Normally, the customer should be king. However, a voucher was no longer accepted. Yes, the three-year statutory period has expired (although the years of the pandemic were in between), but the reason given was a change of ownership. I googled it and found that there had already been a change of ownership in 2019, and apparently it was within the family. I simply don't understand why they couldn't show a little goodwill and retain a customer who would have left a positive review. What a shame!

My Visit to Tacheles – or Why It's So Difficult for an Austrian to Survive in Germany For a chef, there are three major culinary challenges: a soufflé, a Beef Wellington, and a Wiener Schnitzel. The latter is not simply a craft, but both a science and an art. Flattening or pounding the prized cut of meat is an art that requires decades of training. Breading demands the precision of an astronaut – the breadcrumbs must have the right consistency and must never be pressed onto the meat with too much pressure. Frying the schnitzel in clarified butter is the next delicate step. If the temperature of the clarified butter is just one degree too high or too low, everything can be ruined. 175 degrees – exactly! No more and no less! The schnitzel is then stirred rhythmically in the hot fat with wave-like movements and fried until golden brown. This is called souffléing. Souffléing a schnitzel means fluffing up the breading by swirling the schnitzel in hot fat so that it separates from the meat and puffs up in waves. This technique creates a particularly airy and crispy crust, as air collects in the spaces between the layers – a skill mastered only by the most accomplished chefs. The golden-brown schnitzel is lovingly patted dry and garnished with a lemon slice. It's served with a lukewarm potato salad – nicely "streaky" – dressed with citrus vinegar, shallots, and chives. Cranberries are available upon request. Ordering ketchup is practically a crime in many parts of Austria – one of the few offenses still punishable by caning. But I digress. At Tacheles, however, the schnitzel is topped with melted cheese upon request – a sight that could send a Viennese person into septic shock. But that's just the beginning of the horror, by no means the end. In the next stage of my culinary martyrdom, I discovered that the schnitzel, already unrecognizable by the cheese, was then drowned in a pool of sauce. The motto here is: pick your poison. The offender can choose from a wide array of sauces: pepper, mushroom, devil's, roast, or—most disgusting of all—hollandaise. To inflict maximum agony, my companions, of course, ordered hollandaise. I'll never understand it. First, you bread the schnitzel to make it crispy, and then you drown it in hollandaise sauce! And I'm not talking about a spoonful of sauce—no, the poor schnitzel was literally drowned, almost like a garnish in hollandaise soup. The schnitzel was practically drowned, almost like a garnish in hollandaise soup. To inflict maximum agony, my companions naturally ordered hollandaise. My companions didn't hold back on the side dish either, ordering fries with ketchup and mayo. Here too, the motto was: more is more! The fries disappeared under a thick layer of mayo, which frayed pink at the points of contact with the ketchup. Over time, you could watch the fries absorb the viscous mayo mixture, becoming soft and soggy, taking on the consistency of baby food. I was stunned by the fact that my companions enjoyed it – they even complained that there wasn't enough sauce on the schnitzel and not enough mayo on the fries. You can't blame the chef or the restaurant. It's a shame, because you can eat well at Tacheles. I had a Baden specialty: brisket with horseradish sauce and soup potatoes (horseradish sauce and boiled potatoes). It was truly excellent! The chef demonstrated great skill. The meat was cooked to a beautiful tenderness, yet still had a bit of bite. The same was true for the soup vegetables. The horseradish sauce had a well-rounded, slightly sweet spiciness that provided a lovely aromatic contrast to the rich, brothy flavor of the brisket – the complete opposite of what my companions were eating. You can eat well at Tacheles, but you have to choose wisely!

Tacheles used to be an absolute must-visit. Today, unfortunately, it was a complete disaster! The schnitzels were dry and tough and had no flavor, and the fries tasted of old grease and reheated food. The restrooms weren't inviting either. Puddles on the floor, the inside door handle was missing. The menu has been replaced with an ugly plastic board, giving the impression of a snack bar. We were very disappointed. We used to be regulars here, but this is unfortunately our last visit. Unfortunately, that doesn't take away from the lovely rustic wine cellar atmosphere we experienced today. The service, however, was very friendly.

Received incredibly bad soup and didn't eat it. I reported it to the waiter, and all he offered was an apology. I had to pay full price for a container of seawater. Plus, a bottle of water was more expensive than half a beer.

Super salty soups. We didn't even finish half of them. We told the waiter, and he said, "Sorry." I also ordered tafelwasser. It was listed at €3.50 on the menu, but they charged me €4.90 because they gave me another one. €27 down the drain.

