Cafe Marmell in Freiburg im Breisgau

We came at 4 p.m. and even though they are open until 5 p.m. Then an extremely unsympathetic waitress with long brown hair, who has often been extremely unsympathetic, said it was already the last round and we weren't getting anything more. Lol, a whole hour before the end and guests who arrived after us were still being served. Correct store, I don't recommend it to anyone.

All in all, our breakfast/brunch was great :)! Service is very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio wasn't that convincing for me. My salad cost around €13, the bread with omelette around €16. Still, it was tasty.

Very tasty food and good coffee! All in all, a warm atmosphere for meeting friends, learning and reading. I would recommend the café to everyone.

Pancakes were super tasty and also neatly portioned. In my opinion, the prices are slightly excessive. So if you want to treat yourself to something, you're well served here. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We will happily come back for special occasions. Unfortunately, the price is too high for a typical simple "just have breakfast".

Good poached eggs with liquid yolks, nice stuff, very beautiful interior. Something strange with matcha latte. Mine was too strong and bitter, but my friend's was not strong enough, just green milk.

The coffee is excellent, the cakes are very tasty and beautiful. I didn’t try anything else, but the neighboring tables had incredibly beautiful pancakes

Seems more two dimensional. Nice approach, beetroot polka dots are quite tasty.

The breakfast selection is very large and delicious. The way everything is arranged definitely makes a difference and the ambience and furnishings are also very nice. I can especially recommend the bread with burrata. Everything just fits here. For dessert we shared pancakes with Bueno Creme, but these are very intense and extremely sweet. Maybe a little less cream would be good so that your whole mouth doesn't stick together, but of course that's also a matter of taste. Otherwise really good food, good drinks and a nice ambience.

Great, efficient service and nice terrace next to the flowing water, I love it! A little too much chocolate on the pancakes if I have to be critical, but better too much than not enough hahaha Thank you I will come back

Very nice cafe with friendly service

We wanted to eat here with our children for lunch today. Unfortunately, there were obviously not enough employees assigned/available. After 20 minutes we had to leave without having accomplished anything since no one had come to our table by then (and no, that's not an exaggeration). Unfortunately, a serious assessment of the dishes themselves is not possible.

Waffles and coffee are first class. Very child-friendly and if something doesn't work out as hoped, you'll be taken care of until it's right, I appreciate that.

The food is original and beautifully presented... But: Burger rolls and boiled egg in a ramekin (not poached) for a hefty price and then typographical errors in the menu do not match the price quoted.

I haven't experienced such unfriendly service in a long time.

Was here with family for breakfast Sat outside under large umbrellas in great weather. It was beautiful There is a rich breakfast menu with many unusual dishes, from boals to pancakes, sweet or savory, to various sandwiches. Everything was very tasty and pleasing to the eye. Large selection of coffee, the coffee was also very good. Very friendly staff The price is a bit too much for my standards, but apparently normal for Freiburg. All in all recommended and full star rating 👍 All in all

Café was very nice, unfortunately the service was very unfriendly and the food was not tasty. We didn't like 3 out of 4 dishes, but they were very expensive :/

Extremely disappointed. We were there yesterday and sat at the table for almost half an hour without anyone coming to us. Then at some point we got the cards ourselves (every single one was smeared and dirty). After we ordered, we waited a total of 40 minutes for only 3 drinks even though there really wasn't much going on. There were 2 waitresses: a gentleman and a lady. The lady clearly had the feeling that she was about to fall asleep while walking and seemed extremely bored, even when ordering everything else and was polite. The best thing was when the drinks came, a third different drink simply came with the explanation that the one I ordered was no longer available. Well, sorry, but you would have to ask first what the guest would like instead of this drink, because then he might have decided on a second choice. Highly unprofessional and anything but gastronomic experience! The fact that the cocktails looked completely like a soda without any decoration (and that for over 7€!!!) and that there were no tubes at the ice cream café with the reason “they are all dirty” confirmed to us that this was unfortunately the first and therefore last visit was.

Stone cold poached eggs, which were almost hard boiled. Also stone cold hollandaise. Just sprinkled over it, could barely taste it. Also the extra portion I ordered was stone cold and very small. All in all disappointing food for a quite high price. But the place is beautiful, nicely located and the service was very fast, attentive and nice! 😊

The food was good, the service was very slow. We ordered a couple of dishes for brunch (bueno pancakes and benedict egg brioche) and a coffee and an orange juice in total. I found the drinks small. What I found the worst is that they do not have updated prices in the website, so we went thinking of a price and paid more.

Waited 30 minutes to order something 😅. Waiters walked past us several times. Have gone.

