Sternbäck in Würzburg

We were only there for a drink, but the atmosphere and service are great and the dishes we saw at the other tables looked amazing; if we are ever in Würzburg again, we will definitely eat here.

After many years of going to Sternbäck, they stood us up today. Their website says they open at 10 a.m. Yesterday on the phone they said we could come at 10:30 a.m., and today at the door they said they don't open until 11 a.m.

This Franconian inn in the heart of Würzburg is well worth a visit. As soon as you enter the dining room, you feel comfortable. The food and beer are very good. Highly recommended.

This is a great place to stop by again and again. The staff is always friendly. The food is always delicious.

We stopped in by chance. If you're looking for a rustic atmosphere with friendly guests and helpful service, this is the place for you. We only stopped in for tea, but the food for the other people looked very appealing. The beer and wine are definitely delicious. We'd love to come back again to try the food.

Good food close to the center of the Aldstadt

As a Brandenburger, I wouldn't have expected such a quaint pub in Würzburg. It's the kind of traditional pub that we've sadly lost in Berlin and Brandenburg due to years of pub closures, and now miss. Here at Sternbäck, the decor, indeed the entire atmosphere, is pleasantly rustic. A bit like back then, so familiar, and therefore also a bit like "home"... The food—we had a charcuterie board and shovels—was hearty and very good, also pleasing to the eye. It was accompanied by very good cellar beer. Everything just worked out. Highly recommended...

A very nice restaurant with good Franconian cuisine and friendly service right in the center of Würzburg. The Blaue Zipfel (blue sausage) and the bratwurst were delicious.

The service at Sternbäck was good and friendly. The portion sizes were reasonable for the price. The food tasted okay — nothing special, but not bad either. Overall, a decent place for a casual meal in Würzburg.

Food isn't what it used to be and the toilets don't work at all...

We were there with a group of 16 people and were given a private room on the upper floor. The room had a lot of flair; we always enjoy going there because it's so quaint. The service was also very friendly!

Unfriendly and a long wait when you want to pay, even though you've already been asked four times! We went back in to pay after an hour and had to wait again.

As much a part of WÜ as the cathedral. A must for a well-kept Distelhäuser draft beer. Great menu, excellent service. Always happy to come back. Once you sit down, you'll come back.

A German beer hall that has preserved its character on Würzburg's busiest street. The atmosphere is very colorful and pleasant. The service is good. We also enjoyed the food. The beers were very good. I had the chicken, my wife had the sausage, and my son had the schnitzel. We all enjoyed what we ate. The portions were also large enough.

It took more than 45 minutes for us to get something to eat. Cheese noodles and baked potatoes aren't really complicated. One (!) serving food in the large outdoor area isn't working.

Our server was mostly preoccupied with her phone, which limited her attention. Orders were taken via phone, but not continuously.

The white sausages were spoiled and inedible. No, never again.

Unfortunately, it's not what it used to be. We got half-warm food. My spaetzle in "spicy sauce" with chanterelle mushrooms consisted of three frozen chanterelle mushrooms, the "spicy sauce" of cream (that's it) and unseasoned spaetzle. My wife's cheese spaetzle were also primarily greasy (probably a pile of butter) and otherwise just cold and simply inedible. The side salad was a mixed salad and had no salad dressing. At the bottom of the bowl was some potato salad that tasted like something from the Aldi refrigerated section: horrible, preservatives of the food. It's terrible what's happened to many restaurants after the coronavirus pandemic. We assume there was simply no cook on duty and our food was just "warmed up." Given these facts, the prices are sheer outrage. Both dishes, including a drink, cost a whopping €50. Sternbäck, that used to be something. Unfortunately, it's now unvisitable. We're very disappointed.

You sit outside by a fountain in the middle of the pedestrian zone. The food was okay. The service was very friendly.

Nice to sit outside and lots to see

Unbelievable: You're sitting in a beer garden waiting for service. You wait and wait and wait. It's not like there weren't any, but two girls were just standing there chatting. We spontaneously moved into view, but after another five minutes at a wobbly table, we left. Why is that? Are they tired of serving customers? Is that only possible in family businesses? And one more thing: Diestelhausen is spelled with an "i," so Distelhausen.

I enjoy visiting Sternbäck for a few beers, and I find/found the food selection to be quite good. However, I notice that some of the food preparation has changed, becoming more run-of-the-mill. For example, the cordon bleu. Previously, it was always fried in a pan (extra cheese included upon request), but now it's a ready-made meal from the deep fryer. Profit maximization? ... or no longer a trained chef in the kitchen?? ........ What a shame.

Great beer, great views, and tasty food. It's a shame the waitresses offer such poor service; it's as if their soul and friendliness have been stolen. They throw plates at your table as if they want to break them and hate the universe. Anyway, great place, shame about the staff.

Very tasty 🤤! But the service is slow!

The food was okay, the service rather inattentive, and the children's meal also came with the wrong sauce. No changing facilities, only one high chair. All in all, it doesn't live up to the high price point. It's just a good location.

We had a wonderful meal on the terrace in the heart of Würzburg. The service was excellent, attentive, and humorous.

The food was awful, don't bother with it. Schnitzel pan with spaetzle from a package, fried hard, and smothered in cheese. The only fresh thing was a bit of chives. My roast suckling pig was lukewarm, and the bread dumplings were again from a package. So save your money! The service staff was very friendly. But if it doesn't taste good, even the friendly service won't make up for it. A nice place for guests who enjoy people-watching.

