Terrible experience. I will never visit this place again. The staff wasn't just rude. We weren't greeted upon entering, no one offered us help choosing a table, and when I asked if we could have a table by the window, I was rudely snapped at. Despite this, we decided to stay because we were very hungry. The food wasn't particularly good either. We ordered a pork knuckle with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, as well as a Cologne-style mixed grill. The mashed potatoes and sauerkraut were tasty, but the knuckle was far too dry—as was the steak from the mixed grill. Overall, a very unpleasant experience, so I cannot recommend this restaurant. Especially not if you—like me—want to try something authentically German for the first time. This restaurant ruined my date and my first impression of German pubs.

The welcome here was so relaxed and wonderful, everything was absolutely fantastic, I would come back anytime.

I made a reservation through OpenTable and received confirmation! But when we arrived, we were told they don't accept reservations through OpenTable and we could only sit in the highchair area! And after 15 minutes, they simply canceled our reservation! Unbelievable!

We visited Cologne. Great location, fantastic atmosphere, excellent service, highly recommended.

Unfortunately, apart from the service, it was a disappointment. The schnitzel tasted like something from a fast-food joint, the fried potatoes were dry, the cheese spaetzle practically had no cheese, and the atmosphere was uninviting. It won't get any better just because you want to have the Google review deleted.

The waitress we had was extremely disrespectful and hostile. The small woman with the black hair should consider never working in customer service again. They ignored us at the bar and at the table service. We asked for what beer they had and she almost had a stroke when we asked for a beer on the menu that was out of stock but it seemed according to her we should have known this. In an ironic turn the table next to us just got served (by her) the beer we were told was out of stock. For your own sake please avoid this place unless you like to be disrespected, then it is the perfect place.

We've been in Cologne regularly for work for 25 years and always enjoy returning here. Solid German cuisine in a beautiful old building. In summer, you can also sit outside with a wonderful view of the Rhine, which is just a few meters away.

We had our women's regular get-together and I can highly recommend the brewery; delicious food, good service, reasonable prices, and a great view of the Rhine.

Perfect: 6 beers and 2 schnitzels for 54 euros. Super tasty and not expensive. Delicious food, and it's a cozy, busy restaurant. Perfect!

I can't understand the negative reviews. It's touristy and outdated. When asked, the owner said: "It feels unwelcoming. It was also empty when we were there. The lighting, seating, and overall concept definitely need to be rethought so you can continue to exist. But that's just my opinion."

With a view of the water, the ambiance is fantastic. The service was incredibly friendly and efficient. It was surprising that it wasn't very busy that day, considering the food is simply superb. The portions were plentiful, delicious, and beautifully presented. The price is perfectly reasonable, especially given the setting. From the online reservation to the visit itself, everything was excellent and highly recommended.

We've eaten at this brewery several times. This time, we were served by a very attentive and friendly waiter. I had "Himmel und Ääd" (Heaven and the Earth), with delicious mashed potatoes with excellent fried onions, fine black pudding, and apple compote. The veal schnitzels on my wife's plate (there were two "because they weren't that big") were tender and very well cooked. They were served with fine French fries and salad. Simply delicious. The ambiance is like that of a brewery. We'd love to come back!

I was in Cologne for a weekend and went to this restaurant on Friday afternoon. It was a very nice place. The food was very good, and the Kölsch, of course, was too. The service was also impeccable. I found the prices to be reasonable. I liked it so much that I went back on Saturday. The service was excellent there too.

We used to really enjoy this restaurant, but never again. We wanted to go to the sun terrace. The waiter was annoyed. The menu was simply thrown on the table. If you don't feel like it, just don't go.

Delicious food, great service. We'll be back again and again.

Yesterday, I ate at Stappelhaus with my teenagers and aunt, and it was delicious, as always. Whether it was the typical Kölsch (heaven in the earth) or the teenage staple, veal schnitzel, or vegetarian food, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and the portions were excellent! To top it all off, there were delicious chocolate cakes with a soft chocolate center and a Stappelhaus praline 😋. Both were also delicious!! The service was excellent, quick, and very friendly. The Kölsch, the Coke, and other drinks were cold, and the coffee/latte machiato was hot and delicious. If you're eating inside, take a close look around and don't forget to look under the ceiling! So, head over there!

