Oxymoron in Berlin

Wir wollten mit unseren Enkeln einen schönen Nachmittag niveauvoll im Oxymoron bei gutem Essen ausklingen lassen. Der Kellner, der uns zwischendurch behandelte(bedienen wäre das falsche Wort!), tat alles, um dies zunichte zu machen. Auf unsere Frage, warum man in einem fast leeren Retaurant so lange auf Getränke zum Essen warten müsse, führte ihn zu einem kleinen cholerischen Anfall, in dem auch die Fäkaliensprache ihren Platz hatte! Er war hier völlig fehl am Platze, womit dann auch ein schöner Tag einen bitteren Nachschlag hatte! Unsere Enkel waren auch etwas verwirrt! So etwas in dieser Preisklasse und renommierten Gegend geht gar nicht...!

Tolles Berliner Ambiente, erwartungsvoll das erste Mal in diesem Restaurant, nicht enttäuscht, Super aufmerksame und nette Bedienung, ausgezeichnetes Essen, etwas ausgefallen, insgesamt hervorragend, kommen gern wieder!

Rude, passive aggressive waiter from Slovenia (Alexander) ruined the whole experience. Food was tasty but never coming here again.

What a great place for a restaurant. I had visited the Hasselhoff Museum (LOL it was a hallway) and met up with my friends for lunch. Such a great location and the service was good, but the real winner was the people. There were people of all ages and lifestyles all in agreement that OXYMORON was the place to be. thank you!

Would go back here in a heartbeat - everything we got was good. I got the: - Hokkaido pumpkin cream soup / gröstl of Iberico pork / pumpkin seeds & -oil - Tagliatelle / chanterelle mushrooms / Guanciale speck / parsley - Apple pie cocktail My partner got the Linguine / prawns / olive oil / chili / garlic / salicornes and a dark and stormy. Everything was amazing. The staff were friendly, spoke English, and everything was perfect!

Ein wirklich schönes Restaurant mit einer tollen und überraschenden Karte. Ausgefallene Gerichte, die sehr lecker waren. Der Service war super freundlich. Kommen beim nächsten Berlin Besuch gerne wieder vorbei.

Despite the rather grand and formal photos, we found a very warm welcome awaited us at Oxymoron. The atmosphere was professional but unhurried. Our waiter was chatty and humourous and helpful with his recommendations. The prices are reasonable and the food was excellent. I think they have a very good chef!

One of the best restaurants in Berlin

I've been there several times with guests and everything has always been perfect. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and fast and the atmosphere is great both in the restaurant and outside. Keep it up and thanks to the team.

Fantastic ambience! Super attentive service, pumpkin risotto very tasty and the matcha cake, a dream. Vegan options possible. The decor is so romantic and chic with the sofas and chandeliers! Also in the inner courtyard with a view of the Hackesche Höfe, upscale and cozy.

This was our worst service experience in Berlin. I would elaborate further on the rudeness of the waiting personnel but I would encourage you to read the other low reviews they have. They seem to be a pattern, with a lot of foreign names as well. Make your own judgment. I am sure there is an element of culture clash but no culture difference justify the rudeness we received. It is not ok to chase out customer of your establishment with remarks of “I don’t know where you come from”. Once they made clear they would not serve us, we left and that should have been the end of it.

A nice one … they have all it takes to make it a memorable evening….

Food was a bit expensive. The frozen green asparagus is inedible. The waiter pressured us for a tip and was endlessly rude. You have to pay extra for bread because VAT. It was increased, which is nonsense, only during Corona, but it was lower for everyone but was never increased. So in my opinion there was a lot of lying and cheating and not everything was fresh as the waiter confirmed when asked. Would have given 3 stars if the waiter hadn't pressured us. As it is, it's a flop and a tourist trap

the part of the place's name that goes after "oxy" just described well what they are. they have seats and tables everywhere around the common yard with no indication that they are managed by them. and then they have that watchdog waiter who rushes to you just for seating yourselves on an anonymous seat to drink your own water and who protects his boss' property like he is hardly trained for that (a respected quality for a dog, a shame for a human being). with an attitude like this, it is certain that they will get not a cent from me and all I wish for them is just to have no clients anymore and get out of business

This cool location is right at the entrance to the Hackesche Höfe. We sat in the courtyard and enjoyed the delicious refreshments! Great atmosphere right in this great courtyard! Gladly again ;-)

In the midst of tourists, Berliners can also eat delicious and relaxed food. At Not all dishes are good value for money. The risotto with chanterelles was bland and the portion was poor. The salad and the dish with the buffalo mozzarella were a hit. Highly recommended after a stroll through the Haeckischen Höfe. Thanks to the great service staff.

