Augustiner am Platzl in München

Amazing place, the service was fast, we were on a limited break and Liu promised us fast service and they did, he recommended some nice dishes and accommodated our dietary requirements carefully, a must for future visits to Munich's old town.

We were here for the first time on June 4, 2025, and we have no complaints. The service was prompt, and we quickly had a nice, good Edelstoff to drink. The manager even stopped by our table and took time for a chat; it was very pleasant. We'd be happy to come back.

We made the mistake of going to Hofbräuhaus across the street and then corrected that mistake by going here, Augustiner am Platzl, for dessert and beer. This is great authentic German Bavarian food! We had a fantastic waiter who spoke English for our non-German speakers, he returned with orders quickly, and he had a great attitude! He brought us upstairs which was much less crowded and more comfortable. Prices were typical, not super expensive. Food was delicious, drinks were phenomenal, atmosphere was authentic. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time and would 100% come back!

At our table, three people had the pretzel and spinach dumplings with tomato-coated lentils, which were extremely oversalted. We didn't send them back, but we didn't finish them, and at the end we reported that the dish was oversalted. The waiter didn't respond and didn't apologize. What a pity.

I tried to eat at the Hofbräuhaus across the street, but it was super crowded and the staff seemed overwhelmed, so I ended up coming here instead. Turns out, this place made my trip so good. The food and beer were awesome, but what really made it great was the friendly and considerate staff.

We had a convivial evening here. Live music (probably a rare event) and locals in traditional costume. It was a lovely evening with delicious beer.

A wonderful, delicious restaurant. Very atmospheric! You can eat very well here. Large portions and a very friendly atmosphere. Honestly, I was surprised that going to a restaurant in Bavaria is cheaper than visiting a restaurant in Schleswig-Holstein or Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A huge advantage of this place is the service! The order was taken by a very nice, funny waiter who chatted with us, joked for a while, and also suggested a photo. I felt well served and looked after by the waiter. You can see that he cares about his guests! They pack uneaten dishes to go without a problem. Menu available in German and English.

Very rustic, typically Bavarian inn, great, very friendly service. The food was a dream; I've never eaten such a delicious roast pork before, and the portion was generous enough to fill you up. I'll definitely be back.

Had the pork knuckle and Dunkel beer on May 28, 2025—absolutely delicious! The pork was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the beer paired beautifully with it. Big shoutout to Lukas, our server, who was incredibly friendly and attentive. His warm hospitality really made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

The beer is very good, and the food was good too. The knuckle of pork with the dark sauce is highly recommended, although the dumplings are a bit rubbery. The Obazda (traditional Bavarian sausage) is also sturdy!

Nice old restaurant with decent prices

The food and the restaurant were great. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Rude comments, it took forever for us to order, and we weren't treated like guests. Simply terrible service. Otherwise, the food and beer are, of course, good.

A typical Munich brewery restaurant. Fast and friendly service despite full dining. The food is down-to-earth, basic, and reasonably priced. The Augustiner am Platzl fits perfectly into the Munich city center dining scene without making you feel like you're sitting in tourist class. Sure, it's crowded, but it exudes a Munich charm. A good alternative to the machinery of the Hofbräuhaus.

Highly recommended. The food was excellent. The schnitzel was large, very tender, and incredibly flavorful. I can also recommend the roast pork with dumplings and coleslaw. On Mondays at lunchtime, a 0.5-liter beer is included for just under €18.

The roast pork was reserved after about 30 seconds. There was an awful lot of meat. There was something that looked like crispy pork roast skin. About 5x5 cm in size. It was a separate dish for the roast pork. The fat on the roast pork itself was absolutely mushy and not crispy. The dumplings and the sauce were mediocre at best for my taste. The coleslaw was okay. The beer was delicious. Overall, for someone looking forward to a delicious, authentic Bavarian roast pork, this was a huge disappointment.

A lovely Bavarian pub, but unfortunately there are artificial flowers on the tables. Other pubs have flower or herb pots, which is out of date!

Sono stata in questo locale per cena e posso dire che si è rilevato il miglior locale in cui sono stata a Monaco! Cibo e birra ottimi, proporzionati alla spesa sostenuta: 38,80 € in due- senza mancia che è stata richiesta. Il locale è molto ampio, tipica atmosfera tedesca, tempi di attesa breve se si vuole condividere il tavolo con altri. Abbiamo preso: - Salcicce alla griglia con crauti, rafano fresco e pane contadino: 9 pezzi € 16,90 davvero ottime - Leberkas ("pagnotta di fegato" con insalata tiepida di patate: non è fegato anche se si chiama così, è un polpettone di carne di manzo e maiale trita molto compatto con spezie € 12,50 era davvero un piattone enorme e buonissimo! Ci ha davvero affascinati! La radle da 0,5 l (€4,60) invece era spettacolare, la migliore bevuta ed ho assaggiato anche la dunkles da 0,5 l ( 4,80) molto buona. Sicuramente per la quantità/ prezzo molto consigliato, con piatto si cena egregiamente. Mi ha solo infastidito la mancia richiesta, l'unico dove le tip ci sono state chieste. Mi sono documentato e non capisco la presenza in bagno degli addetti alle pulizie , che chiedono la mancia, questo in un locale privato non lo comprendo.