Extremely unfriendly service. We were there as a group of girls for a pre-event event to eat and drink! Never again; I've never experienced such disrespectful service from a waitress. The wait for drinks was incredibly long (about 30-40 minutes), even though the place was almost empty.

We only wanted to cancel it because of the terrible service – we didn’t feel welcome at all. This was by far the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant. It's a shame. We stopped in spontaneously. It's nice outside by the Rhine, if you ignore the small groups on the lawn, enveloping you in a cannabis haze. But the only waitress on the terrace couldn't live up to the standard. We waited an hour for our order, asked, and lo and behold, she couldn't remember our food order. We were there with about 20 people for a company event. The interior of the restaurant was mostly empty; due to our reservation, we were seated by the window and served promptly. First of all, it should be said that Stapelhaus and its service staff really scored points here, as both drinks and food were served promptly and mostly in one sitting; no one went hungry or thirsty. We were served by two different ladies over the course of the evening, with the slightly older lady in particular standing out rather negatively due to her "brash" manner. Ultimately, though, she did her job, and did it well. The younger lady who served us next seemed more open and welcoming, which increased my rating to four stars in favor of the service ;). The menu seemed extensive and authentic; you really felt like trying typical Cologne specialties. The majority of guests at the table ultimately opted for the 300g steak with side dishes. For €30 per portion (including the most expensive dish on the menu), I expected considerably more. The quality varied considerably; at least my steak was cooked to a "shoe sole" and far from medium. I didn't complain, though, so I can't judge to what extent the restaurant might have offered to make amends. Unfortunately, this quality also applied to the portions of other guests, who were at least not particularly impressed with their steaks. Otherwise, the prepared dishes (and, of course, the beer) were a hit and well received. Would I return here again? Hard to say, I'd probably just try a different main course! ;)

I can't recommend it: We arrived there full of hope, but the entire dining room was completely empty. When we asked if we could sit near the window, we were told everything was reserved. A blatant lie, no one else came, see the video... The pasta arrived promptly, but the place was empty, too. Oil-soaked, with even oilier tomatoes, far from any flavor. If you like that kind of thing, this is the place for you! Service was okay, but it was empty, after all.

I reserved a table with the OpenTable App, for New Year’s Eve at 10:30 pm. Upon my arrival I have been told that their kitchen is closed moreover my reservation was not even written down(not as if they could not see it in their system or something, not to forget that i get a verification email for my reservation), also the staff is really unfriendly, I'd really won't to give 0 stars if it was possible. Honestly take my advice to not go that that horrible place, even less because of those 5 stars review, telling you it’s so good and stuff, there are so much better places to eat. I made a reservation via the OpenTable app for New Year's Eve at 10:30 p.m. I arrive and I am told firstly that the kitchen is closed then we cannot find the name of my reservation (they could have at least checked their reservation system, moreover that I showed them the confirmation email which in addition is confirmed in the app), because it wasn't even rated and again, the people who work there are not at all friendly, so for me it's not even a star, if I could I would give them 0, so there you go don't go, even every other restaurant has more skills!

Friendly waiter. Another real German eatery with local cuisine. And more than enough meat on your plate.

We were a fairly large group and had made reservations online in advance. We were told on site that there was a double booking, thanks to the additional reservation service, which made it not so easy to get a table. We ended up sitting at two tables, which was suboptimal. I don't understand why they offer such a service if it causes complications. The food was okay but almost all of it was too cold. We would like to give the Stapelhaus another chance as things are generally stressful in the run-up to Christmas. Service and ambience fit wonderfully into a brewery.

We were 2 couples and a toddler. It was woe and of course crowded. We got a place. The drinks came quite quickly. However, when ordering, the service was very unfriendly and you even got a very cheeky comment when he almost poured the beer on the child and I pointed it out before it was too late. The food e.g. dumplings, red cabbage meat was ok. Others ate meat dishes and weren't really impressed - so there's some room for improvement. You have to like the facility. There were cobwebs on the radiators and it was blowing through the windows, so it was quite cold while eating. All in all you can eat here, but since there are too many restaurants of this type in Cologne, we certainly won't come back again. We think that's a shame.
