Taverne Kavala in Herne

Great Greek taverna! Our visit at 5 p.m. was rather spontaneous and without a reservation, but we still got a nice seat. I definitely recommend making a reservation. There was plenty of parking right next to the taverna. The ambiance in the dining room was nice and modern. The lighting was harmonious and subtle, as was the Greek background music. The food was very tasty, with plenty of it, even for those with a larger appetite. We tried several appetizers (warm, stuffed vine leaves, tzatziki, spicy feta cream, and bread). The tzatziki was particularly delicious. We had a salad as a side dish from the clean and tidy salad bar, and our main courses were a gyro plate with croquettes and a Kavala plate with various meats and rice. Both main courses were beautifully presented and very tasty. I can't comment on the restrooms, as we didn't use them. They're located outside in the hallway. Payment was easy with an EC card. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with friendly service. We'll be happy to go back. Thank you very much. Addition: We couldn't finish everything, so we asked for the rest to be packed up, including the small portion of tzatziki that came with the meal. Unfortunately, the portion of tzatziki was missing, but we didn't notice until a day later. Because it's part of the paid meal, and I specifically asked for it to be packed up, I have to deduct another star.

Delicious and reasonably priced. The decor is simple and functional, rather than the kitsch columns often found in Greek restaurants.

We celebrated our wedding at the Kavala Tavern, and it was simply perfect! ❤️ The food was incredibly delicious, the portions generous and freshly prepared. The service was warm, attentive, and super professional – we and our guests felt completely at home. The venue itself is beautiful and created a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you to the entire team; you made our day unforgettable!

Very nice, both inside and on the terrace. While you enjoy your meal, you can watch a tennis match or two. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look so inviting, but inside, it's delicious, fresh food and friendly service! It's worth it!

Taverna Kavala is a true gem for lovers of Greek cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with warm hospitality that makes you feel like you're visiting friends. The menu offers a wide selection of classic Greek dishes – from tender souvlaki skewers and fresh seafood to hearty moussaka. The lamb chop platter is particularly recommended; it's perfectly grilled and incredibly tender. The portions are generous, and the ingredients taste fresh and authentic. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with traditional decorative elements that evoke Greek hospitality. Whether for a relaxed dinner for two or a convivial gathering with friends, Taverna Kavala offers the perfect atmosphere for every occasion. The only downside: it can get quite busy, especially on weekends, so reservations are recommended. Overall, Taverna Kavala is a true taste of Greece in Bochum – in terms of food, atmosphere, and hospitality. Highly recommended!

I pre-ordered the food and picked it up. Very nice. Mom and I really enjoyed the gyros with house sauce. We will do it more often...

The interior is great, even though it is right next to a tennis court and from the outside it looks like a clubhouse (or it used to be). The service was good. Unfortunately the food was smaller portions and not according to my wishes. Not good in taste. A beer garden is available in summer and is quite nice. You can see and watch the tennis courts close up.

Very friendly and very tasty. The zucchini fritters were absolutely top notch and the meat dishes were as expected. We liked it very much.

We can't understand the good reviews at all. The food was disappointing! The salad selection was very small (buffet). The only fresh thing was the cabbage salad, otherwise everything came from a can. There were no tomatoes, no cucumbers, nothing! There were no typical Greek oven dishes and the rice was simply out of the bag, or at most mixed with tomato paste. The meat from the grill was completely burnt, so you didn't taste ANY of the meat's flavor, just the burnt, bitter taste. The reaction to the fact that you can't eat the meat and that they should please do something about the price (which cost over €20 per portion, without any real side dishes) was very rude and aggressive. The answer to that was that the meat was from It's a grill and it tastes like a grill. Oh right? At other places, grilled meat doesn't taste that burnt. However, they have the main courses (the meat) removed from the price. The restaurant was very nicely decorated, the music was good and the drink selection was also good. Unfortunately, it's also the only good thing. Too bad!

I go to Wanne-Eickel a few times a year to visit my great aunt and we eat here every time. The food is very tasty. No matter what I have ordered so far, it has always been extremely tasty. Service staff always have a smile on their faces, they often ask you if you have anything else you would like and you are served quickly. The side salad concept is very well implemented here: you can help yourself at the salad bar and only put what you really want on your plate. There are four different dressings to choose from and they all taste good. So far we have always gotten a table without a reservation. I will definitely continue to come here to eat.

A nice restaurant, from the outside it looks like the clubhouse of the local tennis club. Located right next to Eickeler Park, you can go for a walk afterwards or before. From the inside it looks dignified and there is also an outdoor area. You should book in advance, otherwise there may be a shortage of seats. Greek menu😁👍 Everything was very tasty and plentiful. There are own parking spaces Always my pleasure.

