Südklause in Hildesheim

Ich kenne die Südklause schon seit Jahrzehnten. Früher waren wir wegen der leckeren Hähnchen dort. Heute kommen mein Mann und ich gelegentlich für die Currywurst hierher. Uns schmeckt sie hier sehr gut. Die Schnitzel sind auch ganz gut. Zu machen Zeiten ist es sehr voll und die Bedienung ist ziemlich im Stress, aber trotzdem immer freundlich. Im Gastraum scheint die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein, denn es hat sich seit früher optisch kaum etwas verändert. Man kann im Sommer gut an den Tischen im Aussenbereich sitzen.

Waren auf Durchreise nach München und sind auf dieses nette Restaurant gestoßen! Essen war insgesamt sehr lecker und das Personal sehr freundlich! Also wenn wir wieder mal in den Norden fahren, dann werden wir mit Sicherheit dort wieder Rast machen und dann auf jeden Fall ein Hähnchen probieren! :)

Sensationell gutes Mexico-Hähnchen.

Die besten halben Hähnchen in Hildesheim und sehr gut gezapftes, kühles Bier. Ketchup/Majo ist zu teuer. Das Ambiente entspicht dem Stil vergangener Zeiten.

Sehr lecker wir hatten Jägerschnitzel mit Pommes sehr sehr lecker große Portion sehr nettes Personal preis-Leistung stimmt ,würde ich auf jedenfall weiter empfehlen

Der Taxiteller war famos! Ich habe mir schon seit mehreren Monaten vorgenommen, einen Taxiteller zu verspeisen. Als ich die Südklause entdeckte, hab ich sofort gemerkt, dass dies ein perfekter Ort für einen Taxi Teller wäre. Geschmack, Konsistenz und Präsentation waren alle genau so, wie man sich einen Taxi Teller wünschen möchte. Die Bedienung war freundlich und hat sofort die Wichtigkeit eines Taxi Tellers verstanden. Achtung: Taxi Teller Sonn- und Feiertag erst ab 14:00 Uhr.

Hähnchen lecker 😋 aber auch kleiner geworden.

Das beste Hähnchen aus Hildesheim, das halbe Hähnchen und die Nuggets sind so saftig nur zu empfehlen.

Richtig gute, bodenständige deutsche Küche. Große Portionen mit hervorragend zubereiteten Speisen, die so schmecken, wie sie sollen. Sehr freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Wir waren samstags um 17:30 Uhr zu zweit dort, ohne reserviert zu haben. Wir bekamen einen Platz. Es kamen aber schnell weitere Gäste. Wer also sichergehen will, sollte reservieren. Absolut empfehlenswert. Man bekommt viel für sein Geld und dazu noch sehr gute Qualität.

Samstag abend gut besucht dadurch geräuschpegel . Essen bürgerlich war gut. Nette bedienung. Alles ok

Wir machen regelmäßig unseren Stammtisch bei euch und sind jedes Mal sehr zufrieden. Marita ist ein echter Schatz und bedient mit ganz viel Herz!

Ein in die Jahre gekommenes Ambiente. Aber sehr sauber, herzliche Bewirtung und das Essen hat auch allen sehr geschmeckt.

Ich bin ein wenig enttäuscht vom Essen da es sehr trocken ist es fehlen überall die Saucen ansonsten ganz angenehm vom Flair

Urgemütliches Kneipen Restaurant

Das Lokal wirkt rustikal und eher kneipentypisch, insgesamt mehr wie ein Schnellrestaurant bzw. Imbiss. Laut Aussage soll das Essen hausgemacht sein, allerdings hatten wir den Eindruck, dass vieles fertig gekauft wird – mit Ausnahme von Kartoffeln und Spargel. Uns wurde erklärt, dass bei größeren Mengen z. B. Grießbrei aus Zeit- oder Organisationsgründen fertig verwendet wird. Ob das an Kostendruck oder fehlender Erfahrung liegt, können wir nicht beurteilen, hat aber leider den Gesamteindruck beeinflusst. Auch die Minestrone hat uns nicht überzeugt und schmeckte nach Fertigprodukt. Ich hatte Kartoffeln mit Spargel, Rotbarschfilet und Kräutersauce. Das Gericht war insgesamt okay, aber nicht besonders überzeugend: etwas zu salzig (außer der Spargel), die Kartoffelmenge war eher knapp und ebenfalls stark gesalzen. Der Salat wirkte überwiegend eingelegt bzw. fertig zubereitet und war geschmacklich nicht unser Fall. Beim Gang zur Toilette fiel mir auf, dass unter der Treppe mehrere Ölkanister standen (u. a. Rapsöl mit Palmöl und dem Zusatzstoff E330), was mich etwas irritiert hat. Der Service war freundlich, allerdings gab es ein kleines Missverständnis bezüglich Suppe und Grießbrei. Letztlich wollte aus unserer Runde niemand davon essen, da wir selbstgemachte Varianten gewohnt sind und den Unterschied deutlich schmecken – auch im Vergleich zu bekannten Fertigprodukten. Wer Wert auf frisch gekochtes bzw. hausgemachtes Essen legt, ist unserer Meinung nach bei Am Campus oder Paxino besser aufgehoben, um den Tag entspannt zu genießen.

