A very traditional Franconian restaurant with excellent food and very friendly service. The atmosphere is rustic; couples sit together with others at long tables, but this doesn't detract from the atmosphere.

In the heart of Bamberg, this is a truly quaint, long-established restaurant serving typical Franconian dishes. Even locals enjoy dining here, or simply enjoying a delicious beer. The menu, written in the local dialect, might pose a challenge for those unfamiliar with Franconia. The service is quick and very friendly. The prices are fair, and it's a place you'll want to return to. To guarantee a table, reservations are highly recommended.

Came in on a busy Friday evening and they were able to accommodate us. The service was very friendly and efficient. The beer was delicious and the food outstanding. My wife had the goulash and I had the pork shoulder. Both were cooked to perfection.

We found this restaurant at lunchtime today and went in. It was really busy, which is a good sign. The menu is in magazine format, and the dishes are listed in Franconian dialect. The prices are reasonable for the excellent food. Service is quick and friendly, and the ambiance lives up to its claim of being Bamberg's oldest inn. Since 2019, they've also been brewing their own beer, Sternla, which is served directly from the kegs. We'll definitely be back!

There were eight of us, and we had a reservation; otherwise, we probably wouldn't have had a chance. Their own beer is great. Regarding the food, a saying comes to mind for some of the dishes we ate: "Quantity and quality..." But everyone has to decide for themselves after a visit. The staff was excellent. Simply a lovely Franconian pub. Good beer and good food. The service is friendly in typical Franconian fashion. It can get a bit noisy in the pub at times, but that's part of the atmosphere. There are daily specials and a very good menu that suits the pub. In addition to the always-available beers, there are also seasonal brews.

You have to go there at least once...

Oh my goodness! The food was absolutely scrumptious! I decided to try the traditional schnitzel dish, and it was cooked to perfection. It was accompanied by fried potatoes and a side salad. The dressing was homemade, and I can’t even begin to describe how delicious it was! It was definitely worth a visit!

The price-performance ratio is excellent 👍🏻

Brauhaus Zum Sternla – A Legendary Must-Visit Place I had one of the most enjoyable moments I've had in Bamberg at Brauhaus Zum Sternla. The authentic German tavern atmosphere that greets you from the moment you step inside, the wooden tables, the historic atmosphere, and the warm attitude of the staff truly make you feel special. You can immediately tell this is a true local spot rather than a tourist destination. For dinner, we tried the sausages and schnitzel, and both were simply excellent. The sausages were incredibly flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The mustard and garnishes were also excellent. The schnitzel, on the other hand, was generously portioned, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly cooked. It's one of the few places where you can experience authentic German cuisine. The beers are a separate topic. The beers we had were truly wonderful. Both the aroma and the taste were incredibly balanced. For those who appreciate fresh, cold, and quality beer, I can say it's a true paradise. You can feel this place as a beer house with every sip. The service speed and attentive staff were also quite good. Despite it being busy, our order arrived quickly, and everyone was extremely friendly. The prices are quite reasonable considering the location and the quality offered. If you're ever in Bamberg, don't leave without stopping by. The food, the beer, and the atmosphere are sure to make for an unforgettable experience. I'm already looking for an excuse to come back. Absolutely 5 stars and wholeheartedly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We live in Bamberg, and no other restaurant in the city center offers venison goulash. The service was quick and friendly, and they let you order smaller portions of most dishes, which is perfect because dishes in the Franconian region are usually very large, and this way there's less waste.

Never again. Sorry. The liver dumplings were quite hard, the soup watery. The Wiener Schnitzel was dark and the edges were dry. The fried potatoes tasted like they'd been cooked a week ago. The lemon and cranberry jam on the schnitzel were the best things. The apple strudel was just okay. Others had ice cream with raspberry sauce or something like that in their soup bowls. No thanks, there are better restaurants.

We didn't eat anything here, but we did have some delicious beer. Three different beers on tap. The Märzen was one of the best. The service was super friendly and nice and did a great job handling the number of guests.

Once and never again! My venison goulash was really delicious, but the portion was tiny, sorry.

So the tasting was a disappointment. At the snack break, only two out of three tables got food – and it was just bread with sausage, cheese, or Obazda (a Bavarian cheese spread). If you're lactose intolerant, you could starve. The beer we were supposed to taste wasn't even available for purchase there, or it was absolutely awful – who wants beer that smells and tastes like a butcher shop?! The tour of the "brewery" was a joke, because the supposedly amazing brewery was just one room that our group of 15 couldn't even fit into, and we couldn't hear a thing. If you booked the non-alcoholic version as the designated driver, you pay less, but you only get a non-alcoholic beer, which everyone else gets anyway. The guy who gave the tour was clearly enjoying spouting off stupid jokes. The best thing about the whole experience was the bread.

