Small breakfast, big price. Admittedly, the bread was quite nice. It definitely needed more seasoning, though. What wasn't so nice were the prices. Almost €17 for a thick slice of farmhouse bread, scrambled eggs, some cream, and cream cheese... that's quite a lot, even if it was tasty. The service was very friendly and attentive. The location was simple but cozy. It would probably be great outside in good weather. It would actually be 4 stars. But I'm deducting 1 star for the price-performance ratio.

I had the Green Garden Omelette and was disappointed. The egg wasn't hot, the bread wasn't toasted, and there was very little avocado, tomatoes, and onions. It was generally lightly seasoned and tasted very bland. For over €16, I definitely expect more. I wouldn't recommend it. The cappuccino, on the other hand, was very tasty, albeit a bit small for the price.

Nice ambiance. Nicely presented food and friendly staff. Unfortunately, the spinach on our egg was raw, which is unusual. The scrambled eggs tasted like they came from a packet. The coffee was only lukewarm. However, it was rather expensive, and the portions weren't particularly large. Still, a cute café.

Nice student café with good matcha lattes, highly recommended and not overly sweet.

We went to breakfast with our two-year-old son and my husband because the photos looked very inviting. However, it was extremely busy, and we had to wait at least 40 minutes. We also had to remind them of our order two or three times because parts were missing. I will definitely never go back. Absolutely not recommended for families with children; it was a terrible experience for our son! The breakfast was also not recommended.

Actually a nice place, but the food was mediocre. The poached eggs were like they were made in a mold, making them hard on the outside and almost raw on the inside. On previous visits, the eggs were "properly" poached. So, for the price of €15, it wasn't worth it. Plates sat empty on the table for about 20 minutes and weren't cleared away, which shouldn't have happened.

Delicious food and friendly service

The atmosphere was very pleasant. The service was also good, but not exceptional. My partner had a warm drink, while I had a cold one. Of course, I understand that with ice cubes, you get less drink out of the same glass. However, seven ice cubes weren't necessary; I only had 2-3 sips before it was empty. It was very tasty, but I found it a bit harsh when the ice predominates in the drink.

Today we had breakfast at 11 and ordered eggs Benedict. Unfortunately, both dishes were cold and not very tasty. We suspected the eggs were frozen beforehand, and the bread wasn't even toasted. Everything was cold! The service was nice, but my girlfriend complained that the glasses were cheap because the coffee got cold way too quickly. The food came very quickly, though, but probably only because everything was frozen! Plus, you're afraid of getting crushed by chestnuts! It was still cool.

I had the Greek yogurt with fresh fruit. The portion for €13.90 was quite small, and the fresh fruit consisted of a few blueberries and five thin apple slices. Unfortunately, the value for money isn't right at all. What a shame.

Super nice atmosphere, great for sitting quietly outside.

Unfortunately, we waited over 40 minutes for breakfast (just the two of us), and it wasn't full yet. The food was so disappointing, I don't know if I've ever experienced anything like it before. The watery scrambled eggs had no flavor, the bread was soggy, and the seasoning was nonexistent. I can't explain the good reviews, or maybe we just picked the wrong day. The €16 is also overpriced.

Don't quite understand the hype around this place. Maybe it was a bad day for them, but my experience was quite underwhelming. Service was very slow, food took a long time to arrive, and to my surprise the American pancakes were way too doughy. Overall a disappointing experience, also overpriced for what you get.

The food was delicious, and the portions were generous for the price. There was a good selection of dishes for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

The café has plenty of cozy outdoor seating. We ordered various things like Spritz, coffee, and cheesecake, and everything was great. It's also suitable for larger groups.

Marmell is by far the most beautiful café in Freiburg! The staff are super friendly, always attentive to their customers and very transparent and helpful. They have a huge selection of dishes, and they have a fantastic iced matcha (also with coconut milk and mango/strawberry/raspberry puree). The Power of Burrata is highly recommended if you're craving something fresh, but the poached eggs and açai bowl are also delicious. If you're in the mood for salad, the beetroot salad is my favorite and definitely worth trying! You could sit for hours on the large outdoor terrace and enjoy the atmosphere, whether with a book or with a few friends. The design and layout are also highly praised; everything harmonizes and looks very aesthetically pleasing and harmonious. Every glass and every plate has that special something, especially the U-Cup is truly beautiful (and you can even buy most of them online at the Marmell Home Shop in a variety of sizes and colors for your own home 😍) Overall, simply the most beautiful place in Freiburg.

