Unfortunately, it has declined considerably. I used to enjoy the forest spirit, but now I choose something else.

The staff ignored us for about 20 minutes, even though there were hardly any customers. They preferred to joke around at the counter. There was no sauce for the fitness salad, and the side salad wasn't served with the schnitzel. No apology from the staff, just annoyed faces. Service - 3 stars, food - 3 stars.

A rustic restaurant with delicious food, but catastrophic service. We were here today with a large group and three children. We sat there for a while until someone from the server, rather unmotivated, took our drink order. The food and drinks arrived quite quickly. The food was delicious. However, the server never asked if we wanted more drinks or if everything was okay with the meal. We then sat there for almost an hour without drinking anything. After we called the server, we were able to order a second round of drinks. When we wanted to pay, we were asked to speak to another server, "the one with the wallet." Here, I'm used to the fact that servers tell the cashier to let them know and don't leave it to the customer. We had to ask the server twice if we wanted to take the leftovers to go – they then placed a roll of aluminum foil on the table and left it to wrap it up ourselves. We won't be coming back because of the poor service and therefore didn't leave a tip.

The food is okay, but the payment methods are a complete step backwards. It's 2025, and you can only pay with cash or debit card. It says so somewhere on the website, but you'll be surprised by it in the restaurant itself. Anyone without cash or a debit card will be left looking really stupid. Absolutely not up-to-date for a place like this."

Highly recommended. Reservations are recommended. We were lucky without a reservation, but a few guests had to leave because there was no room (the beer garden had to be partially relocated indoors due to the onset of rain). Very child-friendly!!! Generally very friendly and accommodating staff – genuine hosts. Delicious food and good value for money. We spontaneously visited for the first time for my wife's birthday, but certainly not for the last time! Overall: Highly recommended! Beautiful wooden huts for small groups in the beer garden.

We had a regular-sized Jägerschnitzel with mushroom sauce and fries. There were two of us and we didn't have a reservation. We were picked up at the entrance and brought to our tables. Our drinks (0.4l Coke Zero) arrived within the first 5-10 minutes. The Jägerschnitzel arrived in under 20 minutes, and we paid around €50. Good value for money, excellent service, and excellent taste. We'd be happy to come back. Tip: Schiersteiner Harbor is not far away and is a lovely place for a stroll.

Never again! What do guests eat at home when they describe this meal as great or delicious? And then there's the noise in the dining room when a few guests are there! Nobody who simply wants to go out for a delicious meal needs that!

After waiting forever for our food, two carelessly filled plates were shoved onto the table! There was no apology! We also can't understand why guests are praising this food so much! We had a hunter's cutlet with French fries and salad. And an onion cutlet with French fries and salad. What they're offering as a hunter's cutlet is pathetic! There were five small pieces of mushroom floating in my small jug of sauce! Also, the dining room is very loud when there are a few guests in it! No thanks!!!!

I didn't like the spare ribs as much, but my companion's meatloaf was better. We could only manage half the portion at most. The cheesecake for dessert was okay, but nothing more.

Today was definitely my last time here. Unfortunately, the service staff are completely overworked. The food wasn't good. The sausage salad had more onions than sausage, the fries were cold, and the fried potatoes were swimming in oil. Today was my third attempt, and unfortunately, the food got worse each time, but it was quite expensive.

We ended up at Waldgeist by chance. There's a sign at the entrance asking you to please wait and be shown to your table. Of course, that only makes sense if the staff keep an eye on the entrance area and don't constantly walk past it, so new guests aren't seen. We then found a table ourselves. The drinks and food were served relatively quickly. My wife received her wine with a thick, fat lipstick mark. Of course, they apologized, and brought a new glass. The meal took about an hour, which we felt was too long. My wife's shrimp were very tasty, but my schnitzel with its thick, sticky sauce wasn't exactly a highlight. The payment process at the end was also difficult because we were initially forgotten about, or the waiters were a bit overwhelmed. Sure, it was busy, but if I have space for 200 guests, I have to have staff for them. The location is beautiful, but I can't make up for it with what I described above.

The ambiance is very pleasant. The old train station has a charming feel to it. The service was mostly friendly. Unfortunately, around 8:30 p.m., the cleanup rush began, and they tried to take everything from the tables. My partner's sauce was simply cleared away even though she was still eating. And they did it so quickly that you couldn't even hear the stop. The waiter also parked used dishes from other tables at our table in order to get more from other tables. An absolute no-go. Overall, the food was too poor for the price (large schnitzel €30). The sauces were probably from a bucket (a lot of thickener) and only lukewarm. It was a nice outing, but we won't be coming regularly.

