After a beer tour at Schlenkerla, we went to the special cellar because our guide recommended the place to us. On the one hand, it is interesting to taste another smoked beer directly after the well-known Schlenkerla. And on the other hand, the special cellar has an incredibly beautiful view. Since we already had a reservation at another restaurant, we didn't eat anything, but "just" tasted the beers. The Esseb that was carried past us looked very good and smelled excellent. So, if you head up the hill, I can only warmly recommend stopping for a bike ride at the Spezial-Keller.

Somewhat far from the center, and in an elevated area, from there you can enjoy good views of the city and it has a very pleasant wooded area where the biergarten is set up. It seemed to me that most of the clientele were locals. Be careful, the kitchen closes soon!

I love it up here. You have a wonderful view of Bamberg. Reservations are almost recommended during peak times. We were lucky. Super delicious snack - the 3-cheese plate with fine pretzel and a measure of Russn.

Despite having enough free (really free) tables, we were sent away and treated very unkindly. Would give -stars if possible.

Unfriendly service, we were there for an hour in the afternoon and were pressured to drink just because each person (5) only ordered one large drink. We were asked 4 times if we wanted anything else. Plus we had to pay after 10 minutes ;) On top of that, very unfriendly and irritated because we don't leave tips for such service?

Had just beer here, all of them was excellent pils as well as light smoked lager (helles), unfortunately only these two were draft ( vom vass), shaufelle looked very good, anyway. Nice view on the city, spoiled by play ground for kids.

Here too, super-friendly service and very tasty dishes. We had the half chicken and the roast pork and the Obazda as a starter. All highly recommended. In terms of beer, we found the wheat beer to be the best...

Food, drinks, service, view, trees everything 👍

Payment can only be made with EC - and not with credit card. Since I registered this too late, everyone else I brought with me was no longer allowed to pay with card/EC cards. This was acknowledged with a: “I won’t let myself be fooled anymore” from the service staff. 1. Suggestion, if I want to block paying with the credit card, I can certainly do this on the device. Alternatively, I offer it, there should also be guests from abroad. 2. Suggestion, a bit nicer tone, and if there are problems, discuss them directly with the customer on site and not play power games with companions. We were 20 people on July 13th. at 2:30 p.m. and were served by a woman. In this case, some people's tips were saved, I think that goes without saying.

Most beautiful beer cellar in Bamberg. Very nice view towards the cathedral. We were here on Saturday evening. Despite the crowds, we were lucky to get a seat. The friendly service had everything under control.

Waiter apparently has no idea how to serve tables. Sitting here forever and the guy wins Olympic gold by looking the other way. You only got something to drink if you called half the beer garden together to make yourself comfortable. If there were 8 people, we can definitely not recommend it. Food mediocre, Aperol ready mixed and everything else a little below average Keep distance.

This beer garden is by far one of the most beautiful in the city. The climb is worth it. The route via the Bamberg ferry is particularly beautiful. Love it.

For everyone new: If you are looking for a "beer cellar" - i.e. beer garden - with delicious cold and warm cuisine, a lovely little playground, the most beautiful view and of course, if you wish, special smoked beer, you will find it here!

Italian festival in the cellar attracted many people. The eating and drinking stations were inadequately staffed to handle these crowds. The stay involved long waiting times, unfortunately you can't speak of a comfortable get-together. The Italian music, the free ice cream for children and the good pizza slices were positive.

Great place for a nice rauch beer - food looked good too (traditional for the region)

Been there June 28, 2024: The location is very nice. But that was also the positive thing about our visit. The tables were dirty and were then roughly cleaned with a rag. We ordered 3 beers. One of them had no/hardly any carbonation - it had probably been sitting at the counter for a while. When we pointed this out to the waitress (it was his first day at work) he asked his boss. He came back with the answer that it couldn't be and there was nothing he could do about it. We then drank 2 of the 3 beers and left. This has nothing to do with customer orientation. We found the beer garden to be “mass processing” and no longer go there.

The view never gets old! Super beautiful view of Bamberg. The food is good, but the prices for the portion sizes are also rather expensive. The waitresses were exceptionally friendly. There is a pleasant atmosphere in the cellar.

