Un vrai régal!les plats sont délicieux, assaisonnés parfaitement!il y a du choix! si nous étions restés plus de temps à Munich nous serions volontiers revenus!l'ambiance est très sympathique, le service est souriant et en plus rapide (avec une petite de 4 ans, cela a été fortement apprécié)!

As a Viet myself, I can confirm the authentic flavors of the dishes here. The prices might be on the higher end but you got the complete experience with great services, amazing desserts and also creative cocktails 🍸

Hier hat sich nach Corona irgendwie die Speisekarte und die Küche stark verändert Gerichte die früher bei mir einen „Wow Effekt“ hinterlassen haben sind heute nur noch okay Schade denn die hatten mehrere Vorspeisen die man sonst kaum wo anders so bekommen hat und jetzt gibt es diese einfach nicht mehr :-(

I am a big fan of Vietnamese cuisine and Shimai in Munich absolutely convinced me. Every dish I tried here was a highlight. The prices are more than fair for the high quality on offer. Particularly worth mentioning is the business lunch - a real bargain for what you get. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive, which always makes a visit here pleasant. Despite the constant activity, you never feel neglected. In summer, the large terrace is an additional plus point and invites you to linger. The starters such as the crispy baby squid, the tuna tartare and the mango salad with crispy duck are simply delicious. When it comes to main courses, the Bo Luc Lac, the Pho Bo, the bun bowls and the delicious curry dishes stand out. The drinks are also excellent and round off the culinary experience. Shimai is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Munich and I can recommend it to anyone looking for authentic, high quality Vietnamese cuisine. 5 stars without hesitation!

We were there without a reservation and we got a table quickly, the service was quick but very nice and accommodating, the food was a dream, only the tables are a bit narrow but other than that everything is great, definitely worth a visit.

The food is very tasty. My family and I are regular guests for many years. On our last visit we reserved a table for 3 and our reservation confirmation stated that the table is reserved for 2 hours. When we arrived the waiter told us straight away that we only have 45 mins and he then needs the table for the next reservation. That was shocking! I then complained and he just said that’s the rules during lunch time. This was very rude and I believe unacceptable service as this is not a fast food place. We will not be supporting this restaurant anymore. Luckily Maxvorstadt has now enough Asian restaurants with great food plus friendly service.

Food was totally over salted (I suffered from it the next morning and had to drink unusual amounts throughout the night). Tapas were very fatty (e.g. eggplant) and unfortunately none of the 4 different tapas tasted good. Main courses were well received at the table. Location is very nice.

A very good little Asian restaurant in Munich. We reserved a table for four people in advance (important as there are only a few tables) and had a lovely evening. The menu is very extensive, yet clear. The quality of the food is very good and the service is more than pleasant. Unfortunately, the table can only be reserved for two hours, which we were often informed about at the beginning. It was ok for us, if you want to sit longer you have to think about it. Otherwise a very clear recommendation!

Always worth a visit! Great Asian flavors from Thai and Vietnam. Great aroma with finely balanced nuances. I would blindly order any dish on the menu but often end up with the really excellent red curry with duck. The cocktails are also of the highest quality.

Food very good and tasteful. However, far too expensive. If you reorder rice, it costs extra. When it comes to prices, that should at least be included, like with other Asians. This ruins my ability to continue going to Shimai. Service was friendly but inattentive, I had to order the drink I ordered a second time and then wait a long time for it.

Extraordinary vietnamnese food in Munich. We never tried similar complex vietnamnese food in germany. Our stay was an explosion on our tastebuds. The starters as well as the main dishes were bursting in flavour. The place is more on the pricey side but it is totally worth it as the ingredients are really fresh and full of flavour. We will definitley come again for a special treat :)

Unfortunately we had to wait 30 minutes for our reserved table. Then our table was spontaneously given to another group and we got one right in the entrance area next to the front door. We were not offered any compensation. Food was okay but nothing special.

Great Asian restaurant. Vietnam is certainly very present, but Japanese influences are also noticeable. We were a group of 5 people and were able to order dishes 'to share' without any problems. Great cocktails, great food, really good value for money, and service was also very nice. All around great!

