Vetter's Alt Heidelberger Brauhaus in Heidelberg

We placed our order, and after 40 minutes, we still had no food. When we asked for it, the food suddenly arrived. The "fried" potatoes were soaked with grease and lukewarm at best. Two herring halves were drenched in sour cream, and the cream noodles were too soft. Two small white sausages were fine. We asked for a glass of tap water beforehand (we also ordered beer, one each at the table). When we asked for one, because no water arrived, we were told: There's no tap water. We should have taken our guest somewhere else. We're from Heidelberg and will certainly never eat here again.

But the place is too full, the food and drinks, the waiters are all good, I don't feel comfortable there.

BEST FOOD WE HAD ALL TRIP, the traditional meat pan was amazing

We waited 40 minutes on a boring Thursday and never got served our order. When we just asked the waiter how much longer it would be, he immediately got angry at us for asking. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave.

A very crowded and noisy restaurant in the middle of a side street off the pedestrian zone. The ambiance is decorated in a somewhat memorabilia-style style. It's very loud and often quite crowded. Time slots are assigned here in a two-hour time frame, which can be a bit stressful when the wait for the food takes a little over an hour. The food is okay in my opinion: classic German cuisine, with decent taste. The prices are reasonable, but a bit high in my opinion. There are a few specials, such as large platters or beer kegs for the table to tap yourself. The service was nice.

Very tasty knuckle...a must have

Touristy at full throttle, food okay, pricey too high. A reservation for 12 people was split between two tables without asking, making it impossible to eat together. We sat relatively squashed together at the tables, with barely any room to turn or move. A keg we ordered was placed on the table with the charming words: "Don't leave a glass under the tap, otherwise the table will get wet!" Truly customer-friendly given the limited space...but customer loyalty isn't the concept here either. Otherwise: Solid schnitzel and beer

It’s a great spot, definitely always busy, so make sure you make a reservation. The atmosphere is awesome and so is the staff. We had the Maultaschen which ended up being a ginormous salad with some maultaschen that tasted like falafel. So I think we just ordered the wrong thing. The other food looked great.

A decent, home-style brewery in the center of town. Prices reflect that. The beer and schnapps were good. Food: The white sausage and venison goulash were okay. The goulash sauce was good. Some of the meat was quite gristly. A shame! The service was friendly and quick. Unfortunately, there was no asparagus—and that wasn't even available at lunchtime. Another shame. Hence only 4 stars.

I'll start this off by acknowledging that this was probably during peak business hours, in a very tourist heavy area. That'll said though, we waited probably 50+ minutes for our meal. I noticed there was only one waiter who had to cover everybody inside and outside, so that didn't help. The waiter we did have was very rude (for American standards) and was just in a rush to get our order, but then forgot about us while we waited about 25+ minutes for the bill. Food was okay, but nobody got theirs warm. At least everything tasted authentic.

Look no further than Vetters! This bustling restaurant was packed during my visit, and it's easy to see why. The family-style seating, where you share tables with other groups, creates an incredibly lively and fun ambiance that's perfect for a social evening. But the real stars here are the beer and the food. Their house-brewed beer is truly excellent, a perfect complement to the hearty German fare. And speaking of food, everything we tried was very good, with the seasoned potatoes standing out as some of the best I've ever had – seriously addictive! Even with a full house, the service was very good, attentive and efficient. Vetters delivers a fantastic blend of great food, superb beer, and an unforgettable atmosphere.

I don't recommend tourists to go to this restaurant. It feels like it's designed to target tourists. I saw that the reviews were quite high at first, but it turned out to be a disappointment, which also ruined my impression of Germans. When I checked out, I was told to pay by credit card. When the waiter brought the credit card machine, the final payment amount was already displayed on the screen. He didn't confirm the order details and how much tip I had to pay again. At that time, I only knew that the amount should have included the tip, so I didn't ask any more questions. After checking out, I found out that the store actually charged a "15%" tip directly. It was a bad practice to force the customer to pay a 15% tip without confirming it. In addition, the pig's feet were roasted very hard and woody, and it was difficult to eat. I don't know if all the pig's feet in Germany are the same, but personally, I think it was unqualified.

The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with that traditional German beer hall vibe. Most of the dishes we had were really good—flavorful, hearty, and generously portioned. Their house-brewed beers are a definite highlight and pair perfectly with the food. Service was excellent—efficient, friendly, and helpful. Big plus points for having an English menu, which made ordering so much easier for non-German speakers. Overall, a great spot in the heart of Heidelberg’s Old Town. Perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner with good beer and classic German fare. Tip: Try their in-house brews and come hungry!

Cannot miss their seasonal biers!

The atmosphere is good. The sashimi was soft and tasty, and the schnitzel was average. The portion was large, so if two people ordered one, they wouldn't be able to finish it all. I was worried it would be too heavy, so I ordered a side salad, but the lettuce didn't wash well, so both of them had dirt on them, so I couldn't eat them...

Traditional food - and lots of it - in an in-house brewery setting. Sure, it's touristy, but locals were eating and drinking there, too.

