It’s a great beer garden. Nice and simple. Tables are under the apple trees. Very nice staff. Good food. Real German at a nice lake in a recreation park. If you want to experience a real beer garden. I strongly recommend this place

Very friendly service, who even when the beer garden was full, still found time for a quick chat. The food was served promptly from the kitchen. The fried potatoes were delicious. The portions were well worth the price.

Beautiful location, but the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The service was also very slow. It seems that anyone sitting upstairs is quickly forgotten.

Two stars deducted due to an experience with a server today. Three elderly people sat outside in a covered area. The server came after a while and, in a truly inappropriate manner, directed them to a less sheltered area. The reason given was that they weren't generating enough revenue (P.S., the people had ordered dinner and drinks). The seat had to be kept free for customers who would generate more revenue. Both the injured parties and we found this very inappropriate and tactless. The explanation given by the approximately 50-year-old waitress with glasses was that they were earning 100% of the revenue (incidentally, the seat remained unoccupied the entire time we were there). Perhaps the owners should question whether the incentive model is effective and whether this situation should be discussed further. It's a shame that we had to leave with a negative memory.

I can't understand the hype. We had reserved a table and were then seated at the end of the table with other guests in the restaurant, which was not full. Rustic decor? For me it wasn't a rustic table, but a plain, narrow table extension. The food was good. The service too. I would also like to point out two things that did not directly affect us. The couple sitting next to us were only told when they ordered that there would be an additional charge of 4 euros for the crab dishes. This could have been solved better. One person sat so close to the entrance that every door opening was perceived as a disturbance. There were a number of free tables on the upper floor.

What an amazing building and setting for dinner, but the food while ok, was nothing special, we enjoyed the smoked eel, but our mains were full of onion and very greasy but tasty

Wir waren jetzt zum zweiten Mal hier und konnten bei herrlichstem Wetter im Garten sitzen. Es ist wieder sehr schön gewesen und das Essen ist sehr gut.

We ended up here by chance and had a delicious meal. If you like eel, definitely eat it here, preferably with the schnapps first, in between and afterwards. This is really an experience. Mr. Sari accompanies you through the menu as is tradition here. We saw 3 ladies in a small hut peeling potatoes for fried potatoes and are convinced that they still cook with love for the product! The asparagus was also delicious. We were totally thrilled and can only recommend eating here! We sat outside at lunchtime in the best sunshine and wished for a parasol once or twice, but we were lucky that smaller patches of clouds took over. If you are in Bad Zwischenahn, you definitely have to stay here and enjoy the delicious food.

I can't rate the food, unfortunately we left again. We had made a reservation A table was assigned at the top of the restaurant, unfortunately after 20 minutes of waiting no one came by so we left again. The waitress only came up and said they were sitting upstairs

Atmosphäre ist toll. Mitten auf n einem Bauernhausmuseum in einem alten Hofgebäude mit Biergarten. Nur das Essen enttäuscht. Diverse Fischgerichte mit Bratkartoffeln und angebliche Ammerländer Spezialitäten. Alles etwas lieblos und definitiv nicht original landestypische Küche. Service gut. Eher ein Touristenlokal denn einheimische Leckereien. Kann man mal hingehen, Wiederholung nicht geplant. Für Menschen mit eingeschränkter Mobilität absolut ungeeignet.

Richtig toller Abend! Wir waren begeistert! Die vielen hundert Kilometer Autofahren haben sich gelohnt. Herzlicher Ammerländer Service, klasse Ambiente in einem wirklich historischen Spieker, sehr leckerer Aal mit Bratkartoffeln, und traditionsgemäßes Schnapstrinken aus dem Zinnlöffel mit plattdeutschem Trinkspruch. Toll!

Beautiful location but the staff is so grumpy. And then they ask for a tip. When I want to give my mother a 2 euro tip, the waiter says that is not even 5% and that it is too little. Too bad!

First of all I have to say that it is one. Wonderful, rustic restaurant where you can feel very comfortable. Super small, but with lots of seats, which doesn't make things easy in terms of waiting time. But when the food comes - it's crazy. Very tasty and bourgeois. Thanks for breakfast with you!