Breakfast was a bit disappointing. The scrambled eggs and poached eggs were obviously not freshly prepared, as was the avocado cream—and you can taste it. Additionally, no seasonings were used at all. So, if you value good food and aren't just coming for the ambiance, you'd better avoid this place.

The eggs are completely unseasoned. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper. The prices are too high for what you get. In other words, scrambled eggs from a box, far too little on the plate, and the main thing is that they look good. Coffee was very tasty but also too expensive. The atmosphere was very nice.

I go here for breakfast again and again because I love it so much. I think it's always worth it. It tastes absolutely delicious and is always a bit of an experience because everything is so beautifully presented. 🥰

It was my first time there. The staff was very friendly. I had an iced matcha latte with coconut milk and mango, along with poached eggs. The matcha was delicious. Breakfast was okay. I would have liked more hollandaise sauce; I couldn't taste it at all; I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I almost only tasted arugula. The eggs were good, but overall, the flavor was rather monotonous. It's a shame.

A very nice café. The service was friendly. We got our food quickly, even though it was busy. And it was delicious. The café was beautifully decorated inside; it was a bit noisy because you could only sit inside. Nevertheless, it was worth the visit.

Unfortunately, the food is extremely overpriced and mediocre (sometimes cold and often too little), so it's not really recommended.

A truly lovely, cozy café with very friendly service and a large selection of pasta. Unfortunately, my beetroot pasta with walnut and feta was a disappointment: barely any feta, barely any walnut, and unfortunately extremely dry. I wonder if the dish was even tasted before being served. It's a shame, because the ambiance deserved a harmonious culinary experience. I hope for improvement on my next visit.

We were there today around 12 for a drink and a bite to eat. Our first impression was very positive. But things quickly changed. We sat in front of the menu for a good 10 minutes before a server finally came over. It took 20 minutes for our coffee and almost 40 minutes for our food. With five people at the counter and serving, I really expected more. I had a bread with sweet potato cream and scrambled eggs. When the food arrived, both my egg and my companion's were lukewarm at best. The cream had almost no flavor, and the bread, although slightly toasted, was still mushy, and there were no signs of any seasonings either, which was very disappointing for €16. However, it looked great, and the texture of the scrambled eggs was also very good.

Unfortunately, the value for money isn't right at all. For €16, you get a slice of bread with avocado cream and egg. Everything looks great, but tastes bland, and the cream probably wasn't fresh either. Cappuccino comes in fancy cups, but unfortunately, it's cold. If you want to take photos, this is a great place, but the taste isn't great and it's expensive.

The best matcha in all of Freiburg! The quality is top-notch and the preparation is simply perfect. Unfortunately, the yogurt bowl wasn't my cup of tea, but I'll definitely be back for the matcha. The staff is always attentive, very polite, and courteous. You feel welcome.

Imagine this. Im hungover, sweating profusely, and in dire need of literally anything of substance to consume. So I go to this “cafe,” which is a strong word to use considering they can’t make one decent coffee or matcha to save their lives. Truly, I think if their life depended on putting more than two ice cubes in a drink, they’d instantly implode. Anyways, my drink was godawful, my food took about an hour to come out, and was ice. cold. My friend’s omelette was also frozen, and when she asked for a new one, they gave her one with smeared avocado (she’s allergic) from another table. Her pancakes were also terrible, but whatever. Also, they can’t control this but I swear to god it was raining bugs. Was probably a sign for god to leave this horrid place.

The food was a 0/10. Waited for over 45 mins for my omelette (with no avocado) to be ICE COLD, so I asked them to remake it and they did. Now you may be thinking “what’s wrong with that? They made a mistake and fixed it” WRONG! I got a new omelette about ten seconds later and it was lukewarm. They told me they brought it from another table. When I looked at it I saw they attempted to scrape the avocado off but it was still on the omelette. I am in fact allergic to avocado. I also Ordered an Iced matcha that was warm and tasted sour and somehow watered down at the same time…. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict which had clearly been sitting for a while. It was also ice cold and the eggs were extremely over cooked. I don’t know if they hated me or just thought I was plain stupid. Either way, terrible experience that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I’d rather spend my €30 to lick some dried paint. To say I’m pissed is an understatement.