We recommend. The cellar is quietly located above the city, with beautiful large trees providing shade. Friendly service, fast and reliable. Food and drinks top!

Simply unfriendly service, I can't put it into words... the beer tastes pretty good, but unfortunately the service is far from that. We wanted to set up a few folded-down chairs and a table for ourselves, but we were told that it was folded for a reason and that we should look for another table, unfortunately there was no sign on it... It wasn't that bad at all, we looked for a table nearby and ordered successfully, then we saw exactly the first mentioned (unreserved) table being folded down and made ready for another group, even though we were told that it wasn't being served would... catastrophe... after a few comments we were more or less "forced" to pay and left... you have to know...

The service (blonde, glasses, shorter than the other person, male, in the back outdoor area) was unfortunately unfriendly and not caring… they were forced to pay and are stunned by this stay. Please avoid this service!

Top food, top view, service more than friendly. What more do you want. A perfect place to spend a warm summer evening in a beer garden atmosphere.

Unfortunately we were not greeted politely. We drank all of our away beer outside and wanted to hand the bottles in for disposal. We were aggressively sent off by a waiter for no reason. We suspect that bad things have already happened here. However, greeting your customers so aggressively is a no go. No recommendation from us!

If you are in Bamberg and the weather is right, a visit here is a must. The view is fantastic. Staff top. Really one of the most beautiful cellars (= beer garden). Definitely visit...

A little old, but still recommended. Very friendly service. The bratwurst served still needs to “grow up” (very small). Nice view of the city as the restaurant is on a hill. Easily accessible on foot, even if it is a bit uphill in parts.

The special cellar high above Bamberg right next to the observatory is an absolutely recommended beer garden and restaurant. The food is delicious, the beer is highly recommended and the view over Bamberg is fantastic. The staff is quick and friendly. A place to linger, relax and eat and drink well and inexpensively. There is even a small playground for smaller children. And if you're wondering: Yes, the "cellar" is on top of the mountain and is not a cellar. He probably got the name from the brewery cellar for his beer. And no, you don't have to go down, you have to go up quite steeply. But it's really worth it! We'd love to come back.

I really enjoy coming here. Always beautiful, Bamberg from above. Beer garden was great, unfortunately it rained, but then off to the bar. It's still really original here. I think the smoked beer is better than the local one because it doesn't smoke quite as heavily Come again !

Dear guests, please hold back on tipping! The owners don't pay tips to the serving waiters/waitresses - really cheeky. Everyone who works in the kitchen and in service should receive their tips. The waiter who served us patronized us and informed us in a stressful and unfriendly manner about the kitchen closing time and the type of beer we asked for. The food was good but the service situation made it unappetizing. ANSWER: Your temporary help gets food instead of tips, and your waiters get tips but no food, those are facts. Instead of accusing us of lying, it would be fair to pay out tips fairly to everyone.

The beautiful view over Bamberg compensates for the mediocre price-performance ratio of the food and the grumpy service.

The special cellar is located just outside of Bamberg and is an absolutely recommended excursion destination. The beer is delicious and the food is good. From up there you have a really nice view towards Bamberg. The outdoor area offers plenty of seating.

First of all, the positive: Nice view over Bamberg & good food. The service and friendliness of the staff doesn't deserve a single star. We had reserved for 14 people, then our table was given to another group because we were apparently there too early. We had to sit in the sun without an umbrella. After the second beer, the waitress asked us to leave the beer garden and go. Unfortunately, the moody lady couldn't explain to us why.

Godlessly unfriendly. Immediately expelled from the beer garden for no reason!

Amazing place and amazing Duck!

There were four of us and we sat down at the table with other, friendlier people. The older gentleman, the condition, was probably overwhelmed and sent us away in such an unfriendly tone. We just wanted something to drink and asked if we could get that, only to be told "out of the way now". So the visit to Bamberg was very nice in itself, but the location and these unfriendly conditions made part of the day unpleasant.

A very nice Franconian inn in the pretty little town of Bamberg. Taste the typical dishes of the region and let yourself be tempted by the famous smoked beer. If you are lucky enough to come on a sunny and not too cool day, you will have to sit on the “Biergarten” terrace to enjoy the view of the city. The service is warm and efficient.