Wir waren vor zwei Jahren das letzte Mal hier und skeptisch, nachdem wir die negativen Bewertungen aus 2024 gelesen haben. Trotzdem haben wir uns entschlossen, hier zu essen und wurden nicht enttäuscht! Netter Service, sehr geschmackvolle Gerichte. Die Menge ist nicht mit “gut bürgerlichen” Restaurants zu vergleichen, sollte man aber auch nicht! Wir sind gut satt geworden und hatten einen sehr schönen Mittag/Nachmittag.

In the heart of Berlin, excellent service and great food.

Friendly and fast service. We had two pasta dishes: me with red pesto and mine always happy to go there.

Service was very slow, it was rather standing around in the entrance area. 20 minutes until the first drink, then another 40 minutes until the meal. In between, no one came to ask if they wanted any more drinks. Not all tables were occupied. Other guests also sat in front of empty glasses. The food was very tasty, but the portions were not suitable for those who were really hungry and were kept small. Service does not correspond to the prices at all.

Das OXYMORON trägt seinen Namen zurecht. Wir erlebten hier bei einem Mittagessen tatsächlich Licht und Schatten zugleich. Dies betraf nicht nur die bestellten Speisen sondern auch den Service - aber vielleicht hatte sowohl die Küchencrew als auch der „Chef“ einfach nur einen schlechten Tag. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis bewerteten wir als mangelhaft. Das OXYMORON liegt aber auch leider nicht am Meer, sondern mitten in einer Tourigegend von Berlin und es war an besagtem Julitag einfach nur eines - nämlich btütendheiß.. Als Hannoveranerin werde ich mich allerdings auch nie an die „Berliner Schnauze“ gewöhnen. Ich nahm in diesem Restaurant nur wieder die zunehmende Verrohung dieser viel zu groß geratenen Stadt wahr.

Sent us away because he can’t take “that many of us.” The woman in the group with a headscarf was probably too much. I said from “due to illness”… 4 coffees and 2 cokes are probably too much at once. Unbelievable to be so backwards in the 21st century

Nice location, fast service, but small portion in my case "yoghurt with fruit" - a bit lacking in fruit in my opinion. On the other plates at the neighboring tables, which appeared to be main courses, the portions were OK.

They charge you a 20% tip by default. A beer and a coke €13.10. The bathrooms were clean.

Nice delicious food with vegan and vegetarian options. Friendly staff who is quick to help and advise if needed. Would highly recommend coming here for lunch or dinner. In a nice area as well!

I just wanted to drink a beer and continue my day but the waitress didn’t like my order and acted rude. A customer should eat or drink whatever he/she wants. Bad service

Nach dem Besuch der Hackerschen Höfe setzten wir uns mittags an mehrere Tische im Außenbereich des OXYMORONs. Die junge Kellnerin war nett, sprach aber recht wenig deutsch. Vom Essen, das wir zügig serviert bekamen, waren wir gar nicht begeistert. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmte überhaupt nicht. Alle servierten Gerichte waren viel zu klein geraten, um auch nur einigermaßen satt zu werden (Diätteller?). Die wegen „zu kalt“ zurückgegebene, sehr klein geratene Portion Gnocci (20,90€) kam aufgewärmt -aber noch winziger- zurück auf den Tisch. Besonders unangenehm fiel uns ALLEN das Gebaren des Chefs (dünn, sehr kurze Haare, Brille) auf - einfach nur unverschämt.