Very large selection of dishes and all of them are absolutely delicious! We took the starter plate for 2. The portion is huge - it will fill you up. Afterwards we had to share a main course because we were so full! Really great food, very nice service and cool atmosphere!

One of the best red curries in Munich. I usually eat the red curry with chicken here for lunch and can highly recommend it. The staff is friendly and works relatively efficiently.

My favourite restaurant in the area. The quality of the food is outstanding and the people make the whole experience fullfilling.

Das Essen ist sehr gut. Es wäre schön, wenn man sich dafür ein bisschen Zeit lassen könnte. Der Service hat uns um 12.00 Uhr leider hektisch mit den Worten: "Dies ist Ihr Tisch bis 13.00 Uhr", begrüßt. Nach dem Motto: Iss schnell, zahl schnell und geh schnell wieder! Der Service lächelt freundlich, räumt die Teller meiner Mitgäste aber schon wieder ab, während ich noch am Essen bin. Wenn dies die neue Esskultur in München ist, nein danke - dann esse ich lieber gemütlich zuhause. Open Table fördert diese ungastliche Art des Essengehens natürlich: hier wird einem ein ungemütliches Zeitfenster von 2 Stunden eingeräumt.

The food is delicious, well made, well served and fairly sized. Prices are also fair and actually low when compared to similar restaurants in Munich. Service quick and friendly. Restaurant itself is pretty and cozy. Rare find in Munich!

Das Essen war sehr lecker, das Personal sehr freundlich. Das Ambiente fand ich persönlich etwas dunkel und erdrückend, aber das war nur mein empfinden. Meiner Schwester hat's gefallen.

Sehr leckeres Restaurant mit einer tollen Atmosphäre. Das Essen war perfekt. Leider war der Kellner nicht sehr nett. Dennoch würde ich dieses Restaurant für das leckere vietnamesische Essen weiterempfehlen. Man sollte hier früh genug reservieren!

Ich liebe Shimai!! Das Essen ist immer gut und die Drinks auch. Leider nicht ganz günstig. Dafür bekommt man schönes Ambiente und ich war noch nie vom Service enttäuscht! Immer aufmerksam und nie aufdringlich. Ich würde viel öfters kommen, aber die Parkplatz Situation frustet ziemlich. Ich hätte gerne das Beef Tamarind auch auf der Abendkarte (und nicht nur auf der Mittagskarte 🙏)

Essen war super! Atmosphäre war auch top! Wir sassen drinnen und ich fand es etwas eng. Man kann aber auch draußen auf der Terasse sitzen!

Ristorante molto bello, anche il plateatico esterno molto ben attrezzato con riscaldamento e copertine da poter usare per riscaldarsi, cibo Ottimo, bella la presentazione del cibo , ripeto Buonissimo ! Prezzo un po' alto !

Super Essen, großartige Qualität der Zutaten. Portionsgröße ist sehr ausgewogen und schön präsentiert. Preis-Leistung auf jeden Fall gegeben. Ein Besuch ist mit vorheriger Reservierung zu empfehlen.

Sehr schönes Lokal mit freundlichem und aufmerksamen Personal. Die Cocktails waren wie das Essen super. Die Portionen sind eher groß. Man sollte unbedingt reservieren. Wir hatten Vorspeisenplatte, Pho Bo, Roll it yourself für 2 Personen.

Wir waren bereits mehrmals im Shimai und sind bisher noch nie enttäuscht worden. Im Gegenteil, bisher waren alle Gerichte köstlich. Eine Reservierung ist notwendig und auch preislich sollte man nicht zu knapp kalkulieren. Zwei-Stunden-Reservierungen haben natürlich auch immer einen Beigeschmack, daher ein stern Abzug.

Super leckere vietnamesische Küche! Frisch zubereitet und sehr schick angerichtet! Große Portionen! Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam und flott. Tische werden zwischen den Gängen gereinigt, auf alles wird geachtet. Wirklich empfehlenswert!!

Tolles vietnamesischen Restaurant mit leckeren Speisen!