Today's lunch was at Spieker in Bad Zwischenahn, a very rustic restaurant in an old half-timbered farmhouse. The atmosphere is, as I said, very rustic and cozy, you immediately feel at home. For dinner there was chicken broth and mock turtle as a starter soup. Both soups were very well seasoned, very tasty and really hot. A good start. The main courses were the housewife-style herring fillet and the skewer plate. The fish in both dishes was excellent, especially the stremella salmon was sensationally smoked. The fried potatoes were juicy and crispy. The service was very friendly, there were no long waiting times. It was a successful visit and I can only recommend Spieker.

Aufgrund der langen Wartezeit für zwei Mahlzeiten (nahezu 2 Stunden) haben wir mitbekommen wie Gäste regelrecht vom knappen sowie überforderten Service Personal regelrecht angepöbelt wurden… Da ist einem anschließend der Appetit gründlich vergangen… Hervorzuheben war eine männliche Servicekraft welcher offensichtlich noch von der guten alten Schule war … Nachschulung der übrigen Service Kräfte dringend erforderlich - so geht man ganz sicherlich nicht mit Gäste um !!!

Very nice historic building with ambience and a view of the Zwischeaner Meer. The food was very tasty, eel fried in butter with fried potatoes, as well as Ammerland ham with egg and fried potatoes. The service was attentive and very friendly. We were also enthusiastic about the traditional Ammerland spoon drink, so we definitely wanted to try it out. We'd love to come back.

I had never been to a farmhouse before, so I can only describe this restaurant as "rustic." We were at Spieker twice. The first time for dinner: The portions were very large and the fried potatoes were nice and crispy without being greasy. If there were onions and bacon included, they would be the best fried potatoes I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, that was all I can recommend, because the fish, no matter which one you chose on the menu, was cold 😒 I think that should have been noted on the menu. Since the restaurant was close to us and the waiter told us that the cakes were homemade, we came back a few days later for coffee and cake. The rhubarb cake with streusel tasted good but wasn't that special, while the cream tasted strange. We prefer Kur Kaffee Ewen, which offers significantly better cakes and tarts. Contrary to other opinions, my friends and I can only give it 3 stars.

Beautiful ambience in old Spieker. Trained staff. Down-to-earth food with rather small portions. Steep stairs. Not barrier-free. Toilet 50m across the yard. Unfortunately, 12 of us sat squeezed far too closely together despite having a reservation. The acoustics upstairs are disastrous when it's full. It is then hardly possible to have a conversation with the other person. So it's better to avoid peak times or reserve a table downstairs.

Real German restaurant with famous smokers eel

Wir waren zu Viert im Spieker angemeldet, d. h. Tisch bestellt zum Aalessen, etc. Platziert wurden wir am langen Tisch direkt neben der Eingangstür! Bei einer Außentemperatur von minus 2Grad Celsius und ohne einen Vorhang oder sonstigen Windschutz eine einzige Zumutung!! Bei offener Tür - und die ging oft auf- froren wir Stein und Bein … die Servietten flogen vom Tisch!! Wir haben uns unsere Mäntel um die Hüften gelegt, hat nur bedingt geholfen…. Rückenschmerzens in allem und Schnupfen inbegriffen!!! Für diese Behandlung kann auch das Essen nicht entschädigen, zumal die geräucherten Aale nicht tagesfrisch waren - wir können das beurteilen! Alles in Allem ein absoluter Reinfall!!!!

Eine sehr interessante Erfahrung. Urig und authentisch. Räucheraal mit Schwarzbrot ist ein delikates Essen. Gaststätte hat ihren eigenen besonderen Charme.

The restaurant is located in a historic building. The waiters are dressed accordingly in traditional costume. The service was incredibly nice, the food is very good. We had a great evening there.

We had a wonderful evening at Spieker. The food (eel) tasted excellent. We thought the round of drinks (Dornkaart) with the toast was great. A nice tradition. The atmosphere is very nice and the service is very friendly. The price-performance ratio is right. A good address. We'll be back.

The food is completely overpriced, stay away! I had some stremella salmon with 1.5 slices of brown bread for €20.90! Impudence!