Längst kein Geheimtipp mehr für leckere Hähnchen in Hildesheim. Dürfte schwer sein, bessere zu finden. Wer es etwas pikanter mag, bestellt die Mexiko-Variante. Und natürlich gehören Pommes und ein lecker Pils dazu! Die urige Location ist inklusive 😉. Vorab unbedingt reservieren, vor allem am Wochenende.

Auf Empfehlung her gekommen und es nicht bereut. Ich habe noch nie so ein top Hähnchen gegessen! Außen knusprig,innen saftig. Dazu die Pommes sind ebenfalls top. Die Mexiko Soße ist für jeden der es gerne scharf mag. Super liebe Bedienung und es ist Barzahlung sowie Kartenzahlung möglich. Ambiente ist urig und einfach stimmig zu allem. Preis/Leistung top! Komme sehr gerne wieder !

Super nette Bedienung und schnelle Abarbeitung

Wenn ich mal in die Südklause gehe, esse ich hier entweder eine Currywurst oder ein halbes Mexiko Hähnchen, ohne Salat. Beides ist sehr gut. Die Bedienung ist okay. Aber das Ambiente ist mir viel zu dunkel und gefällt mir leider nicht so gut. Früher war ich öfter hier. Im Sommer kann man auch draußen sitzen. Alleine traue ich mich abends jedoch nicht hierher, da es doch ziemlich dunkel ist.

I sat there for 10 minutes and didn't even get my menu... Sorry, I left. So, unfortunately, I can't give any stars to the food or service, because neither was there.

We visited again on our way back from northern Germany to Lorraine, France. On July 25, 2025, we were at the restaurant around noon on a Friday. We had three Mexican chickens. I have no idea how they do it so well, but it's among Germany's best grilled poultry. It has a rustic atmosphere, friendly service, and good prices.

We were looking forward to two Wiener schnitzels and a chicken schnitzel with fries. Everything was very dry and by far the worst chicken schnitzel I've ever eaten. Furthermore, the lady on the phone seemed to be in a bad mood.

We planned to eat here as vacationers because of the appealing menu. We sat comfortably on the terrace and enjoyed the attentive service. There is a wide selection of dishes, and each of our meals was delicious and beautifully presented. Overall, we were very satisfied with the service. The portions are decently large for a reasonable price. We can recommend the Mexican chicken, Pusta skewer, chicken wings, and meatloaf.

The chicken is absolutely top-notch. But the fries are the worst in Hildesheim. They're greasy and therefore not crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I suspect they're not cooked at 160 degrees Celsius, as is generally recommended by restaurateurs, even the best in the business.

Always a great place in every respect, service, food, everything is just right, price-performance ratio is also great, we celebrated my parents' ruby wedding anniversary there, it was amazing as always in the hut, for me it is the best German food in Hildesheim and you can always have a lot of fun with the I call them family (the service), they are all great people, 6 out of 5 stars because they are great people ❤️

We ordered four half chickens to take away by phone; we were told to come pick them up in 20 minutes. When we got there, nothing was ready; it took another 20 minutes! The last time we visited, the chicken was raw inside. The manager's rude response: "It's not raw; it's from the paprika." 😂 No comparison to the Südklause from 20 years ago! Unfriendly service, a loooong wait, and terrible food! 8.40 for half a chicken... you'd add €4 and get fries and a delicious salad at Wienerwald! They had their chance!!🫠

I know it's supposed to be good here. But unfortunately, I didn't get to experience it for myself today. The server ignored me, and after waiting 20 minutes, I moved on and got a pizza around the corner. I hope I have better luck next time.

A great place, fast service and friendly

I always enjoy going to Südklause! The Mexican chicken is a real favorite – double-coated with paprika, nice and crispy, and delicious! The service is friendly and attentive, and you immediately feel at home. The seasonal dishes are also impressive: tender asparagus in spring, wonderfully hearty goose or duck dishes in winter – all freshly prepared and delicious. For me, one of the best addresses in Hildesheim!

Good German cuisine and a lovely, rustic ambience.

The half chicken was good. The fries were barely longer than 3 cm and were fried for too long and not salted. The same goes for the “roasted potatoes”.

Somehow old-fashioned but overall original and therefore always popular. The service lady was on point! It's very rare now. The food was delicious. Overall recommended.

Half a rooster is recommended. Tasty, crispy skin, meat separates easily from the bone. Lots of meat. But the menu promises more delicious things. Will definitely eat there again soon.

The ladies in service were very quick and friendly, but I found the food quite tasteless. Ambiance, well...everyone who goes there probably knows that it's 80s style (as does the menu). It had nothing to do with a nice, relaxed meal and more to do with mass processing. We had everything within 10 minutes.