Mit der Familie an einem sehr heißen Abend reserviert. Service insgesamt sehr schnell und zuvorkommend, auch als wir wegen der Hitze in den klimatisierten Innenraum umgezogen sind. Vor- und Hauptspeisen geschmacklich und optisch sehr ansprechend und europäisch gewürzt. Wir würden hier sehr gerne wieder speisen.

Sehr freundliche Bedienung und ausgezeichnetes Essen zu vernünftigen Preisen. Einzig die Tische auf der Terrasse sind ein wenig eng.

Went there early on an nice evening, sat outside and soon we realized it was a good choice reserving a table as the place was full when we left. Booking online was pretty easy. The food was very tasty and also beautifully placed on the dishes. We had three starters which i can only recommend. Sweet potatoes with an amazing Peanut sauce, steamed dumplings which were ok and the ultimate spring rolls with vegetables and mushrooms. Finally something different from the ones served in most of the restaurants. Main course Noodles with chicken and salad which was decent and the Bao Gao Bun with the duck with was exceptional. Apart from the food the service is the one that makes the restaurant stand out.

Völlig belanglose Küche, schicke Einrichtung, aufmerksame schnelle Bedienung, teure Preise, Schichtbetrieb. Die Gerichte sind schön angerichtet, geschmacklich leider hat das wenig mit Viet-Küche zu tun. Rotes Curry mit knuspriger Ente: Curry sehr mild, 0 Schärfe, Ente ohne jeglichen Entengeschmack. Knusprige!? Haut, weich und schlaff. Frühlingrollen mit Huhn/Garnelen, ebenso, schön anzusehen, Fettgeschmack, sonst nix. Auch die anderen Gerichte die meine Freunde hatten waren schlicht genauso belanglos. Als wir das Lokal pünktlich verließen warteten, wie in München in solchen Lokalen üblich, schon wieder die nächste Schicht vor der Tür! Na ja, wer's mag.....

So so so ein genialer Abend. Wir waren zum ersten Mal im Shimai. Wie immer haben wir auf Grund einer Geburtstagseinladung ein Restaurant ausgewählt, das wir nicht kannten. Was für eine wunderbare Überraschung für uns alle! Hatten 9 Vorspeisen, 2 Hauptgerichte, einen Weiß- und einen Rotwein. MEGA! Das Essen war eine Offenbarung. So fein abgeschmeckt, jedes Gericht anders, die Weine ein Traum und der Service (ist in München leider inzwischen eine Seltenheit!) aufmerksam und dezent zu gleich. Absolute Empfehlung! Wir kommen wieder und sagen DANKE für den schönen Abend.

Okay, vietnamesische Küche in guter Qualität, dazu schicke Cocktails und auffallend viel Servicepersonal mit Vertriebserfahrung. Der Laden läuft, man sollte reserviert haben. Kleines Aber: Soo viel toller als beim kleinen Standard-Vietnamesen (wie etwa im Hanoi, Ecke Augusten/Schellingstr) ist das Essen nun auch wieder nicht. Dafür ist's um die Hälfte teurer - immerhin...;)

Unkomplizierte Reservierung über Open Table. Haben sofort einen Platz bekommen, obwohl wir eine halbe Stunde zu früh waren. Die außergewöhnlichen Cocktails waren genauso lecker wie das gesamte Essen, die Weinkarte war gut sortiert. Das Personal war sehr aufmerksam und überaus freundlich, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Wir haben den Abend genossen und waren sicher nicht das letzte mal Gast im Shimai!

Das Shimai überzeugt in allen Belangen. Wir besuchten es auf einem Kurztrip in München und wurden dort herzlich empfangen. Das Restaurant besticht durch sein stilvolles, einladendes Wohlfühl-Ambiente. Es vermittelt eine angenehme Verweil-Atmosphäre. Auch die Außenterrasse ist ansprechend gestaltet. Alles, was aus der Küche kam, und es wurde Vieles probiert, war ausgezeichnet, reichlich und preislich absolut in Ordnung. Auch die Cocktails waren hervorragend. All das ging einher mit einem perfekten, aufmerksamen, freundlichen Service. Tags darauf kamen wir vor Abreise gleich nochmals zum Lunch. Der positive Eindruck wurde nur bestätigt, verstärkt. Dieser besteht offenbar nicht nur bei uns, denn sowohl am Abend als auch am Mittag herrschte eine große Tischnachfrage. Man sollte tunlichst reservieren.

