Augustiner am Platzl in München

The Augustiner is very much geared towards walk-up customers, 75% of whom are international. The food gets a 5 out of 10. The staff tries hard to compensate for any mistakes that happen. However, the beer is very tasty.

The food looks good but , we waited almost an hour for a salad. And a little after that they told us we had to get up.

After waiting 20 minutes without a server coming, we asked the staff. The only response we received was: "I'm not your waiter!" We got up and left.

A great place for lunch or dinner. It's a very typical beer hall here in Munich; there are several around the city. The service is fantastic, and the food is delicious. The best schnitzel I've ever had, and the fries were amazing too. Everything was superb—a 10 out of 10!

Skip the tourist trap H house across the street and stop in here for a proper German meal in a cozy environment with great service! Ivan, our server, was the best! Personable and helpful! Best spot and best service in town!

Bavarian restaurant in the heart of Munich. Good prices and generous portions. The chicken we ordered was tasty and tender. Our only complaint is that the waiter was a bit rushed, in our opinion. He arrived immediately and asked us for a drink, and within two minutes he was back to take our order. Otherwise, highly recommended.

For an Augustiner beer, the noise level in the restaurant was very pleasant, allowing for easy conversation. The food we ordered was delicious. The price-performance ratio is also excellent!

Unfortunately, we didn't get anything. The others were asked what they wanted to drink. We weren't. It might have been because it was packed. It was too loud for us anyway.

Unfortunately, the wait was very long. The pork knuckles weren't served until everyone else at the table had finished eating. The waiter spoke negatively about the vegan dishes on the menu. A real shame.

Almost directly opposite the Hofbräuhaus, but much quieter; you can actually sit down at a table in peace and the staff is friendly. The food is at least as good, and the beer is just as good. So go here instead of across the street.

I’ve had dozens of pork knuckles in Munich over the years and I am sorry to say this is the only one I couldn’t finish. Incredibly dry, some parts completely inedible. Shame because the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and I like the other Augustiner locations. I told the waiter, he looked at me like I’d insulted his family.

Attended during Oktoberfest and had just a wonderful experience. Very prompt and friendly service and was quickly seated. Food was delicious and had large portions. The beer was always made available and never had to ask for a refill. Will definitely be visiting again when back in the city.

You'd be hard-pressed to find service like this anywhere. Friendly and observant, even though the guy from Saxony wasn't familiar with Bavarian beers. 😱🤪 He gave advice right away. 👍🏻 You order and before you know it, the beer's there and he's given great advice. You order the food and it arrives in record time. I've never been so pleasantly surprised. I still have two days of vacation left, and well, I think I'll go back again.

Wow. As a Munich resident, I love going out – but I haven't experienced such excellent service in a long time. Our waiter, Sven, was a perfect host. We felt very well taken care of!

After 20days in Germany I can relate its the worst restaurant experience Ive ever had in my life, bad food, bad drinks. Rude waiters and the manager aswell. Made me pay without even finishing my beer. Never coming back

Friendly welcome, got a table right away. The price was reasonable. Serving the appetizer and main course simultaneously wasn't very practical, in my opinion. The food quality was good. The bar service was not up to par. I didn't order either ice cream or foam, and neither did the numerous people at the next table with whom I spoke. Apparently, it's customary here to overfill glasses with foam. I gave the restroom attendant a small tip, mentioning that the bin was overflowing with paper towels. I'll be going back to the main restaurant in the future. Everything is perfect there.

We visited the Augustinerbräu am Platzl at the beginning of December 2024. Despite the Christmas market season, we got a table immediately and received traditional Bavarian service, just like I remember from my time in Munich. The food is great, and the beer is fantastic. I highly recommend this pub.

I was invited to dinner at Augustiner am Platzl by one of our suppliers. The location is practically in the heart of the tourist center, which usually makes me quite uneasy, as I've often been disappointed by restaurants in other cities, receiving little value for money...and Augustiner am Platzl proves that you can be wrong. Our host had reserved a table, and before we could even sit down, a slightly quieter (larger) table became available, and we were asked if we'd like to take it, which we gladly accepted. After a short while, we were given the menus. Yes, restaurant prices have definitely gone up – but what I saw was okay for me...except for the price of the currywurst (which I wasn't planning on ordering anyway). I ordered the classic roast pork in beer sauce with two dumplings and coleslaw for €17.90. This was ordered again, then the Munich schnitzel and the Wiener schnitzel. I ordered a light beer beforehand (0.5l €4.60 - price corrected!). The drinks arrived, and we had time to chat while our food came. As I said, I wasn't expecting much and was very pleasantly surprised! A large plate arrived at my table with some truly rustic pieces of roast, a great crust, and two dumplings, along with a coleslaw in a separate bowl. It was a really generous portion, so you don't have to worry about leaving hungry. The roast was tender, the crust amazing, the dumplings were just dumplings, as was the coleslaw, and all in all, it was a really well-rounded, hearty meal. I didn't take any pictures this time; it would have been strange in that situation. The other plates were also very full, and we only received positive feedback from our group. The staff was very attentive, quick, and friendly, just as you'd hope. At Augustiner am Platzl, I felt like a welcome guest, not a one-time cash cow to be exploited. A very positive experience.

