SOY in München

The food was delicious, and I'm happy about any restaurant that offers vegetarian/vegan dishes! However, we were told upon arrival that we could only reserve the table for 90 minutes (on a Wednesday). Fifteen minutes before the end of the table, we were asked if we wanted to order anything else. When we politely declined, we were immediately told to leave, saying they needed the table. We felt slightly ripped off. The prices are quite high, it's very dark and noisy. And, well, they only accept payment via PayPal and debit card? 😅 We won't be coming back again – what a shame.

I'm absolutely thrilled with Soy Vegan! It tasted delicious and was perfectly reasonable in price. If you don't necessarily need animal products for every meal, I would recommend eating here.

Amazing vegan food with great lunch menu!

Soy Vegan is a great vegan alternative to traditional Vietnamese (a traditionally meat-heavy food culture). Most of the dishes passed the test — evoking similar flavors and tastes to traditional Vietnamese food. The curry broths are good and rich, the noodle dishes are full of sauce and vegetables.

Very, very delicious food. I was particularly impressed by the vegan duck with a crispy crust. I come here often and have never been disappointed.

The Soy Vegan! Not exactly cheap, but the price doesn't matter when it comes to the quality and the taste explosion that you can experience. You can turn people into vegans with this food 😂 I've been there several times now and every time the food is great and relatively quick. If you go with two people there is a menu for two at the end of the menu which is awesome. I can definitely recommend it wholeheartedly.

Edit after 4 years: We're regulars! There are occasional problems with the debit card machine and you can only pay in cash, but the food is still top-notch. Unfortunately, the very good food (4.5 stars) is let down by the somewhat lousy service. :/ Due to the pandemic, they certainly had to cut some staffing levels; otherwise, it's hard to explain how only three waiters are supposed to manage a completely packed room with outdoor dining. Besides the fact that, in my opinion, the distance between some tables is far too small, and only select tables have sneeze guards. We were also served our food first, followed by our drinks. Although there was only a difference of maybe 5-8 minutes, that's still not acceptable from a restaurant perspective. After we finished eating, I ordered a second drink (soybean spirit; VERY tasty) - but it was completely overlooked. Paying also took a long time, as the waiters were only sporadically present when the restaurant was full (during the coronavirus pandemic!), and when we communicated that we wanted to pay, they didn't tell anyone. As I said, the food was very good – the homemade spring rolls were a dream, as was the soup (we ordered a 3-course meal for two people with a rice plate). Nevertheless, the service leaves a lot of room for improvement. I'll adjust the rating if necessary on a second visit, but despite the VERY GOOD food, I can't give it more than three stars.

Love love love the restaurant. I’d tried the lunch menu a long time ago and finally came back for dinner. Massive portions and very quick to pick up the order and we got the food super fast as well. The oyster mushroom filled into the tofu was heavenly and I’ll definitely come back to try other food options. The only minus is that they only take EC cards and not Mastercards. Which is a bit weird.

Good food, we had dinner here and slept well, although we still felt full in the morning (we had one dish and a hot tea, no gorging on multiple dishes). The service was quick and good, although when we asked for a few more minutes to decide, the waitress remained at the table waiting for us to make our decision. The place was still quite busy, with a strong smell of frying and a pervasive echo, but it was worth the price. They don't accept cards, only cash and PayPal.

We ordered the Rice Set 2. The food came out very quickly and was delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The only thing I would suggest is to make the indoor lighting a bit brighter.

- The two of us came here on a day trip to Munich. - The restaurant is easy to reach by public transport (Theresienstraße subway station). - We easily got a seat inside even though we didn't have a reservation (Tuesday, 7 p.m.). - The drinks were delicious (raspberry shake and Zen Garden, consisting of avocado, coconut milk, and pineapple juice), but a bit expensive. - We ordered dumplings for starters and hot pot for the main course. - The dumplings were good. Nothing special, but tasty. The sauce served with them was a bit spicy, which we both really liked. I don't have a high tolerance for spices and didn't find it too much, but perfect for a little kick. - The hot pot was fantastic. We were able to cook some mushrooms, bok choy, tomatoes, zucchini, tofu, and glass noodles ourselves. It already included soy chunks that were supposed to imitate meat. This was accompanied by a soy sauce and a peanut sauce that I would have loved to dig into. The soup was a bit spicy, but I thought it was perfectly fine and very tasty. We ordered a portion of rice to go with it, but we would have been completely full without it. The only annoying thing was the slippery glass noodles, but that's not the restaurant's fault. - The service was very friendly and quick. She even took our money during the meal because we were a bit pressed for time. - Please note: You can't currently pay by card here. However, they do offer PayPal.

