Typical Berlin hipster place: old, run-down, dirty. I have no idea what would bring me there again.

The café is beautifully and comfortably furnished. Super busy, so always make a reservation, especially in the evenings. The service was super friendly and worked as quickly as possible. It's understandable that it takes a little longer to eat when the café is super full. People don't constantly ask you if you want anything else, which I found very pleasant. Dinner was delicious, I think breakfast is just as good.

The Black Café is an absolute gem in Berlin! The atmosphere is unique – cozy, artistic and a bit alternative, exactly what you want from a Berlin café. Breakfast is incredibly delicious and is served 24 hours a day, perfect for a late start to the day. The homemade cakes are particularly a highlight! The service is friendly and attentive. Absolutely recommended, especially for night owls, as it is open 24 hours. Always my pleasure!

If you don’t already love this gem to bits, you haven’t lived.

Very friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, good food, beautiful typical Berlin backyard and a Kaiserschmarrn to die for.

Das Schwarze Café ist Kult. Seit über 40 Jahren ist es eine der Top-Adressen für Nachtschwärmer in Charlottenburg. Es hat an jedem Wochentag mindestens bis 3 Uhr und von Freitag bis Montag durchgehend geöffnet! Dieser Laden ist eine echte Legende. Man kann hier auch Nachts frühstücken oder zum Frühstück Bratkartoffeln und ein Bierchen bekommen, so what?

You cannot really escape this place if you lead a certain lifestyle in this city. One of the very few options to get a conventional dinner or breakfast (if that is your preferred option) at any time of the day without resorting to the likes of McDonalds or fast-served kebab stands. My favorite are the omelette and the apple cake, though I was also told the pasta is pretty good – on the other hand, I would not really recommend the schnitzel. However, you do not really go here for the food – albeit you do, since it is your only opportunity to get it – but this is a comfortable place for the city’s more civilized outcasts, for the crowd too unsettled by an exhibition opening or by an opera performance to just leave it behind undiscussed and go home. The service may not be the fastest, but it is friendly and non-judgmental the way it should be – besides, you are just happy there is service on Tuesday at 1 am. The only spot where I would easily bring my snobbish upperclass father, my bohemian (and/or bougie!) friends and a date without much consideration. Really a bit sad that they cut their working hours to up to 3 am on weekdays – used to only be closed for five hours on Tuesday just a few months ago. People in Berlin really did not do this place’s unique generosity justice. Avoid before late hours – it can get rather touristy and full during regular hours (especially on Friday and Saturday), and you do not want this as a part of your experience.

Very nice café with its own charm. The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was unique. A nice stopover whether sightseeing or nightlife.

I like this cafe at any time of the day or year. Always good food, delicious cakes, beers and wine and nice staff.

Those who want to eat trip can go. The waiter was never interested, and even though we waited for half an hour for the waiter, even though we made eye contact, called out, and made gestures, he looked coolly at the adjacent tables and did not pay attention to us. Simply a rustic and great location. My mother was here 40 years ago, simply brilliant.

Ambiance very, very relaxed. However, the waiters mainly speak English. Furthermore, they were not very attentive. After waiting 30 minutes, we had to go to the bar and ask if we could order the next round.

Very nice café next to Kudamm, in Kantstraße known for its cafés/restaurants. The atypical but at the same time traditional atmosphere. Terrace at the front and small courtyard at the back, making us forget that we are in a capital.

It's nice that you always get something tasty to eat, but service entirely in English is a shame.

A Berlin institution. A wide menu with German staples and other comfy dishes. Open late, actually 24h on weekends, so great for drinks and food on a long night. The toilets have a special aesthetic.

Have you ever had cottage cheese with refined sugar? You can at Schwarzes Cafe! Just order a cheesecake, and you will see some dry-*ss cottage cheese clumps all over the plate. Waste of money and calories. (Tried carrot cake too - not as disgusting, simply bad) (the waiters were nice and friendly)

russian music has spoiled all atmosphere. We asked to change the song but the waiter and manager ignored our request. I don't want to eat in a restaurant that normalizes the Russian language and culture, regardless of the war they started.

