We had a very good meal. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the holiday season.

A very nice restaurant in itself. However, it wasn't at all child-friendly. Our 2-year-old daughter was bumped into by the server, and instead of an apology, she told her that children had to stay in their seats. It's hard to explain to a toddler that they're not allowed to get up. The food was okay, but the prices were too high.

I can only recommend it; everything was perfect. We'll definitely be back.

The food was delicious and came in massive portions (the schnitzel with cucumber and potato salad was a highlight). The only downside is that they are understaffed for the amount of tables. This meant that the wait for ordering was quite long so I wouldn't go if you were in a rush. If time is not an issue though, I'd reccomend checking this out if you are in the area.

I went to eat at Spatzenhäus'l and ordered cheese spaetzle. The ambiance is quaint and cozy, the staff extremely friendly, so I have to compliment them! The restrooms were also very clean. I was torn between two places to eat and finally let the many positive reviews tempt me to try the cheese spaetzle, but unfortunately, I can't share their enthusiasm! Maybe I'm just too demanding because I'm used to homemade cheese spaetzle. What I didn't like: After I ordered, the side salad arrived less than five minutes later, and not even a minute later, the cheese spaetzle. Personally, I like to eat my salad in peace first and find it a shame when the main course and appetizer are served practically at the same time. Furthermore, the extremely short wait unfortunately confirmed my impression that the cheese spaetzle weren't freshly prepared. I was able to sneak a peek into the kitchen later and watch the chef scoop them out of a large pot. In other words, they were probably precooked and simply kept warm in a pot. The taste was rather average. Since I often eat Käsespätzle outside, I can quickly tell whether they're homemade or not. Unfortunately, in this case, that wasn't the case. I found the price rather high considering the quality. It's certainly fine for a one-time visit as a tourist, but for me, it's not enough for a second visit.

The portion was truly generous. It was truly filling. However, we were both a little disappointed by the highly-hyped schnitzel. It tasted a bit dry and was disappointing, especially for the price. The fries were delicious, though! All in all, it's a matter of taste, I guess. The waitresses were very friendly, albeit a bit stressed.

I hesitated to write this review, but since I also work in customer service, I know how important it is to strive to create a pleasant experience for all customers. We didn’t have a reservation, and I appreciate that, since there were still tables available inside, we were seated. However, it was clear that there is a preference for people who speak German. We were with our baby, and one waitress told us we had to wait because we didn’t have a reservation, even as we watched other people also without reservations being seated immediately. Eventually, another waitress shouted at us to sit at a very large table for just the two of us and our baby, and we did. About 10 minutes later, she shouted again, telling us we had to move because “that table was too big for us.” Without apologizing, she made us move again. She continued speaking to us in German despite knowing we didn’t understand, and another waitress had to translate for us even though the first one also spoke English but refused to use it with us. In short, I found the treatment very unpleasant and rude, especially from the waitress who kept shouting at us. There is a clear difference in how national and international tourists are treated. My recommendation: visit other restaurants in the area instead.

We came spontaneously and didn't have a reservation, but there were still a few seats available inside. Outside, everything was booked. The manager is absolutely on the ball. The food was delicious. The price was completely reasonable.

The food is fine. The fries were indeed very salty. I went out for dinner with my partner, and I had already finished the food before she was even served. How hard can it be to serve two schnitzels at the same time! That was the case with all the other guests as well.

The food was excellent. It was very busy, but we were able to get a table inside. It was very warm! We could tell the crowds were there; the friendly but hurried waiter had little time and was constantly rushing around. Reservations seem advisable, but we couldn't easily find them on the website. Perhaps by calling? The menu is a bit difficult to read for people who don't speak German, partly due to the font, but Google will get you a long way ;) The schnitzel was excellent, as were the fries. The food and drinks arrived quickly, but paying took a bit longer. The interior has a typical German atmosphere and was a bit dusty, but it fits the surroundings perfectly.

The restaurant announces open until 10pm (Saturday) and to go food. We wanted just a dish of kasespatzle to go and it was alnost 8pm when we arrived there. The service was very bad and non existent. No one said hello and we were just waiting at the entrance until a lady working there looked at us from above her glasses, and only said "no". No hello, no explanation, not even hearing what we wanted. Another lady walked by, and after we stopped her told us in a rude laugh that they didn't have food anymore. At 8pm on a Saturday, in August. Joke of a service 😂

Very tasty food, large portions and the service is on the ball.

We were there once last year and once this year, and this was also the last time. The food was really good...but changing orders wasn't easy...Questions were answered rudely and hectically by the lady (one of the Finnish bosses) who takes and delivers the food. There were four adults and one child...we couldn't get the food together, so eating together wasn't possible. And then there was the constant stress that prevails there...a real shame. That was it for us!!!

I had made a reservation in advance for one person. Like last year, the server wanted to seat me at a table that was already occupied. I find it discriminatory that this restaurant doesn't reserve a small table for just a crowd. I sat outside despite the moderate weather. I had to wait 20 minutes to place my order. The food was average. I'll be coming to Grainau next year with several people—but definitely not to the Spatzenhäus'l.