Ate a Frankfurter schnitzel. The sauce was very good, the schnitzel was dry as a bread. The fries were mediocre. I had a second glass of wine and a beer. It wasn't really convincing. I've had better food here.

The food was carelessly slapped onto the plate, but it actually tasted okay! After the meal, we asked for the menu again for dessert... another 15 minutes, nothing happened... Improvement needed! Over €30 for a normal-sized schnitzel that isn't even good enough. The sauce is thick and comes from a bucket. Clearly a ready-made product. My sauce jug was taken away from me in the middle of my meal, even though it was still half full, my schnitzel was still on my plate, and I had my cutlery in my hand. Other guests' dirty dishes were left on our table. On top of that, the room is very noisy. Unfortunately, extremely disappointing. €65 for a small and a normal schnitzel with drinks is way too much for this. The portion for €20 is not bad at all. See picture.

I used to go there often, but for me the price-performance ratio is no longer right. Simply raising the prices and having even less on the plate will backfire. By the way, this post was a year old. I think the prices for drinks are totally excessive - a wheat beer for over 5 euros, no thanks, and it will never get any cheaper.

First time, food was good, service was not hospitable!

Food OK, service repeatedly poor! The food is generally okay to good, and the portions are more than sufficient. Points deducted for the consistency of the sauce and the unseasoned fries. Even for the reasonable prices, one could certainly expect a bit more quality here... Unfortunately, the service has been absolutely unacceptable on several occasions, and even with less than 50% capacity this afternoon, we repeatedly waited about 40 minutes for drinks. I'd be happy to see a bit more customer focus again—highly recommended.

Last Thursday we ate at Waldgeist. First of all, I'd like to commend the team: The service was consistently friendly, relaxed, and truly attentive. We were also very impressed with the food and are already looking forward to our next visit.

The "Waldgeist" offers a wide selection of truly delicious dishes at a fair price. The appealing ambiance suits this beautifully located restaurant, which long ago served as a station on the Aartal Railway. We were only unlucky with the service today. The restaurant has a large parking lot and is open for lunch (closed on Tuesdays).

Waldgeist used to be great. Today, it seems to have lost its charm. The food was still good, but the staff were rather unmotivated and not in a very good mood. We didn't feel as comfortable there anymore, but it was... well, okay.

Absolutely embarrassing store. For the second time, we were sent away shortly after 8:00 PM because they weren't busy anymore, even though the store was full, and the kitchen had already closed. That's not service!

Went there on a recommendation. Friendliness is a different matter. I also don't want to be addressed informally by the staff. The schnitzel was okay...nothing more. The sauce, thankfully, came in a gravy boat; it was stiff, mushy, and lukewarm. The side salad was okay, with a bit of a lack of dressing. You're usually happy when things don't take too long, but if it goes too quickly, you feel rushed. All in all...so-so.

We Taunussteiners have always enjoyed going to the Waldgeist but yesterday it was disappointing. Apparently you no longer have to serve your guests. You wait hours for a condition that is/are extremely unfriendly. The portions no longer have anything to do with XXL. Which isn't a problem for us, but unfortunately the price-performance ratio isn't right. Sauces from the packet, fries over-seasoned. The ambience needs to be reworked. Large celebrations right next to the main testing facility (noise, constant in/out) is an absolute no-go. It couldn't be more uncomfortable. The menu online and on site do not match (xxL burger, goulash, salad with goat cheese, etc.)? Plus point: beautifully landscaped terrace for the nice days.

I was there today with my sister-in-law and baby and it was great. The food was delicious and plentiful (we had asparagus) and the dessert was to die for 🤣 The service was very nice and attentive. We would be happy to come back.

Drove by spontaneously on a Sunday evening, sign in front of the door: fully booked. But since some guests went and asked and were given a seat... Service varied in terms of friendliness and overall it was very decent, good schnitzel and filet, delicious beer in a rustic atmosphere, there seemed to be some regulars. Senior portions with a €3 discount are also available. Fits so far!

The taste of the food was okay. However, given the price of the schnitzel, you would expect a larger portion. What bothered me the most, however, was that you can only pay in cash or with a debit card and that's not what it says on the website. Today, someone under 60 or a non-Sparkasse customer no longer has an EC card and doesn't have that much cash either. Stopped here at lunchtime while hiking with friends. There were only a few places left but a place was found for us. The schnitzels were very good - just under 30 euros is steep, but both the taste and the size were right. Cheese spaetzle and pulled pork burgers were also good. The service was quick and friendly. The restaurant, an old train station building, is located in the middle of a beautiful landscape in the Taunus. The service, more than just hospitable. Whether for older people, babies and small children or dogs. Every guest is welcome and treated as such. The food, convince yourself is all I can say. We were there with 4 people, 1 baby and a dog. Everyone left the restaurant with a positive gut feeling and would always come back to spend an evening there again.