Everything is very authentic and not artificial. Staff super friendly, committed and competent. Ambiance very cool and down-to-earth - no ski-ski. Food fantastic! If you are in Berlin, then definitely go to the “Schwarzes Cafe”.

The Black Café delights young and old. Mixed, relaxed and friendly crowd. It is worth a visit at any time of day.

The Food was there rather quickly, as well as the drinks. The Kaiserschmarrn was quite tasty, definitely on the sugary side but really tasty; the drinks were a bit small but this is to be expected. Back home in Westfalia, the tipping culture is quite different. And because the prize of the food and drinks (2 drinks 1 schmarrn) was already at 23€, we didn’t think about tipping; while paying with a 50€ bill, the waitress asked how much we get back, and we instinctively said 27 euros (was expensive enough as it was). Her reaction was what our problem was and smashed her wallet on the table, and told us, that we shouldn’t go out eating if we can’t afford the tip. She apparently would get by only with help of the tips (which is obviously not the case as we are not in America and pay livable wages) and that we have a problem. This is utterly ridiculous and should not be normalised under any circumstance.

Five stars with the caveat that that’s only if you take it for what it is, namely a very lively (loud) all-day/late-night hangout for the following groups: young people (<27), exceptionally PDA-heavy couples and groups of at least five. Past a certain time of day most customers will be exceptionally drunk or well on their way to doing so, and yet Schwarzes Café remains true to its name, providing both coffee and cooked meals into the wee hours. Add their generous provision of candles to the mix and the place becomes ideal for a fourth type of patron: the night owl with a book seeking both food and company when the only remaining establishments open are döner stands and McDonald’s. If you can block out the noise and the rowdiness of everyone around you - or, even more sensibly, become that noise and rowdiness - it’s an incredible place to be, large yet cosy and accommodating of all. The waiters are remarkably undeterred by the excesses of their guests and remain both nice and nimble, delivering your goodies with a smile within five to ten minutes. There’s a balcony for smokers. Upstairs is candle-lit, downstairs ceiling-lit. And the lasagne is very tasty, if drowning in tomato sauce. tl;dr loud, lively and solid as a post-midnight hangout

Yesterday, August 25th, I had breakfast here with my wife and daughter. The toast with buffalo mozzarella wasn't even one star for the price. The same went for the ginger tea. Toilets, well. The only bright spot was the older waitress.

This tiny place is a venerable institution from late 70’s West Berlin with nice foods and super cool people far from the noisy hype.

The service and ambience are great. But the breakfast itself, well. The scrambled eggs are just whole eggs from the Tetra pack, which doesn't work at all.

Delicious but cash only. The weird thing was that the waitress took a five out of my hand as a tip while I was looking how much I had in order to pay and I asked what she was doing. This took me by surprise. I thought this was very rude. I would go back for the food but I'm worried the same girl would be there. Delicious food but they only accept cash. Something strange what the waitress did was that she practically took five euros out of her hand and I didn't understand what she was doing. I was looking at how much I had to pay because I didn't know it was only cash. I thought it was rude of him to do something like that. I would go back for the food but I'm afraid that the same girl will serve me.

A nice old style Berlin place. I'll even suffer not being able to pay by card since they have Pisco sours.

This café is a Berlin legend! Especially crowded at night and there is always something to eat, a very extensive selection of different dishes. Breakfast is also a lot of fun here. The staff is very friendly. Highly recommended!!🥳😜🎊💋🎉

A classic! Good drinks and good food, especially the desserts, particularly the Kaiserschmarren :p is simply heavenly. Although I have the feeling that there is less caramel now. Actually, the whole plate was always completely covered in caramel. It's a shame, but at the same time I can understand it... it was definitely hell to get it clean again 🌝

Really nice and very large store! You can really tell that there are a lot of students and relaxed people here. We ordered a few dishes but the Kaiserschmarrn was absolutely amazing. I've never eaten such a good one and would come here again just for that!

