Beautifully located in Heidelberg's old town, Vetter's is definitely worth a visit. From homemade beer to good food, you can be happy here.

Unfortunately, I have never eaten such bad food! The potatoes were overcooked, the Condon Bleu was unseasoned and the beer sauce only consisted of liquid fat and unfortunately had nothing to do with a sauce. The cabbage in the cabbage rolls was also very tough and therefore inedible… It's a shame given the very impressive prices. The service was very nice, but couldn't make the subterranean food any better. PS: The food in the pictures had nothing to do with what we received!

The pretzels were warm and so welcome in the cold. The beer was appreciated and the vibes were also nice. It felt very authentic and German. We reached late and they were just closing the kitchen so we generally got drinks. Some of it was served fast, some a bit slow.

I really enjoyed my meal, though it wasn't the same for my Peruvian family, who were experiencing authentic German food for the first time. I tried recommending something I thought they'd like, but they liked my combo sausage plate more than their Schnitzel... a classic, I know, but I enjoyed finishing it off for them after we traded plates! The beers were SO GOOD... as we're the desserts! It was very busy for to some kind of music festival going on, so I can't really blame the wait staff much for the slow service, but I can't give them a 5 star rating for service, since we got skipped for table service, and waited a long time for the food and dessert service... our waiter was often nowhere to be seen when we needed some water or another beer... but otherwise, we really enjoyed our meal there! Great, authentic German food and atmosphere!

A friendly waiter asked us to wait 10 minutes for a table which we did. After about 15 minutes we walked in and were greeted by an extremely demanding and rude (different) young waiter with dark brown hair who said “it’s busy, LEAVE now as we are full” despite multiple seeing multiple groups of people leaving whilst we were waiting there now being empty tables. After explaining to him that we had waited after his colleague asked us to do so “ok wait then, look around, we need to clean the tables” in a very disrespectful and dismissive way. I was not expecting to have been yelled at for walking into a restaurant.

We visited this place on the weekend, understandable that we had to wait 5-7mins for a seat, the service was quick but inattentive. Great beers, we had the beer paddle with the strongest beer in the world. Additionally we also tried the strawberry infused beer which was sweet, sour. A good experience overall. We ordered Cordon Bleu, which came with fried potatoes and dark beer sauce. You had to look for the cheese...The Cordon Bleu was completely tasteless. Unfortunately, the sauce also tasted like it came from a bag. The brewery is divided into two rooms. The next room is unfortunately very uncomfortable and the toilets (including the way there) were completely filthy. If I had seen this before, I certainly wouldn't have eaten there. Where the good reviews come from is a mystery to me.

We love going to a Brauhaus when in Germany; so when we came across this one we were very excited. Then finding out about the world's strongest beer... Well, we just had to go. I really do not understand the reservation system. We tried making a reservation for Saturday night at 7:30 and it was denied. We walked by at 8:30 pm and the place was only 1/2 full. We were able to get a reservation for Sunday at 6:30, which is a little early, but we figured it was busy again. However, the same thing as Saturday, by 7:30 there was a mass exodus and by 8:00 the place was deserted again. We were really hoping to sit in the main restaurant, but were shuffled off to the overflow room next door. The atmosphere in the overflow room is just bland. You don't feel at all like you are in a German Brauhaus. It is just plain walls. Thank goodness there were some empty tables outside due to the rain, because it was probably 38 degrees inside the building, and it was comfortable outside. Other than that it was a very good dining experience. The beer was good, but my recommendation is to save the Vetter 33 for after dinner. It is a very sweet drink. It reminded me of an after dinner wine or sherry. VERY VERY good, but it would have been the perfect end to a meal along with the crumble. My wife raved over the chicken wings, she said they were some of the best she has ever had. I enjoyed my sausages and sauerkraut. It was delicious. I especially like the way they shredded the sauerkraut, it was smaller than you normally get, and I enjoyed the texture of the kraut as much as the taste. I would certainly recommend this for a visit when in Heidelberg.