We came at 13:00 and they said that they are not serving food anymore however they are working until 18:00, what’s the point? Breakfast is served until 13:00 and at 13:01 they said that there is no food left, amazing servicr

Great all day breakfast menu. Decor very basic and natural looking. The service was very friendly . Coffee is good . Update - a year later - I come her regularly now . I just cant fault the place. Fresh food . Lovely service - same guy with a great smile and friendly way about him . Great coffee . Time and time again consistently great . Beautiful Terrace in the summer to sit outside .

It took a really long time for anyone to even come to the table. Getting the card then took longer until it was accepted. After another long time, a warm coffee with milk came and later this bread pudding. Far from bread pudding and still frozen inside! At such prices that's not possible! We're not coming anymore. Sorry

Super nice cafe! A bit noisy inside, but there is plenty of seating outside too. The food was very tasty, but the pancakes were a bit intense. Maybe a smaller portion is possible or less of the Bueno cream? In itself a cute café with a large selection of breakfast (all day). I think it's good every time I'm here ☺️

Quiet and hidden café in the heart of Freiburg. I have never eaten such a large vegan sandwich: absolutely inexpensive and totally delicious. Definitely worth a visit!

I always feel welcome at Café Marmell, not least because of the friendly service. I particularly like the Bueno Creme, which I enjoy without pancakes but with fruit. If you want something hearty, the Power of Burrata bread is my first choice. The café impresses with its quality and the warm treatment of the guests, which makes me want to come back again and again.

Unfortunately very overpriced. The salmon bread was nothing special and not necessarily tasty either. My chai latte was lukewarm. Service was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our order.

First of all: the service is impeccable. Friendly, the right questions at the right time and the desert came perfectly timed when we had finished breakfast. The Egg Benedict looked very industrial, was overcooked on the outside and there was still white goo on the inside. For a lower price at a sidewalk cafe, this would have been a perfectly acceptable egg. And the amount of salmon was really incomprehensibly stingy. Then please make it a euro more expensive, or two. I come here to eat something delicious, not to save money. But half-heartedly in between doesn't make any sense. The bowls are absolutely mis-marketed. These are desserts, more like sorbets than bowls. It's not possible to advertise this as a breakfast bowl. Especially not in the cold season. The Pancake Bueno that was recommended to us is also very tasty covered, but there is no filling between the layers. And apart from the minimal amount of crispies, they hardly have any texture. Definitely filling and too sweet to eat one portion alone. The coffees were okay. Nothing special. Also very “off the shelf”. The ambience is average. Simply nothing special at all, but nothing to complain about either. Just normal. In summer it is of course attractive to sit outside on the deckchairs! All in all: okay, but loveless. Nothing that justifies the prices - except for the service, the waitresses really tried hard.

We had breakfast here on Saturday and were able to get a seat. The service was very friendly and competent. The food was also very tasty. However, there was a small “but”. The bowl wasn't what we thought it would be. It was more of a dessert. The consistency was like a sorbet and it was “ice” cold. Certainly good as a dessert, but rather unsuitable as breakfast. At least that is our impression.

Service and variety are well balanced. The furnishings are harmoniously coordinated. Average age under 30.

Such a beautifully decorated café, plus very good-looking and delicious food. I recently had an avocado salad which I can only recommend!! What I can't recommend is the ham and cheese pancake, very dry and not as spicy as I imagined :/ The matcha isn't that great either, I would say, but maybe that's actually more a matter of taste. I can still recommend Café Marmell to everyone :)

Save your money, don't order the beetroot salad or you will be smashed with 1 Kilo of only and only beetroot on your plate!

Absolutely delicious breakfast. Very nice staff. It was completely full, so a bit noisy. Still, always happy.

Food was OK, cappuccino was good. Service, on the other hand, unfortunately nothing at all. A little too inattentive. We didn't receive a card for 15 minutes, so we checked our cell phone. Then we had to call for someone to come and take the order. We also had to call again to pay. Only then were the empty plates taken away. The service employee also only came to other guests when they called. This should definitely be improved. Attentive service is the be-all and end-all. However, it is not advisable to visit, just see for yourself. The rest was good and I didn't “regret” the visit, maybe they will improve the quality Service and then there is little to complain about.

We ate pancakes and farmer's bread with avocado crene, fried eggs... excellent. The coffee and the Macha Latte were also great. The staff was very friendly and we were served quickly. It was a perfect brunch, we'll be back. THANKS

We looked for a little café, and found this one, thinking it seemed to be very welcoming from the outside, the google reviews were good as well. Sadly they didn't represent our experience. The drinks were almost flavourless. The matcha was very bitter and not thoroughly mixed and the cheesecake was very clumpy and watery, therefore the price-performance ratio was just not justifiable. Apart from that, the service was friendly and our order was brought to us very quickly.

