The Wild Duck in Hannover

We had a wonderful evening. The autumn menu was truly delicious. Consistently delicious dishes, good service, and delicious drinks. The ambiance of wooden tables and warm lighting was very pleasant. The floral decorations were a perfect fit for the season. If you want to find something to improve here, then it's at a very high level. Both the natural wine pairing and the non-alcoholic pairing had special highlights and we enjoyed them. Overall, we are very satisfied and can warmly recommend The Wild Duck to anyone willing to spend a little more for a great meal.

Service difficult to understand

An absolutely comfortable atmosphere thanks to the abundance of wood. Pleasant, unobtrusive service, who explained each course thoroughly. I was disappointed by the chipped china in some courses, which detracted from the overall impression of the food. Overall, I would have liked to have seen some of the dishes seasoned more boldly. The fish course with sake beurre blanc and both desserts were particularly noteworthy. Absolutely worthy of a Michelin star. We would gladly return.

The Wild Duck truly surprised and impressed me! A strong team and interesting cuisine. A truly unique experience.

The food at this restaurant was creative and good, and the owner and chef were extremely friendly – ​​but not at Michelin-star level for me. Unfortunately, the entire evening was overshadowed by the service, especially the sommelier. Even the champagne (Roederer Rosé, later billed at €28) arrived at the table much too warm. When I pointed this out, I was simply told that it was fine, I could just throw in an ice cube. I finally did, which I did: chilled it briefly, then removed the ice cube and placed it in the water. Nevertheless, the carbonation had already dissipated – the enjoyment was gone. For me, true champagne enjoyment actually means that even the glass is pre-chilled, in the freezer or refrigerator, so that it condenses and the champagne is perfectly presented. A price of €28 for a glass of Roederer Rosé is certainly within the usual range in a Michelin-starred restaurant, but seems rather ambitious in a non-Michelin-starred restaurant. At least the espresso was deducted from my bill at the end. The white and red wines served later were also mostly too warm. The wine pairing itself was nothing special – perhaps not to be expected at €67 for six glasses, but it falls short of the standard conveyed by the presentation. For the last course, I was offered a wine from a Coravin bottle, for which there would be "only a small surcharge" – specifically, it was €18. When I declined, the sommelier replied (as I remember it) something like, "Well, enjoy your VDP wine." Instead of being able to enjoy my meal in peace, I felt rather disturbed by these constant interactions with the sommelier. In addition, the portion sizes and the use of ingredients seemed rather homeopathic to me. The billing was also initially incorrect: I was initially charged for the entire menu, including the deleted mackerel course, and additionally for the upgrade for the lamb – which unnecessarily increased the price. Only after I complained was this corrected, as can be seen on the receipts. Furthermore, water wasn't refilled once during the entire evening – I had to keep refilling it myself. The final impression is that the good food and the friendliness of the chef don't match the service, the wine pairing, and the pricing. For an evening that ultimately cost over €230, I would have hoped for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Since this wasn't the case in my case, and I therefore don't recommend the restaurant, I can only give it one star – even though I feel sorry for the kitchen and the owner.

I ate the menu, and every course was an experience. I had read a detailed review about this restaurant in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung a week earlier. The descriptions there were absolutely accurate. Highly recommended. However, the accompanying wines took some getting used to.

All the information was delivered without emotion. The wine list was only presented upon request. The restrooms are thinly soundproof, and you can hear voices from the kitchen.

A comfortable, living-room atmosphere. Service was very good, but could also be in a restaurant with ironed tablecloths. The standard of the restaurant would reflect that. The question here is whether the presentation should be casual chic or the above. You can certainly do both. The food was incredibly finely seasoned, cleverly cooked and seasoned, brilliantly top-notch, but if we're at such a brilliant level, perhaps with 2-3 comments for "improvement," without really wanting to presume. The presentation was mackerel. In my opinion, the puree and the fish should be chewable together. The saltiness of the fish harmonized brilliantly with the velvety texture of the puree. But they were eaten separately. Perhaps that was intentional. I would have liked it even better if it had been different. The duck in the bathtub is a bit firm, and therefore very large. A great gimmick, but the flavor is somewhat overshadowed by the wonderful menu. The highest praise goes to the kohlrabi soup and the duck with crunch. World class. Thanks again for the great evening. We'll be back!

I think this restaurant is simply wonderful. It absolutely deserves a Michelin star. Perfect cuisine, extravagant flavors. Attentive and competent staff. We've chosen this restaurant for the second time. We love this restaurant and I think it's one of the best in Hanover.