Natürlich kein Gourmet-Restaurant, aber eben genau das, was sich der "Touri" unter einem typischen deutschen Brauhaus vorstellt: sehr gutes Bier in guter Auswahl, super Bratkartoffeln, Schnitzel und Beilagensalat in Ordnung, Wirthaus-typisches Ambiente, Bedienung super-freundlich und "fit" - also klare 5* Bewertung (nach internationalen Kriterien).

Birra nella media, neanche troppo buona, ma la vera chicca è che la cameriera tutta carina che ci aveva accolto, al momento del pagamento, visto che non le ho dato nessuna mancia (non ci avevo neanche fatto caso sinceramente), non mi ha neanche ringraziata, salutata o guardata in faccia. Assolutamente mai più.

Conclusion in advance: Disappointing for me in the service and quality of the food. There were four of us at Vetter's Alt. Our order was taken. When I asked if I could have a dumpling, which was listed as optional, instead of the side bread, I was told "No, that's only available with that"... so I ordered it with it. I ordered a small salad as a starter, roast pork with mashed potato bread and the extra dumpling. I got the dumpling first, then the salad and the roast at the same time. When I pointed out that I had no room and wanted the salad as a starter, they said "sorry, I misunderstood", so after the salad my food was as good as cold. However, I had to ask for the bread three times and only got it when I was almost finished... Personally, I found the salad dressing to be very boring and almost tasteless. The roast pork was OK, but not a masterpiece of culinary art either. The mashed potatoes were left almost untouched and I didn't want to eat them. The sauerkraut was overcooked for my taste and not sour at all, but it was full of caraway. My companions' assessment of the food, service and friendliness also remained rather cautious. I am very disillusioned and even disappointed about my visit.

Great food and drink. We came here for lunch and dinner and enjoyed both. It was lovely weather so the outdoor tables were filled but managed to get a table inside. Some tables are massive so you might end up with another party at the same table but didn’t bother us. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a good German meal in the old town.

Super Service. Sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Da gibt es nichts zu meckern. Das Bier war auch lecker, allerdings die Getränkeauswahl für nicht Biertrinker ist etwas mager. Tafelwasser finden wir etwas teuer (4,60€ für 0,5 Liter). Essen fanden wir bürgerlich gut. Schweinebraten war zart und saftig, Sauerkraut gewöhnlich. Die Biersauce war vermutlich aus der Packung aber definitiv gepimt. Semmelknödel mit Pfifferlingen war lecker, Brauhaus entsprechend. Wer Sterneküche erwartet ist hier falsch. Für die touristische Lage ist das preis-Leistung Verhältnis absolut okay.

The sausage salad that my son had ordered was so spicy that he had to swap it with his dad (he had ordered something else) and his head was spinning too. My daughter's fried potatoes were well seasoned on the outside, but weren't really well fried. My Kaiserschmarrn was neither attractively presented (not even powdered sugar), let alone tasted like Kaiserschmarrn should taste. I recommend looking for another recipe where the dough isn't so greasy. Unfortunately, it all took a long time to happen, although there were still a few tables available all around. All in all, not quite optimal.

I tried the beer sampler and the lager, which is a familiar taste, was the best. The schnitzel sausage taste wasn't bad. However, there were a lot of customers so the staff seemed busy.

It was a satisfying meal. The hakse, which is slightly crispy on the outside and soft and tearful on the inside, is more suited to Korean tastes than anywhere else. The sampler beer allowed me to experience a variety of beer styles as expected from a brewery.

The food was good, with the schnitzel with dark beer sauce and fried potatoes, the schnitzel + sauce was delicious, the fried potatoes unfortunately had a strange aftertaste, the chanterelle schnitzel with cream sauce was unfortunately more of a cream schnitzel with 3-4 chanterelles, then you could have given that as a gift. The beer was excellent and the coffee was good too. Unfortunately there are few seats outside, which is of course due to the space, but the interior is rustically and comfortably furnished.