We were very lucky to get a table outside. It was very busy, but the service was excellent and efficient. We ordered Schäufele (pork shoulder), Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), and spicy currywurst. The Schäufele was quite small, but the flavor was good. The dumplings were rather dry, and the sauerkraut was good. The spaetzle were seasoned with a lot of nutmeg, which was the dominant flavor. The spicy currywurst had a lot of chili pieces in the sauce; it was quite hot. This was also mentioned afterward. "Spicy" doesn't necessarily mean hot. The server said she would pass on the information. The service was really excellent; the staff were working flat out. We would gladly come back and try the food again.

Great restaurant right in the center of Würzburg. Domstraße is right next door, and you can sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle. The schnitzel is great.

One of the best culinary experiences I had so far in Wü. A bit expensive but completely worth it.

The potato salad was the most boring I've ever eaten. The sausages were similar.

The schnitzel was flavorful and the curry boost sauce was delicious. It's a German restaurant crowded with locals. The Helles beer is a bit bland, but it's wine in Würzburg. The staff are so busy, so a little patience is needed. 🤣

A lovely little restaurant with a great atmosphere inside. Plenty of outdoor seating, good value for money, and friendly staff. A traditional Bavarian white sausage breakfast is available from 10:00 AM. Centrally located, not far from the old Main Bridge.

The waitress, a blonde woman, was arrogant and thought she was the boss. I know it's hard to find staff, but she should be fired immediately for the good of the place, which is otherwise quite good. First, we were served from behind, and the plates were simply thrust into our hands. If I want to be rushed through my meal, I'll go to McDonald's. She asked us to leave because we didn't like one of the dishes. She interrupted us several times and then acted surprised when we responded with a bit more slur and got angry. And to top it all off, she then ran over to the next table to complain loudly to a "colleague" about us. We were there back in 2024, the food was good, but the same waitress was quite unfriendly then too. We chalked it up to her being on a bad day, but we were clearly wrong...!!!!!!!

After my first visit last week, Sternbäck has become my favorite pub in Würzburg. Besides the charming service, they offer a selection of regional cuisine and numerous beers on tap. I'm particularly fond of the Distelbacher wheat beer. When the weather is nice, it gets quite crowded outside. I've been lucky so far and managed to snag a table with a friend. After 11 p.m., when the city of Würzburg seems to roll up its sidewalks, the fun continues inside the pub. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

The food was delicious, especially the baked potato, although you can't really go wrong with that one :) The service was very friendly, and the wait for the order to be taken and the food to arrive was very short. I highly recommend it!

We waited 30 minutes for a waiter to serve us. No one came, even though there were enough staff. So we left.

A restaurant in the center of Würzburg. It offers traditional cuisine, perfect for a quick stop or a full lunch. Fast service. Friendly and helpful staff: one of us is celiac, and the waiter helped us choose gluten-free dishes. Excellent value for money.

Incredibly delicious food! I had the "sternipfännchen" (a type of pan-fried dish). A delicious schnitzel with tasty Spätzle and a very tasty creamy mushroom sauce. The service was also very well-trained, they knew all the dishes, and were friendly, just like you'd expect from a brewery restaurant. The atmosphere is great; spread over two floors with several rooms, each decorated a little differently, you feel right at home in a rustic setting!

Great middle-class restaurant/pub. No matter whether you want to eat delicious food or just drink one or two unfiltered cellar beers on tap at the bar - Sternbeck is very, very cozy and delicious!!! Cozy....especially the Loriot sofa on the upper floor😁 Vegetarian and vegan dishes need to be introduced a little more.

A highlight in Würzburg, such a cool place. Cozy, loud, original, and lots of beers on tap. We had tarte flambée, currywurst and grilled sausages, which were very good. We were too late for the warm chocolate cake, bad luck. Very nice and funny waiter, great prices. For us the best atmosphere in Würzburg!

Very nice stay, friendly service

We've been coming here on Shrove Tuesday for years - but on March 4th, 2025 it was atmospheric - and... Music technically a nightmare! - very poor for a carnival event. The restaurant is no longer full at 9:30 p.m. as it used to be! A real mood brake - unfortunately.

Very great, middle-class and rustic inn. Good and fast service. Food of the size and quality you would expect from a pub. Thumbs up for our recommendation.

We were recommended Sternbäck by friends and were there for the first time. Everything was good: service, location and food. I would go there again, but there is still a little potential for a 5 star rating. Keep it up and maybe see you again soon…✌🏼

Nice pub in town. We were there for lunch and had drinks and a semolina dumpling soup. The red wine was okay but nothing special, the beer was well tempered and tasty, the soup was decent. The service was nice and very quick.

Celebrated New Year's Eve in this restaurant. It was very comfortable and we spent a few hours enjoying great food and entertainment. Big compliments to Lutz, who served us that evening. We are happy to recommend this restaurant.

Classic, small, rustic “corner pub” with traditional Franconian cuisine. The food is stable, but what ultimately convinced us was the excellent service, which was absolutely attentive and friendly even in a stressful, full hut! It's a bit of a shame that we sat right in front of the front door and it was a bit drafty.

The atmosphere is very friendly and the service very fast. I love the interwar setting ❤️