The meal was okay. Not special, but not catastrophic either. Prices are a little more than normal for Greeks. I think paying 50 cents for ketchup and mayonnaise is a lot, especially since you can only get a salad plate once, no matter how big the plate is. Service was nice and friendly. From the outside the place looks like a clubhouse, which it probably is with the tennis court outside

Very tasty food at reasonable prices. It is a bit unusual to find such a restaurant on a tennis court. The food (grilled plate) came quickly and fully met my expectations. Juicy meat, prepared to perfection and the portion is more than sufficient. The only point deducted from the ambience is the tennis court on the terrace. The interior is dominated by coordinated furnishings. If you go to the Greek, then only go here. I will definitely come again.

Was by far our favorite Greek restaurant for many years. The portions have become smaller, even though they are now spread over several plates. In the past I could hardly manage the Kavala plate, last time even our children managed it.

Good restaurant at Eickler Park. I would definitely go again. There are enough parking spaces available. Accessibility.

Total tolle Gerichte. Sehr lecker und ein überaus freundlicher Service. Meint man gar nicht, wenn es aussieht, wie ein Tennisplatzlokal. Von innen auch sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Parken direkt vor dem Haus. Bestens!

Also wir waren hier als Gesellschaft und was soll ich sagen, Fleisch war sehr trocken und schmeckte bitter. Kartoffeln waren wohl zu lange im Konfektormatrn denn die waren von außen ziemlich hart. Räumlichkeit war sehr beengt. Nur die Bedienung war echt gut

Meine Gyros Pfanne war gut, jedoch das Gericht Schweinefiletspitzen war "tot" gebraten, Marke Schuhsohle. Trotz Reklamation, kein Kommentar aus der Küche.

Schönes griechisches Restaurant in einem Tennisclub. Man kann herrlich auf der Terrasse sitzen, und das Essen war richtig lecker.

Chefin schien genervt von Gästen zu sein. Nicht allzu freundlich, sehr reserviert. Servicekraft sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Jedoch lange auf dem "Trockenen" gesessen. Essen OK.

Vor gut zwei Jahren waren wir dort und waren vom Essen begeistert! Wir waren gestern wieder mal in der Taverne Kavala essen und wir waren sehr enttäuscht. Meiner Frau wurde eine Portion Reis serviert, der beim Schlucken staubte! Der Service war eher unaufmerksam und vertauschte bei uns am Tisch trockenen und lieblichen Wein. Ich bekam zwei Stücke absolut schwarze, totgebratene Leber serviert. Ungenießbar! Nach der Hälfte der Portion hatte ich keine Lust mehr darauf. Beim Abräumen sagte ich der Servicekraft, dass die Leber nicht genießbar sei. Sie teilte mir mit, dass sie es in der Küche weitergeben würde. Bezahlen musste ich trotzdem den vollen Preis. Eine Unverschämtheit! Das war das letzte Mal für uns in diesem Restaurant!

Von aussen vorne nicht so einladend typisch Tennisanlage. Immen jedoch sehr gemütlich. Draußen eine tolle große Aussenterasse mit Blick auf die Tennisplätze. Personal sehr freundlich. Essen gut und reichlich. Preis Leistung stimmt. Empfehlenswert.

Mussten sehr lange auf das Essen warten :-( Zaziki war zu kräuterlastig, die Portion souvlaki war eher klein....

Nachdem Kavala umgezogen ist, haben wir es nochmal ausprobiert und waren sehr überrascht und gehen mittlerweile sehr gerne dort essen. Das Personal ist freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis passt ebenfalls. Mittlerweile gut zu empfehlen

Haben einen Tisch reserviert für 18 Uhr. Für einen Sonntag Abend war nicht vieles los aber deswegen war es gemütlicher zu essen, ohne Maske, und Die Zeit miteinander zu genießen. Das Essen war hervorragend und die Kellnerinnen sind sehr nett! Kann ich empfehlen für ein gute Zeit und gutes Griechisches Essen.

Bedienung freundlich und die Speisen sehr gut. Der kalte Vorspeisenteller ist ein kleiner Geheimtipp was Auswahl und Menge angeht.

Sehr angenehme Atmosphäre bei richtig leckeren Essen, die Bedienung ist aufmerksam und sehr freundlich. Parkplatz direkt vorm Restaurant. Liegt direkt am der Tennisplatz. Zur Zeit 2 G natürlich mit Personal Ausweis