There wasn't even a "greeting from the kitchen", which is what you would expect at higher priced restaurants. Portions are very small for the price and don't fill you up (I'm a short 1.63 cm woman). Unfortunately, my risotto was too salty and tasted little like Parmesan. I cook creamier risotto myself. It simply lacked different flavor components to make it more exciting. The Mango Creme Brulee was delicious, again - so incredibly little. Meat dishes were good, but not enough for a main course. Water is absolutely overpriced at 8.90 euros. But the young waiter was very charming.

Wonderful ambience, excellent service and the kitchen promises hearty dishes that are prepared and served with a lot of love. Thank you for this wonderful experience, from starter to dessert a highlight that I let melt in my mouth. I love it when the food looks good and also tastes good. This is the third time we have come Very nice place, the interior is vintage Today's waiter was very, very blunt at first, although he later corrected himself, the look on his face said it all.

Stumbled upon Oxymoron for lunch and were surprised by how brilliant the food was. Best soup and best dessert that I have ever tasted! Great laid back unassuming atmosphere with friendly helpful staff.

Amazing & peaceful environment right in the middle of Berlin. Marcel, our waiter was perfect with suggestions and always the right timing. What a pleasure…and the food absolutely tasteful. Price were more than correct for such level of service. Hope to be back soon. 🙏🏼

The atmosphere is very friendly, and the rosemary sorbet served in a 3-layered service leaves an extremely good taste on the palate. Their side products are more successful than their main dishes.

What a great restaurant-you need to try this quiet hideaway near Hackescher Markt. Oxymoron is found in an alley-perfect for a memorable evening. Ziga was our server. He was great, attentive & gave us suggestions on food choices. The parsley risotto with mushrooms was creamy & delicious. Also the veal, asparagus & new potatoes was mouthwatering. The rhubarb cheesecake did not disappoint for dessert. Overall, this was a fabulous evening.

You sit in the beautiful courtyard, the breakfast was delicious and the service was extremely friendly. We recommend.

A pity! French cuisine is almost non-existent. Portions are smaller, but more expensive. Bottle of wine, water, 2 starters and 2 main courses. Bread must be ordered and paid for separately. Almost 150€. I'm from the catering industry myself

We visited Oxymoron for my Son's 14 birthday and it is such an elegant venue and the food is of the highest quality. We will be visiting Berlin again after such an amazing first impression and we will be looking to return to Oxymoron during our next trip.

The food was excellent and surprised with new flavors. We can only recommend the parsley risotto... as well as the lunch menu with the beetroot soup and the wild garlic risotto...! The surrounding area is beautiful! Worth a visit. We expected more from Oxymoron. Food was okay, but not as beautiful as advertised. Too many waiters managing too many tables. They were friendly however. The atmosphere represented in the pictures looks nice… but reality is ‘so so’. For a nice plate of food it’s okay, but pricey.

Dear service personnel of Oxy-MORONs, Congratulations! You have won first prize for the rudest and most arrogant service I have ever experienced in Berlin. That my dear service people is indeed an achievement in a city such as Berlin! You work in a cafe/bistro, in an industry known as the hospitality industry. We all understand hospitality can be challenging, but if you are not even prepared from the onset to try to be hospitable, then clearly hospitality is not for you. There is no need to blatantly ignore your customers, make obvious your impatience, talk rudely to them or raise your voice. Without your customers, regardless of whether they have ordered just a coffee or the whole menu, you have no cafe/bistro, and no job! I was prepared to tolerate a cafe/bistro that was devoid of atmosphere and made no comment on your overpriced menu, where a tea costs an extortionate 5.70 Euro, but I am not prepared to tolerate your rudeness. Not ever! So good luck to you and your overrated cafe/bistro, in light of your terrible service and entitled attitude towards your customers you are definitely going to need it!

Twelve of us went to Oxymoron for a small snack as part of a visit to Berlin. The service quickly put together a few tables for us. And the food and drinks were highly recommended. Only the exasperated snort of the waitress when she asked for separate accounts left a very unpleasant and inappropriate aftertaste. Especially not when the bread that you would expect with a soup is charged at 1.60 euros (for three slices of baguette). A pity!

The Oxymoron is located in the Hackische Höfe and is furnished in a beautiful, noble and time-honored style. Unfortunately, the atmosphere and the audience were also a bit old-fashioned. There were unusual food creations that tasted good, but given the prices I expected a little more. The service was good, although they didn't actually want to charge for a forgotten starter, but it ended up being on the bill. Unfortunately I only read this after I had already left the restaurant. But overall a nice location.

