First of all, the menu also offers a bockwurst with potato salad as a plate dish at a reasonable price. Something like that has become rare in the restaurant industry these days. The herring fillets, home-style, were tender and flavorful, and the fried potatoes were excellent. The service was quick and friendly, and obviously relaxed, given the large number of guests.

Super cozy, transported back to old times, we felt very comfortable.

The farmer's breakfast was excellent, the owner is absolutely customer-oriented, and the location is unbelievably good. The only problem is the €3 one-hour parking rip-off. Just keep looking, you can find free parking. But that's not the restaurant's fault.

A very rustic ambiance – you have to like it: I liked it, after all, the SPIEKER is set in a museum setting. We didn't have a reservation – and we were lucky: We got a large table with guests already seated there, which proved very entertaining over the course of the evening. Otherwise, it's apparently always quite busy here. The food on offer is rustic, in keeping with the ambiance, and of course, includes the famous Smoort-All and Ammerländer Löffeltrunk (a kind of sauerkraut). Despite all the rusticity, vegetarians are also catered for: For example, the farmer's breakfast is also available without bacon in the fried potatoes, and the ham that is usually served is omitted. Oh yes: they also serve good beer ;-)

The building and the location are beautiful. We were initially assigned a table for four right by the counter, where my husband couldn't sit because of the table's base. We then moved to the table by the stairs. Since it was our first time there, we weren't sure how busy the stairs would be. Every time a member of staff didn't come down the stairs—because, strangely enough, only people with mobility issues came from upstairs—I was afraid someone would stab me in the back. My Bismark Hausfrauart (homemade) was okay and reasonable for the price, but the quantity of food on the skewer plate didn't match the price. The drink prices were okay.

We came here for dinner with a larger group. The waiter was very friendly and personable, always ready with a joke. We enjoyed all the dishes and they were extremely filling. The fried potatoes and the eel were delicious and absolutely delicious.

We stayed at the Spieker Ammerländer Bauernhaus and felt very comfortable. The service was extremely friendly and cheerful, and the drinks arrived quickly and courteously. We had to wait a bit for the food, but it was worth it – it was delicious. Overall, a lovely visit that I would happily recommend.

For us, the Spieker is the best restaurant in Bad Zwischenahn. Everything is just right here. Great atmosphere, beautiful beer garden, friendly and prompt service, and delicious food, especially the Spieker special. You won't find anything like it anywhere else in the Ammerland region. A must-visit when we're here.

Not really, although the food was delicious. The atmosphere among the staff seemed tense, and as a result, I felt like I wasn't really welcome. No one asked if I enjoyed my meal or if I had any other requests, or...it wasn't fun. It was my wife's birthday dinner, and I had requested a nicely decorated table via email a few days before. What happened? Nothing. The spit was gone for me.

We had lunch outside on a mild, warm summer day. Unfortunately, the North Sea crabs were sold out, but the "Spiekerteller" (a plate of fried salmon, trout fillet, fried potatoes, and scrambled eggs) was also very good. Particularly noteworthy were the excellent fried potatoes (I wish they could be made just as well at home...) and the extremely tasty scrambled eggs. All this in such a wonderful setting. Thumbs up!

Very funny staff, definitely visit

After being served so rudely by the landlady in OL yesterday, we spontaneously went here for dinner today. What can I say... The atmosphere is very nice, we sat outside and there were lots of people there and yet the noise level was very quiet. The service, the nice lady who served us was friendly, courteous and attentive. No fake friendliness or smiles, everything was natural and genuine. While we waited for the food, I also watched the two male colleagues. They both also went about their work with wit and humor and the friendliness and attentiveness was not lacking. The food was very tasty, with sufficient portions. They even responded to my request for a smaller portion of potato salad with my Bockwurst (I have a gastric bypass and can only eat small portions). You offer top-notch service, keep it up and many thanks to the friendly waitresses. We will definitely come back next year on holiday.

Yes, highly recommended. The fried potatoes are always fresh, as there are two people behind the house peeling potatoes all day long. The food is truly delicious and it's a lovely place to stop.

Spieker is always a nice experience, but the prices have risen quite a bit

Well, we were rather disappointed by the highly acclaimed Spieker Restaurant. Aside from the uniformed staff, the fried potatoes were rather mediocre, and my Stremel salmon wasn't much better than the one from the supermarket.