Sehr unfreundliches personal, die Kellnerin ist auf dem Fuß meiner Begleitung gestanden( ältere dame mit knie und starken hüpftproblemen ) und statt sich dafür zu entschuldigen, hat sie es so darstellen lassen, als ob meine begleitung sich unangemessen verhalten hätte, sodass sie sich entschuldigt hat und die kellnerin total unfreundlich, ihr nichtmal in die augen sehen konnte, obwohl meiner meinung nach sie sich für ihr kindisches Fehlverhalten entschuldigen sollte.

Very satisfied every time. The food tastes as it looks, and all of the dishes look very, very good. What impresses me the most, is that since they opened until now, they kept the quality, and i hope they will continue to do so. The atmosphere and the vibe is also very good, the bathrooms clean and unique. If you ever find yourself in Freiburg, visit that place and have a snack or a coffee. I recommend it without hesitation.

Das Essen ist lecker und das Ambiente und Personal sind nett. Allerdings sind die Preise völlig überzogen. Für ein schön hergerichtetes Frühstücksbrötchen mit ein wenig Lachs, Frischkäse und Ei 13€ zu verlangen ist nicht angemessen.

Toll gelegen, mit guter Speisenauswahl, nicht für jeden Geldbeutel geeignet, leider war mein Frühstückskaffee nur lauwarm, das rechtfertigt die hohen Preise in keinster Weise.

Geniales Frühstück bzw. Bruncherlebnis. Sehr lecker und alles ist frisch zubereitet! Wer eines von den Broten wählt, sollte Hunger mitbringen :), die Brote sind nämlich sehr gut belegt! Service sehr freundlich und schnell. Draußen kann man sehr schön sitzen. Es sind viele Sitzplätze vorhanden, dennoch würde ich am Wochenende eine Reservierung empfehlen. Da die Pancakes umwerfend aussehen aber nicht mehr reingepasst hätten, werden wir definitiv wieder kommen.

3,50€ für so einen Capuccino? Weisichnich, Digger. Bisschen viel Geld dafür, dass er nich schmeckt. (Milch schlecht aufgeschäumt und geschmacklich geht Richtung Reste zusammen gekippt und diese immer wieder aufgeschäumt.)

I’ve been there 3 times so far.. mainly for the pancakes.. they are really great. The location and atmosphere are also great. I had lunch once and the food was ok. However, the service needs improvement. Taking & serving orders can be faster!! drinks like cola can be served cold not warm!! and remaining food can be packed in a way that does not ruin it (see photo)!!

Heute habe ich einen kleinen Abstecher ins marmell gemacht. Nur einen Milchkaffee bestellt. Dieser schmeckt sehr gut, auch das Personal ist höflich und schnell. Einen Stern 🌟 Abzug gibt es für den Preis. Den finde ich ziemlich hoch für so einen kleinen Milchkaffee!

Top Service und nettes Team! Die pancakes sind sehr lecker! Verstehe die negativen Kommentare nicht, ich war schon häufig hier, man muss auch etwas Nachsicht mit dem Personal haben, ich wurde immer sehr nett bedient!

Leckeres Essen und schöne Atmosphäre. Allerdings sehr hohe Preise für vergleichsweise kleine Kaffees und Speisen.

Ich war nun bereits mehrmals im Marmell in Freiburg zum Frühstücken und zum Lunch. Der Service und das Essen sind eine 10/10! Das Personal ist super zuvorkommend und freundlich und auch die Qualität des Essens überzeugt mich bei jedem Besuch. Ich kann es nur empfehlen 😊✨🥞

Das Lokal ist hübsch und die Bedienung ist freundlich. Das Frühstück ist leider eine Totalkatastrophe. Wir hatten die Eier Benedikt mit Räucherlachs und die Rote Beete Creme mit Spiegelei auf Brioche bestellt. Unsere pochierten Eier wurden fast roh, transparent und glibberig serviert. Der Hauch an Räucherlachs ist gemessen am Preis unverhältnismäßig. Die Rote Beete Creme war ziemlich geschmacklos und das Briochebrot unspektakulär. Wir würde nicht wieder herkommen und es auch niemandem empfehlen. Aussehen ist eben nicht alles…

Ich war mit Freunden zum Brunchen da und von der Reservierung bis zur Bezahlung lief alles reibungslos ab. Obwohl es auf Instagram heißt, dass keine Reservierungen genommen werden, wurde wohl eine Ausnahme gemacht, da ich für den Geburtstag einer Freundin reservieren konnte. Der Service war super, sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen lässt nichts zu Wünschen übrig, es gibt auch vegane Möglichkeiten, und der Kaffee und die Chai Latte waren auch wirklich sehr lecker. Ich komme auf jeden Fall wieder!