Had the best time at Augustiner. The food was delicious and the overall ambience was amazing. Ordered their famous Original Augustiner Rotisserie Chicken with potato salad and Beer. It was just too good.

We had a great meal and drinks. The portions were generous, and the prices were really good. Our only complaint was about the bar, but it was resolved without any fuss. We'd gladly come back here again.

We were there one afternoon. Our table was served immediately, and the waitress was generally friendly. The beer was, of course, delicious, as one would expect from Augustiner. Now for the unusual part: I have very rarely, in all my numerous restaurant visits, had to send food back. It not only tasted completely uninspired, but also not fresh at all. Unfortunately, it's become standard practice in Bavarian cuisine these days to be served pre-prepared food. But this place really took it to another level: cold, tasteless, no seasoning, bland aftertaste, etc. When we pointed this out, they completely ignored us. We won't be returning and will instead go to the Hofbräuhaus next door.

My key review is on the service , do not go to this place if you expect hospitality. Waiters can be rude and if you ask any questions be ready to get snapped. Although the food can be rated a bit better than the service , has vegetarian options and beer is a must try

The food was very good! I just love it here, so I give everything five stars.

A rustic, typical restaurant. The food is really good, and the service was friendly and quick. You might want to ask if there's live music that evening, because while the music is appropriate and nice, it's also quite loud. If you want to have a conversation, it's a bit difficult. I can definitely recommend it; it was a lovely experience. It's very good value for money.

I tried Tafelspitz and dark bier there. Prices are high. Food and beer quality are average. Many better places around

Typical Bavarian food in a cool atmosphere, so if you're in Munich and craving something truly authentic, this is a great place to eat. You'll definitely be full, the service was friendly and attentive, and this is definitely a recommendation if you're in Munich and feeling hungry.

The beer was good, but the roasted pork was too dry and the sauce too salty. The best part was the sauerkraut. The dessert was just average.

Stopped at Augustiner am Platzl on a Saturday night for a drink before dinner. Place was packed, but we were lucky enough to secure at table next to the bar. The service was excellent, and it was interesting to watch the servers pour the beer at such a fast and high rate. Really enjoyed our short time here.

We originally went to the restaurant across from Augustiner am Platzl (Hofbräuhaus), but had such a bad experience with the rude staff there that we decided to leave — and I’m so glad we did! We ended up at Augustiner am Platzl and immediately felt the difference. Our waiter, Paul, was incredible — so polite, professional, friendly, and incredibly fast. He completely turned our day around and gave us the best customer experience we could’ve hoped for. The service here truly makes all the difference. I’ll absolutely be back — not just for the food and atmosphere, but because of the amazing service. Thank you, Paul!

The food is very good. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you want to eat inside, you have to make a reservation. If you go without a reservation, it's outside only.

Tourist Trap! Good draft beer! Schnitzel is avoidable, over fried and heavily oily, lumpy coating. Fish is average, mashed potato is lumpy and not French style smooth! Over all an over priced tourist trap, sorry to say that we would not come back!

I visited for a beer and dessert. The place has a truly authentic and historic feel. I wasn't able to eat because I was so full, but I did have a wonderful Agustiner Dunkelden and an apple strudel. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I'll be back for a bite to eat next year when I'm back for Oktoberfest.

Excellent dinner! We were immediately welcomed and seated despite the restaurant being packed. The service was excellent and fast, and the waitress was very knowledgeable. The food was excellent, especially considering the price. The only flaw was perhaps the excessive sauce on the curry sausages. We were very happy with the evening!

I can only agree with many of the previous speakers. I was very pleasantly surprised. We actually just wanted to stop for a quick beer at lunch and asked if that was okay. The waiter was super friendly and very witty. So we immediately asked if it would be possible to reserve a table for the evening. No sooner said than done, the reservation was made. When we returned in the evening, one of the waiters recognized us immediately and booked us a great seat on the upper floor, right by the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pedestrian zone. Another fun conversation with the waiter and the recommendation for the beer from the wooden barrel, which was a very good one. The food (1x pork knuckle with dumplings and 1x meatball with potato salad) was also very tasty. Overall, I can recommend the Augustiner without hesitation and have already done so to friends.

Very poor service here. Very disappointed. Arrived to have a drink with my husband. The waiter downstairs told us to go upstairs. The waiter upstairs told us we would have to wait for a table. We said OK. Meanwhile 2 groups of 3 people came in and sat down beside the bar. We were still standing waiting. When the waiter went past, we said we are still waiting, and those 6 people came in and sat down before us. He said "that's not fault!" and walked away. We told the waiter downstairs what happened. Not interested. Poor show. Poor attitude. Somewhere else got our money 🤷‍♀️

Food was good, but nothing wow, just regular

We visited the Augustiner am Platzl for dinner on Thursday. We received a warm welcome and got a good seat, right downstairs in the middle. Our waiter took our order quickly and very friendly. Delicious rustic cuisine. They still cook their own meals here. Our waiter (Dimcho) constantly asked how we were. Excellent service! We had 1/2 grilled chicken with potato salad, Wiener schnitzel (veal) with roasted potatoes, and grilled sausages with potato salad. Everything was simply delicious and perfectly reasonable in price. The Maß or half-liter beer was also great value for money and we thought it was delicious. Highly recommended 👍 👍 👍 👍

Have to say, the service people are really friendly and take good care of each customer in a nice way. Atmosphere is quite good, not so noisy, you can still talk when you eat or drink.

