I enjoyed a wonderful five-course omakase today. The ambiance is pleasantly cozy and stylish. The service was friendly and attentive. The courses were delicious, with the nigiri being the highlight for me, especially the Wagyu and eel. This restaurant is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I've enjoyed in Frankfurt am Main so far. I would love to return and highly recommend it.

Food remains high-quality, but service is terrible. Our waitress was literally not able to pour our saki bottle into four glasses equally. She poured the entire bottle into three glasses and forced us to buy a fourth bottle just for the fourth glass, which was totally unnecessary. We spent €200 per person and it was not worth it!

A truly unique experience! The omakase is an absolute highlight. Perhaps the best sushi I've eaten in Germany so far. Better than many Japanese restaurants in Düsseldorf! The sake accompaniment is also an absolute must.

The air conditioning was necessary, but it made everything feel very cold and sterile. There was no music playing in the background, and you were surrounded by five people while you ate, all of whom looked a bit helpless. Overall, the situation was a bit bizarre. This one star is for the good service. Nothing is good apart from the friendly staff here. The fish was not fresh, 5 out of 6 appetizers were very salty, the soup was like instant noodle seasoning, the sushi was hard to describe, and the dessert was nothing to say. Anyone who has eaten omakase in Japan or other parts of Asia should avoid this restaurant, it is too bad

Each dish was a gastronomic masterpiece! Friendly and attentive service. Good drink list. Food quality was amazing! Not cheap, though, budget ~€160-180 per person for a menu and drinks included. You won’t leave hungry, that’s for sure.

Best sushi I have ever eaten in Germany. Salmon and tuna are very fresh and melt in your mouth. The highlights of our evening were the appetizers. They are really creative and packed with umami. The price is high, but it's worth it. I can only recommend.

Anyway, it's the most delicious restaurant. You can enjoy authentic sushi. It was a dish that all the cooking staff, including the chef, thought was wonderful. The sushi was of course the best, but it was a course meal that you could enjoy from start to finish, including the dessert.

Overall, the evening was a great success. The five-course omakase menu was really great and a joy, especially the Wagyu sushi was really great. The sake chosen by the waiter to match the main course was another nice extra. The service was really attentive and friendly. However, there are small things to complain about: the entrance that smells like a drain, as well as the unfortunately neglected price-performance ratio, which surprised us when paying. Conclusion: the restaurant definitely has the potential for five stars in the future.

The sushi was very good and the service was very friendly but at the same time a bit inattentive. The worst thing, however, was that I was cold the whole evening as we sat at the bar. Apparently we weren't the first because Ikea blankets were laid out there. All in all, you can eat one star for the money. The ambience, the furnishings and that certain something are missing here. Price performance completely excessive.

Fantastic food and great, pleasant service that makes you feel completely at home. The Wagyu steak in the Chateaubriand version is certainly one of the tastiest dishes I have eaten in my life so far. It wasn't our first and definitely not our last visit to The Sakai. Our phones stayed permanently in our pockets that evening, so there were no photos of the food.

Unser zweiter Besuch im The Sakai Frankfurt war erneut ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Von der ersten Sekunde an wurden wir von dem aufmerksamen und freundlichen Personal begrüßt und phantastisch durch den Abend begleitet. Die kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten waren wieder einmal ein Highlight. Jedes Gericht, das wir probierten, war ein wahres Meisterwerk – von der Präsentation bis zum Geschmack. Die unglaublich frischen und hochwertigen Zutaten sowie die kreative Zubereitung, haben jedem Bissen eine ganz besondere Note verliehen. Ein großes Kompliment an den Küchenchef und das gesamte Team! Der Service war wie beim ersten Mal hervorragend. Die Mitarbeiter aufmerksam, aber unaufdringlich und standen jederzeit für Fragen oder Empfehlungen bereit. Wir fühlten uns rundum gut betreut und haben unser Essen in vollen Zügen genossen. Wir können und möchten das The Sakai Frankfurt jedem wärmstens empfehlen. Es ist der perfekte Ort für einen besonderen Abend, an dem man sich kulinarisch verwöhnen lassen möchte.