I have been coming here since it opened. The food is okayish, but overpriced. Why I’m giving it 1 star is that they don’t take any cards other than the Germany exclusive EC card. I have brought this up with the management several times, but they stubbornly refuse to accept other cards. This is a goldmine, always full, and the owners have several restaurants in Munich. I was there yesterday, had to pay a €125 bill and had to pay cash, as my (German!) online bank doesn’t provide EC card. It’s insane and there is no excuse for it. You can’t pay the couple of cents in transaction fees on a €125 bill? That’s just being completely anti customer. I will not visit this place again.

Difficult to rate. Given the high prices, rude staff, relatively bland food, but nice decor and that it's always good to have vegan choices still giving this an average rating. Not providing card payment options (except local giro card) is backwards thinking and doesn't make sense economically. By now it should be well established that the opportunity costs of not providing (contactless) card payment are higher than the fees. That alone is the main reason I won't return and what leads me to giving this otherwise average place a more negative leaning review. Long: Vietnamese food is already heavy on vegetables and light on meat and seafood. Most vegan and vegetarian dishes are side dishes. At the heart of Vietnamese food is fish sauce. So it's pretty weird to me that patrons rate this as authentic. This is not an authentic place. But that's not a bad thing. It's a restaurant which aims to replicate authentic Vietnamese food in a vegan way. With these expectations set let's be real. It does not get close to any meat based dishes. Not because not having meat is bad, but because the unique balance of Vietnamese food is super difficult to replicate without fish sauce and meat based broth. Instead, most dishes rely on soy sauce and mushroom which completely changes the flavor profile. I think it's telling that for a, what people describe "authentic" place, there are not a lot of Vietnamese people. It's still a popular place. And it's packed. Every space is occupied and there is barely breathing room. The beautiful decor doesn't help. And I think maybe a bit too popular because the staff seems to be too reliant on tourists and non returning patrons. We observed the staff to be unattentive and outright rude (forgetting orders, no apologies, taking away platters which we didn't finish yet). This place would fare better if it would set different expectations. Instead of aiming to replicate Vietnamese food, it should market as a Vietnamese inspired fusion restaurant. On the good side, food presentation is top notch and if this is something you put a lot of emphasis on, it's worth visiting just for that. I am pretty sure that this also helped to "mask" the lack of taste. Note that the lunch menu is wildly different from their dinner menu, it's like a completely different place. Pretty much standard menu which you'd otherwise find in a Thai/"Asian" lunch place, just plant based.

Soy is a great, cash only vegan outlet with a fantastic atmosphere and quick, efficient service. The food is fantastic in taste and portion sizes. The local area is quite hip and welcoming, with lots of places around to get a drink or coffee too. Would absolutely recommend to visitors to the city.

Delicious vegan food at Soy Vegan in Munich We visited Soy Vegan in Munich for lunch and were completely satisfied. The food is fresh, aromatic, and purely plant-based – ideal for a relaxed lunch break. My partner had fried flat rice noodles with tofu, seitan, and fresh vegetables. Everything was well-seasoned: the vegetables were crunchy, the tofu tender, and the seitan pleasantly spicy. This was accompanied by a sweet and sour soup, which was included in the lunch menu. The soup was slightly spicy, with tomatoes, mushrooms, tamarind, and fresh herbs. Very harmonious and a nice start to the meal. I had fried udon noodles with fresh vegetables in a homemade sauce. The noodles were beautifully soft with a slight bite, the sauce had depth, and the vegetables were colorful and fresh. For my starter, I had a large summer roll with peanut sauce. The roll was neatly wrapped, well-filled, and, together with the creamy sauce, a real highlight. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was calm and pleasant. For a lunch menu, you really get a lot of quality at a fair price. Conclusion: Soy Vegan offers delicious, creative, and healthy food with an authentic Vietnamese flair, completely vegan and full of flavor. Highly recommended.