I really liked the Spatzenhäus'l – I felt immediately welcome, as soon as I walked in. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic, ideal after a long day in the mountains. The beer garden is particularly lovely, where you can sit outside in good weather and enjoy the view of the Zugspitze massif – a truly feel-good atmosphere! The kitchen serves classic Bavarian home-style cooking – roast pork, pork knuckle, and cheese spaetzle – all in generous portions and very tasty. As for value for money: Main courses usually range from €12–17, which is absolutely fair. The owners are genuinely personable, and they treat guests very friendly.

Reserved a table about 2 weeks ago... It should be noted that there are various statements online about opening hours on Tuesdays..... So I filled out the form on their website to reserve a table for 2 people on July 15, 2025 (my birthday)... if they're closed then, OK, I think... they'll let you know..... Then a day later, a message about my reservation for July 15, 2025 at 7:00 PM Very happy, we're looking forward to it!! A confirmation worked out great for me.... We left Bad Schwartau for vacation to Grainau, a 12-hour drive... fell into bed, and the next day was my birthday 🙌 Spent the day on the Wank, then went to dinner at the Spatzenhäus'l.... Arrived at the restaurant and lo and behold, it was closed. I checked my emails, nothing... just the confirmation! I would have expected at least an email saying "sorry, we made a mistake." Well, we spent an hour searching for other restaurants, but almost all of them refused to accept guests without reservations. Thankfully, we ended up at the Jägerstüberl, where we were warmly welcomed despite the restaurant being packed. 😀 About the Spatzenhäus'l... I rate the food, service, and ambiance of the Spatzenhäus'l poorly because I didn't get to try it. Although the ambiance is actually great, I'm very, very disappointed.

We reserved a table for two, but were seated at a table for six with the instruction that we should move closer together to accommodate more guests. Upon request, we were given another table, as requested when making the reservation. We ordered two beers, one of which was below the maximum. A good third of the goulash was inedible (pure fat). Almost half of the second potato pancake was missing (apparently cut off in the kitchen). This is a great way to save on food. Overall, the service was very hectic and disorganized. Not only we, but several other guests also had to wait for both our drinks (we had to ask several times) and our food. We will not be visiting the restaurant again. The value for money was not good for us.

One star just for the service – the food was excellent! We were guests today and were truly impressed by the food. The taste, quality, and presentation of the dishes were top-notch – compliments to the kitchen! Unfortunately, our visit was severely marred by the service – specifically by one member of the team: a young waiter with black hair. From the very first encounter, he seemed rushed and unfriendly. When I hesitated briefly while ordering, he immediately responded with a snappy "We don't have that" before I could even finish. When it started to rain later, we moved to a free table with a canopy. Instead of briefly asking politely, he shouted loudly across the entire restaurant that we "could have at least brought the tablecloth" – seriously: You can't seriously expect paying guests to do your job when they're actually just trying to enjoy their last beautiful evening of vacation. Over the course of the evening, we were met with several sharp remarks – overall, behavior that is unfortunately out of place in the restaurant industry. Important: The other service staff – especially the lady who served us – were friendly and professional. This really only concerns one employee who unfortunately left a bad impression. Conclusion: Great food, beautiful location – but please reconsider the behavior of individual team members, as service often determines whether you return.

Friendly hosts. Sometimes you have to plan your time and be patient until the food and drinks arrive at your table.

We've eaten here three times, which pretty much says it all. The portions are quite large and the food was always delicious. We also enjoyed the ambiance and service.

We had Wiener Schnitzel and Alpenschnitzel, both with fries. Both were delicious! Very friendly service!

The prices are steep, but I guess you can afford it in this area. The food was okay and plentiful. Good if you like and want Bavarian food. We got a table without a reservation. Quaint interior and snappy service who kept an eye on the place even when it was busy. They could also speak English. Good for international customers. The food and drinks came quickly. What annoyed me, however, was that I had to take my order with only the sides listed on the menu. "There is no other way to eat it." I didn't know that fries were a traditional Bavarian dish... sorry, my mistake. They had to go in the trash. Not in my stomach. I would have liked a healthier side dish. But you're not supposed to eat healthy in Bavaria anyway... also my mistake.

This restaurant is typical and very friendly. They serve delicious dishes in a friendly atmosphere. The staff works hard from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for our enjoyment. The salads and dishes are generous. The strudel is delicious. The beer and white wine are good. I recommend it.

We ate at Spatzenhäus'l several times during our vacation. The quality and taste of the dishes are impeccable. Unfortunately, the ambiance and service suffer when the weather is nice. When the restaurant and outdoor area were full, we waited an hour! for our drinks orders to be taken. After that, we didn't go back. What a shame :(

It's been a long time since I've had such a delicious schnitzel with potato salad, and the same goes for the cheese spaetzle. The portions are very generous, and the prices are absolutely fair. Reservations are a good idea; we were just lucky without them. The waitress had to do everything herself, so the occasional wait is forgiven, thanks in part to her friendliness.