Sorry, but I found the food very bad :( The omelet wasn't seasoned at all, and the "avocado cream" was just plain avocado... no seasoning, nothing. Avocado cream just needs a bit of salt, pepper, chili, lemon juice, and much more... which made everything taste bland 🥲 What a shame! There was salt and pepper on the table, but I didn't think that was enough! And if I have to start seasoning my dish myself, for which I paid (not a small amount of) money, then something is definitely wrong! The ambiance, service, and coffee were good, although you can't really go wrong with the latter anyway...🥴

Cafe Marmell is now one of my favorite places in Freiburg, great aura, beautiful and clean place, incredible staff and service. Drinks 100/10 and the food was delicious. I’m looking forward to go again, have a great dinner and chill 💛 The best ice coffee I ever had! And the chocolate cake was the perfect combo for my choco cravings, the girl that made the coffee knew exactly what I wanted and she is gorgeous. I also have to say that the music playing that day was excellent, amazing playlist❤️‍🔥

After waiting a good 15 minutes in the sparsely populated outdoor area on a Wednesday to order, we left empty-handed. Therefore, we can't comment on the quality of the food. However, the service was nonexistent.

Thé ambiance was bloody warm....we ordered 4 things ( Benedikt eggs, cucumber breqd, already ready cake and lastky café latte) Out of These 4 things the first Thing that came was the cake obviously and After 20 minutes we got thé coffee...but thé Benedikt eggs and cucumber bread went MIA we never got those 2 items.... We waited 1 hour, asked thé staff 4 times (all they said "es komm sofort") but guess what?! IT never came.... We are still wondering If they went poultry farm to get the eggs and cucumber.... Shitty expérience

Unfortunately, we had to wait over an hour for our breakfast – for four simple loaves of bread. That would have been bearable if the quality had been good, but unfortunately, the eggs arrived cold, and the brioche rolls weren't even toasted. For a dish you could make at home in just a few minutes, that's really disappointing. The food tasted okay, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is really cozy – that made the wait at least a little more bearable. At least they offered us drinks on the house, which we consider a nice gesture. But honestly – waiting that long for breakfast and then being served cold bread almost feels like you're in a social experiment. Maybe they were trying to see how long guests would stay before they started eating napkins? Who knows. In any case, if you just want a quick, warm breakfast, you're better off having a picnic at home – it's faster and less stressful.

The café is definitely recommended for aesthetic photos. The taste wasn't anything special. Unfortunately, we had to wait over half an hour for our food and drinks, although others who arrived much later were already served. There was no response to our inquiries, let alone an apology for the long wait. The staff were very rude and bored.

Two stars for the chai latte and the very friendly service. The food was unfortunately disappointing. The pancakes were burnt on one side but still doughy in the middle. The sweet potato bread was unfortunately tasteless and needed some seasoning, even if only salt and pepper. It's a real shame, as both dishes looked great.

Tasty breakfast in a cosy local atmosphere

The food was incredibly delicious. The price was right for the portion size! Unfortunately, we waited a very long time for our food and were completely ignored by the waiter.

My experience was unfortunately very disappointing. We ordered a dish with egg and sweet potatoes, which unfortunately was neither seasoned nor balanced in flavor—it was simply far too sweet. The chocolate pancakes were also disappointing: too sweet and undercooked on the inside. The prices are significantly too high for the quality of the food. The service was also inattentive—no one asked if everything was okay or if we enjoyed our meal. What was particularly annoying was that the food wasn't served at the same time: One person in our group received their food much earlier, while the other had to wait about ten minutes. This meant that we couldn't eat together—which would have been very important to us. When someone finally came over after some time and asked what was missing, it was already too late. There was also no way to really complain, as no one felt responsible. For all these reasons, I'm giving it only one star—and we definitely won't be coming back.

