The food is excellent, and the service is exceptionally attentive and incredibly friendly. The ambiance is, of course, a matter of taste, but the Sternla is highly recommended.

The food was okay, except for the slices of bread in the Schlachtschüssel (battle bowl) that were soggy from the sauerkraut. The waitress wandered aimlessly around the area in a half-full beer garden. After we asked a waitress that we wanted to order something, she replied, "I'll tell my colleague," and the same thing happened to the next one 😩

Very tasty - the shank, the shoulder is simply amazing. The staff is exhausted, but friendly. Beer is delicious. The prices are also friendly - not expensive. I liked it.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The food selection is really good, and the daily specials are also very interesting. The beer selection is really tasty, and the value for money is good. The service is excellent. I would rate this restaurant above its well-known competitors. You should at least try a beer or something to eat here.

Hello, We were at: 🌟 on Sunday with the whole family. We arrived more than punctually. We knew we'd have to wait a bit. Upon arrival, we were told our table was INSIDE the restaurant!! 😡 WE didn't want that. The restaurant was full, so we had to wait until a table became available. The staff was very nice and attentive. The food was okay, we won't be coming back for that. The prices 👎🏼 6 people around €200 including drinks (no fancy ones) 😤 you can definitely find better and cheaper food.

Never waited so long for a beer—I almost died of thirst like a cactus in Antarctica. The pink-haired waitress (presumably a recent escapee from an anime or undercover in a TikTok social experiment?) seemed slightly overwhelmed—as if she were hearing about the existence of beer for the first time in her life. Maybe she thought it was a new gender term. While we sat around like discarded decorations in the beer garden for disappointments, the dog at the next table—a poodle mix with more catering expertise than the entire wait staff—got his water bowl first. No joke. A dog. Gets. His. Drink. First. I'm seriously considering coming in on all fours and barking next time—seems more efficient. When we then padded to the bar on our own, like beer zombies on a pilgrimage, we were gently but firmly put back in our waiting position. "Sit down," as if this were a therapy session for hope. Result: Another 10-minute wait. For two beers. TWO. No dry-aged Wagyu sushi with truffle foam, just liquid bread in a bottle. But joking aside: The beer was excellent, the staff friendly – they'd just apparently been surprised by a bus of pensioners from the Palatinate region, which unloaded its passengers into the bar with surgical precision. The beer garden was literally flooded with a tour of pensioners, as if someone had opened a time machine and invited all of Franconia in 1953. The good group obviously wasn't from Bamberg – and had probably just been mysteriously teleported here. After five minutes, no one knew what they were ordering. Orders were repeated three times, canceled, rewritten, drinks swapped, and at some point, everyone had probably ordered everything once – without even realizing it. A logistical challenge for any waitress, no matter how pink their hair or resilient their nerves. And anyone who has ever served a horde of travel-loving Palatinate people who are thirsty and have a lack of orientation knows that it's easy to lose touch with reality for a short time.

We stopped here spontaneously after our sightseeing tour and got a table super quickly, even though we were a large group. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We felt completely at home.

I've been there several times hoping for improvement – unfortunately, to no avail. Inattentive service, weak beer, and exorbitant prices. Disappointing.

Very good beer in Bamberg's oldest brewery. A lovely courtyard invites you to linger, and the food selection is satisfactory. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. I'd be happy to come back again.

We booked the beer tasting and were very satisfied. We received a lot of information from the brewer himself, including a short tour of the brewery.

relaxed beer garden and some nice looking space inside. They offer quite some special beer according to the seasons and the current Sommerbier was super fresh n nice - we had some cheese with "Musik" which was altho extreme yummy. Service as usual around there super nice.

Unfortunately, the service was very stressed, which is probably why it was a bit short-tempered.

After 2 weeks traveling through the Rhine Valley and Bavaria (and eating at 1-2 new German restaurant everyday) I now understand why this place is constantly packed. They serve the best versions of all the things you see on every menu. The liverwurst, bratwurst, dumplings, etc. all amazing. I still dream about their fried potatoes. Never had such creamy potatoes… how do they do it? Sigh. It’s too busy for staff to go above and beyond service wise but every one was friendly in this well oiled machine. Prices fair and can’t beat the history too!