We had a truly lovely evening yesterday at The Wild Duck in Hanover. The food was absolutely outstanding – each course was characterized by great creativity and exciting flavors. We would especially like to highlight the homemade bread, which was a real highlight! The chef and owner also impressed us with his pleasant, relaxed manner and created a relaxed atmosphere at the table. Unfortunately, the service couldn't quite keep up: The waitresses seemed overly pretentious and stressed at times, and the team wasn't particularly well-coordinated. This somewhat tarnished the otherwise overall positive impression. Conclusion: From a culinary perspective, The Wild Duck is a definite recommendation; those who value a relaxed service atmosphere should be prepared for some minor compromises here. We'd be happy to come back anyway – the food is worth it!

The Eat & Art event was very successful and the food was EXCELLENT.

An evening as it should be! We were looked after by friendly staff, and the restaurant was prepared for a food intolerance, so we could sit back and relax. The little surprises between the announced courses continually amaze and delight us. Such creative, delicious food, without excessive frills, delights the heart and the senses! Pleasantly full, but not burdened despite the abundance of different dishes, we hopped on our bikes and rode the 23 kilometers home through the balmy summer night. We'll be back!

More than just a meal. Perfect all around, we'll be back!😇

We had a six-course meal, four of which ranged in taste from good to excellent. Unfortunately, one course wasn't convincing – its flavor was indefinable and the quality was significantly below the level of the other dishes, which is why I had to leave it after two spoonfuls. As for the overall impression, there was a noticeable lack of attention to detail: several plates had cracks, and some of the glasses were visibly stained. Such issues unfortunately persist throughout the entire evening and tarnish the impression – especially in a restaurant that aims to convey a certain level of sophistication. The service was consistently friendly and attentive, which we greatly appreciated. Nevertheless, for an evening with a bill of over €300, we expect a more coherent overall picture – not only in terms of cuisine, but also in terms of presentation and atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's not enough to warrant a return visit.

The fine dining experience at Wild Duck was a mixed one, with a clearly positive one. First of all, I opted for the vegan menu (€99) with the non-alcoholic accompaniment (€49). The ambiance in the restaurant overall was beautiful, quiet, and well-maintained. However, there are certainly restaurants with more flair and charm, where you get the impression that the particularly beautiful decor also underlines the exceptional quality. The service was always friendly and, when serving the dishes and, in my case, the non-alcoholic companion, always explained what was being served, which I found fantastic. Although I myself am of immigrant origin and am used to a thick German accent in my environment, I unfortunately found it very difficult to understand the service at times. Another shortcoming, which I didn't expect in a restaurant in this price range, was that the waiter who tried to take our order didn't know the menu content and had to call another colleague. She, in turn, had trouble remembering that the fifth course of my vegan menu was supposed to be dessert, and that the fifth course of my companion's vegan menu was supposed to be the cheese platter (they could choose the fifth course). That can all happen, and I'm by no means petty, but in a fine dining restaurant, that's what you can expect, and in this price range, you should. The rather disappointing experience for me was the five-course menu. Aesthetically, everything was absolutely beautiful, but in terms of taste, only the first, second, and fifth courses were very good. The other two courses (including the main course) were bland and nothing special. I'm also aware that aesthetics, taste, etc. are always subject to highly subjective perception, but my expectation is that every bite has to be great—and there are restaurants (even in significantly lower price ranges) that can deliver that! The accompaniments from the kitchen, for example, were all tastier than the courses themselves. That was really great, but also irritating, because you were there for the 5-course menu. The non-alcoholic accompaniments (€49) were average and nothing special, except for the non-alcoholic Limoncello Spritz. Unfortunately, you can really skip that. The alcoholic drinks and aperitifs were great, like my Sarti Spritz, which I had beforehand. Overall, a solid restaurant with potential for improvement, but not worth the money for me personally, knowing that others might see it quite differently.

A fine-dining restaurant on the rise. After a difficult run, you can sense the effort everywhere to once again offer fine dining at a high level. Friendly service from a young team, who enthusiastically take on the task of becoming an unobtrusive but always attentive companion throughout the evening. A very pleasant ambiance with a modern rustic style. Many small courses and entrees of modern fusion cuisine with German, French, and Asian influences. A good wine list with something for everyone. A highlight was the "Wild Duck" wobbly dessert – it was so sweet that our daughter couldn't finish it :-) We wish the team continued success on their journey to the top!

Very innovative delicious courses

We had another wonderful evening at the Wild Duck, now our fourth visit. The food was, as always, delicious and creatively presented. This time, the service was also good, although the quality was down compared to previous visits. The wine pairing presentation, in particular, was less than impressive. When I asked questions, they couldn't provide a definitive answer as to what I would expect from a restaurant of this kind. Overall, we had a lovely evening and would still recommend the restaurant!