Wir waren hier zum unseren Jahrestag. Das war ein tolles Erlebnis. Wir haben schon lange nicht so gutes Essen gegessen. Die Service-Kräfte sowie der Koch waren sehr freundlich. Das Essen insbesondere Seafood waren sehr frisch. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder. Von mir aus absolut empfehlenswert. Ein kleiner Verbesserungswunsch ist, dass WC im Laufe des Abends nicht mehr „in Ordnung“ war. Die WC könnte etwas sauberer sein. Aber wie geschrieben wir sind im Großen und Ganzen sehr zufrieden.

With all respect for a gastronomic concept, it's also about how we liked it. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the evening at The Sakai. It just wasn't something we would go back to or recommend to our friends. Only the service is remembered positively, specifically that of the young lady. Even if you take the quality of individual foods into account, in our opinion the price-performance ratio is not good. It is and remains a matter of taste and we are happy if other guests like it better.

Excellent experience. They really nailed the vibe! The atmosphere is cozy and I was expecting things to feel stale or too loud, but the table setup, music choice, and acoustics were perfect. We weren't even sitting in a 'good' table, so I don't think you can go wrong. The service was great without being overbearing. Food came out promptly and every dish we had was a hit. I highly recommend and will be back!

Top Adresse für gehobene japanische Kaiseki Küche. Der Service ist gut, Ambiente und Essen über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Würde bei erneutem Besuch definitiv am Tresen sitzen wollen um dem Künstlern in der Küche zuzuschauen. Empfehlung wäre die Saké Begleitung direkt mitzubestellen und eine gewünschte Pause irgendwo im Kaiseki Menü bei der Bedienung anzumelden. Sonst kommen die Speisen etwas zu schnell und die Getränke hängen ein wenig hinterher.

Herr Sakai hat sich am Ende des Abends mit uns unterhalten und uns etwas über seinen Werdegang erzählt. Sehr interessant! Thekenplätze sind sehr zu empfehlen, da man bei der delikaten Arbeit der Sushi Zubereitung zuschauen kann. Wir werden gerne erneut dieses Lokal besuchen. Arigato Gozaimasu

Essen wie immer sehr gut, Service leider Katastrophe

Sakai 1.0: Wir haben einen Tisch an der Theke reserviert. Leider wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass der Platz an der Theke garnicht an der Theke ist. Sorry Open Table oder war jemand höher in der Prio. Anyways... Sakain 2.0: Gestern, netter Empfang, coole Atmosphäre. Nette Jazz Musik und die Theke war die Theke. Wir haben Omakase 7 Gänge gebucht, dem Chef überlassen, was die auszahlbaren Anteile sind. Omakase nach Japan-Style halt. Einige Upgrade Vorschläge, die wir dankend angenommen haben, dazu bitte das Sake Menü. Also, für 2 Personen so 500-600 Euro. Die Vorspeisen kamen mit schönem Sake und die eindeutig nicht japanische Bedienung kam auch und teilte uns ultimativ mit, wir hätten auf jeden Fall bis 21.00 fertig zu sein, da der Platz neu vergeben wäre. Insgesamt okay, wenn ein Restaurant Plätze mehrfach vergibt, aber das macht man doch über den Service klar. Japanisches Restaurant, 500-600 Euro Invest und dann eine Burger King Ansage. Geht garnicht, ist aber auch sicherlich ein Problem des Service-Personals, das man heute so bekommt. Wir sind gegangen und das beste, was festzuhalten ist, ohne Rechnung. NEVER AGAIN, das ist Äpplewoi Schänke Niveau. Gut, dass das Takafumi den Abend gerettet hat, Rezension folgt, da weiss man noch mit Kunden umzugehen. Sakai, ein echter Abtörner.

Update: after the renovation, we unfortunately don't like the Sakai that much anymore. The beautiful Japanese furniture has been replaced, which means the restaurant has lost some of its charm. Unfortunately, the quality of the food no longer convinced us. We suspect that the chef (perhaps even the owner?) has changed. Overall, unfortunately not worth the money. ———————————— The taste is a dream! Friendly service, nice location and pleasant atmosphere.

A real gem in Frankfurt! We ordered two Omakase menus: one classic and one vegan. Every plate was delicious, from the starters to the dessert platter. We could see the chef craft the sushi from our spot at the bar, which made it a truly memorable experience. We also enjoyed the decor, music, and sake selection. The staff was truly lovely and even surprised us with some birthday cake!