The Südklause beer garden / café garden is local, but unfortunately no vegan dishes apart from fries and salad and so for me, as a vegan, it is only an option in times of extreme hunger. (As of March 19, 2025)

I visited the Südklause with a good friend, where I worked over 20 years ago. Everything still looks exactly the same as it did back then, but it still makes a clean and well-kept impression. The Mexican chicken with fries was super tasty and the gyros plate also looked very good. Of course the prices are no longer what they used to be, but they are really okay for today's times. The service was friendly and attentive. I'm already looking forward to the next time.

First of all, I can only rate the restaurant to a limited extent. This has been THE place to go for a good half chicken for decades. Probably the best chicken of its kind in Hildesheim. I've never eaten anything else there and Mexican chicken has made me happy for over 20 years (maybe it's been 30 years). The seasoning and homemade sauce tastes just as you remember. The chicken has more meat again compared to the last time. Could be a coincidence, but still delicious. The service was friendly and not intrusive. Worth every cent of the tip. Unfortunately, the ambience is just as it once was. It's time for the heirs to slowly change things. Personally, it would be enough for me to finally separate this smoking area so that non-smokers and children don't notice. Unfortunately the room is still in the dining area, separated by a door that blows everything into the non-smoking area when you leave. The rest of the equipment is very rustic, but comfortable and fits the offering. I will continue to stop by on an occasional basis and enjoy the chicken on site or to take away. Thank you heirs!

Zero work ethic, just run the place to the wall... The waitress interrupts you, imperious and doesn't listen. Fries apparently fried again after frying, burnt.,, We've noticed this the last few times and even though I address it, NO INSIGHT, no accommodating or doing it again. Counted BRoT, a piece of bread although I often “asked for plenty of bread” We still had to pay the full price, even though I mentioned it, We hardly ate and I was also very annoyed. You just can't do things as simple as fries anymore, the main thing is to raise prices every year. NEVER AGAIN Food: Zero point zero Service: I recommend early retirement or a position in the Navy

The Mexico chicken was super tasty and came relatively quickly

The food didn't taste good. The fat just drips out of the schnitzel and fries. The Pusta sauce was definitely not freshly prepared, but rather a finished product. Service was totally annoyed and unfriendly. Some of the salads were from jars and not fresh.

When I'm in HI and have time I like to get food there.

We were back in the Südklause after a long time with friends from Bremen who were really in the mood for a delicious, crispy chicken. We would have liked to sit outside but the service was so “friendly” that it was clear and clear to us that it was the beer garden closed! If you want to eat half a chicken, there is hardly a better place in Hildesheim than Südklause. The other home-style dishes also taste good to me. I classify the atmosphere as quaint. The service is good and the prices are reasonable. You can also take the prepared poultry home with you.

Absolute disaster, disgusting fries fried in old fat, chicken liver from the deep fryer, fart dry and only tasted like old fat, chicken sauce salty and watery. If you don't want to eat unhealthy food again, you've come to the right place!

I was in the Südklause as a small child on my father's lap. That was over 30 years ago now! It's always a feeling of a happy childhood when fragrant chicken, fries with a big hit of mayo and salad come to the table. I hardly know of anything that has remained so unmistakably good over decades!!!! Even though we now live in Düsseldorf, a visit to the Südklause is a must when we are in our old homeland! And if someone doesn't know her and is just visiting Hildesheim: visit this rustic location! Great food, lovely service, fair prices!!

Food was good. The restaurant was getting old, but was well attended.

Actually a location as we know it from before. Reminds me of real morning pints from back then. Meet nice people and strike up a conversation. Comfort is given, The dishes looked very good and were reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and quick. Parking lots available . Recommended.

I can only speak about the chicken, but we often go to the Südklause. The ladies who serve there have been here for a long time and are always super nice.

The food is still really GERMAN, you can tell that there is someone at the stove who knows their craft., really tasty. The service was great, friendly and well-disposed and fast. I can recommend this restaurant.

We were there yesterday based on a recommendation. No menu outside. Then we took one from the dirty table. The staff were all standing outside the door smoking. Tables dirty, old, sometimes very unpleasant to look at. Placemats or the good old lacquered tablecloth could have made a big difference here. Since we were out all day and my son was really hungry and we don't know our way around Hi, we ordered anyway. My son had Jägerschnitzel fries and I had Pusztaspieße and 🍟. Plus salad. It didn't look so nice anymore and the dressing looked and tasted like it came from a bottle. Jägerschnitzel was so lame. The 🍟 tasted like old chip fat and the sauce was a disaster. When the waitress took the order, I had to look at the numbers again. She snatched the card out of my hands. I jumped up and said "ouch" because it was snatched away from me very roughly. The lady apologized if she hadn't seen her. I had the card in both hands. Impossible. The lady where we sat at the table later told us that you couldn't eat anything other than the famous chicken there. Sad. I've never had food like this before. I've also never experienced such unfriendly staff before, once, and I've never experienced such dirty and uncomfortable anywhere. 6, put, my old class teacher would have said in the past. Once and never again. The Italian restaurant around the corner was full. Let's test next time. It couldn't be worse 😞
