Spatenhaus at the opera in München

Aside from its ideal location right in the city center, Spaten an der Oper has maintained consistently good quality for years, which isn't a given considering the thousands of customers who visit daily. Therefore, kudos and keep it up! But the prices really shouldn't get any higher! 🙈🙈🙈

The ambiance is sophisticated and very pleasant. The service is friendly and efficient. The food was excellent; the prices are on the higher side, but reasonable for what is offered.

We ate as a group on the ground floor, but the service staff was rude and muttered almost as if they wanted us to leave. As we were leaving, the waiter even said, "What a group," even though we hadn't behaved inappropriately in any way. An hour before the official closing time, he was already changing his clothes and indicating that it was time for us to leave. We absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant.

A place for sophisticated tetra lovers, definitely not a beer place.

Great lunch with family in this classic restaurant. Beautiful place, its like history. We ordered the classics schnitzel (with mostaza) and sides. Everything was good. Nothing to highlight! Oh yes, make a reservation to go.

We enjoyed a lovely meal in a very pleasant setting. The waiter was very helpful and kind until it came time to pay. He felt that the €7 tip (+/- 5%) wasn't enough, complained, and then stopped speaking to us. When we confronted him about his reaction, he explained that an 8-10% tip was customary. Unfortunately, this negative experience and his behavior have stayed with us, and it's a reason for me not to return.

When I arrived there with my German customer, the restaurant told me they can't find my booking. It was very embarrassing in front of my customer. They told me to check with downstairs but I was sure I did not make the mistake. I did not have any choice so I checked with the restaurant in downstairs. They were very kind and helpful, They tried to find the table for me and provided me the great service and foods. I did give them the big tips because they deserve. Guess what I received text message and eamil from patenhaus an der Oper (fine dining) OG one day later and informed me to go there on 6th of Dec. What the ridicules. I think this place is delicious! It's quiet and clean. I've also been to the famous HB Royal Brasserie. The service here is excellent, and the food is delicious. Highly recommended! Aesthetically beautiful, the atmosphere is more elegant than other historic Munich pubs. Our experience wasn't the best in terms of service. We showed up around 6:00 PM, a group of four, wanting just a beer to try the Spaten. We were told we could only have a meal, so we were invited to leave. At another nearby pub, however, they let us sit without eating, even though it was almost dinner time. However, when we returned around 11:00 PM, they let us sit and drink the much-needed beer. Final verdict: nothing special; the other "sister" pubs in Munich are much better.

Well, the prices were top-notch, but the quality was not so great. We had dinner with guests from the USA in the ground floor area, and neither of us was particularly impressed. The service was okay, the waiters were quite friendly and attentive. The four different dishes we ordered could have been had at this quality for 30% less. It's a shame... about 20 years ago, after the opera (we had a subscription), we came here often and were usually very satisfied.

A complete letdown — a stain on the hospitality industry. The staff here are shockingly rude across the board. Even the guy running a food truck 150 meters away shows more professionalism and basic manners than the so-called servers here — and I say that as a woman who simply expected decent treatment. Dropping the bill while I’m still eating? The bill I did not ask for, the table was not booked for anyone else and no one was waiting for it!? That’s not just unprofessional, it’s insulting. I had planned to order more, but that ended the experience for me. It’s a real shame for the kitchen — the food is genuinely excellent. Tell the chef his work deserves far better than to be delivered by people who completely sour the experience.

A typical Munich guesthouse, with a rustic ambiance and a menu that offers no surprises. Very friendly staff, and despite being very busy, the service was quick and friendly. We got a seat after a short wait, without a reservation.

We went to Spatenhaus for the first time yesterday. I ordered the roast pork with dark beer sauce and red cabbage for €24. Of course, I expected something for that price, but honestly, I've eaten much better roast pork (for much less money). The sauce was anything but dark beer sauce; it was very light brown and tasteless. The dumplings were as small as ice cream balls... The red cabbage was delicious. Unfortunately, the crust was also inedible; it wasn't cracked crusts, but simply glazed, hard skin. A real shame...

We ordered a herring fillet. It arrived with the fin on it. 🤔🤔 It was a bit unappetizing, and also quite expensive at almost €24. A slice of Leberkäse without a side dish at €13 was also a bit too expensive.