I wasn't given a separate English menu. With the help of the app and the help of a server who spoke English well, I was able to complete my order of beer and food. Although my order was different than what I had intended, the food was delicious and the service was friendly.

I was at Vetters again. Not much has changed. The beer was very good and drinkable. Very friendly and attentive service. The food was so-so. The cordon bleu was from the deep fryer, and the fried potatoes were too soft and too greasy. Probably a good match for the beer and the usual group of tourists from all over the world. It's quite loud inside, therefore.

A group of 26 Clemson students (from America!!) reserved tables here and could not have enjoyed our experience more. The atmosphere was incredible, service was AMAZING (ask for Abdu - so personable and fun) and the food was perfect. Not a single thing we would have changed!! Seriously do not skip out on this one!!!

For Mother's Day, five of us had dinner there for the first time, at 1:45 p.m. in the salon after making a reservation online (I would recommend it to everyone). It was very cozy, the food was very good and the portions were sufficient. The young man who served us, as well as everyone else, were very friendly and helpful. The menu was very clear and anyone who still likes German cuisine can find what they are looking for. Keep it up. Location is also very well located.

I liked that the staff were very friendly. The schnitzel didn't have much flavor, and the goulash was too salty and characterless for my taste. The salad was large, but the contents were ordinary and I felt there was too much dressing. Perhaps because I had never tried Hakse or sausage before, the food was so-so. Total cost, including a glass of apple juice, is about 45 euros.

A famous restaurant in Heidelberg that sells Eastern European food such as schnitzel and Haksen, as well as excellent beer. The first taste of dark beer that goes down your throat is an unforgettable taste. The schnitzel was a bit dry, but it was great with beer. It was a bit disappointing that I couldn't eat Haksen, but it was a place worth leaving a lingering taste in anticipation of next time. The atmosphere of the store and the street was medieval, so the atmosphere was also delicious.

Rustic and cozy beer drinker brewery

Per una cena con cibo tradizionale è perfetto. Piatti abbondanti che spesso richiedono di ricorrere al doggybag. Birre ottime e abbondanti. È un birrificio.

Craft beer for every taste. Reasonable food prices. I recommend to visit. The specialty of the establishment is its own beer for each season.

Kann man machen, muss man aber nicht. Das Ambiente der Location ist wirklich toll absolut was für das jüngere und Mittelalter Publikum. Die Preise und die Auswahl an Speisen ist absolut akzeptabel. Nur leider die Qualität des Essens ist ziemlich schlecht. Die Haxe hatte keine krosse Haut, sondern nur total lätschig und zäh Die Sauce hat nach nichts geschmeckt und der Kaiserschmarrn war wie aus einer Tüte. Auch die Haxe selber war nicht gut. Schade, denn das Ambiente hier ist wirklich nett und der Service sehr freundlich.

A place next to the Old Bridge, you can expect it is quite for tourist. The pork knuckle is bit not tender enough, but the beer on tap is good, especially the seasonal one. There are English menu which is a plus.

Serving glasses tattoo male. I asked for noodles, but they gave me fried eggs first. When I said no, he brought me a second round of potatoes. Solid brewery, of course a hotspot for tourists due to its location. A bit too expensive for what is offered. Do you have to go? Probably not, there are certainly better restaurants in Heidelberg with a less hectic atmosphere.

The service is very enthusiastic, and there is an endless stream of people in the store. It feels like a popular store, and the atmosphere is on point, with a very German flavor. As for the food, let me first say that the beer tastes good. I ordered the beer recommended by the waiter and it tasted very smooth and full of flavor. The sausage was okay, but the pig's trotters were different from what I remembered. The skin here was not crispy and even a bit hard to bite. The meat quality was good, but it was a bit greasy at the end of the meal, which made me a little disappointed.

I've been a fan of Vetter so far, but today I saw how food is handled in the kitchen. The convenience food/food supplied by the wholesaler is emptied from the cut plastic bags onto trays and heated before it is served to the guests. As a guest, you apparently have to live with the fact that the chefs can only warm up the dishes. What is completely unacceptable, however, is that the dirty plastic packaging (you don't want to know where it was lying around before) is placed on top of the 'fresh' food for the guests and stacked before being thrown in the trash. Absolutely unacceptable and with a high disgust factor!!! No thanks!!!

For tourists wanting to taste German specialties. The schweinshaxe (grilled shank) is however very good as is the schnitzel (breaded schnitzel). Prices too high.

The service was super nice, my son really enjoyed the roast pork, my wife's schnitzel was OK and unfortunately my knuckle was totally dry and a bit too small.

This is the case when the rating of 4.7 is not true. The cuisine (dish, schnitzel) gave the impression that these were heated semi-finished products. The price of the menu offered does not correspond to the quality.