The atmosphere and service were nice, but the food was far too expensive for what you got and the quality. The vegan schnitzel was good, but they didn't really offer a choice of vegan sauces, which didn't really make sense. The coffee was good, but the pumpkin salad for €15? A bit of leaf salad with cabbage and carrot salad, wobbly cucumber slices, a simple, not particularly good and far too acidic oil and vinegar dressing, garnished with four sad pumpkin slices that weren't cooked properly and were still far too hard, with a bit of honey smeared on to make them sweet, way too caramelized. You could do better, especially for that price!!!

Delicious beer! Great service! Nice decor. The place is always packed. It's best to reserve a table in advance! We were lucky that one just opened up. A little info: Schäufele in Freiburg is simply Kassler in the rest of Germany.

Today, five of us spontaneously dropped by Tacheles without a reservation, along with our not-so-small dog (60 kg). After only a short wait, we were assigned a fantastic table in a cozy alcove. Our dog was given a bucket of water in no time, and we received very, very friendly service! Delicious food, great atmosphere, incredibly dog-friendly, and exceptionally attentive, super-friendly staff! Great! We'll definitely be back on our next vacation. Thank you so much!

Personally, I thought the food was incredibly delicious. 10/10. The incredibly friendly staff let us take our time choosing what we wanted and recommended things we might like. When we walked in, we got a table right away, and the food arrived in 10 minutes. Despite having a large group next to us, it was incredibly delicious. The turkey schnitzel with spaetzle and gravy was €16, but highly recommended and really good value for money. 👍👍

This was unfortunately somewhat of a disappointment. Ordered the Duo Schnitzel (Schnitzel for 2, you save something like 90 cents). But we were billed for 2 individual Schnitzels, not a great disaster. However the potatoes were completely salty and ruined much other taste of the food. We mentioned to the waiter which seemed to listen but really not take notice. Then we went on to the payment, and at that point the waiter apologized but his credit card terminal had not been functioning all day, and could only take cash. Why do you in a busy area mention this before servicing guests? We then had to find an ATM nearby to withdraw cash, which in itself can be a problem if you do not have your physical card on you, since many ATMs do not accept contactless withdrawal.

For years, this restaurant has been our first stop when we come to Freiburg. We always order schnitzel with side dishes. We were always delighted with the atmosphere and the food. Unfortunately, it has declined significantly and is very disappointing. The schnitzel was unfortunately far too dry. The side dishes were very poor. The fries were left in the fryer far too long, and the fried potatoes weren't crispy at all. Unfortunately, all the sauces come from a packet. It's a real shame.

We ended up at Tacheles by chance, and next time we'll be there, it won't be a coincidence. It was really great. Very pleasantly surprised. Great service, great food. We'd love to go back.

After seeing that Monday was Schnitzel Day, we wanted to eat schnitzel as a group. The atmosphere was great, and we thought the dish would be too. We ordered two schnitzels and other dishes as the dish of the day. The service was friendly, but unfortunately, they didn't take our order properly. We received two different schnitzel dishes, one with and one without salad. We also mentioned this after she came back and started arguing with us. One salad was forgotten. After I had eaten half a schnitzel, I had to remind her that one salad was missing. Her colleague brought the salad, and it was delicious and fresh. On the other hand, the fries were under the schnitzel, and these (see photos) had been in the fryer too long and were dry. There was also a small amount of fresh fries. I told the younger colleague that it wasn't a good idea to serve the guest something like that and that I myself am a chef with 15 years of experience from the Hofbräukeller in Munich. Hopefully she'll pass it on to the chef...that's why she gave it such a good review!

The schnitzel isn't your average schnitzel. The schnitzel is frozen and not real schnitzel, a no-go for Freiburg residents. Sorry. The sauce is okay. As a Freiburg resident, I wouldn't eat there again. The service didn't even thank me for the tip.

The trump card of "Tacheles" is definitely the staff. Everyone was super friendly and attentive. I've experienced something different before. The ambiance outside in the courtyard in the summer is very inviting. We had schnitzel for dinner. I'd say it was OK. The schnitzel and fried potatoes were well-cooked and seasoned. What could perhaps be improved is the skin on the sauce in the small jug; perhaps stir it again before serving. This happens due to the thickening agents used while keeping it warm. The sauce tasted okay, though. It would have been purely aesthetically pleasing. I would definitely come back.

Huge and typical restaurant in a lively pedestrian street. We were in the basement, great atmosphere on match night, but the service was slow and even if the plates were generous, it lacked that little extra something tasty (vegetarian spaghetti pan and Schnitzel). Friendly and smiling service

The meat was overcooked, the lettuce was brown at the edges, the radishes were probably from the day before (the white one was completely pink), the fries were OK.

The daily special was schnitzel with French fries and a salad. The schnitzel was awful. Dry and tough. The fries were okay, and the salad was already brown in some spots. The radishes had already taken on the color of the skin. Not recommended.