An evening at the Spatenhaus at the Opera is always a delight – but this year's Kirchweih menu truly surpassed everything. The oven-fresh Kirchweih goose was perfectly prepared: crispy on the outside, buttery tender and juicy on the inside. The mugwort sauce rounded off the dish wonderfully – robust, aromatic, and delicately seasoned. The glazed chestnuts and the apple red cabbage, which with its slight sweetness provided a wonderful contrast, deserve special mention. The melted potato dumplings were fluffy and perfectly cooked – a dream! The wine recommendation – the 2020 Cuvée Ursprung from the Markus Schneider winery – was also an excellent match: robust, elegant, and harmonious with the goose dish. The service was, as you would expect from the Spatenhaus, attentive, warm, and professional, and the ambiance was elegantly Bavarian with great attention to detail. Despite the full house, a relaxed atmosphere prevailed, and you could feel that tradition and quality are truly lived here. An absolute highlight of the season – both culinary and atmospheric. If you're lucky enough to still get the Kirchweih goose, you definitely shouldn't miss it! Conclusion: Tradition meets perfection – the Spatenhaus demonstrates once again why it's one of Munich's best addresses.

It was no surprise at all; the waiter brought a basket of pretzels and didn't explain the extra charge, not even mentioning the 20% service charge already included. He simply disappeared and didn't return the €4.00 change. We felt cheated, and his behavior was quite dishonest. I won't be back.

We spent a week traveling around Germany, and the crowning glory was the Spatenhaus by the Opera. Years ago, I used to go to Munich twice a year for the good food and was so happy to find what I remembered. Unfortunately, I was immensely disappointed. The quality of the food was simply dismal. The buttered spaetzle were probably just boiled in water; absolutely tasteless. The roast was also poor quality. The risotto tartar as an appetizer was tasteless. Something has changed here ("new" management?), and anyone who remembered it from before should save themselves the disappointment and the money. The service was also a bit snippy at first. But then it calmed down and was okay. Personally, I'm incredibly disappointed with the quality, and it's absolutely not what it used to be. What a shame!

Hot meals served all day, a beautiful view of the opera on the upper floor, ambitious prices, and fine cuisine.

The food was good, the atmosphere was nice, the staff were attentive, but I didn't find anything exceptional for the price.

We were at the Spatenhaus yesterday, a really nice place in itself. Unfortunately, it's apparently not allowed to play cards there. We weren't there long; it wasn't crowded, and we behaved nicely and not loudly. If etiquette demands it, then that's fine. But when there are mice running around the floor, it's a bit incomprehensible that you're not allowed to play cards in a beer hall. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I can't recommend it.

Oh, come on! We were out at 9 p.m. The restaurant was half empty, and we wanted to have a few beers during Oktoberfest. The waiter almost threw us out because we were only allowed to stay with our food. Never again!

Unfortunately, it was below cafeteria standards (except for the price). The roast pork certainly wasn't a happy organic pig back in the day; the sauce was suspiciously instant, the dumplings were nothing more than average, and the red cabbage (?with the roast pork?) was too sweet and overcooked. The meatballs were probably a bit better, but they weren't a revelation either.

The Kuffler at the Spatenhaus Restaurant in the city is highly recommended! The food is very fresh and delicious, the portions are generous and beautifully presented. I particularly liked the cozy atmosphere – you immediately feel welcome. Another highlight was the live music, which created a really good atmosphere without being too loud. The service was friendly and attentive; we were served quickly and always felt like we were in good hands. Overall, a great place to spend a pleasant evening with friends or family. I'll definitely be back!

Well, this restaurant has three advantages: location, location, location... Heavy prices, service staff only moderately attentive, and if you're vegetarian/vegan, you're out of luck: The kitchen staff were punished by having to eat the Gröschtl themselves for a week... A careless use of leftovers: dry dumplings with egg... and a salad (the highlight). For €20!!! - that's something to be taken for granted.

Eight years ago, I gave it 5 stars and wrote, "Best schnitzel in town. B-e-s-t-e-s!" Today, I'm sad to say that you can get everything here except a good schnitzel - despite the insane price. Greasy fried potatoes Mushy, limp lamb's lettuce Flat schnitzel that looks like it came from a freezer or a deep fryer, and definitely wasn't prepared by a chef who'd ever been taught how to "soufflé" Everything carelessly piled onto a plate that has fingerprints and streaks of grease.