Nice waiter, excellent food, alternative atmosphere. But be careful! CASH PAYMENT ONLY possible. In my opinion it's not up to date and cumbersome for 2024 ;-) but I'm prepared for next time.

A Berlin institution. Sadly one that refuses to develop or to provide decent service. While the servers were nice, the service was very slow, and it’s not possible to pay with card. The food was fine, but nothing special.

West Berlin tradition! Food is good, service is spotty and payment is only in cash. Even with 250€ for the five of us we had to go to the ATM.

Cult pub, always full and loud, but always worth a visit, especially at a later hour.

It was nice, it has a small entrance door, but the inside was nice and big, there is an upstairs, I think the service was a little slow, but I enjoyed it.

Rude, racist and unprofessional

I knew this from my youth, it hasn't changed in the last 20 years and that's a good thing. The ambience is what's special about it, you have to get involved with it. But there's hardly anything better in the area

Nobody ever came to order, nobody could speak German straight away. As soon as we wanted to pay, they felt like they were just chasing after you, only after the money and not the customer's well-being

For 2 toasts with tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella 14 euros is too expensive. otherwise quite okay.

Despite a confirmed reservation, we were rudely brushed off. Even though we made dinner reservations, several seventeen year olds were turned down. Generally extremely unfriendly. Disappointing. Especially the staff at the bar, who seem very immature and underage.

The food was excellent and delivered very fast. It is a very large restaurant with lots of seating for dining indoors and outdoors. There is no gluten free bread for breakfast but they have a gluten free pasta for dinner.

It was black - completely - at the very beginning in the 70s, and there is still a corner of it on the upper floor (rebuilt). But otherwise it is rather colorful in every respect. Offer, service, atmosphere (yes. quite loud. !!, then just sit in the courtyard.) are a unique, great mix here. There is also a small balcony! And the toilets deserve more than just a makeshift visit. Real big city cafe like there aren't many left in Berlin.

I visited the black café, as it is supposed to be a well-known meeting point in Berlin, and was disappointed. Unfortunately, the waiters don't make any effort to follow the customers' wishes and the general service can be criticized. A bar with good potential that is not being exploited, there are many better alternatives nearby (a shame).

Ambience great as always, staff untrained and nice - payment only in cash - anyone can cook food with meat - I recommend pasta elsewhere - fish is better. Dessert Kaiserschmarrn was better - beer was okay… prices were okay.

You shouldn't actually reveal insider tips. 24/7 hours at a good level.

I don't understand how a restaurant in Berlin still hasn't managed to get a card machine after all these years. Given the prices, that would be appropriate. Otherwise the food was good and the coffee too. You shouldn't think twice about the sink in the women's toilet (first floor), as it's very unhygienic to have to shove your hands deep into the sink.

The food was delicious, but the service staff was very rude, didn't pay attention to us and in the end he kept the money back and didn't give it back until I told him. He also told us that he thought that money we left was for a tip. Of course, we left tip, but the staff should not decide who and how much tip will leave.

Was craving a good Schnitzel and popped in for an early dinner. It was everything I'd anticipated and more. Service was fantastic. The outside seating area is super cozy and inviting too.

There were three of us there and we were looking for something small to eat. Sparkling wine, coffee and club sandwich were very good. The café also has a small courtyard with seating.

After our arrival in Berlin we went to have a little something to eat and drink and because of the good reviews we came across the Black Café. The view from the outside made us a little unsettled at first, but we weren't disappointed. The coffee and club sandwich were delicious. We sat outside on the street and took in the charm of the café and Berlin.

Mediocre pasta and salad for 17€. But they have a really nice courtyard and the staff is nice as well!
