away from the service - the staff was a bit inattentive and you could often see them standing around. So there was a little less here, but it was still friendly. Would go there again and again, it would be even nicer if you removed the cash only signs if you thought about accepting card payments😁

Authentically furnished, friendly service. However, high prices, especially for drinks and breakfast. Burger meat is frozen, not fresh. The ham on the club sandwich tasted cheap and also too much mayo. And: no card payment.

I have rarely been served so attentively, quickly (ha pun!) and friendly. The team is an absolute force! Gladly more often!

The menu is quite varied and the food is tasty. Very curious place to visit, whether you go for tourism or live there. And as a Spaniard I have to say that the fact that a waitress spoke to me in Spanish impressed me quite a bit.

The location is in an old railway carriage. Everything was decorated in Halloween which looked great. The service was friendly despite the full house. The food tasted excellent. We will come back, promise...

The hamburger was absolutely terrible, low- quality meat, rather tough, extremely bland. The glasses smell detergent and the dipped cheddar fries were too fatty and to my surprise absolutely bland!!!!! Slow service!!!

A diner with a real American feeling! The diner is located inside an old train carriage. We were happy to have been there in the fall and were able to admire great Halloween decorations - even inside and out. The selection is huge in diversity and quantity. The club sandwich is a great deal.

Just out there. Our waitress was an extremely unfriendly and super rude man. We always pay in dollars and he didn't want to give us that today. And became completely stupid. I won't go there anymore after that experience
