The dishes were prepared quickly and were delicious. From appetizers and main courses to desserts, there was at least one vegan option for each course. The staff were super friendly.

Beautiful location on the edge of the Black Forest. Yet still essentially a city location. A great local recreation destination. And there's culture too. I'm 64 and have enjoyed going there every now and then for 45 years, including with my guests from the west and north :-)

The Waldsee is a Freiburg institution.. unfortunately the catering leaves a lot to be desired.. the menu is really very manageable.. fantastic in the summer.. ice skating in the winter.. yes, that was possible in the 70s of the last century.. great events next door with great bands.. unfortunately died down.. Greetings Ilona and Stefan Kreuz from the beautiful Dreisamtal near Freiburg.. the Freiburg Ganter brewery gets ice for cooling from the Waldsee.. the Waldsee is always worth a visit whether summer or winter 💋

The service that evening was excellent. The food was delicious (the schnitzel was a bit salty—but that's a high point). The spaetzle and sauce were delicious. The view of the lake is beautiful, and they're dog-friendly at Waldsee, too. Fair value for money.

We celebrated our wedding here, and it was simply perfect from start to finish. Scheduling, detailed planning, wine tasting, decor coordination, and organization including the cake and DJ—everything was perfect. Daniel takes his time and answers all of our questions. The entire Waldsee team was absolutely friendly, helpful, and quick; it was fantastic. Our guests praised the food and drinks several times. I would gladly give it more than 5 stars. Highly recommended as a location for a wedding, including a ceremony in the beautiful pavilion. High praise to the entire team

Beautifully located restaurant by the lake. They offer several vegan dishes. We had the pretzel burger and the spinach strudel. The pretzel burger was tasty, but it was missing something. The spinach strudel, on the other hand, was very tasty, but I didn't see any pine nuts, and the arugula didn't look as fresh. The William Sour was also very good. The waiters were all friendly and attentive. We'd gladly go back.

I can't rate the food, as we only stopped here for a drink, but it was absolutely delicious! 😋 The staff was super friendly, and the surroundings added to the perfect setting. 🥰

I was a guest at a wedding reception on July 25, 2025. The staff was super friendly and the service was consistently excellent. The food was particularly outstanding; everything tasted amazing and was beautifully presented. A perfect celebration from start to finish; I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

The food was okay, but the schnitzel with fries/burger was bland and simple, as was the entire menu. It was very crowded, and we sat near the restroom, which was downright disgusting. The smell during the meal was not pleasant. The floor in the restroom was damp...the toilet was dirty. The service was extremely friendly. The outdoor seating was nice, but uncomfortable. Sometimes the restaurant suddenly closes for a party, so it's better not to go out for dinner on the spur of the moment. I found it disappointing...a shame, it could be better.

Had a salad and a house burger with fries. It was good but the dressing and the patty were unfortunately too salty. Service was very friendly and efficient, with waiters running to provide best service. I was happy to leave a good tip. The setting near the pond and in the forest is beautiful

The staff was super friendly and attentive—there's really nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, the cheese spaetzle couldn't keep up: bland in taste, barely noticeable cheese, and a rather mediocre texture. It's a shame, because the atmosphere is lovely and the service is genuinely attentive. Maybe just choose a different dish.

Very friendly staff and good food for a fair price

We celebrated our wedding at Waldsee and had very high expectations. All expectations were exceeded so far that even six stars wouldn't have been enough. The service, food, and location were simply perfect. From five in the afternoon until five in the morning, nothing was left to be desired.

We spontaneously stopped by for a snack after the outdoor pool. The service was friendly and quick. We got a table with a view of the forest lake, even though it was full. We were lucky. Despite the very high temperatures (37 degrees Celsius), it was nice and cool (forest) and there were no mosquitoes. We had sausage salad with fresh coleslaw (refined with caraway seeds), carrot salad, and a side of leaf salad. Definitely worth trying. Very tasty and fresh. It's nice to take a walk around the area. Beautiful location.

I still like the ambiance; in summer, you can sit outside, if you're lucky, down towards the lake. The staff is friendly and attentive. The menu is small and straightforward. I enjoyed it, but the portion was just as manageable as the menu itself. €18 was too expensive for my taste, considering the size.

With a superbly idyllic location yet just a stone's throw from the city center, the Waldsee is always worth a visit. I'm always delighted by the vegan and vegetarian dishes on the menu (highly recommend the tarte flambée). Whether for coffee in the afternoon, dinner in the evening, or just a cold beer, the Waldsee is always a good choice.

A lovely forest inn with delicious food and reasonable prices, right on Freiburg's Waldsee lake. Great opportunities for walks around the lake and in the forest.

Ordered a salad with turkey strips, but the meat was very pale, looked dry around the edges and not really fresh, and didn't taste good either. The asparagus cream soup was inedible, tasted like water with lumps of asparagus. The soup was canceled, I only paid half the price for the salad, and I got an ice cream. The service was very attentive.

You definitely have to visit at least once. Excellent service, top value for money, and a fantastic atmosphere.

We were staying at the nearby campsite, from which you can reach the restaurant in just a few minutes on a pleasant and beautiful walk through the forest. Unfortunately, the weather was bad, and accordingly, there were very few guests. But we were also early. The service staff were all very friendly, accommodating, and attentive. Even special requests or combinations not listed on the menu were easily accommodated (at no extra cost; in fact, they even took care to find the best option for us). A small gift bag with art supplies, stickers, puzzles, and games was immediately brought to our daughter, which helped her pass the short wait. The food was delicious, if not exceptional, and the portions were perfectly fine. The fried potatoes could have been a bit warmer. The drink prices were also reasonable. Overall, the value for money is excellent. The ambiance by the lake is fantastic, and if the weather had been better, we would certainly have stayed a little longer. The interior dining area is a bit too sterile for my taste, but I'd prefer the beautiful terrace with its lake view anyway. If we're in the area again, we'll definitely come back here.