A small, cozy restaurant with a stunning view of Lake Zwischenahner. Unfortunately, during our group visit, drinks like Coke, Fanta, Alster, etc. weren't available because the tap was broken. We only discovered this at our table. The food was okay, but the portions were unfortunately very small. They wanted a €4 surcharge for the crab, but this wasn't mentioned anywhere and wasn't revealed until we ordered.

Rustic ambience. Idyllically situated amidst an old farmhouse complex. Just a few meters from the lake. Quaint service. A good small menu. Outside, only pitchers of 😀 and 0.5l beer are available. Our herring fillet was excellent. Two fillets with a flavorful sauce and onion rings. It came with a generous portion of fried potatoes that were truly crispy in the pan. Truly delicious. Parking costs €3 and is a 2-3 minute walk away. If we're ever in the area again, we'd be happy to come back.

I have to say, these were the best fish dishes I've ever eaten. A lovely, rustic restaurant with friendly staff, and the food was truly fabulous.

Highly recommended. A very quaint restaurant with excellent service and a good selection of dishes. You should definitely try the Ammerländer Löffeltrunk (a local beer). Unfortunately, only the beer garden is wheelchair accessible.

A visit to the Spieker in Bad Zwischenahn is not only a culinary experience, but also a journey into regional tradition! I was particularly impressed by the famous eel dish, for which the restaurant is known far beyond the region. The smoked eel was excellently prepared, tender, and aromatic. It was served in the classic style with bread. The service was, as always, friendly, attentive, and warm. They take their time with their guests and are happy to explain the background to the dishes and customs if they are interested. The cozy atmosphere in the historic building directly on Lake Zwischenahn perfectly rounds off the experience. If you want to experience true North German flair and traditional cuisine, this is the place for you. For me, the Spieker is a must-try on any visit to Bad Zwischenahn!

If you want to eat delicious fish in a historic building, there is no way around Spieker.

Es ist absolut Pflicht in Bad Zwischenahn im Spieker zu speisen. Aal als Vorspeise ist besonders zu empfehlen, auch für Gäste die nicht gerne viel Fisch essen möchten.

Two stars deducted due to an experience with a server today. Three elderly people sat outside in a covered area. The server came after a while and, in a truly inappropriate manner, directed them to a less sheltered area. The reason given was that they weren't generating enough revenue (P.S., the people had ordered dinner and drinks). The seat had to be kept free for customers who would generate more revenue. Both the injured parties and we found this very inappropriate and tactless. The explanation given by the approximately 50-year-old waitress with glasses was that they were earning 100% of the revenue (incidentally, the seat remained unoccupied the entire time we were there). Perhaps the owners should question whether the incentive model is effective and whether this situation should be discussed further. It's a shame that we had to leave with a negative memory.

Beautiful location, but the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The service was also very slow. It seems that anyone sitting upstairs is quickly forgotten.

I can't understand the hype. We had reserved a table and were then seated at the end of the table with other guests in the restaurant, which was not full. Rustic decor? For me it wasn't a rustic table, but a plain, narrow table extension. The food was good. The service too. I would also like to point out two things that did not directly affect us. The couple sitting next to us were only told when they ordered that there would be an additional charge of 4 euros for the crab dishes. This could have been solved better. One person sat so close to the entrance that every door opening was perceived as a disturbance. There were a number of free tables on the upper floor.

Wir waren jetzt zum zweiten Mal hier und konnten bei herrlichstem Wetter im Garten sitzen. Es ist wieder sehr schön gewesen und das Essen ist sehr gut.

We ended up here by chance and had a delicious meal. If you like eel, definitely eat it here, preferably with the schnapps first, in between and afterwards. This is really an experience. Mr. Sari accompanies you through the menu as is tradition here. We saw 3 ladies in a small hut peeling potatoes for fried potatoes and are convinced that they still cook with love for the product! The asparagus was also delicious. We were totally thrilled and can only recommend eating here! We sat outside at lunchtime in the best sunshine and wished for a parasol once or twice, but we were lucky that smaller patches of clouds took over. If you are in Bad Zwischenahn, you definitely have to stay here and enjoy the delicious food.