A cozy atmosphere is not welcome at the Sternla. After our small group of men's choir received their first round of beers, we sang the well-known "Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit" (A Toast to Good Cheer). The singing lasted less than 30 seconds and wasn't loud shouting, but rather sung by members of a registered men's choir. Nevertheless, we were immediately told to refrain from doing so in the future. I could understand it if it were a fine dining establishment or a library reading room, but for a traditional brewery pub, I find such behavior extremely inappropriate. I doubt we'll be back.

We were there with a group. Most of us had the Schäufele (pork shoulder), I had the schnitzel. Schnitzel with potato salad and a side salad. Really delicious. Everything was perfect. They provided plenty of lemon upon request. Most of us felt the other dish was a bit small and only average.

We felt very comfortable in the restaurant. There were five of us families, and we had reserved a table in advance, which is highly recommended. The menu offers something for everyone, and the food is prepared fresh and served piping hot. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. There were still seats available at our table, and we were asked if two more people could join us. That was great; it gave us even more to talk about, and we had a very informative evening. The whole atmosphere is something you have to see and experience for yourself. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

Extremely unfriendly service staff. They had no understanding of personal questions and immediately considered it a personal attack. We had to leave the restaurant early because we were verbally assaulted in front of the other guests and personally insulted by the server. Unfortunately, we cannot rate the food.

The service was very unfriendly! She was of the opinion that the "average" customer can't afford tagliatelle for €3.30. The food is usually served dry and without sauce, which is very unsatisfying overall. There are no seat cushions either. The price is a total disgrace. PGH

A very rustic ambiance and, for a tourist restaurant, very good food, including vegetarian options. I was very pleased with the vegetable strudel. Original and authentic smoked beer; not everyone likes it all the time, but it's worth a try. Overall, highly recommended.

Top Franconian cuisine and home-brewed beer.

Quaint and convivial, we spontaneously popped in on a two-day trip. Within minutes, we had something to eat and drink, even though it was already quite busy at lunchtime.

I'll split my review into two parts. Restaurant/Brewery: It's actually quite good; the food is authentic Franconian, hearty, well-prepared, with generous portions and delicious. Nothing to complain about. The beer is also good, although the selection is a bit limited, and the brewery also serves several beers that weren't necessarily brewed by the brewery itself, but that's OK. The ambiance is great, quaint and truly Franconian, cozy. The open space at the back is also lovely, and the old buildings are very impressive. So, as far as the restaurant goes, I'm satisfied for now; I've been there several times and always enjoyed it. The brewery loses its 2 stars (and I'm being generous) because of the beer tasting/brewery tour. As someone who has been on countless tours, in North and South America, throughout the EU, etc., this was by far the weakest, if you can even call it a tour. The colleague wasn't able to give a proper explanation or engage in a conversation. I've been brewing beer myself for over 10 years, and what my colleague "explained" made zero sense. He couldn't answer a single question properly, or rather, he talked a lot of nonsense. It was a total waste of time. But even apart from the guide, the tour cost a cool €30, which is simply too much. Even Heineken, Miller, or Guinness, if you like, cost €20. For that, at least they offer a proper tour. At Sternla, my colleague leaned against one of the barrels and tried to say a few sentences. There was no tour at all, and the rest of the group, who aren't particularly familiar with beer production, probably knew less afterward than they did at the beginning. There was no explanation of how beer is made, what is brewed in the brewery, why, what happens to it, what the machines and equipment are for—nothing. And then six beers were served, three of which were served from the bottle (I've never experienced that in a brewery before), and three of those six beers weren't even brewed in-house, but rather regional beers. So, I can just get the bottles at the supermarket. Okay, management needs to know that. €30 for a tour is already overpriced, but for what was offered, it really borders on you know what. No thanks.

We were at the Zum Sternla brewery in Bamberg. The restaurant was very crowded, and many tables were reserved. We ended up sitting at a large table next to two couples – apparently, they don't offer tables for two, which was a bit unusual at first. Unfortunately, the service was quite unfriendly. Even when ordering, we were barely given time to choose something, and when we asked for a Coke, we were met with a snippy "They only serve Spezi!" We were also repeatedly and rudely informed that our table was only available until 7 p.m. – which wasn't pleasant. The food: The "Wiener-Style" schnitzel tasted really good, but the portions were very uneven. While my friend's schnitzel was enormous, mine was barely the size of a CD. The difference was also noticeable between the fried potatoes and salad. The so-called "fried potatoes" weren't fried potatoes to me – more like boiled potatoes without any roasted flavor, without onions, and without bacon. It was also extremely warm in the dining room, and the windows weren't opened. Conclusion: The beer was delicious, the schnitzel tasted good – but the service, portion size, and atmosphere were unfortunately disappointing.

This was my first time at Sternla. The location is great. The staff are very friendly and attentive. You feel really comfortable. To be honest, the food wasn't my favorite. I had a veal schnitzel with fried potatoes and a side salad. The veal schnitzel was much too thick and unfortunately tough. The fried potatoes were cold and soggy. They had some color on one side, but it seemed old. The side salad was good. The beer was very tasty. I looked in vain for dessert on the menu. Apple strudel was on the daily special, but I wasn't in the mood for that at the time.