Long waits - standing beer is always a good idea. Nice people make room at the table. The beer tasted great - light summer beer and delicious Schäuferla (a kind of fried doughnut)! We visited there three times.

Wonderful Franconia, with such lovely restaurants! This is Bamberg's oldest inn. For centuries, they've known what thirsty and hungry guests really need: a hearty beer (we enjoyed the wonderful summer beer) and something substantial to eat (we opted for a super-delicious Schäuferla (a kind of pork sausage with cabbage and dumplings). And while you indulge, you can strike up a great conversation with your indulgent neighbors (in our case, two Lower Bavarians, an American, and a Mexican). Wonderful!

We had a Schäufele (shoulder of pork), which was truly excellently prepared. Unfortunately, the goulash we also had was very oversalted, so we had to return it. Mistakes like this can happen, and we appreciate that we were offered a coffee or schnapps as compensation. However, since we don't drink either, this offer wasn't available to us. However, the handling of the bill was disappointing: Despite our legitimate complaint, we were charged the full amount for the goulash. The waiters also confirmed that another guest had already returned the dish for the same reason—so this was clearly not an isolated incident. After a brief discussion, we were ultimately not charged for a drink, which was a small concession, but did not reflect the extent of the error. A pro rata billing for the goulash would have been much fairer and more customer-friendly, especially since the restaurant was at fault. It's a shame when guests have to pay for deficiencies for which they are not responsible. For this reason, I will unfortunately not visit the restaurant again—despite the very good Schäufele.

A truly fantastic brewery with delicious beer and, above all, delicious Franconian food. We went there twice in a row, once inside (weather) and once outside (sunshine ☀️) - both times were fantastic and extremely communicative! You also sit at a table with other people, and it's just wonderful and uncomplicated here - very interesting and exciting. The staff is also in a great mood, despite the busyness and the amount of work, or perhaps because of it. The "boss" tells you who sits where when it's busy and waiting, and it WORKS! The positive attitude and uncomplicated approach seem to spill over automatically, and there's just a great atmosphere here! Highly recommended.

The newest brewery in Bamberg, to a city that has been making beer for over 900 yrs was amazing. This local restaurant is in the downtown area had opening seating that we shared, a European tradition. We enjoyed local cuisine that was authentically delicious. 1 Bratwurst with saurkraut and cooked potatoes was delicious. The beer was enjoyable. A fun filled atmosphere with friendly hosts made our evening out perfect on our Gernsn vacation.

Top-notch seasonal beer (summer beer), very friendly service! The food is decent, home-style cooking at a decent level. Aside from the fact that there are no designated smoking areas and the umbrellas provide shade, the smoke from other tables lingers longer, everything is great.

...According to the guidebook, the Sternla is not only the oldest but, in my opinion, also the best inn in Bamberg. I spent five days in Bamberg and dined here five evenings. Very good, typical food, a nice beer garden where you can quickly "connect" if you want, and the large tables are shared. The sauerkraut is simply delicious. Great bratwurst and Leberkäse (meat loaf). Very friendly and efficient staff. (And ideally located if you're staying at the Ibis Styles across the street 😉)

Unfriendly, not tasty food, not a nice ambience

We dined at the outside tables. It is possible that people who do not know each other are seated at the table, but we do not mind. Excellent beer, good, tasty and abundant dishes. Super value for money. Friendly staff despite the large turnout.

We went there twice today: the first and the last. The chicken was tasteless, the gardener's salad was 90% lettuce drenched in oil. The bread, okay, is good for jaw exercises. We didn't have any refreshing wipes. Maybe we were just unlucky.

For me one of the best beers in Bamberg, especially the Märzen.

When it came to the food I have to say that the fried potatoes were just crunchy and not crispy.

The beer garden was packed and loud. Although very few people had ordered food, we waited an hour for our food. We're talking schnitzel and fried potatoes, so nothing fancy. To us, it seemed like a tactical wait to get us to drink more. By the way: there are no Cokes or soft drinks?! A no-go for me! The schnitzel itself was good, but the potatoes were stale and just oily, slimy, and flavorless.

Schäuferla was delicious. We (3 people) ate well, under 60 euros, including drinks. Friendly staff. Biergarten was full, while the restaurant inside was empty, maybe it's a german thing? or maybe it was because we went there on a weekday in spring? So I recommend booking in advance.