I can't rate the food, unfortunately we left again. We had made a reservation A table was assigned at the top of the restaurant, unfortunately after 20 minutes of waiting no one came by so we left again. The waitress only came up and said they were sitting upstairs

Atmosphäre ist toll. Mitten auf n einem Bauernhausmuseum in einem alten Hofgebäude mit Biergarten. Nur das Essen enttäuscht. Diverse Fischgerichte mit Bratkartoffeln und angebliche Ammerländer Spezialitäten. Alles etwas lieblos und definitiv nicht original landestypische Küche. Service gut. Eher ein Touristenlokal denn einheimische Leckereien. Kann man mal hingehen, Wiederholung nicht geplant. Für Menschen mit eingeschränkter Mobilität absolut ungeeignet.

Very beautiful old historic building, be sure to reserve! We had a super friendly waiter who also knew how to entertain! Good beer and delicious food! After a long time at my friend's, the four of us tried eel there and I really liked it because it was young and not so greasy. I would also order eel next time! It was a very nice stay at Spieker! Richtig toller Abend! Wir waren begeistert! Die vielen hundert Kilometer Autofahren haben sich gelohnt. Herzlicher Ammerländer Service, klasse Ambiente in einem wirklich historischen Spieker, sehr leckerer Aal mit Bratkartoffeln, und traditionsgemäßes Schnapstrinken aus dem Zinnlöffel mit plattdeutschem Trinkspruch. Toll!

Beautiful location but the staff is so grumpy. And then they ask for a tip. When I want to give my mother a 2 euro tip, the waiter says that is not even 5% and that it is too little. Too bad!

Today's lunch was at Spieker in Bad Zwischenahn, a very rustic restaurant in an old half-timbered farmhouse. The atmosphere is, as I said, very rustic and cozy, you immediately feel at home. For dinner there was chicken broth and mock turtle as a starter soup. Both soups were very well seasoned, very tasty and really hot. A good start. The main courses were the housewife-style herring fillet and the skewer plate. The fish in both dishes was excellent, especially the stremella salmon was sensationally smoked. The fried potatoes were juicy and crispy. The service was very friendly, there were no long waiting times. It was a successful visit and I can only recommend Spieker.

Very nice historic building with ambience and a view of the Zwischeaner Meer. The food was very tasty, eel fried in butter with fried potatoes, as well as Ammerland ham with egg and fried potatoes. The service was attentive and very friendly. We were also enthusiastic about the traditional Ammerland spoon drink, so we definitely wanted to try it out. We'd love to come back.

Aufgrund der langen Wartezeit für zwei Mahlzeiten (nahezu 2 Stunden) haben wir mitbekommen wie Gäste regelrecht vom knappen sowie überforderten Service Personal regelrecht angepöbelt wurden… Da ist einem anschließend der Appetit gründlich vergangen… Hervorzuheben war eine männliche Servicekraft welcher offensichtlich noch von der guten alten Schule war … Nachschulung der übrigen Service Kräfte dringend erforderlich - so geht man ganz sicherlich nicht mit Gäste um !!!

I had never been to a farmhouse before, so I can only describe this restaurant as "rustic." We were at Spieker twice. The first time for dinner: The portions were very large and the fried potatoes were nice and crispy without being greasy. If there were onions and bacon included, they would be the best fried potatoes I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, that was all I can recommend, because the fish, no matter which one you chose on the menu, was cold 😒 I think that should have been noted on the menu. Since the restaurant was close to us and the waiter told us that the cakes were homemade, we came back a few days later for coffee and cake. The rhubarb cake with streusel tasted good but wasn't that special, while the cream tasted strange. We prefer Kur Kaffee Ewen, which offers significantly better cakes and tarts. Contrary to other opinions, my friends and I can only give it 3 stars.

Beautiful ambience in old Spieker. Trained staff. Down-to-earth food with rather small portions. Steep stairs. Not barrier-free. Toilet 50m across the yard. Unfortunately, 12 of us sat squeezed far too closely together despite having a reservation. The acoustics upstairs are disastrous when it's full. It is then hardly possible to have a conversation with the other person. So it's better to avoid peak times or reserve a table downstairs.