Great restaurant! Due to the exposed location near the old bridge and the large crowd of tourists that walk past every day, I was a little afraid of falling into a "trap". But that was definitely wrong. The restaurant offers German cuisine with a large selection, including vegetarian options. Everyone can find something they like on this menu. The portions were large and very tasty. The beer is tasty. What also stands out for me is the extremely friendly service. The lady at the next table patiently and very friendly explained the dishes to a female guest in English, which really impressed me. The prices are of course a few euros higher than what the same dishes would have cost in a village restaurant, but given the location, they are absolutely reasonable for me. I'll be happy to stop by again when I'm in Heidelberg!

Of course everything in "Vetter's Alt Heidelberger Brauhaus" is quite touristy. The menu offers a potpourri of hearty Palatinate-Swabian dishes from Saumagen to Maultaschen. I think the prices for such a brewery kitchen are quite high. My wife and I still liked it. This was due to the lively atmosphere and the food. The homemade Kurpfälzer sausage salad was solid and the liver dumplings with sauerkraut were wonderfully chunky. The beer (Pilsner brewing style) also tasted good. It was also great to see how confident and friendly the waitresses were in handling all the hustle and bustle.

Went there to try traditional beer and German food. Everything was delicious, but the most amazing part was the welcoming service of our waiter! Definitely coming back when we stop at Heidelberg!

Highly recommend this place. I stay in Stuttgart and was visiting Heidelberg with my mother today. The place is right in the middle of a busy street. The staff spoke perfect English, and even had an English menu, which helped my mom. The person who served us (curly-haired girl - forgot to ask her name) was super nice and friendly with us during the entire stay. The menu has all the classic German fare, plus beer from their own brewery. Will definitely stop by whenever I am in Heidelberg next. Thank you.

A great brauhaus with excellent beer and food, nice staff. I would definitely be a regular if I lived here. The goat cheese salad with a sticky mustard and fig sauce was fantastic. They also brought a bowel of water for my dog who was chilling under the table. I hope to be back!

Yes. The ambience is definitely recommended. Their own beer is delicious even for someone who doesn't particularly like beer. The food was rather mediocre. It used to be really, really tasty every time. Today's all-purpose pan was with very tasty knuckle, good fried sausages and fried potatoes, overly fried meat loaf pieces (still OK) and dry chicken wings, which used to be very good. I probably won't try the next meal here for more than a couple of years.

Food and drinks were absolutely fine. Service was top! Very friendly and attentive! We had our little daughter with us and without asking, the waitress immediately brought a coloring book and crayons for the little one. When we were eating, we were asked if everything was OK and if we perhaps needed a little more sauce for the meat.

Disappointing Service and Poor Time Management I recently visited this restaurant with a small group at 16:30. Upon arrival, we were informed by the waitstaff that the table had a reservation at 18:00, and we were welcome to stay for 1.5 hours. We appreciated the transparency and agreed, planning our visit accordingly. At 17:35, I ordered a dessert with a candle to mark a special occasion, making it clear that we intended to enjoy it within 20 minutes, so that we could leave before 18:00. The waitress acknowledged this and agreed. However, the dessert did not arrive until 17:48—13 minutes later—at which point the next guests had already arrived and were standing nearby. When the dessert was finally brought to the table, the waitress told us that we had to leave immediately because the other guests had arrived. I reminded her that we had communicated our timing clearly when placing the order, and it was not our fault that the dessert was delayed or that the next party arrived early. I gave her two reasonable options: either take the dessert back or allow us to stay until 18:00 as originally agreed. The waitress was notably upset and frowned as she left the dessert. The moment was completely soured by the rushed and awkward atmosphere. Frustrated and disappointed, we chose to settle the bill and leave at 18:00 without leaving a tip. The waitress seemed surprised by this, but given the lack of consideration and poor service, we felt it was appropriate. This experience showed a lack of professionalism and basic hospitality. Restaurants should honor the agreements they make with their guests, especially when timing is explicitly discussed. Unfortunately, this visit left us feeling unwelcome and pressured during what was meant to be a brief but special celebration.

Service and ambience were great, nothing to complain about. Food - well, game goulash is MUCH better, for 26, - you can expect more, the spaetzle was probably frozen, totally floury, the salad was sandy and bland. The toilets haven't been renovated since the 70's - sad Therefore, unfortunately only 1* (I would give 5* for the service - but if I go out for a (relatively) expensive meal, I expect a lot more.

The menus are also available in English, the only problem is that we went with children and I got the feeling that they didn't want us to stay for that reason, given that they were dragging our feet about the availability of a table, that there was a 30 minute wait, that it wasn't worth the wait, etc., which I don't quite understand why.

Authentic German Cuisine with home brewed beer. Thank God! They have a few Vegetarian dishes too! Very near to the Alte Brucke, the Old Bridge. Major tourist attraction of Heidelberg. Would recommend to everyone.

There were not enough servers for the amount of customers. My glass wasn’t clean and I had to wait a long time until I could ask for another. Food was fine, but not spectacular. My partner says the beer is good!

Highly recommended! Had lunch there on a Wednesday. Price-performance is great, service was very friendly and the food came very quickly. Very good for people who like drinking beer and good Bavarian food.

The waiter was very rude, when we were at the restaurant. I asked if I could change a drink, and the waiter shouted at me. Very disapointed and will never go there again.