Vis à vie vom Zwischenahner Meer im Freilichtmuseum, schönes museales und rustikales Ambiente, sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Bedienung inklusive. Die Portionen waren „meer“ wie ausreichend, dass „Spieker-Spezial“ - Zwischenahner Smoortaal (filetiert) Bratkartoffeln und Rührei von zwei Eiern war sehr schmackhaft, vor allem die Bratkartoffeln waren so richtig knusprig und lecker – übrigens, das Nordseefrühstück (Bratkartoffeln, Krabben, Rührei) geht auch gut am Abend! Die Preise sind angemessen zu dem was dort auf‘m Tisch kommt, daher ist der Spieker auch sehr zu empfehlen! Alles in allem war es ein gelungener Abend nach einen schönen Tag am Zwischenahner Meer.

The Spieker plate is recommended. The mock turtle soup was also good. Here, however, I recommend half a slice of 1 cm thick, rustic country bread instead of half a slice of toast. The service is particularly noteworthy. Fast, extremely open and friendly, without wanting to exaggerate. And also competent. The ambience was rustic, but tables and toilets were not rustic. More hygiene was also important here. It was quite loud at times as there were quite a few tables. In order for a restaurant to be sufficiently profitable, the noise is an unavoidable problem when space is limited. Since this restaurant fits into the surroundings (museum character), cobblestones are to be expected. So it is not suitable for wheelchair users. The entrance here is also not suitable. Most tables can only be reached via stairs.

Food was super tasty. The fried potatoes were really crispy and very, very tasty. The house is comfortably furnished and the staff is friendly and attentive. Both dressed in traditional costume to match the ambience. If you want to eat eel, you have to dig a little deeper into your pockets.

Nice location, we sat outside on a Friday afternoon in sunny weather. It was quite busy, but the service was still good and quick. We had fish (matjes or fried herring) with fried potatoes: the fried potatoes lingered in our stomachs a little longer, a small side dish of salta would have been included in the price, but overall there are 4 stars for the food and 4.5 as an overall rating.

Simply unique. Cool half-timbered house. Only the stairs to the upper floor are not for people with walking difficulties. It's a shame, but it's an old house. Service was very, very friendly and the dishes were delicious. My husband enjoyed eating the eel and enjoyed it. Especially the obligatory sip of grain😃

A solid 90 minute wait for the food to arrive. The size of the kitchen simply doesn't match the number of tables. And then the smoked eel was rubber too! Very, very unfortunate. Eating there has always been a highlight. Thank you too.....

Gebratener Aal ( 38,50 euro) wurde auf einer kühlen Pfanne ohne Stövchen serviert. Daher alles lauwarm. Bratkartoffeln eher frittiert, ggf in Pfanne in zu viel Öl gebraten. Aal übergart und trocken. Konstruktive Kritik wurde von Kellnerin zur Kenntnis genommen aber ignoriert. Keine Entschuldigung. Für den Preis darf man etwas mehr erwarten.

Insgesamt hat der Spieker unsere durch die guten Bewertungen bedingte Erwartungen leider nicht wirklich erfüllen können. Unsere Reservierung war bei schönstem Sommerwetter drinnen. Für draussen war die Bedienung leider nicht willens uns einen Tisch ggf,. auch mit Wartezeit zu besorgen. "Da müssen sie schon selber schauen!" Hat dann irgendwie geklappt, trotz großem Andrang aber guter Service sieht anders aus. Die Speisekarte ist naturgemäß sehr Fisch/Aal-orientiert. Das ist ok und ja auch die Spezialität, die man hier erwartet und sucht, Für mich als "nicht-Fisch-Esser" waren die Alternativen aber sehr dünn gesät und es blieb am Ende nur die Brotzeit und die war in der Tat enttäuschend. Für knappe 18 Euro war es viel zu wenig und die groß angekündigte Brotauswahl waren ein paar kümmerliche, kleine Scheiben, dünn geschnitten und auch nicht wirklich lecker. Meine Frau hatte Krabben mit Rührei und Bratkartoffeln. Preislich angemessen, Krabben waren frisch und schmackhaft. Die Bratkartoffeln waren aber eher matschig, kleingeschnitten, ich knusprig und konnten nicht begeistern. Das Ambiente draussen war sehr schön, die Bedienung abgesehen vom Reservierungsproblem am Anfang dann auch recht flink und freundlich. Somit reicht es noch zu einem "Dreier". Begeisterung sieht aber tatsächlich anders aus.

So incredible service like that, we wanted to drink a nice latte or latte machiato, answer: we only have filter coffee. Politely asked about cake if it was possible, answer: no from 2 p.m., it's much friendlier.