Finally, I got to eat the delicious pork knuckle as I wished. The skin was crispy and the meat was just right. The roast chicken was unexpectedly delicious. The gravy was fragrant when I took a bite. It was the best German restaurant I had in Munich.

I understand that it's Oktoberfest time and you're under a lot of stress, but politeness comes first. The waiter was extremely rude!

Despite having made a reservation and stating that we only wanted a drink, we were unfortunately constantly pressured to order something to eat. Our waiter kept making strange comments, which made our visit somewhat unpleasant. The furnishings and restrooms were ancient, and everything was unfortunately very worn. Bavarian and traditional charm can be found better elsewhere in Munich. So: a typical tourist trap and not for Munich residents. It ended for us when, without comment, a sign was placed on the table stating that the next reservation was for a short time later. Apparently, they wanted to get rid of us quickly. But we had already noticed that. We would have preferred them to have declined the reservation upfront, as they knew we only wanted a drink.

Anyone who comes here knows what they're getting, but today it's a no-brainer! Saving on the cheapest option: draft beer! Get a grip on this, it wasn't always like this!!!!

Great beer fun place and good service

Beautiful, excellent service, excellent dishes, even those enormous potato balls, which are beautiful to look at but are sticky, resulting in an incredible cork that falls down your esophagus, but you can definitely wash it down with a liter of beer. ;) The pork shank was excellent, and the pork ribs were wonderful, the best I've ever tasted. The fries were of excellent quality. Highly recommended.

Only tried the apple strudel here. Not a big fan of sausages so no clue about that here. Apple strudel was good, served with sauce and well layered. Service was great, but preferably call ahead to reserve a table if planning on going on a busy day.

We reserved a table well in advance and were really looking forward to it. The food and drinks were delicious. Then we were told that we would have to vacate the table after about two hours. Apparently, this was automatically communicated to us when we made the reservation, which is demonstrably not the case. The service was extremely rude and had no understanding of our displeasure. We had no reason to complain. A truly sad evening – never again at Augustiner am Platzl – I promise.

The three of us spontaneously got a seat around lunchtime. The menu features all sorts of typical Bavarian dishes. We opted for knuckle of pork and cheese spaetzle. The food was definitely decent and tasty. Since it's very centrally located, there are also a lot of tourists here.

This is a restaurant not a hotel. Convenient location slightly off the beaten path, just across the street from a famous beer hall. Friendly staff, good food. We ordered the curry wurst and the crispy pork. Careful with the crispy pork as the crispy bacon on top is crispy enough to break a tooth.

Here for Oktoberfest so take it from a yankee who is a bit tipsy. Food was good and service was superb. Cant give it the full 5 star but worth a meal!

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The server was unfriendly and even rude, which made the whole visit unpleasant. We also had to wait an extremely long time for our food, much longer than was acceptable. Unfortunately, it was a very bad experience – I certainly won't be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant.

It's okay to linger and have a beer. The beer tastes good. The food is okay, the pork knuckle is okay for tourists, but my taste buds were on strike 😂 The roulade, honestly, you can forget about the cabbage 🤔 It wasn't Bavarian cuisine, more like mass-produced cabbage, something 😂 I miss the dumplings. Every comment is important, it's edible! Despite everything, full marks because it was fun and the service was top-top-top.

The alcohol-free Augustiner is incredible!

I cannot recommend this restaurant. We experienced clear discrimination there – the waiter asked us to leave the table simply because we didn't order food immediately. We waited 40 minutes while other guests (without reservations) were admitted and served, but we were ignored the entire time. It was a very unpleasant and humiliating experience. Definitely not a place I would ever return to.

The waiter told us to leave the place because we wanted only beer without food. Extremely rude… Not to mention that we were ignored multiple times while waiting for the table and other people from the queue got the table immidiately. The place looked very nice and had a vibe. Very disappointing.

First, we had to wait 30 minutes before an employee could/wanted to take our order. Sure, the beer was amazing, but you don't need to come here for the food. The Wiener schnitzel was a complete disappointment. It was completely greasy, and the breading was practically dripping with fat on top of the extremely tough veal. The whole thing was completely unloved and of inferior quality. A true tourist stop. The location, however, is, of course, centrally located next to the Hofbräuhaus. We won't be coming back.

This was our first meal place in Munich when I had headache and nausea. The waiter was very helpful. Suggested us what to eat, introduced us Bavarian food. After all I ate the whole portion of pork knuckle 🤩 and started to feel much better afterwards

The turnover is high, so you'll have to eat quickly. It's a pressure-packed restaurant. The food isn't anything special.