Quality has improved a lot. You can now eat very well here.

One of the best restaurants I know! The food is high quality, every bite was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is cozy and calm, perfect for feeling completely comfortable. I would particularly like to praise the waiter Sascha Beiderlinden, who welcomed us with humor and friendliness. The chefs also did a wonderful job! Gladly again!

Unfortunately we weren't satisfied today. 8 people had fries, Champions sauce - totally dry and greasy, drinks could only be reordered if we asked, that's not the case otherwise, it's a shame for the 40 km journey. Unfortunately, savings are being made in the wrong place.

I can only recommend Waldgeist to the Iron Hand! The atmosphere is really cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed lunch. The food is of excellent quality – freshly prepared and very tasty. Particularly noteworthy is the friendly service, which always ensures a pleasant visit. I always enjoy coming here!

A very bad, unfriendly and disinterested service! It takes a long time before you can even order something to drink. When you finally get something to eat, it takes even longer. You won't be asked if you want something more to drink or dessert, etc. It takes forever for the bill to arrive! And it is very overpriced. Not recommended! Hands off!!

A few days ago we had the opportunity to dine at the Waldgeist restaurant. The open ambience is positive; the rooms are bright and rustically furnished. The toilets are clean and the food is reasonably priced. It's also good that there is hot food all the time, so you can get something warm to eat even in the early afternoon. Unfortunately, the service was not very attentive; after asking and serving the drinks, we had to call a waitress ourselves to place our order. It then took at least another 45 minutes for the food to arrive, even though the restaurant was only moderately busy at that time. The food itself was average at best, all dishes consisted of differently prepared meat with sauce and chips, vegetables or salad were not available or were at best in homeopathic doses. I don't think we will come here again. Addendum: After almost a year, the owner tried to have Google delete my negative reviews as "slander". Since I strongly suspect that he has also done this in other reviews and only very few reviewers will have objected to it, the overall rating of the restaurant should be viewed with great caution.

Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant was a total failure. We expected a similarly good quality as in the Waldgeist in Hochheim, but we were disappointed. The quality of the schnitzel and the price/performance ratio were poor. Carelessly prepared and not tasty. The grape juice spritzer had no taste. Despite the low occupancy, the service was disinterested. Unfortunately not recommended.

It is an old train station that has been converted into a restaurant

The nickname XXL Restaurant is no coincidence. This is more about the portion size than the taste. Nevertheless, every now and then we end up here after a nice walk in the directly adjacent forest. The terrace with a small playground is a nice place, especially in summer. But it's also nice to sit inside during the rest of the season. Due to the wooden beams in the roof and a huge artificial tree inside, it feels more comfortable than it sometimes is due to the large number of guests. The food always comes quite quickly, so that sometimes you get the feeling of being mass processed. The staff is always friendly and helpful, even when the restaurant is bursting at the seams. Reservations are advisable, especially on weekends. There are also larger rooms that can be used for groups. As I said, the portions are large, but if you want you can always choose larger. I can recommend the schnitzel and the salad, but I would personally advise against the meatloaf, it swims in a tough mass (cream sauce) and somehow can never meet the expectations that you normally have with a (homemade meatloaf). They also have many children's meals at a fair price. Everyone can find something to fill them up here.

We drove 100km for XXL dishes as advertised on the site, and when asked: "It's no longer available". After 30 minutes a waitress came and asked again for XXL dishes, the gentleman said he was just asking, then didn't come anymore. Another 20 minutes later we called a waitress ourselves and finally ordered. Salad ok but the rest (fries, burgers, schnitzel) like something from a canteen wasn't particularly tasty and expensive, unfortunately, the walk to the restaurant was very muddy and very slippery

Wir hatten mehr erwartet und wurden leider sehr enttäuscht. Das Personal war sehr unaufmerksam. Wir mussten zweimal darum bitten unsere Bestellung aufgeben zu können, während das Personal lieber Smalltalk mit Gästen und anderem Servicepersonal hielt. Beim Essen waren die Saucen gerade so lauwarm und die Sahnesauce beim Schnitzel war so dickflüssig, dass sie nicht von selbst aus der Schüssel lief. Geschmacklich gibt es für die Sauce null Punkte. Wir werden sicherlich nicht wiederkommen und können das Restaurant auch nicht weiterempfehlen.