I haven't eaten this good in a long time. Everything is perfectly balanced, with surprising flavors. Simply top-notch. The only thing missing from the Michelin star would have been warm bread.

An outstanding menu with intense flavors! A very pleasant, cozy, and relaxed atmosphere. However, the service was a bit disappointing compared to the food. The chef, who also served for part of the day, beamed and presented the dishes with joy and passion; it was fantastic! Unfortunately, this spirit wasn't evident in the rest of the team. While the staff were attentive and friendly, some of them seemed a bit listless, even awkward at times. We would have also appreciated a more detailed (and perhaps more passionate) presentation of the wines during the wine pairing. That was a shame. Perhaps the team was having a bad day yesterday. We will definitely be back.

Great taste compositions served in an environment with a clear design. No frills and not overly experimental, which I personally like. Praise to the service and the wine pairing, who had answers to all questions.

The food is excellent. Fine dining, mostly combining traditional dishes with modern influences. And the positive thing is that they dare to season! It's served spicy, salty and bitter. As a guest you have to be prepared for this - I love it! Compared to jante or crafts, I feel much more comfortable here. Here I never got the feeling of being awkward or uncultured - which I have certainly felt in other fine dining restaurants. I've been here about 4-5 times and would love to come back!

Cozy, relaxed atmosphere. Very young, friendly team. Not necessary, but the boss personally comes to the table to explain the courses, which we thought was great. Quality of food, creativity and taste experience were fantastic! Worth mentioning, because it is anything but obvious, is the vegan version of the menu! Thank you and see you soon!

What struck us particularly positively was that, with the exception of the fish course and the duck course, everything was vegan without exception. The vegan alternatives to fish and duck were absolutely equal. The staff was extremely attentive and the drink recommendation was perfect even for non-alcoholic drinks. There were a few surprises regarding the dishes and we were entertained with excellent culinary delights over the course of 4 hours. We'd love to come back!

Unique experience. First of all, this was my first experience in the world of fine dining. For me, a greasy kebab from Dönerbuden Ali will always have a place in my heart but the experience at The Wild Duck was something completely new. We ordered the non-alcoholic accompaniment to our 4-course menu. In addition, a greeting from the kitchen was always served between courses. Without going into detail about each dish, I would say in summary that all the dishes caused a taste explosion in the mouth. What particularly stood out was a starter that was served with fried cabbage on a miso-beetroot foam. You felt the need to lick the plates. But the main course was also terrific. It was the best duck breast I've ever been served. There was also a gravy and plum sauce. This combination harmonized wonderfully with the duck. The chicory was also no less present. This was flavored with smoke and its crunchy consistency went perfectly with the hearty duck. The non-alcoholic drinks were served with each course and were also something very special. Most of these were juice-based in some way and were fermented or otherwise intensified. Each course was described by the service when it was served and the flavor matching with the respective drinks was explained. Speaking of service. All I can say about this one is that it was terrific. I have never felt so well cared for. Incredibly friendly and accommodating. The owner is also worth mentioning. He also worked in service on our evening and was totally personable. It's very easy to talk to him and I think that gives the place a certain relaxed, pleasant nature. I can definitely praise everything about this restaurant. For me, I can say that I was able to experience flavors here that I had never been served before. Now about the price. We paid €330 including tip for one evening for two people. I can understand everyone who says that that's too much money. The decision is up to everyone. We will definitely come back. Our first fine dining experience, but definitely not our last. Excellent food that was accompanied by very attentive and friendly service. My physical disability (a missing arm) was responded to courteously and the food was prepared accordingly so that I was rarely able to enjoy my meal so effortlessly and relaxed. Wir haben im Wild Duck einen tollen Abend verbracht. Angefangen durch die herzliche Begrüßung, das erstklassige Essen, welches überragend präsentiert wurde und uns Geschmackserlebnis sondergleichen bescherte. Der ein oder andere Gruß aus der Küche krönte das Menü ab.. Die Weinbegleitung wird toll präsentiert, hier versteht man (Frau) sein Handwerk. An der Akustik im Restaurant könnte man noch etwas arbeiten, was sich aber vielleicht auch schwierig gestaltet, das die Räumlichkeiten nicht sehr groß sind. Dies sollte einen aber noch davon abhalten, hier einen besonderen Abend zu verbringen. Danke dem Team vom Wild Duck!

Absolutely top class! We had a 4 course meal with wine pairing and an overall absolutely great evening. Great and super nice service, exceptional and excellent food, the wine service was also great. Definitely a recommendation!! 😍