We visited to celebrate a birthday. We could not ask for a better vibe. The food was unique, beautifully presented, and tasted delicious. Service was very attentive. Cannot wait until I get the opportunity to visit again!

Wir waren zu zweit und hatten beide das Omakase Menü, absolut frische Produkte, künstlerisch angerichtet mit perfektem, freundlichen Service. Ebenso die Sake, welche ich zum ersten Mal getrunken habe, war für mich ein Erlebnis. Preislich gehoben, aber für das gebotene, das handwerkliche, absolut gerechtfertigt und jeden Cent Wert. Wer japanische Küche auf höchsten Niveau erleben möchte, ist hier genau richtig. Ich werde sicher wiederkommen, vielen Dank für einen tollen Abend ans Team.

My boyfriend and I celebrated my birthday at Sakai Restaurant a week ago and it was a completely unforgettable experience. I chose the 6-course menu, my friend chose the 7-course menu, and both options were simply fantastic. We also particularly enjoyed the wine and sake accompaniment. Each selection was perfectly matched to the dishes and further rounded off the culinary experience. The service staff was also exceptionally friendly, courteous and always attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting, which made the evening very special. All in all, a perfect choice for a special event. We'll definitely be back

Wir waren von unserem Besuch leider schwer enttäuscht, dabei hatten wir uns so gefreut, endlich im Sakai essen zu gehen. Da wir die durchweg positiven Bewertungen gelesen hatten. Wenn man alleine für das Essen mit 150€ pro Person, einen gehobenen Preis zahlt, so erwartet man auch einen gewissen Service des Personals. Leider wirkte das Personal auf uns recht ungeschult, unbeholfen und uncharmant. Ich weiß, dass es seit Corona schwierig ist gutes Personal zu finden, aber dennoch erwartet man dies in der Preiskategorie. Am Tisch neben uns merkte eine Frau an, dass ihr der Thunfisch zu „fischig“ geschmeckt habe. Hinter dem bedienenden Kellner standen 2 Kellnerinnen mit großen Ohren und verdrehten Augen. Angemessen wäre es stattdessen gewesen, uns etwas zu trinken anzubieten und die Beschwerde professionell anzunehmen. Übrigens, ich fand den Tuna auch zu fischig, ich weiß jetzt genau was die Dame meinte, habe mir aber eine Kritik gespart. Das Essen war gut, aber nichts was den Preis und die herausragend guten Rezensionen wiederspiegeln würde. Aber vielleicht wurde der Geschmack auch durch den miesen Service getrübt. Alles in allem, werden wir nicht wieder kommen und können auch keine Empfehlung aussprechen. Schade!

Das 6-Gänge Menü war fantastisch! Wir wurden auch sehr satt. Wir haben nur alkoholfreie Getränke bestellt und waren begeistert! Wir hatten einen spritzigen Traubensaft, der uns sehr positiv überrascht hat und ein Glas Saft aus einem roten Basilikum, das unglaublich lecker war. Der Service war top! Für Veganer besonders toll! Das Restaurant ist unbedingt empfehlenswert!

Das Essen war sowohl optisch als auch geschmacklich perfekt. Der Service war ebenfalls hervorragend. Wir haben „The Sakai“ besucht, weil wir unseren Hochzeitstag gefeiert haben und ein besonderes Essen genießen wollten. Beim Dessert wurden wir mit einem Feuerwerk, einem Polaroid-Foto und Süßigkeiten überrascht. Es war ein wirklich toller Service.

Vom betreten des Restaurants bis zum verlassen, war der Service sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Egal ob deutsch, englisch oder natürlich auf japanisch. Jeder kann sich dort ohne Probleme verständigen. Wir hatten das "Standard" Omakase Menü mit 6 Gängen und jeder davon war unglaublich lecker und richtig schon angerichtet. Wer die Möglichkeit hat, sollte sich zum essen an die Theke setzten. Sehr interessant dem Meister beim Sushi machen zu beobachten. Auch die Auswahl an Weinen, Sake und anderen Getränken war groß und preislich vollkommen in Ordnung. Für dem Service, das Ambiente & die Qualität des essens, muss man natürlich mehr bezahlen als in vielen anderen Restaurants aber für einen besonderen Anlass bzw. Abend sollte dies einem Wert sein.