Een prima Aziatisch restaurant met vriendelijk en servicegericht personeel. De wijnen zijn goed en de vegetarische voor- en hoofdgerechten smaken uitstekend. Het ijstoetje “mochi” is een aanrader. Zowel binnen als buiten op het terras is het goed toeven.

Ich war mit einer Freundin hier, die Vorspeisen waren sehr gut, die Hauptgerichte ok aber nichts besonderes. Dafür fand ich es etwas teuer (Vorspeisen 8-15€, Hauptgerichte 14-25€). Zudem waren meine Glasnudeln mit Pilzen etwas versalzen.

As many other restaurants at this point in time, Shimai also offers take out. As foreigners, and frequent take-out buyers we were excited for our order at this restaurant as the restaurant of our hotel was closed and we did not feel like going out. The reviews on the delivery app and of the restaurant on TripAdvisor seemed promising and the dishes sounded great. However, our food was extremely delayed. (1,5 hour) We tried to reach the restaurant, and got redirected to another restaurant that was not mentioned before. After some problems communicating, our order finally arrived. Our food was cold, the ice-cream had melted, 14€ dishes had tiny portions and were not the dishes we ordered. It was very disappointing to say the least. Our order did not come with napkins or cutlery, not great when delivering to a hotel...I hope that this type of thing does not happen frequently and that the restaurant will aim to improve their standards also on delivery as the order was quite pricey on top of all of this.

We have been to this establishment three times already and it has never failed us. Hence, a proper review is just appropriate. This restaurant is among the top of our go-to places in Munich. It has an excellent interior ambiance, courteous and very attentive staff and most of all, an amazing selection of dishes. I recommend you to try the fried soft-shell crabs and the green mango salad which are served as appetizers. Their fried rice was also perfect. You may want to try their "do-it-yourself rolls" as well. So much dishes to choose from and recommend. The prices are above average but it was worth every cent spent. We hope that you could try this place whenever you're in the Munich neighborhood. TIPS: You should make a reservation before attempting to visit this restaurant, it may become difficult to get a table as it is always fully booked. Finding a parking spot could be a challenge so consider taking the public transport or bring enough time to search for a place to park. Great for couples, group of friends and families.

We went to the restaurant with our teenage daughters for a dinner on Friday night and we absolutely loved it. The staff were very attentive and charming, the food - properly scrumptious without trying to be pretentious, nice wine, lovely atmosphere. There was really nothing what we did not enjoy; would highly recommend!

We came for drinks and appetisers in the evening - was a great atmosphere. It's not a big place, but very authentic food and some funky wallpaper decoration. Highly recommended for a taste of Vietnam in the middle of Munich! Great place for friends as well as clients.

They got some creations that I hadn‘t known before. It was all quite delicious, it seemed a rather generic Asian way of cooking, including Chinese, Indonesian, and Thai influences. Very friendly service, prices OK for the good quality.

The food here was amazing. My partner had the Pho (always a great choice) and I had the traditional Bun. Beware if you are making a reservation through the TripAdvisor app - for some reason the cell phone app redirects you to 'bookatable' which the restaurant does not use! The online website for TripAdvisor does accurately take you to reserve through 'OpenTable' which is what the restaurant uses. So for some reason, reserving through the TripAdvisor app creates an issue - regardless, the staff was very accommodating even after I got frustrated because I was already a little hangry when we arrived (and I really wanted to try their food!). They were extremely helpful, our server spoke English which is a bonus for me since my German is horrible. All in all, great food, great atmosphere, awesome decor, wonderful staff, and highly suggest reserving a table directly through their website and not the TripAdvisor app. Definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

Went to the restaurant for lunch and requested a spicy, asian meal and the very politeful and welcoming lady promptly made a recommendation which was very delicious. The taste was very good and the service was also excellent. And, also, the price was alright. I recommend this restaurant for those looking for a special and unique experience of Asian food.