This place had real charm, a stylish cocktail slurping clientele without being stuffy or pretentious. The wine was superb as was the curated tasty menu. The service was efficient and attentive but unobtrusive. The little square the restaurant is in by the picture house is pretty with a hint of the magical. I’d highly try this restaurant.

Solid, friendly staff, delicious food, always happy to come to Berlin

For decades I have loved this place of relaxation in the middle of Berlin's hustle and bustle - always food prepared with love, I enjoy life there 🍀☕🤩

Upon my visit to Oxymore, I wore more casual were then expected dress code and arrived solo without a reservation. Despite my casual attire, I secured a seat. However, an initial discomfort arose when two waiters exchanged glances and laughter upon seating me, which I found disrespectful. Throughout the dining experience, two servers assisted me. One treated me what i felt like different, while the older gentleman treated me accordingly. Transitioning to the culinary aspect, the Moonfish Salmon Carpaccio was great. The diverse flavors melded good with one-another, creating a delightful and light dish. The execution was also good. Moving on to the main course, the Linguini Noodle with Lobster. The pasta absorbed the lobster's rich flavor, which was nice. The lobster was moist and juicy. Which i really enjoyed For both dishes and a chardonnay + tip i paid €60

Simply recommended, you just feel welcome

Super netter Empfang, tolles Ambiente, aufmerksamer Service (manchmal muss man etwas winken) und sehr leckeres Essen, auch vegetarisch und vegan gut möglich. Der sehr gute Gesamteindruck rechtfertigt dann auch den sicherlich im oberen Drittel angesiedelten Preis. Fazit: wir kommen wieder!

Ich mag das Ambiente einfach, hat Charme und Stil. Sehr freundliche Bedienung und tolles Frühstücksangebot.

We randomly walked into the restaurant, and despite being fully booked they found a table for us. We had excellent service, the food was outstanding, the drink recommendations (wine and beer) were well paired, and the atmosphere was perfect to allow dinner conversation and still feel like you were park of an exciting group of diners. While we may not return to Berlin anytime soon, we have recommended this place to several friends who have since visited and enjoyed the same experience as described. Thank you!

We spent New Year’s Eve at the Oxymoron. Arriving at the restaurant is already an experience. Embedded in the „Hackeschen Höfe“ the Jugendstil environment the restaurant follows with certain elements in its interior which contributes to a unique experience. From the very first moment the whole concept lives up to its promise. Service, food and ambience are almost perfect. The 5-course-menu was delicious. Wir waren schon sehr oft dort - ein berlinbesuch ist auch immer ein Oxymoronbesuch. Sehr angenehmes Restaurant mir sehr erfreulicher Küche, guten Weinen und sehr netten Servicekräften. Alles bestens. Schöne Atmosphäre

Quite a special place in Berlin. Nothing compares in atmosphere with Oxymoron: old school, elegant, high quality.

Wir waren mit einer größeren Gruppe essen. Service war flott und die Location ist sehr schön. Essen ist eher hochpreisig und nicht dem Preis entsprechend. Die Salzbutter war leider viel zu salzig. Das Maishähnchen für fast 30€ war knorpelig und nicht zu Essen. Von den gefühlt 100 Gramm Hähnchen gingen dann gefühlt 80 Gramm zurück. Dem Kellner war es aber egal und er fragte nicht nach Ich habe leider nichtaufgepasst, sonst hätte ich dem Kellner noch einen Hinweisgegeben. Passt leider nicht bei diesem Preis. Mehr schein als sein. Auch die anderen Begleiter waren nicht überzeugt. Daher max. 3 Sterne.

Service is great. Atmosphere is great. Location is great. But food is awful. Good place for several drinks, but no more.

We had a great dinner with colleagues at the Oymoron. The location itself is great, the atmosphere welcoming, the food delicious and the staff delightful (attentive, competent, charming, fun yet discreet). I can highly recommend this location! The Filet vom Natur-Rind was perfectly cooked and their selection of French cheese was terrific.