Ein wunderbarer Abend, fantastisches japanisches Essen und ausgesprochen nette Bedienungen. Jeder Gang wurde genau erklärt und war ein wahrer Genuss. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

If you happen to visit Frankfurt, I highly recommend this place. Multi-serve menu, the chef is a native Japanese! The only negative when we had dinner there was that it was “a little” noisy, but if you are a true connoisseur of Japanese cuisine, this is not a problem! The presentation and taste of the food are amazing! We were served 7 courses and each had its own wine, and we were told what each dish was! I definitely recommend visiting! P.S.: Smoky beef, you'll lick your fingers! I didn’t have time to form it because I ate it right away! The beef melts in your mouth!

We have eaten here now several times. Each time it is its own unique and exciting experience. We truly enjoy the attention to detail and flavor of the food - it raises the experience to the next level. Also, the service and friendliness is beyond expectations. Amazing experience in one of the best Japanese restaurants in Germany.

If there is a restaurant that takes the art of food to a new level, it is this one. Our visit was a true feast for the senses from start to finish. I can safely say it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The food was simply excellent. Of particular note is the smoked Wagyu sushi - an absolute must for anyone who finds their way here. The ambience of the restaurant also contributes to the special atmosphere. The furnishings are stylish and modern without appearing cold. The dim lighting and tasteful decoration create a warm and inviting atmosphere in which you will enjoy spending time. The service was also excellent. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and always available without being intrusive. What particularly impressed us was the attention to detail: every wish was fulfilled and you could feel that the well-being of the guests comes first.

Food is fair but not for the price and much less for a one-star Michelin restaurant. We had regular menu with wine pairing and no dish was remarkable. Not to mention an overdone wagyu. In terms of service, again, nothing special. Inexperienced waitresses with a unorganized table handling that did not match our expectations. A couple of time an disgusting bath smell surfaced and the kitchen personnel walked out the kitchen with cleaning tools on the way to the toilet. I just hope they wash their hands afterwards

The business is located in a cellar-like space, which is nice upon entering, food is fine, service is also good, atmosphere is a little less, you notice that there is a kind of tense atmosphere, there is no passion in their work, I have one had a nice evening. 😊

We came across the restaurant by chance via a YouTube video and just thought: we have to go there. No sooner said than done, we easily reserved it via Opentable and arrived by public transport, as it is only a 5-minute walk from the Südbahnhof. We were greeted very nicely and the various menus were explained to us. I chose the Wagyumenu, one of my best decisions ever. First we got a colorful mix of appetizers (there's something for everyone here), then a salad and then fried shrimp. The absolute highlights in my opinion were the sushi and the Wagyu steak. One taste explosion after another, sensational! Afterwards there was a platter with various dessert bites, not everything was to my taste, but everything was excellent. Finally, a sake as recommended by the house, very tasty. The price may hurt, but only once when paying. The experience of taste and service lasts forever. I can only recommend everyone to visit this temple of pleasure, it's worth it.

Food is the best Japanese food in Frankfurt in my opinion. The chef knows his craft and the food is on the same level as a star restaurant. However, I can understand why it doesn't get enough of a star here: service is not good. You have to refill your own drinks, the sake accompaniment was forgotten during a course, that's completely ok for a middle class bar. For 400 euros for two people it's simply not enough. No air conditioning, the air in the restaurant is too stuffy and warm in the summer, you could invest in air conditioning here. Toilets not clean and old, could also be renovated. So eat 1+ with a star, the rest is satisfactory. So there is room for improvement, the food is great!

Das Ambient im Keller hat uns nich gefallen. Kein wirklich japanisches Flair wie es wohl vorher war. Wunderkerzen bei Feierlichkeiten sind zwar nett, aber der Geruch hängt lange im Raum. Es ist zwar klar, dass am liebsten die Menüs verkauft werden, aber ein Hinweis auf die Möglichkeit à la Carte zu essen wäre gut. Das wurde nur recht widerwillig gewährt…