Meal 1: The pancakes were really bad, way too sweet and undercooked – most importantly, they keep getting smaller and the price keeps getting higher. Service: The waitress(es) forgot half of the food, and several waiters had to ask what was missing. We had to wait forever for our food. Furthermore, the communication wasn't friendly; there was no salt or pepper, and we were rudely dismissed at the end. Meal 2: We had a sweet potato custard sandwich, and it was truly tasteless. Where were the spices? It was also extremely overpriced for such a tiny meal. Conclusion: I can't recommend it, 1/10.

Very nice service, the dishes are beautifully prepared. However, my omelet had significantly too little flavor and I had to season it a lot. The location is very loud due to the high ceilings. The squeezed orange juice was very tasty :)

The location is incredible, the square is really beautiful and you can have a coffee outside in an extremely quiet street. It’s really super calming! 🚲☀️ Be careful, you need your phone to scan the menu, but you can sit quietly outside to order. I recommend!! 🍵🍰

Our breads with avocado, egg or salmon were really tasty, although a little more expensive (and €5.50 for 0.2 orange juice is also crazy!) Pancakes, as others say, a bit too sweet, consistency a bit sticky, but that is also very subjective. I would also order this just to share. The acai bowl itself was delicious, but somehow very liquidy. I was expecting something creamier. Cappu and chai with oat milk was very good! Would come again, but depend on the service. The first service person was very unfriendly and arrogant. Judging by the other reviews it seems to be the same person. As management, I would think carefully about who to hire. This person definitely doesn't belong in the restaurant industry. After more than 15 years of experience, I can easily differentiate whether someone is having a bad day or has no idea about service. In any case, we were happy when other service staff continued to serve us, who were very friendly and professional.

The food is always very tasty and the service is very nice. The coffee could be a little better, the flat white has always been a bit bitter.

We came at 4 p.m. and even though they are open until 5 p.m. Then an extremely unsympathetic waitress with long brown hair, who has often been extremely unsympathetic, said it was already the last round and we weren't getting anything more. Lol, a whole hour before the end and guests who arrived after us were still being served. Correct store, I don't recommend it to anyone.

Pancakes were super tasty and also neatly portioned. In my opinion, the prices are slightly excessive. So if you want to treat yourself to something, you're well served here. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We will happily come back for special occasions. Unfortunately, the price is too high for a typical simple "just have breakfast".

Good poached eggs with liquid yolks, nice stuff, very beautiful interior. Something strange with matcha latte. Mine was too strong and bitter, but my friend's was not strong enough, just green milk.

The breakfast selection is very large and delicious. The way everything is arranged definitely makes a difference and the ambience and furnishings are also very nice. I can especially recommend the bread with burrata. Everything just fits here. For dessert we shared pancakes with Bueno Creme, but these are very intense and extremely sweet. Maybe a little less cream would be good so that your whole mouth doesn't stick together, but of course that's also a matter of taste. Otherwise really good food, good drinks and a nice ambience.

Great, efficient service and nice terrace next to the flowing water, I love it! A little too much chocolate on the pancakes if I have to be critical, but better too much than not enough hahaha Thank you I will come back

Very nice cafe with friendly service

We wanted to eat here with our children for lunch today. Unfortunately, there were obviously not enough employees assigned/available. After 20 minutes we had to leave without having accomplished anything since no one had come to our table by then (and no, that's not an exaggeration). Unfortunately, a serious assessment of the dishes themselves is not possible.

Waffles and coffee are first class. Very child-friendly and if something doesn't work out as hoped, you'll be taken care of until it's right, I appreciate that.

The food is original and beautifully presented... But: Burger rolls and boiled egg in a ramekin (not poached) for a hefty price and then typographical errors in the menu do not match the price quoted.

Was here with family for breakfast Sat outside under large umbrellas in great weather. It was beautiful There is a rich breakfast menu with many unusual dishes, from boals to pancakes, sweet or savory, to various sandwiches. Everything was very tasty and pleasing to the eye. Large selection of coffee, the coffee was also very good. Very friendly staff The price is a bit too much for my standards, but apparently normal for Freiburg. All in all recommended and full star rating 👍 All in all