A truly quaint and wonderful restaurant with good, home-cooked food. The two waitresses have their act together! Despite the restaurant being full, there are only short waits. Here, you get portions that won't leave you feeling hungry. I had the grilled pork knuckle with Gniedläh and coleslaw, and when I asked the very friendly waitress if she enjoyed it, all she could say was, "This dish couldn't be better!" The other dishes served to neighboring tables also looked very tasty. Therefore, I would definitely recommend it. If we're ever in the area again, dining here is a must. We'll definitely be back.

The name "Spatzenhäusl" shouldn't be taken for granted. But let's start from the beginning. Reservations are the safe option if you want to sit in the beer garden on nice days. The resolute and on-topic service is excellent. It all happens in quick succession, and no one goes hungry or starves. The portions are almost impossible to manage, even if you're really hungry. But the food tastes so good that you'll give it your all. Top 🔝

We ate here last week evening. The restaurant is very nice and decorated in a typically Bavarian style. I called ahead to reserve a table, but they told us to just drop by. Once we got there, it was full, and we were immediately asked if we had a reservation, which doesn't sit right with me. After we found a seat outside, we had to wait a long time for our drinks; the side salad arrived before the drinks. Regarding the side salad: they're prepared on the counter, meaning the plates can sit there for a long time, causing the salad to soak. I think we were just unlucky overall; the pork knuckle we ordered was sold out, and the roast beef we ordered instead was served with red cabbage instead of the bacon and cabbage salad. We always had to wait a long time for the drinks we ordered later, probably because we were sitting outside and thus a bit out of sight. I had no problems with the food, but my partner got a stomachache at night and started vomiting. Whether it was from the food or not, I can't say for sure. As I said, I think we were just unlucky, but that's to be expected in such a tourist magnet.

A super nice restaurant run by a couple of friendly ladies. The food was delicious and plentiful, and even during rush hour, we got a great table for the three of us and our dog. We ordered Grainauer Kasspatzn (cheese sparrows), beef in a spiced broth, and a salad with turkey strips. The portions were perfectly generous, even for a man who usually takes care of a small family alone. The Kasspatzn came with a side salad, and the beef was accompanied by a homemade potato salad with cucumbers. Top quality and super delicious. The turkey strips get a star – they were a bit stringy. The only significant deduction was that they didn't offer water for the dog – but there were water bowls at the reserved seats. Overall, though, I highly recommend it and definitely won't be the last time I'll be there. 🙏🏻🫶🏼

In our opinion, this is one of the best restaurants in Grainau. The food has been consistently high quality over the years, and the portion sizes are generous. You'll definitely be full for a small price! The team around Moni and Renate is always friendly and helpful. However, during peak season, you won't be able to get in without a reservation. If you want to eat here, you should definitely make a reservation by phone or online. Highly recommended! 😊

First of all, important information: EC card payments are accepted! It was so great and so delicious. A typical Bavarian restaurant. We didn't have a reservation and were just lucky that the landlady saved a table for us for an hour. She was very kind and really made sure she had something for everyone. I had the Spatzen Pfandl (I think that's how it was spelled): pork fillet with a delicious sauce, vegetables, and cheese spaetzle, and I was completely stuffed afterward. It was delicious. I would have loved to have some more cake, but I was sooo full 😂. My partner had the ham hock with fried dumplings and dark sauce with onions. It was his first time trying ham hock, and he loved it too. Thanks again to the whole team. And remember, tips can only be given in cash, so feel free to accept cash as a tip 😇

We always enjoy coming here whenever we're in the area. The food and the portions are unbeatable. We recommend making a reservation (especially if you're with more than two people). Online reservations are also very easy; responses are prompt. We usually manage to find a spot. The owner is very friendly and always on top of things. The kitchen must be perfectly organized, given the speed with which orders are prepared. We're already looking forward to the next time, whenever that may be. Best wishes from Hesse.

We were here on vacation and discovered this restaurant through a friend who had been there before. It's worth every penny! The portions are huge and the food was excellent. My wife had asparagus soup and salmon, and I treated myself to a rump steak in pepper sauce – everything was delicious. We went there two days in a row and even celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary (our "💒 day") here. Many thanks to the entire team for the great service – we'll definitely be back! IMPORTANT: No reservation, no chance!

Full restaurant, no matter what day or time. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to sit at a slightly larger table with another couple, which was completely fine with us. The atmosphere was great, the waitresses were friendly and the food was delicious. The only negative point: the fries were too crispy for us personally.

I have to recommend this restaurant to you. The food tastes so good 👌. I've been in Bavaria for 10 years, it's the best schnitzel I've ever eaten. You never said it was pork. It's such nice soft meat, it melts in your mouth like butter 🧈. I always like to come back. The knuckle also tastes great 💜💜