The food was good, we both had spaghetti, but the service was terrible, aside from the issues with the waitress. While we were eating (dinner), the owner came to tell us that the restaurant would close at 8:30 PM, without even giving us an hour's notice when we entered the restaurant. Then, when we wanted to pay in cash, he told us they didn't accept cards with the POS behind us. I would never go back. (We took the rest of my girlfriend's dinner away in foil.)

The cheese spaetzle is abysmal! A bit of cheese and onions on top, watery ready-made spaetzle underneath with far too much butter, no seasoning or cheese, and no salad. For €16, it's a disgrace.

The place is perfect, but we were very disappointed by this experience. We ordered 3 cups of instead received 3 small cups with a single scoop of ice cream. It was clearly a mistake from the kitchen — these things can happen, so not to dramatic. However, instead of acknowledging the error, we were forced to pay for something we didn’t order. We explained the situation, but the server refused to admit the mistake. Finally we received a "discount", which is nothing compared to what we have to pay. Be just careful.

Upstairs, there's a pleasantly shady outdoor area. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. Heading downstairs, you'll find the interior: a huge basement room that becomes a party location in the evenings. TVs are everywhere, regularly showing football or darts. The restrooms are available and clean, and the staff were consistently friendly. I'd especially like to highlight our waiter, who served us as he often does. He's super nice, extremely attentive, and has a great feel for guests. It's exactly these kinds of people that make the difference; you notice it immediately. You feel truly welcome here. The menu is rather small, which I personally see as an advantage. It's clear, and you can easily put together your own meal without feeling overwhelmed. My special recommendation is the Schnitzel Monday! Unbeatable value for money. As you can see from the pictures, we opted for the duo schnitzel platter, which usually has even larger sauce jugs. Today they were a bit smaller, probably an exception because no larger ones were available. Nevertheless, everything was prepared to perfection. The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and we were once again completely satisfied.

Impossible and unfriendly! As a sports bar, it's impossible to show the end of the French Open final for 30 minutes when RTL Trash TV is currently playing on the TV and the next soccer match doesn't start until 9 p.m. Simply sad!

This place is GREAT! The atmosphere is very chill and all of the stuff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food was great and super value for money! We ordered a plate for two, with two pork schnitzels, side dishes and sauces of our choice. While the schnitzels might not be the biggest, the plate was loaded with fries-potatoes and everything was extremely tasty and of great quality. We also visited the next day and everything we tried was excellent once again. If you are looking for some value for money German food, you can't go wrong here.

I can draw a positive conclusion: I ordered a steak that was well-cooked and tender. The herb butter that accompanied it was particularly tasty. The portion was quite large. The decor—we ate in the basement—exudes a rustic charm.

Located on Grünwälderstrasse, where the women of the Zum grünen Wald monastery once lived, Tacheles is a place to stop and enjoy a meal in its leafy courtyard and cool cellar with its old building structure. You can also watch football on TV in the rock cellar. My baked potato with quark and salad was delicious. Pancakes and schnitzel are also freshly prepared here. A cozy atmosphere!

The schnitzels are excellent, among the best I've ever eaten in my life, and there's a wide variety of sides and sauces to choose from, so there's something for everyone. The prices are affordable and the service is very friendly! See you soon.

Take a deep breath. The best part first: Attentive, nimble staff behind the counter. The decor is a bit dated and rustic, fine if you like it that way. The annoying thing: What could you possibly do wrong with schnitzel with fries and sauce? I'll tell you. Frying the fries twice makes them dry and hard. Sauces from a bucket that taste like pure MSG. Making the simplest things without love has always been a mystery to me. The schnitzel is fresh and solid. So, a little more affection for the product would be needed to earn it another star. One more thing: the draft beer is also impeccable.

The food wasn't great; the fries and sauce were only lukewarm, and the schnitzel had been in the pan or oven for too long, resulting in a dry, dark-brown meat in some spots. All in all, a bit of a disappointment given the lovely ambiance.

If you want to watch sports and eat delicious food, this is the place for you. Delicious food and attentive service.

You should know Tacheles. Over time, however, things have changed at Tacheles. The selection of schnitzels has been limited, and salad is no longer available with the schnitzel menu. But that's not a problem, because the portion sizes have largely remained unchanged. Plus, it's always very busy on weekends.

The best place to eat breaded cutlets!

Gran lugar en el metro donde los alemanes se escondieron durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Muchas de las cosas que usaban siguen ahí. El servicio al cliente era genial, al igual que la comida. Volveremos a Frieberg en octubre y hemos hecho planes para volver a comer allí.

The first meal Ive had in Germany I liked. Very heavy and indulgent but tasted on so good.

Asked the waiter for the toilet directions and got sent to the wrong one, was really disappointed with that( Ordered Schnitzel with fries, Schitzel was ok but the fries were too dry and some pieces were even cold, felt like they just reheated them again. Was really disappointed with the sauces, that tasted like 1€ noodles seasonings. Wouldn’t recommend