I visited Spatenhaus an der Oper and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The first thing that stands out is its prime location right next to the Opera House, offering beautiful views and an elegant atmosphere. The restaurant has a classic Bavarian interior with a touch of sophistication, making it a cozy yet refined place to sit, whether indoors or outdoors. Service was great — the staff are professional, friendly, and attentive to details. What I enjoyed most was the overall ambiance; calm, classy, and truly authentic to Munich’s charm. That's a high compliment, considering that the main ingredient of every dish is the arrogance that hangs in the air. In the overall experience, the food takes a backseat, a very distant second. Service: ★★★★★ (If only there were a minus scale) Ah, the true jewel in the crown! The staff is a team of experienced, venerable masters of the art of evasion and involuntary blindness. Their game of "Who am I here?" is absolutely Oscar-worthy. As soon as the waiters sense that your hunger is limited solely to thirst (e.g., beer), you are immediately subjected to advanced training in the art of invisibility. They stare at the ceiling, the walls, their reflections in the glass—everywhere but at you. It's a remarkably effective diet: after 20 minutes of hand-waving, you lose the desire to eat or drink. This is the best Bavarian food in Munich. I’ve tried almost all and this is the number 1 spot for me. The only reason it doesn’t have 5 stars from everyone is because of the price but I don’t care. It is so good once ate there 3 times in 1 day. Also love the atmosphere inside. Must try items: Wiener Schnitzel Schweinshaxe Ente Kaiserschmarrn

Shitty food. From the microwave. The duck must have starved to death. The rosemary potatoes had nothing to do with rosemary. The side dishes came after the meal. RUDENESS And the best part was the restaurant manager's statement, "He doesn't want to work anymore anyway, his employees keep leaving, and he's permanently understaffed." But he doesn't care if anyone complains because the owners don't care anyway.

It has the usual atmosphere of Bavarian beer houses, the beer is good, the service is friendly. The brand is intertwined with the city, you have to try it.

A complete mess! We sat down; less than 10 tables were occupied, everything was empty. The waiter said it was dinner time, and if we didn't want to eat, we should go somewhere else.

Being greeted with the words "if you don't want anything to eat, you'll have to leave" isn't exactly friendly. There were practically no tables occupied. Nevertheless, it was pointed out that you had to eat there. Simply drinking a beer in a "brewery" is probably not enough.

It’s a tourist place no doubt about it, but the location is just right in front of the opera house so makes it easy and convenient. The service was good, typical german but in English. The food was good, nothing to complain. Their Kaiserschmarn though was the best I’ve ever had, and I’m not talking just soft chewy pancake like sweet but legit crust as well. So for that I give it a 5 Hahhaha

We're very satisfied and enjoy coming back again and again. Our favorite order here is the veal Wiener schnitzel. Highly recommended. The only thing that always makes you feel bad about going to the restaurant is the feeling of having to go to the bathroom. When you walk in, you're greeted warmly, and when you leave, you get a dirty look because you didn't have any change. In my opinion, there's a lack of sensitivity. As a paying customer in a restaurant, I shouldn't feel bad about not having any change. Please come up with something for the future.

The restaurant has a menu for the upper and one for the lower level. The one for the upper level is a bit more varied and refined. We had a reservation on the first floor. The seating here is very nice and quiet, so you can have a good conversation even at a large table. Particularly noteworthy: the service was friendly, quick, and very competent. We were very satisfied with our meals, especially the dishes with the seasonally fresh chanterelle mushrooms, which are excellent. I find the cover charge of €3.90 per person somewhat questionable. Could this be because the very high prices (€6.20 for a beer) mean too little tipping? However, the table is elaborately set and comes with a bread basket, butter, and spread. The prices are, as mentioned above, very high, but you know that beforehand and don't have to go. I would go back; it is truly something special. Authentic Bavarian cuisine is very well executed here, and there are also good options for vegetarians. The beers are all fresh from the tap and delicious.

A really good restaurant but it does have its price but it's still worth it.

Apple strudel, a small portion with a scoop of ice cream, costs €15.50. It couldn't be more expensive. It didn't even taste good. Here in the Palatinate, you can get it for €5.70, including whipped cream and vanilla sauce.

In my opinion, the prices are too high, even for a Munich brewery. €6.20 for a half liter of beer – and the glass is (significantly) not filled to the mark twice in a row? I can only advise against it.

What can I say? If you like traditional German food, this is the place for you. The beer is top-notch, as always, followed by meatballs with a cognac reduction and killer pepper... And to finish, a Kaiserschmarrn with apple compote. To be made over and over again.

There was mold on my rye bread?? Got something new, but you still have a feeling whether the rest is okay.. I don't recommend their tartar, was it strong? We ordered pork shank and potatoes, the shank was okay, but not worth the money! The potatoes were like jelly, it wasn't delicious. In total we ended up with 900kr, for a meal of bad food and an upset stomach the next day. I don't recommend eating here.

Spatenhaus offers very good German fare in a really nice setting. Service was very good as well.

Five of us, including our toddler, were at the restaurant that evening. The service was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our dietary requests were catered to, especially for our little one—and everyone enjoyed everything we were served. What's particularly noteworthy, however, is the truly fantastic child-friendly service, something we've only experienced abroad before.

One of the best restaurants and the outdoor seating is beautiful.