The ambiance is easily 10 stars instead of 5, that's for sure! The food and menu are limited, but everything is super fresh and delicious, and the price/performance ratio is completely justified! The staff is friendly and attentive. I can only recommend it. A unique place to eat and then take a lovely walk by the lake, it's simply inviting! It's also the perfect location for events!

We went there today to get a table. An employee answered us very ironically. After a table became available we asked if we could use it and she only responded after she finished another conversation with someone else. After we sat down at the table he brought the menu and threw it on the table. That bothered me and so we decided to leave there and not visit that place again.

A lovely beer garden overlooking a little lake. Very picturesque setting and tasty food. We only had a small dish but the burgers from the next table looked absolutely delicious and gave us food envy. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was delicious, but the prices were a little too high for the portion sizes. The service was great! We were served quickly and friendly. After a short inquiry in the kitchen, a change request was implemented in our favor. A small drawback was the background noise. When we arrived there wasn't much going on and we were able to eat in peace. Towards the end the dining room filled up and it became noticeably louder. When the weather is nice you can also sit outside with a view of the lake.

I have been renting the Waldsee restaurant's event hall for various public concerts and events for over 10 years and can only say extremely positively about the care and support from the Waldsee team. We try to make everything possible and the room itself can be used optimally for my events and concerts. Plus, the food always tastes wonderful.

We registered online at short notice for Sunday brunch. The buffet was plentiful and from cheese, sausage, ham, antipasti, fruit, yoghurt, muesli to scrambled eggs and white sausage, there was something for every taste. Later there was a smaller warm buffet. The staff was very nice and attentive and the price of €21 was absolutely right. We will be happy to come back on our next visit to Freiburg.

Beautiful, delicious, friendly staff

We were there for brunch on Sunday, okay for the price. Delicious white sausages and pretzels! Lunch was also okay in terms of taste, there was pasta, chicken breast and oven-roasted vegetables with feta. However, there are also two points of criticism, firstly the cleanliness of the plates and cups and secondly that the actual warm dishes were sometimes rather lukewarm to cold. Here you should perhaps invest in better technology in terms of dishwashers and warm grinding options.

We stopped in because of the good reviews. Maybe we were 5pm too early, but the food was disappointing for the most part. Spaetzle with sauce was not fresh and had been heated in the pan for too long, so it was dark and hard in places. Burger tasted good but was no longer hot when it arrived at the table. The salad was good though. But the prices are juicy. €7.20 for spaetzle with sauce of this quality is not acceptable. But we were served very well and friendly.

Small but nice concert location on the outskirts of Freiburg.

I celebrated my birthday brunch with 30 guests at Waldsee on Sunday, March 23rd. Everything was beautifully arranged and delicious! Many guests commented positively on the location. Thank you, Waldsee team!

Great, always uncomplicated and friendly location by the lake with a great atmosphere, especially outside. Whether it's breakfast, coffee and cake or a drink in the evening - the Waldsee institution is always worth a visit.

Unfortunately, the WaldseeBurger looked nothing like the one shown in the picture here. The potato chips were soaked in grease and almost black. Even after the complaint, none! Improvement. The bun / citizen “flaked” apart and the consistency of the vegan mayo was like jelly. What a shame! My husband had the food returned and didn't have to pay for it. Thanks for that! Still very unfortunate. I have known the Waldsee for 23 years and am a regular guest. I would like the Waldsee to offer as good food as it once did. The selection was very good and the quality too. We will try it again and hope it gets better 🍀👋

Nice place to spend a relaxing evening. While it is oppressively hot in Freiburg, the temperatures are usually pleasant at Waldsee. The food is good for a business that has to serve a lot of people at peak times. The service is friendly and attentive, although sometimes very stressful. Nice outdoor area at the Waldsee, inside more of an atmosphere like a train station restaurant.

If you don't come as a group but only as a couple, you feel pretty lost in a very loud, large room. The actually nice ambience suffers greatly as a result. The food is really good, a selection of juices and mineral water would be desirable.

I had brunch with 14 people and I can only recommend this restaurant. Great atmosphere and very tasty, varied food. There were four of us vegans and two vegetarians (the rest ate everything) and everyone found something, even the hot dishes. Price/performance is completely consistent. We had a wonderful waitress, but the second service wasn't very pleasant. We ordered beer and cola with the hot dishes. The waitress didn't move a meter, we had to pick up our drinks from her and distribute them. Unfortunately that doesn't work at all and it spoiled the otherwise perfect morning a bit and therefore one star less.

We were eating here with a bus group, but our bus driver wasn't kept free!

We had a company party in the Waldsee with 40 people. Everything was great - from the ambience, the great service and a grill buffet, which everyone was thrilled about. The whole evening was perfect all around and we will definitely celebrate there again. Many thanks to Mr. Kern and the team.

The service is attentive and the seating is nice. The schnitzel is very dry, the fries are lukewarm, the spaetzle is unsalted. This was the second time I've eaten here and I'm really not impressed.

We were able to enjoy a wonderful breakfast with our guests. The quality, quantity and service were right. There was neither hectic nor stress. Everything was right for us. Thanks to the super nice team!!