Selten kommt es vor, dass ich nichts zu mosern habe. Hier ist es der Fall. Allein von der Optik her ist das Augustiner am Platz schon so wie man es sich vorstellt: gemütlich, urig, dunkle Möbel, schöne Aufteilung der Räumlichkeiten. Die Bedienung, die für unseren Tisch verantwortlich war (ein etwas korpulenter Herr :-) ) hätte man am liebsten zum Anheizen in jeder Runde. Was für ein uriger Kerl !!! Auf ein Getränk wartet man keine zwei Minuten, das Essen (Schweinshaxe) dauerte gefühlt auch grade mal fünf Minuten, wenn überhaupt. Kaum hatte man ausgetrunken stand ein neues Bier da (Super !!!). Das essen selbst war klasse. Eine Schweinshaxe in dunkler Soße + Knödel + einem selbstgemachten Krautsalat. Alles 5 Sterne. Augustiner ist sowieso lecker. Alle viertel Stunde rollt jemand ein neues Fass vorbei (allein diese Szenerie verdient schon eine extra Erwähnung!) !!! Eigentlich will man da gar nicht mehr raus. Preise sind absolut in Ordnung und für München schon fast niedrig. Würde ich nicht drei Stunden von München entfernt wohnen, wäre ich Stammgast (was für meine Figur verheerend wäre :-) ). Augustiner am Platz: Ich bin euer Fan !!!

Excellent food. We had some sausages and a schnitzel that were perfect. The potato salad is great. Our waiter was kind and professional. The location is great next to Marienplatz. What I enjoyed was that German people were here too and not only tourists. A definitely must do in Munich.

The food was not great and the prices are very expensive. I also came across a table of young people who were making noise and disturbing the people at the tables and the waiters were not paying attention to them.

Rip off!! They wanted to serve me a 0.4l wine spritzer in a slightly more filled 0.2l glass, the 2cl schnapps was filled to a little below the calibration mark and a slightly older waiter shooed me out of the way in an unfriendly and somewhat aggressive manner.

The food was plentiful and very good. Requests for diabetics were taken into account and the food was changed accordingly. As always, the waiters and waitresses were friendly and in a good mood. We don't need to talk about the beer - the best beer in Munich.

Today we wanted to go out for dinner with 4 people at the Augustiner am Platzl. Since some dark clouds had already gathered, we preferred to choose an indoor location. We sat at the table for at least 20 minutes with both the menu open and the menu closed. 4 (!) waiters, all of whom had next to nothing to do (the restaurant was almost empty inside, around 8 tables were occupied outside), consistently ignored us. They kept looking over at us, but no one felt responsible. We have never been treated like this in a restaurant in the last 50 years. We then left and went straight to the Hofbräuhaus. It was pretty full there, but the friendly waiters quickly found a seat for us. 3 minutes later the drinks were ordered and delivered promptly. The meal went just as quickly. To be clear. We're not whiners. If the service is overloaded, for example if it is very busy or understaffed...then we are happy to wait and understand. Today we were given the cold shoulder. Makes us feel unwanted. That perhaps also explains why the Augustiner was so empty and the Hofbräuhaus was so full...

A disappointment. It shines with reflected light from the famous brewery opposite. The food is plentiful but mediocre. The schnitzel was the worst I have ever eaten. A 75cl bottle of water costs almost €7. Courteous and quick service

We had a wonderful time eating there. The food was amazing and the portions were huge!! Everything was OK, the waiter was also nice and friendly. But everything ruined when it was time to pay and the waiter said ‘this is the bill and if you like to give me tips, I will be happy’. And I didn’t give him tips and suddenly his face was changed and his attitude as well. Such a shame because tips is not mandatory right? And the food also nice, the place also pretty and clean. And we left the restaurant with a bit not certain feeling because in one side i feel sorry for the waiter and the other side we spent already a lot for the ticket, visa, and everything so everything felt already expensive. Despite the waiter attitude, everything was perfect!!! We ordered 3 meals and also 3 limonades if i am not wrong. The drink was unique and perfect for neutralize the food. The pork knuckle, pork shoulder, and the sausage was delicious! My favorite was the cabbage salade. It was refreshing and unique! Recommended

This is with no doubt one of the best helles beers you can take but the personnel at the Brauerei is extremely awful, we enter in the local and their policy it’s make the people wait on the street, while it was a lot space available inside. I will suggest to go to the hb haus just in the corner and get Augustiner in the supermarket.

The food was quite good, although I have to say that the cheese spaetzle was too mushy. The best thing about the cheese spaetzle was the onions. Service..... Well. There is still plenty of room for improvement. At first we were very attentive, but after the empty plates were cleared away, we were no longer paid any attention. We actually wanted a second beer, but not like that. It's really a shame because it's actually quite quaint.

We were here on a Tuesday evening. Without a reservation we wouldn't have gotten a seat... incredibly well attended. And rightly so... Mega tasty pork knuckle, value for money too. Very nice staff despite the stress. The only point of criticism: the Aperol is very cheap at €7.50... but it's very thin... it's stretched and colored water and hardly tastes like Aperol. So it's better not to order!!

Great shed – it was really fun! The highlight was the orchestra that played there. Everyone danced, everyone drank – even the Chinese joined in the celebration. So really: everyone was there! The food was excellent, and the wonderful Augustiner beer – simply classic. We personally had pork with some sauerkraut and dumplings. Yummy!
